Barnes & Thornburg LLP helped us with stage two trademark screening for both US and global markets.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had some initial calls and we provided Barnes & Thornburg LLP with the documentation from the name selection process. They were responsible for determining what names were a viable candidate through trademark searching. When they did the screening, we supplied them with 10 names. After that, we discussed the search parameters, including the countries we wanted to check.

Although they didn’t have control over the names out in the market, they helped us determine how we could use certain names that weren’t available in some countries. In the end, we selected one name.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The deliverables that Barnes & Thornburg LLP provided were very detailed and explanatory. On top of that, the depth of information they provided was very helpful. To be specific, the team helped us define the risks of the names we wanted to use, and they were instrumental in helping us understand the nuances of trademark law.

How did Barnes & Thornburg LLP perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management was very effective. In addition, they were exceptionally responsive to all our questions, and they delivered on time. We mainly communicated through emails and phone calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were an excellent communicator. We couldn’t have asked for a better partner for trademark information.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. We wouldn’t change anything. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Set your expectations and know that your favorite name might not be trademarked. In addition, find a partner that’s a good communicator so that you can have discussions and measure the risks associated with your potential names.
