The project covered a full overhaul of our LMS through a customized Moodle build. 1) Project onboarding and environment setup, including configuring the local environment for the legacy CEP plugin and preparing for the transition.

2) In-depth analysis of the existing codebase, third-party dependencies, and Adobe’s migration guidelines to accurately assess the required changes.

3) Plugin reengineering by rebuilding the project using React and UXP Developer Tools, transferring the core structure from CEP and rewriting key functionalities using UXP’s native APIs.

4) Implementation of complex features such as seamless in-Photoshop asset browsing, version-controlled saving, and batch processing to ensure consistent functionality across both CEP and UXP platforms.

5) UI updates and iterative testing to refine the user experience and verify stable performance in both environments.

Despite potential risks like outdated dependencies and limited UXP usage documentation, the team maintained steady progress and delivered a dual-compatible plugin that met all performance and usability expectations.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

There were two key expected outcomes:

1) Timely delivery of seamless access to Pics.io functionality within Photoshop, regardless of whether the user is on the legacy CEP platform or the newer UXP-based version.
This requirement was met. Initially, we expected a shorter timeline; however, the team informed us about the potential risks of speeding things up at each step. In the end, we found the right balance between quality and time constraints.

2) Minimal disruption during transition = seamless user experience. We were eager to avoid any issues or a fragmented experience, and the goal of creating a dual-compatible plugin was fully achieved. Many of our clients, who are used to the reliability and convenience of the Pics.io Photoshop plugin, continue to use it in their usual workflow without disruption.

After the team provided a roadmap, the timelines for each stage were agreed upon, and the team adhered to them.

Overall, we’re satisfied to the point that we’re already planning to collaborate on another project. The only suggestion we’d make is that it would be preferable for the same developer (or team of developers) to stay on the project from start to finish, so they have full context throughout. We’d also recommend clearly defining each party’s role in the onboarding process from the beginning. From our side, we’d prefer the AnyforSoft team to take the lead on most of the research — although we understand that some product-specific details can only come from us, and we’re ready to share that information whenever needed.
