Please describe your company and your position there.

I'm the Full-stack Android/Web Developer for a software development and software distribution company. Our traditional business model is based on providing UK and Philippine based small to medium sized companies (SME’s) with the technology that will allow them to compete with larger organizations with unlimited resources and funds. The company will work closely with its customers and on occasions might go into partnerships which will allow us to set up areas of software excellence in a particular industry.

I hired Mel to create branding icons and banner images for my e-commerce website and Android application.

What were your goals for this project?

I'm working on a redesign of the website and Android app and was looking for a capable and affordable freelance designer.

Its an e-commerce website and Android application designed to allow you to purchase goods and services for your family and friends in the Philippines.

I'm the solo developer for the backend and frontend of the website and Android application.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Mel was able to create the icons even though we only communicated thru LinkedIn. He was able to understand what I was looking for and provided the icons within a week.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Mel was very easy to talk to even though English was not our native language.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The quality of work and ease of communication are impressive, considering he is from Nigeria and I'm from the Philippines.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Nothing that I can think of honestly. Quality work.

We needed a new logo for our show.

What were your goals for this project?

Our goals for the project were to create a logo that better represented our brand, was eye catching, and looked professionally done.

How did you select Brandingbymel?

Mel provided us a portfolio of work done after we had an open call for work by artists. We selected him out of maybe 30 or so other places.

Once we selected Mel we had an initial discovery call. He wanted to know what we were looking for. What our brand should mean to people at a glance. It was a bit of a difficult conversation for us as it wasn't something my co-host and I had thought of. But Mel was patient and helped navigate us through the conversation and allowed us to come to an solid idea of what our brand meant to us and how he could show that through a logo.

From there he created some broad mock ups of color schemes and styles. We were able to make requests and changes. Next steps were actual design mock ups. Which took a few back and forths and meetings. But we were always able to offer suggestions and critiques and Mel was very receptive to them. We then got to the final product and at that point Mel sent us over all of the file types we could possibly need.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We received tons of positive comments on the new logo. And have since had a much easier time distinguishing ourselves among a crowded field. Numbers have steadily risen and I believe a lot of that can be traced back to our professional look.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Very effective but a little rocky at the start. I believe this was due to us being unsure of what we wanted.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The work was fantastic. They were able to take disjointed thoughts and turn them into something useable.

Are there any areas for improvement?

There were a few issues figuring out the payment process. This was a while ago so at this point I assume Mel has had a better time with that. It didn't detract from the work. Was just a difficult time.

The word mark and logo were exactly as I asked - even though my general direction was not very exact.

Their communication was simple and straight forward. Not always what you see in design. That was great!
