BACKGROUND
Please describe your company and your position there.
I am the CEO of a health tech startup, which is a patient network that collects health solutions from best treatments to best doctors. Using our platform, patients can share their experiences and we aggregate this information to share with other patients.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
For what projects/services did your company hire Apzumi, and what were your goals?
We hired Apzumi as a technical partner to help us develop our technology. The company developed an apple and android application, and a web based admin panel
SOLUTION
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
After searching high and low across Fiver, Upwork, Clutch and Google, we wanted to work with someone who has expertise on creating HIPAA-compliant apps. Apzumi really stood out. We got to look at the past projects conducted, and were impressed with the quality and complexity of their past projects. In our initial conversations, they were thorough, timely, fast with deliverables and showed how they have the technical know how to get our product out. We were between a few other companies but Apzumi from the start was committed to making our project a success, and they sure did deliver.
Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.
Apzumi created a Hybrid mobile app on both IOS and Android and a web admin panel for the administration process.
How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
Initially COO and CEO when estimations were created. Later, the team consisted of UI/UX expert, PM and developers (flutter, frontend and backend developers).
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
We developed our social network, which was done exactly how we hoped for it to be created. In addition, the survey platform created. The survey platform created used a completely new technology, and the Apzumi team took it upon themselves to learn how it not only works, but also, how to implement the tool to our platform. Even if the team doesn't know how to do something initially, they will find a way, which is what I appreciate about working with Apzumi.
Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.
The team is working in an incremental way to deliver the newest version of the App. The Project Manager is helpful and transparent, explains risks if there is any obstacle faced by the team. We are communicating via Slack to solve any ongoing issues and connect for Sprint Planning and Sprint Review meetings. Whole Apzumi team is very friendly and stands up whenever there is a need to take action.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
I am impressed about the partnership of Apzumi with our startup. They've been integral to our growth. The team is knowledgeable and always makes sure we're satisfied with our work. They go above and beyond their expectations. When we needed assistance explaining our technologies to programs and partners, Apzumi's team not only helped prepare for meetings but was present at them. The Apzumi team indeed went above and beyond the role of technical partner. Their dedication to our project was unmatched compared to any vendor we had previously worked with.

SOLUTION
How did you select this vendor?
Initial research was done online and in the network. Apzumi proved expertise in the healthcare industry and showed engagement and willingness to work on the partnership level.
Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.
First step in the project was the discovery of our goals and needs. Based on that Apzumi proposed plan for next phases. Following step was to prepare designs in cooperation between us and a UI/UX specialist from Apzumi. The initial idea was to update the current designs to make them easier to use, but Apzumi did not stop there. They created a whole new application, that was focused on the final user. They also suggested what functions to keep and what to remove from the application to make it a full product that a user would like to use and would not get lost in the multitude of options.

COO and CEO in the initial phase of the project when estimations were provided and architecture decisions were made. Later the team consisted of UI/UX expert and a PM.

