I’m the chief technology officer of EatStreet. We’re a US online food ordering and delivery service. We provide food delivery services to restaurants in 100 cities and online ordering across the country.

What challenge were you trying to address with Binariks?

We needed to have elasticity and flexibility with our engineering team. Our core engineering team’s based in Madison, Wisconsin but I needed to bring on an additional engineering team to cover new projects and give us flexibility around our existing projects.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The Binariks team and our US-based engineers work on projects together. Their team does frontend and backend development work for our web products. As well, they do Android and iOS development. Their team also provides UX design talent.

They work alongside our core engineers and the teams are structured by products. We have three main products. One is for our diners who order food, which is the product that Binariks helps us with the most. They collaborate with our engineers and participate in our sprint planning, sprint estimation, and stand-up meetings.  

They’ve also helped with our other two products. One is for our restaurants for getting orders and providing updates on those orders. The other one is for our drivers who get orders and deliver them.

How did you come to work with Binariks?

We went through an RFP process. I have experience in the industry, working with remote and offshore teams for over 20 years. We wanted a company that could provide the technical expertise that we needed. We went with Binariks because their project management and communication were good. I wanted to find a company that not only provided technical resources but also backed them up with good account management. The value was good too. The biggest influence on my decision was the culture fit. We wanted a company with a strong work ethic and a commitment to accuracy. My philosophy is that no matter where our engineers sit, we work as one time. The Binariks team fits well with our philosophy.

In 2019, we spent about $200,000. It’s early in the year but we’ll probably spend between $300,000–$350,000 in 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The primary benefit that we get is elasticity. When I need to ramp up engineering, their team’s quick to respond. As well, when we have to move an engineer to a different product, we can have the Binariks team pick up that work. In the last 3–4 months, we’ve gotten a lot done with our products.

How did Binariks perform from a project management standpoint?

We use JIRA to track bugs and manage sprints. We communicate primarily over Slack, Zoom, and Google Hangouts. We also share information through Google Docs and use Confluence. They don’t need any more oversight than I would provide to any other team. They do time-shifting, so we have a half-day overlap. Many of our engineers get responses from them that go into their evenings. They’re also not afraid to speak up when they have ideas for improvements.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They take a sense of ownership in these projects. Their team’s focused and engaged in the work that they do. They’re available all of the time and seem to be part of our team. Their team works well with our team’s operation.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We focused on sprint retrospectives during the first six months of bringing them onboard. We identified any gaps in the way that our engineers communicated with them or gaps in how we handed out the design specifications. So, both teams made adjustments. After the first 3–4 months, they've worked with us seamlessly. It doesn’t happen by accident. We kept asking questions about what worked and what didn’t. Binariks was quick to make any changes. Their team was also proactive when they felt that we needed to make an adjustment in how we worked. That’s another quality that I appreciate.

Their quality has been really good. One of the big issues when working with an outsourced team can be communication. They proved to be reliable from that standpoint, taking feedback and truly listening to requirements. They have exceeded my expectations for similar services.

We use a combination of things, from Clubhouse for project management to Slack for communication, as well as email. I deal with the developers, but the project managers are always around and willing to help.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The way that they go about problem-solving has been impressive. They've definitely shown an aptitude for problem-solving and will recommend things to get to a solution. That's all we can ask for.

There is always room for improvement in anything, but they absolutely deliver.

Be open and clear with your communication. They seem to be very receptive to that.

I’m the brand designer & creative director of distylerie gmbh, a technical design company that develops apps, does graphic design and performs branding services.

We had completed an app’s screen design, and we were looking for a partner to assist with the development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Binariks did all the programming, developing everything from beginning to end. We did the screen design on our side in Sigma, and they helped us a lot with UX. At first, we wanted to develop the whole application, but their team suggested we start with an MVP.

It’s a simple iOS app that allows users to send sounds to friends. It functions similar to a chat application with a sound library. Users can swipe through the library and send sounds to their friends. We can upload the sound in the backend and send it through different messengers. Their team also fixed other problems we were having.

There was someone involved in all of the contracts and estimations. We then received a project manager and a couple back– and frontend experts.

We researched different freelance platforms, and we felt that Binariks was a great company. They also had the best price.

We completed the MVP, but work is still ongoing. We’re very happy with their excellent work and consulting. It’s successful in the App Store because of its functionality. We did some testing, and the feedback is very good.

We used Skype, Trello, and a ticket system that they have. It was a full service for us. Our project manager organized the team and held Skype meetings. Whenever problems arose, different members of their team would help. They also respect deadlines.

We like their consulting. When we have an issue, Binariks always provides the right solution.

We needed an Android developer for a specific mobile app project.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The application was for one of our clients. The purpose of the app is similar to Uber and allows the user to find someone to wash their car like on-demand car washing.

What is the team composition?

We worked with three people in total. I mostly spoke to the Android developer and the project manager. We had two stages in the development, with two Android developers in the first stage and one in the second stage.

How did you come to work with Binariks?

We couldn’t find any Android developers in Latvia. Our team then searched extensively for good developers on Upwork and did a lot of interviews with other companies. Binariks sounded like a good candidate for our project, so we hired them for mobile development.

The client and other stakeholders are pretty happy. I can't complain with the work they've done. They had a very detail-oriented work process.

How did Binariks perform from a project management standpoint?

They did regular progress updates for the tasks at hand. We also had regular stand-up meetings and they always responded to us with time estimates and were pretty accurate. They used Trello. We also communicated through Slack for questions and requests.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I like the communication system we have developed with them. They really try to explain things in detail. I also enjoyed their problem-solving skills. There were times when they pointed out some things that were missing from our side.

I am the CEO of a dating app company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Binariks?

