We needed a web development and technical consulting partner to help us apply JAMstack architecture to our project.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted a highly functional website integrated with a headless CMS through the backend. Our headless CMS would make our content accessible through a RESTful API. We hoped our finished site would be fast and secure and wouldn’t require much maintenance time.

I’d been searching for JAMstack experts online without success, so I decided to look for developers who could code in Gatsby and found Bejamas. I called them the next day and they struck me as a perfect fit, given their past success with this development stack.

Our in-house designer provided web UI and designs. Bejamas took the designs, exported them to Zeplin, created content models in Contentful CMS, and wrote frontend code in Gatsby. They connected the forms on our website with Google Spreadsheets so we could see every client submission in detail.

What was the team composition?

We worked with a technical project manager, a lead developer, and a junior developer.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Our main objectives with this project were to increase our website’s security and improve its speed by switching from WordPress to JAMstack. We’ve done that, as the use of a headless Contentful CMS on the backend and Gatsby frontend reduces the possibility of attacks. Our site performance improved as well.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

We managed the project through Asana and addressed each issue there. Our communication with Bejamas and our end client went smoothly, and task delegation was always clear.

Our loading times greatly improved, from five or six seconds to 400 milliseconds.

Their Slack channel enabled focused, frictionless communication with the whole team. They answered questions quickly. I’ve been working in this field for over 10 years, and this was the best experience I've ever had with an agency.

Since JAMstack is a new way of developing websites, they should scope projects thoroughly in advance. That will impact the resources needed.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We loved working with Bejamas to rebuild Charm's website to allow carbon removal subscriptions for consumers and small businesses. The Bejamas team was well organized, had very high speed of iteration in both design and engineering. We were able to spec out and release multiple features every week, and the resulting site had great quality and UX.

We did weekly sprints, and communicated project plans over Slack. Their plans are clear, and work is on time.

We loved that Bejamas fell in love with our projects, and we could feel that their work was heart felt.

Regular PM sync calls to set solid foundation at the first part of the project. Weekly development sprints ran mercilessly. Design discussion happened adhoc on demand.

Denis was doing PM at the beginning while Thom set up the project skeleton. Gracjan was one of the senior. Super-star team who cleared todo lists at lightning speed. Later more juniors joined and they’re also decent. Ralph joined as PM and adopted fast.

No doubt about the impact. The website is the face for any VC company.

Typical best agile practices. Can’t beat it.
