The scope of work for this project involves the development of a website that seamlessly aligns with our rebranded identity, new messaging, and the introduction of our latest product offerings. This website will be strategically designed to harness insights gathered from conversion rate assessment reports, addressing our current pain points to significantly improve overall conversion rates. 

Furthermore, it will leverage market and customer research findings to ensure the content and user experience are highly relevant to our target audience. To achieve these objectives, the project will follow a structured process, commencing with wireframing to define the layout and structure of the website. 

Following this, the user interface (UI) design will be crafted to reflect our brand identity and improve user engagement. Subsequently, the website will be built using best practices, incorporating code that is not only efficient but also easy to navigate and edit in the future. 

In order to adhere to our timeline, it is imperative that the website is launched no later than 5th June 2023. This launch date is non-negotiable and will serve as a critical milestone for the project's success. Additionally, a comprehensive User Acceptance Testing (UAT) phase will be conducted to ensure that the website functions as intended before the official launch. 

In summary, the key deliverables of this project include a fully functional website that encapsulates our rebrand, optimises conversion rates, aligns with market insights, adheres to best practices in design and coding, and is launched by the specified deadline of 5th June 2023, following a structured process of wireframing, UI design, build, UAT, and launch.

In my personal experience, their project management skills surpassed those of similar agencies I've worked with in the past. Notably, I never felt the need to initiate a conversation about deadline management - they proactively ensured that everything was on track. 

Their use of tools like ClickUp for project management further enhanced our collaborative efforts. The scope of this project is to establish the final look and functionalities of our ecommerce website, customizing an off-the-shelf Shopify theme. BLACK ROOSTER was responsible for defining the page layouts and elements through wireframes, setting up the Theme in our Shopify store, developing custom features and pages that improve the Store’s overall look and user experience, and integrating several apps for email marketing, reviews, subscriptions and forms.

They were very flexible as we navigated this project, ensuring the result worked for our brand's strategy. They also went above and beyond to help us troubleshoot/support, whether researching apps to integrate into our site or editing our shop's design.

There was nothing they needed to improve on.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the commercial director at Olverum, a family-owned, growing bath and body oils brand. Our goods are globally distributed direct-to-consumers through our website.

What challenge were you trying to address with Black Rooster Digital?

We needed help with our e-commerce platform. We previously worked with another vendor, but we weren’t happy with their work. They needed to have great design acumen and build a site that was suitable for scaling.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Black Rooster designed and developed our Shopify website. They customized the site and included Klaviyo, review, Facebook, and Instagram integrations. The site was customizable, and they made a CMS instruction guide so we can implement updates by ourselves. 

They built the site from scratch, but they were able to use copies copy and images from our old site. The whole process was collaborative, and we relied on their expertise. The only thing that slowed the project down was our team. We weren’t quick to provide their requested materials, and that caused some delay.

What is the team composition?

We worked with two people, Basak (Digital Strategist) and Kenan (Founder).

How did you come to work with Black Rooster Digital?

They were recommended to us by a consultant. I’ve spoken to various agencies, but those other vendors were always trying to oversell. There was no such thing with Black Rooster — they gave us options and suggested which were right for us. 

How much have you invested with them?

We spent £14,000–£15,000 (approximately $19,000–$20,300 USD). 

What is the status of this engagement?

Our design and development lasted from March–August 2021. However, they currently maintain our site.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our sales increased by 65% since the site was launched. It’s difficult to accurately attribute what was responsible for that because of covid market conditions and the seasonality of our products.

How did Black Rooster Digital perform from a project management standpoint?

Black Rooster was great at project management. We needed someone to keep on top of us and make sure we were on time, and they were exceptional at keeping us on track. I never had to follow up on their tasks because I knew they were working diligently within the schedule. 

Typically, I’d email them once a week to keep up with the project. We can also talk to them through phone call and Zoom. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

The best part of working with Black Rooster was their willingness to give advice. Whenever we tell them issues that we’re experiencing on the site, they help us without being too pushy. Working with them didn’t feel like a customer-supplier relationship — it was a genuine partnership. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything. I’m really happy with their service.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They know what they’re talking about. You can tell them what you want, but if you want to make the most of your engagement, allow them to have their opinions as well. If you’re just dictating what you want, they’ll do it, but you won’t be able to get the best value out of their work.