Our team wanted to resolve many issues that exist in other dating apps, such as outdated content, catfishing, and fake profiles. We had the idea and some design work for the app, but we needed a development team to handle building out the platform.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Binariks developed an iOS and Android version of the app. Their team developed the native apps in PHP and Angular. The app is primarily video-based but also has open-messaging and is self-hosted.

While we came to them with a design, they provided us with feedback and helped us make small adjustments in terms of UI/UX. Their team helped us implement beauty mode which essentially smooths out the user’s skin. They used AR technology to accomplish that. 

What is the team composition?

We work with 10 members of the Binariks team. This includes three iOS developers, two PHP developers, one QA member, two Angular developers, one DevOps engineers, and a project manager.

How did you come to work with Binariks?

I came across Binariks on Clutch while doing research. I was looking for a company based in Ukraine and set up meetings with 10 different development firms. Binariks stood out to us because they were relatively well priced and incredibly communicative. They went out of their way to show us an example of the functionality we wanted to implement into the app before we even decided to work with them.

How much have you invested with them?

At this time, we have invested about $125,000 but we expect to spend $150,000 by the end of the year.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

In terms of testing, everything has been going quite smoothly. The last quarter of 2019 would be mainly for testing and feedback from the end-users themselves. 

How did Binariks perform from a project management standpoint?

We have weekly meetings with the entire Binariks team. Their whole team is in the same physical location which is quite nice. Our teams use Jira to manage the project.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their attitude towards work impressed me. I went to Ukraine because I prefer to take a hands-on approach to building relationships. While there, I mentioned a small feature to see if it had been implemented or not. Within a couple of hours, one of the developers let me know that they had figured out how to make it work. They took my requests seriously and their communication was on point.

Binariks has an actual interest in the project and a desire to see it do well. They don’t just build out functionality, they get personally involved. I always appreciated that they went out of their way to show us their beauty mode feature before we decided to do business with them. Binariks goes out of its way to invest their time in us. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

There’s always room for improvement, but I can’t pinpoint anything. Binariks has been quite great.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I strongly suggest everyone physically fly to their offices. Right away they treated me like I was family. I went to visit them about three months into the project and the communication improved immensely. Their energy was just amplified. I would advise anyone working with them go visit earlier and just shake their hands and build a personal relationship. It made a huge difference.

They have exceptional attention to detail, so they're able to provide recommendations and find alternate routes to achieve a better user experience. We've had a very successful partnership.

They've delivered everything either on time or ahead of a deadline. We have regular phone calls and use Slack, Zoom, and Chat to stay in touch. Despite working remotely, they've kept us up-to-date with the project and moved us towards our goals.

Binariks helps us with the entire process. They support the UI/UX design and development for the web app. The platform is built using AngularJS, and their team implemented several features that we want. This includes enabling calendar entries, photo uploads, etc. They’re also helping test the app.

I’m a co-founder of Pylink Ltd., a software development and consulting company based in London that serves the finance sector. Apart from consultation services for finance companies, we’re also developing software for creating cashflow models, a type of financial models.

We developed the software model ourselves, but needed an agency to develop the frontend and backend to put it in clients’ hands and for the software to run on a server.

Binariks developed our complete frontend and backend, except for the calculation engine model. We had hired someone to make the initial design prototype, but we weren’t happy with the results. Binariks’ designer remade the whole frontend.

The team includes a project manager, a backend developer, and frontend developer. There were two designers initially, but now we engage with one part-time designer.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

There’s a beta version running where users can go online and create a financial model. This has been our most significant milestone yet.

How did Binariks perform from a project management standpoint?

Our team handles 90% of the project management, including planning and deadlines. We monitor the developers closely because our product is specialized, and it’s faster for us not to have a project management layer between our teams. While they have assistance from us, their performance is excellent.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Being a small startup, they’re the first software development company we’ve worked with. Previously, we used individual contractors. Binariks employs a pool of people with a variety of skillsets.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We’re happy so far. I can’t think of anything.

I would recommend clients have meetings, in the beginning, to go over the outline of their vision. They should allow Binariks to find technical solutions and make development suggestions. Their team is extremely knowledgeable. We were able to benefit from that.

I’m a product manager for eMotorWerks, a car charging company.

What challenges were you trying to address with Binariks?

We were overcommitted and didn’t have enough developers. Our technical lead tried to fill the gap by bringing in is friends’ developers, but that ruined our process because their performance wasn't up to par.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We’re developing a large software platform to manage the charging of vehicles, stations, and different types of batteries. They developed the enrollment landing page for the program, through which users can apply. It processes that information and communicates through the APIs. The utility receives this information and accepts the customer into the program.

It’s a cloud-based service that communicates with our stations through UDP (User Datagram Protocol) packets and allows cloud-to-cloud communication between clients. The vehicle communicates with the cloud, and we communicate to the clients through the HTTP protocol. Binariks works on the backend side using .NET. For the frontend, they have people who support the dashboards for our clients to monitor the charging usage. 

They’ve also been working on another project—that's mostly on the frontend side. We’re doing UIs for the clients, for the utility that they’re working with.

I’m the project manager, and I work with the developers directly. There are around 10 people on their side.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They’re a group of professionals who are knowledgeable in a lot of things, with a great deal of experience and credentials. It’s very hard to find a good developer in this market, but they actually have high-quality people. 

Their work has allowed us to release products quicker and be more efficient. They jump on the project and immediately know what to do, which means we didn’t have to spend too much time explaining. They commit to timelines and hold themselves accountable for their work.

How did Binariks perform from a project management standpoint?

We follow an agile approach with two-week sprints. I assign tickets to them; then they have a manager who keeps track of their performance and hours, which is very helpful and organized. The developers communicate really well, while their CEO is very helpful and responsive if we have any concerns or questions.