Currently the application is being tested by the first users. In fact, a clinical observation study is getting kicked off with a major US Neurology center for epileptic patients. We will receive feedback from these patients and caregivers in real-world scenarios. So far the application is working smoothly and is user friendly. We are happy about that. We are looking for further cooperation and project expansion.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
The project manager was transparent about project progress. Always willing to help and explain risks and difficulties faced by the team. Apzumi provides ongoing mobile application development services for a health tech firm. They're helping the client build a HIPAA-compliant mobile app for Android, as well as a web-based version.
The app is still being tested, but it has received positive initial feedback from internal and external stakeholders — in fact, some investors are impressed with it. Apzumi leverages their knowledge and expertise to deliver high-quality work on time. Their problem-solving skills are notable, too.
The client submitted this review online.
BACKGROUND
Please describe your company and your position there.
I am the CEO of a health technologies firm headquartered in San Francisco, CA.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
For what projects/services did your company hire Apzumi, and what were your goals?
We wanted a HIPAA compliant mobile application that could overcome barriers associated with physical rehabilitation. This involved a mobile application (Android) for patients and clinicians as well as a web application to manage users and clinics.
SOLUTION
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
Apzumi reached out through LinkedIn. After meeting with them and learning about their capabilities, decided that they were the kind of company that we wanted to work with.
Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.
We had a series of meetings to lay out exactly our goals/objectives, and the elements that were needed for the project. We provided the team with wireframes and access to our non-HIPAA compliant code. Within weeks, they had done a code inspection and provided details about how to improve the product by suggesting changes to the workflow and code. Towards the end of development, I asked to add a video conferencing features, and was provided with options and costs to do so. The app was ran through beta testing before launching and is now available on the app store.
How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
At the very initial phase of the project Clevel (CEO, CTO, COO) of Apzumi was involved to help scope the project and suggest an initial approach.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
We are currently testing the app with patients and caregivers, and initial feedback is very positive. In addition, having a HIPAA compliant mobile app has been critical in reaching out to investors, who have also been impressed with the app.
Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.
Apzumi prepared detailed scope, cost and timeline before signing the contract which was very helpful to plan the project on our end. The Requirement Analysis phase was organized with a series of workshops where we discussed ideas and user flows starting from low-resolution sketches and adding details when getting closer to the final result.
Development was organized in Sprints with iterative increments delivered for our testing. SCUM framework was used to manage the delivery. We used JIRA, Confluence, SLACK and email for project management and communication.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
This was my first experience developing a mobile app, and Apzumi provided me with multiple options regarding how things can be done. The suggestions helped to improve the quality and functionality of the app. They also had to do a lot of work to fix bugs in the code developed by one of my own programmers, but were very communicative about the issues and consulted with me on how to move forward.
I'm impressed with how they come up to me with problems and solutions and their level of technical skill. The project managers and technical managers were very impressive and the work was very high quality.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
No. I think they did a great job and worked well given that I had never developed a mobile app before and that they had to fix a lot of bugs in the non-HIPAA app code that was developed by my own programmers.

Apzumi is developing a web app for a computer software company. Their main goal is to make it easier for surgical patients to follow complex instructions with meaningful patient self-service.
Apzumi's output is user friendly, as proven by the lack of support inquiries for their platform. The client is pleased with these results. The vendor is also notably transparent, knowledgeable, and respectful. They show a keen understanding of the healthcare industry in comparison to other vendors.
The client submitted this review online.
BACKGROUND
Please describe your company and your position there.
I'm co-founder and CEO of Frontive, a digital health SaaS provider that makes it easier for patients to follow their doctor's instructions and less expensive for providers to support patient self-service at scale.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
For what projects/services did your company hire Apzumi, and what were your goals?
Our goal was to make a responsive web app to complement our Alexa skill to accomplish two objectives:
make it easier for surgical patients to follow complex instructions during the pre-op preparation and post-op recovery phases
support more meaningful patient self service, which frees up clinical staff from routine, repetitive administrative activities without sacrificing the patient experience in the process
SOLUTION
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
Initial research was done online and within our professional networks. Three companies were invited for video calls to discuss our project, get an overview of their previous experience with similar apps, and obtain cost/time estimates. Apzumi distinguished itself in several ways, most notably: proven expertise in the healthcare industry; intelligent questions that demonstrated a deep understanding of the project's needs, and; overall responsiveness and willingness to truly partner with us on the project.
Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.
Stage 1 in the project was the Discovery of our goals and needs. From those conversations, Apzumi proposed a plan for the subsequent phases.
Stage 2 (Design) involved the preparation of designs in cooperation with our team and a UI/UX specialist from Apzumi. After a few iterations, Apzumi presented a development plan based on the agreed upon design.
Stage 3 (Development) was organized in bi-weekly sprints. After each sprint, we reviewed progress in joint interactive demo sessions. We provided feedback which was incorporated into the next interactions until we reached our desired MVP objectives and we satisfied with both the UI/UX and overall performance of the application.
Technologies used: React, integration with AWS Cognito, Alexa Skills and existing backend APIs
How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
Apzumi's COO and CTO participated in the initial phase of the project when estimates were provided and architecture decisions were made. In later stages, the team consisted of a UI/UX expert, Project Manager, React developer and QA specialist.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
Currently the application is live on production and the first group of patients are using it. At this point, we are collecting detailed feedback from these users to help guide the product roadmap and the next set of features/enhancements. So far, the application is working as expected and seems to be very user friendly, as the number of support inquiries has been small. We are extremely pleased with the current situation and are looking forward to further collaboration and project expansion with Apzumi.
Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.
The project manager was transparent about project progress, which is always appreciated. Their team is always willing to help during the unexpected surprises that every project encounters. Likewise, they were very clear and knowledgeable with respect to communicating risks and/or difficulties faced by developers or other specialists. The Project Manager was an active participant in product design by providing useful suggestions and solutions to issues.
Lastly, we found the Project Manager and everyone else on the team possessed a very positive, energetic attitude, which is always appreciated! Communication was done via Slack, Google Meet, and (occasionally) email, which encouraged faster turnaround than other methods we've used in the past. Detailed progress was tracked in Jira and Wrike.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
Apzumi truly distinguished itself from other vendors by their understanding of the healthcare market and an appreciation for the peculiarities of healthcare content and regulations. This allowed both teams to operate on a high level without the time it often takes to bring a vendor 'up to speed' on complex topics. I
n addition, Apzumi's transparency during the project was refreshing, as was their ability to process feedback from us while also pushing back when appropriate. The entire team was very proactive and the quality of work was exceptional. Apzumi has earned our trust and we look forward to working with them going forward!

