We initially hired Atomic Object to build out the front end mobile experience for the Flow mobile app.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Atomic Object's scope included development, project delivery, and some support in project and product definition. They helped deliver a Flow mobile app written in the Deepsky codebase (front end only) on iOS and Android. After that deliverable, we retained Atomic Object to further develop more products. They helped deliver Lighthouse, a web-based leasing product, Waves, a web-based internal tool, and DeepDive, a web-based developer de-bug tool.

What is the team composition?

Probably around 40 across the lifespan of the project.

Our CTO had worked with Atomic Object in the past.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in November 2023, and the project is still ongoing.

We needed help building a functioning beta app to test and deploy with early customers. We also needed to build the software framework to connect with the smart baseball, handle device operations and data, and present the information to the user in a novel and impactful way.

Atomic Object has been helping us with the BLE stack and building a mobile app using React Native. They’ve also been conducting customer discovery and user interviews and doing design work.

Atomic Object also did a good job scoping the project requirements, budget, staffing model, and overall complexity. They had worked on a few other hardware plus software projects, so there was precedence.

We started working together in April 2025, and the engagement is ongoing.

We’ve seen a technical spike, demo app, and feature implementation. We review these with the team at each step and make adjustments.

John and Jonah (managing partners at the Ann Arbor office) have great business sense, which is invaluable to GripFusion. We’re paying for not only a technical team but a resource that’s able to help us in many other ways navigate the uncertain launch phase of a startup.
