Key deliverables included a cinematic entry flow, a three-phase crowdfunding structure, milestone-based content unlocking, an interactive writers’ room, a scene-by-scene screenplay module with comments, a 5,000-tile donor mosaic, and a modular media structure for news, video, and press content.

Milan led the complete art direction of TFT and delivered every issue end-to-end: editorial design system, layout, original illustrations, and print production. The defining move was a cover concept with no text beyond the logo—large, distinctive illustrations that read like posters for imaginary films. Even mandatory elements (barcode, price, issue number) were treated as design material and often integrated into the artwork itself. Inside the magazine, he established a precise cinematic layout language: film and TV stills were set large and kept in their original aspect ratios, while other photos were intentionally reframed into widescreen proportions to match the same visual grammar. Major articles opened with full-page digital collage illustrations inspired by the Polish film-poster tradition. Automat Studio also handled final layout, photo editing, color correction, prepress checks, and press-ready delivery.

What stood out most was his courage in art direction. The ability to convince a publisher to embrace a “text-free cover” approach and a visually dominant language inspired by Polish poster art is something very rare. His design was not only aesthetically striking, but strategically brilliant. We chose him because of his ability to treat design as a strategic tool. His proposal to move away from conventional commercial aesthetics and pursue a more elevated art-direction approach was both bold and precisely targeted to our audience.

Given that all goals were achieved and awards were won, I had no complaints. On the contrary, each time a new visual solution for the next issue arrived, I was genuinely thrilled.

Automat Studio was our main design partner on a broad, demanding engagement that lasted several years. They first worked on our main portal, a large platform combining company presentation, publishing, sales, news, online bookstore content, journals, forms, advertising, and printing services. The challenge was to organize a huge amount of material without making the experience heavy or confusing. 
They also designed the archive of official publications and the platform for valid regulations and general acts, where success depended on information architecture, search, filtering, navigation, and clarity. 
Later, when the system evolved into E-Glasnik, Automat Studio led the full rebrand, including the multilingual logo, visual identity, and a wide range of print and promotional materials. What stood out most was their ability to treat the work as a system, not decoration, bringing long-term order, consistency, and usability across complex platforms.

They developed our corporate identity and helped structure the wider portfolio around two core platforms: Mobipal, a mobile top-up/payment platform built with government-linked institutions, and Parkpal, a digital parking payment system used by major cities. They created a shared design logic across both products while preserving clear differentiation in positioning and communication. They also supported Roto as a separate spin-off product. On the UX/UI side, they defined core architecture, interface principles, and a reusable design system that extended across product, web, proposals, and marketing materials, giving our teams in five countries a consistent and credible foundation.

This included strategic planning of the visual narrative, editorial design (complete layout, typographic system, and print prepress for a 300+ page publication), creation of 40+ original illustrations and visual motifs, and full UI/UX design for srpskikod.org.

The key challenge was “visual engineering”—how to transform a traditional “code” into the logic and elements of a strategy game, while keeping the content serious, clear, and highly readable. The final output was built as a robust system, enabling later expansions without losing identity or coherence.

• Promotional materials, with a focus on the DVD cover/packaging. A key goal was to consistently translate the identity onto the physical edition and the main promotional touchpoints—especially through the DVD packaging design, as it is the “first impression” the audience holds in their hands and uses to immediately judge the tone and quality of the content.

• Design and full layout of the book (a ~250-page monograph + integrated DVDs). The book was conceived as a serious, approximately 250-page monograph with a clear structure, typographic hierarchy, and a spread rhythm that allows for easy reading—while carefully integrating photographs, quotes, and supporting elements. The edition also included two DVDs, with dedicated pockets integrated into the covers, so the goal was for the entire product to feel coherent and high-quality—both visually and functionally. The monograph achieved a strong rhythm and the gravitas of a publication built to last.
• The website was not a promotional site, but a complete web edition of the project: it contained the full content of the book, complemented by selected video clips from the series as illustration and an extension of the text. The goal was to organize a large volume of content clearly and transparently, and to ensure the digital experience felt as serious as the printed one—following the same art direction and visual identity as the monograph. Print and digital supported each other, with a special aim to use the digital edition to reconnect audiences with an older, printed medium—a connection the younger generation is gradually losing.
• Branding and digital presence for the series. In addition to the first series, Automat Studio was responsible for the full visual identity, promotional materials, and website for the documentary series.  The objective was to maintain a consistent aesthetic language across both series while giving each its own distinct character. The studio successfully translated the spiritual and historical depth of the icons into a modern digital and print format, ensuring that the marketing materials and the website served as an educational and immersive extension of the TV series itself.

The scope included the complete design of the monograph (around 250 pages: layout, typography, structure, prepress preparation), cover design with an integrated solution for two DVDs via dedicated pockets, defining the project’s visual language (handwritten elements and storyboard illustrations as an integral part of the identity), and designing the website as an extensive multimedia edition that brings together the full book content and selected video clips from the series—under the same art direction as the printed edition. Everything worked as one unified whole rather than three separate projects. The scope also extended to the complete branding and web presence for a second series, applying the same rigorous art direction to ensure a unified brand family for our cultural projects.

The outcome was a distinctive and consistent visual identity that unified all formats of the project—fully appropriate and appealing both for the primary target audience and for other potential viewers/readers. The monograph and the website gained a mature, professional look ready for public presentation and distribution, while the physical edition (book with two DVDs in cover pockets) felt thoughtful, functional, and premium. The physical product gave the impression of a serious, collectible edition. A particularly successful element of the art direction was the integration of handwritten materials (storyboard drawings and costume sketches). Although some of these materials were created later, they were incorporated in a way that feels completely natural—adding warmth, creativity, and a “process” tone that modernizes the atmosphere without undermining the dignity of the theme.

Most impressive was the ingenuity in art direction: they recognized that within a theme like this, “preparatory” materials (handwriting, sketches, storyboard drawings) could be used as an authentic narrative layer—and where such materials did not exist, they conceived and created new ones that felt completely natural.  1) The “Prevention Package” (Adults/Adolescents): A complete visual identity using sophisticated photo-collage art direction. Deliverables included a comprehensive textbook for peer educators, educational board games (box, board, and cards—incl. Trafedo), posters, and supporting promotional materials.

2) “Miša & Maša” (Children): A child-friendly prevention system featuring character design, a comic-style large-format poster, coloring books, puzzles, a storybook, and the “1, 2, 3 From Home to School” board game. Every asset was modular, allowing for easier translation and adaptation across different formats and media.

Automat Studio has the ability to translate "invisible" social problems into a powerful visual language. They didn't just design books; they designed a psychological framework for education. The fact that their work from 14 years ago still looks modern and is being used across Europe and wider today is a proof of their exceptional craft. They were not just designers; they were deep-thinking strategic partners capable of translating ideas into breathtaking design!

Regretably we didn't have sufficient budget to involve them in every single program we run. Their impact is transformative.