An analytics startup was looking to develop a prediction algorithm focused on healthcare, so they hired Apzumi to develop a POC. They used Java and Angular for the frontend and Python for the development.
Thanks to Apzumi, the client was able to garner strong partnership support to move the product forward. The internal stakeholders were particularly impressed with the team's collaborative approach to the project, and their willingness to grow with the organization in the long term.
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this
client over the phone. Below is an edited
transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
My name is Ram and I’m the founder and managing director of CHAI Analytics. We’re a micro startup focused on on-demand prediction powered by AI.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Apzumi?
We’re specifically focused on the healthcare space and with Apzumi, we were trying to see whether we could develop a prediction algorithm to predict emergency demand. We were exploring what was possible with the data they had available, and it was essentially a bit of a go and no go situation before we developed a viable product.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Apzumi provided us with analytics and data modeling. They designed the proof of concept using Java and Angular for the frontend, and Python for the prediction algorithm development.
The output for this project was essentially a prototype prediction algorithm to test the accuracy for various scenarios and iterations of the algorithmic approach. While the platform is still in development, what we worked on was to test the logic that would drive the backend, and apply different data science techniques.
What is the team composition?
On a day-to-day basis, we had a project manager and algorithmic developer. I also had direct contact with the COO and CTO to ensure that some of the ideas were implemented by the ground team. Apart from them, there was also a client lead who was responsible for contracting and admin duties.
How did you come to work with Apzumi?
I believe I found them through LinkedIn and Clutch.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent around €8,000 EUR ($9,700 USD).
What is the status of this engagement?
From a project perspective, we worked together from March–July 2020.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
My brief with Apzumi was to move the product forward, but also arm me with enough evidence to convince my network to invest their time and share more data with us. We wanted to move forward so it excites customers enough for them to partner with CHAI analytics.
With that in mind, the output had enough evidence for me to obtain about 3–4 strong partnership candidates in the UK. These candidates are still in contact with our company, and Apzumi’s work certainly enabled those partnerships.
How did Apzumi perform from a project management standpoint?
The project was certainly a collaborative process to get to the end result. I would do research on my end, they would do it on their end, we would share ideas and suggestions, and they will add them to the pipeline in terms of testing. We iteratively figured out what our best route forward was so their expertise and my domain knowledge married pretty well.
Moreover, we had a project manager who was extremely structured. We had weekly meetings and one point of contact managed the developers to keep the whole project well organized. I worried more about the thinking rather than holding Apzumi accountable because they clearly knew what they were doing.
They asked for my preference and we basically landed on Slack for the day-to-day, and Zoom calls on a weekly basis and for more structured catch-ups.
What did you find most impressive about them?
From the get-go, we were impressed by how Apzumi embodied the partnership model. They made me and my company feel like we were as important as the big players, and they were also willing to invest their time and effort in growing the relationship.
Even though the engagement was on a smaller scale, I didn’t feel like I was given any less time — it felt like it was a great start to a long-term relationship. They were in it for the long run rather than just for a project.
Additionally, Apzumi was comfortable working with a level of ambiguity. They balanced the commercial pressures of scoping a project accurately without putting pressure on me. I went in with my eyes open in terms of the limits of their knowledge, and they were very open and honest about what they were good at and where they had to learn.
That gap only built trust in terms of going back to the partnership, and figuring things out together.
Are there any areas they could improve?
The documentation on the back of the project was more up to me, in terms of specifying the scope a little bit better. However, from my perspective, I think it was important to ensure that there was continuity.
The process documentation should’ve been done in a way that anyone from the team can easily pick it up to move forward. This isn’t necessarily a criticism per se, but I think they could’ve improved this area a bit more.

