kaufDA is the ultimate deals app from Germany. Users can look for different shopping deals on grocery, cosmetics, furniture, or electronics and always can stay a step ahead in the savings game. Also, they can browse on discounts and set up alerts for their favorite stores. Shopping was never been that smooth & easy, thanks to kaufDA.

For what projects/services did your company hire Admiral Media?

We had the challenge to encourage app downloads and increase kaufDA’s user base with TikTok Ads & ensure a profitable business. To succeed we had to find the best and fastest scaling target audience and creative strategy for the app.

What were your goals for this project?

Performance marketing on TikTok required a specific strategy to attract kaufDA’s audience. The goal was to find out if TikTok is a good channel to increase kaufDA's user base under high quality.

With the wide experience of Admiral Media on TikTok – as user acquisition channel, and as well as working with TikTok influencers – we were convinced that we’re in the best hands to encourage app downloads and increase kaufDA’s user base.

After initial tests with in-house produced creatives that looked like regular TikToks we decided to get even more professional content from people who make a living from it: content creators & influencers. Admiral media needed to test various communication strategies & were able to identify the 2 main performing approaches very quickly:

• Inspiring, authentic & good-quality-content for the shopping-lovers
• Targeting an audience that matches the persona of the typical kaufDA user

We mainly worked with a campaign manager for the TikTok ads, an influencer expert and the founder of Admiral media.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Within 1 month – September 2020 – we generated almost 70 Million Impressions in Germany and:

• Increased user growth by 1000% in one specific day (+731% overall comparing regular ads vs. creators ads) 
• Generated an overall 146% growth in user activity comparing regular ads vs. creator ads
• Decreased CPI by 18% Good content really makes a difference.

We saw a measurable difference between regular creatives and influencer creatives. Also, the engagement rate per impression was much higher, and the CPI much lower. Traditional ads vs. content creator ads led to:

• Increased growth by 1000% in one specific day
• 731% user growth overall
• 146% growth in user activity *Within 1 month, 70 Million Impressions, Germany, Android and iOS.

Glovo is already present in over 22 countries and +400 cities, making life easier and better for millions of people around the world. The app is available for free on both iOS and Android. I am a Performance Marketing Lead in charge of testing for new channels with the objective of UA.

We dedicated a test budget to deeply explore the possibilities with TikTok channel on both Polish & Spanish markets for both devices: iOS & Android. We saw a good performance in our campaigns in Poland, with a competitive cost compared to other channels. We found the answers we were looking for reaching conclusions on the channel performance, and good insights on how to take advantage of TikTok

The workflow was effective and proactive from both sides. We have weekly meetings where we review past performance and discuss next steps.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They know what they do and are flexible to adapt to your needs. They can quickly and effectively analyze the performance of a campaign and come up with new ideas to meet our goals.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Scaling in Tiktok is based on user-generated content, developing unique creatives is a challenge for companies like Glovo. Admiral Media is helping us to develop the strategy to scale further on Tiktok, their insights on several markets are key to understanding the characteristics of this channel. We are happy and look forward to working with them.

The whole team is responsive to our needs and is committed to producing outstanding results. They do exactly what they say they’re going to do, within the agreed scope of work and time-frames. From the very first day, it was clear that our success is their top priority. Thanks to Admiral Media we were able to scale our spending by more than 200% while achieving our target ROAS!

Apart from intensive creative testing and channel exploration we improved all KPIs using our systematic approach of test & learn. We categorized all communication ideas and tested them against target audiences in all target markets. We furthermore introduced a new way to analyze performance results using pRank methodology. The pRank takes into consideration what we want to achieve in a market and enables us to identify potential campaign-winners and losers faster. F.i. we entered Korea and focused on getting enough installs to learn faster -> with Admiral's pRank it seemed to work even more efficiently.

Their dedication and the partnership that Admiral Media provides us with is really unique. What challenge were you trying to address with Admiral Media?

We had a hard time getting any users through Facebook and needed some help.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Admiral Media helped us with our social media marketing. Their main task was to acquire more users through Facebook. 

They used Adjust to track and help us get more insight on the users we acquire. For each user we acquire, we can see if they’re likely to uninstall the app quickly or keep the app for months. This is something we didn’t have before. Admiral Media introduced us to this platform to us and helped us with it. We still use it even though we’re no longer working with them; it was really helpful.

What is the team composition?

We worked with the head of Admiral Media, one of his assistants, and a creative director. The main contact was the head of the company.

How did you come to work with Admiral Media?

They proposed a shore time frame of about six weeks. We did a test and didn’t have to commit to any long-term contracts in the beginning. It was very good and we agreed to work with them for the entire year.

We spent about €50,000 (approximately $55,000 USD).

We worked together from April until December 2019.

It was a very good collaboration. Our main goal was to work with Admiral Media for a year and get insights from them about how to build up a team in our company to do the tasks that they helped us with. That’s exactly what we achieved. They helped us identify tools like Adjust. They showed us how to do ads on Facebook properly. They provided us a lot of training. Now, we’re able to use these solutions and strategies on our own.

We weren’t strict on deadlines but they would have committed to any deadlines if we gave them any. They were professional yet light-hearted. Whenever we had a problem, we could hit them up and have a call within a couple of minutes. They were always available and very easy to talk to.

When we launched our first app marketing campaigns we quickly realized that we will need professional help. At that stage our company was still rather small and the team 200% product focused. So the decision to look for an experienced app marketing agency that has a proven track record with rapid growth apps wasclear. We wanted an agency that would be able to run various user acquisition campaigns across all digital marketing channels but also understands the technical complexities of tracking & reporting in the app industry.

Admiral Media started with acquisition campaigns on Facebook, Google & Apple Search. They also helped us finding the best target markets, audiences and which creatives perform best. From here Admiral Media quickly offered to scale even further across channels like Snapchat, Pinterest, TikTok or native ads / content marketing ads. We didn’t expect such a portfolio and capabilities but we are happy that Admiral Media was able to hypergrow our marketing spend & usergrowth in such a fast pace. Obviously this only worked so well because of their understanding of technical limitations and opportunities, the almost 24/7 service & strong analytical setup.

From our side it is basically me and my co-Founder who challenge the work of Admiral Media. We provide them with creative assets and on their end we currently have a dedicated team of 3 experienced adops working fulltime on our growth.

Since the beginning of our work with Admiral Media, we have seen only one direction: upwards. This is certainly also driven by our great product but I wouldn’t have expected such an exponential user growth of 500% each month sofar – on a global scale. At this stage we cannot disclose more numbers

Well, the results speak for themselves.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

At the moment it seems we are their best client – at least they give us that feeling by being available almost 24/7 – campaigns get managed, optimised etc even over the weekend. Sometimes I see them doing changes on the campaigns late at night. Not sure if they can keep that pace but for now this is certainly something I wouldn’t expect from a standard agency.

Data Science – they could improve their science game a bit but I am sure this willcome over time.