Apzumi worked from existing graphics to create mockups and designs for an iOS and Android app. They then built the product, which serves as a social, news, and work hub for parliamentarians.
Apzumi’s work received positive feedback from users who were thrilled about the usefulness of the app. The team managed the project exceptionally, completing their work ahead of time, and they maintained an open line of communication. Their willingness to understand the business was also noteworthy.

BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the communications assistant at the European Parliamentary Forum (EPF). We are a nonprofit organization and the secretary for a network of parliamentarians that work on sexual and reproductive rights.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Apzumi?
We were looking for a development company that created mobile apps. We had worked with another company before, but it wasn’t great. We decided to look for another company to create an app that allows parliamentarians to connect, share knowledge, communicate, and network.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Apzumi created an iOS and Android app based on graphics that we brought from the previous company we worked with. We had a color scheme and a general layout, but the team changed it a little bit to make sure that the UX was easy to navigate.
They created mockups and designs for all of the different features. Users can see news on the app, and there’s also a calendar with relevant events. Additionally, the app has key resources, which is just a drive with different folders where people can access resources on how COVID-19 impacts birth, for example.
Users can also sign petitions on the app and find campaign materials. There's a list with all of the users where they can contact one another.
What is the team composition?
We worked with a project manager, a UX expert, a QA specialist, two Java developers, and two Ionic developers.
How did you come to work with Apzumi?
We found them through Clutch. We had interviews with six different companies but chose Apzumi in the end.
How much have you invested with them?
The project cost €60,000 (approximately $72,900 USD), and it was paid in stages.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked with them from July–December 2020. They finished three weeks in advance.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We launched the app in two different meetings, and during both launches, the members were excited to join the app. They thought it was helpful and that it would facilitate their parliamentary work.
How did Apzumi perform from a project management standpoint?
It was great. They were way ahead of schedule. We had a WhatsApp group, and we also had a call every 2–3 weeks via Google Hangouts where Apzumi shared their screen and showed us what they had done in the previous week. That was helpful, and it was nice to keep track of what was going on.
They also gave us access to Confluence, which they were using for internal communication so that we could see what they were doing and make sure that it was right.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Apzumi went into a lot of detail and made an effort to understand what we do and what our aim is. For example, when they created sample petitions, campaigns, or news articles, they didn't just insert Latin script; they actually found relevant examples from the website such as World Human Rights Day. That was a very nice touch.
Our previous app development partner didn’t make an effort to learn about us and to understand our work and our mission. For example, when they created mockups, they used stock images of young models in their 20s for the user profiles. That wasn’t a very realistic portrayal of parliamentarians who are usually older.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, not that I can think of. The only thing that happened was that the project manager left the company, but Apzumi was very quick to communicate with us and was transparent.
They told us who the new project manager was going to be, and we were able to meet this new project manager. There was nothing they could’ve done better.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Make use of all the resources that Apzumi shares with you. For example, when they shared the Confluence tool with us, we didn't check every site on it.
It's really important to check all of them and make sure you comment in the beginning because afterward, they had continued to work with that graphic that they had introduced but we wanted them to change something very small.
That made their work more complicated, which was our fault. If we had checked it before, it would have been easier for them as well.
