What was the scope of their involvement?

Our client needed to organize an event with around 300 participants and wanted an app that could provide event information, schedules, and a way for users to ask questions or send feedback. I provided all the specifications for the app and they assembled it using PhoneGap for iOS and Android. It was a pretty straightforward job and they moved through it quickly.

There were five people including the project manager.

The project ran about three months from late 2015–early 2016.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The app was well-made and their team did a good job of responding to feedback from screenshots or videos. Whenever there was something wrong, they’d generate a solution promptly.

How did 9series Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

We primarily used Skype and email to keep in touch, although the amount of communication varied with the phase of the project. During implementation, we didn’t have Skype meetings regularly, but we talked much more frequently during QA testing. I’d send them emails almost every day, and we used calls to clarify any concerns. For our app’s launch, they kept a team member on call for us in case of emergency bugs, even though it was early in the morning for them due to the time difference. They were very accommodating overall.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were professional, responsive, and quick to deliver the solutions I asked for.

Be clear about what you want and need, but remain open to any suggestions they may offer.

At the beginning of the engagement, we exchanged ideas for the app to determine specifications and drawing plans. 9series Solutions Pvt. Ltd developed the app for iOS devices, but we might extend to Android at some point in the future. Near the end of the app’s development, we had to add a small value to the base application to get approved for the App Store. The team took care of this in a timely manner.

There’s been at least one engineer, a business liaison, and a graphic artist involved at different points in the project.

9series Solutions Pvt. Ltd completed the app and we launched it on the market. Users enjoy the platform.

I hired 9series to develop software to collect the data of the patients affected by arrhythmia. The data is collected following a questionnaire that includes personal history and clinical data. The software needed a simple analysis tool to stratify the patients hospitalized for cardiovascular diseases, and more specifically for arrhythmia.

What were your goals for this project?

The system was designed to support physicians to deliver the best treatment to the patients in their everyday work. It would help predict the clinical profiles with a higher probability to respond to the medications or when surgical intervention is necessary.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

I contacted different companies with similar skills and portfolios, and described the overall idea of the software and the tasks it needed perform. 9series were the best company in terms of quality/cost ratio and previous experience. They showed a very high level of competence and professionalism in their approach to the upcoming work.

Can you go into detail about the services they provided and the scope of the project?

They organized Skype meetings to define the detail of the work. They developed a tool of analysis designed to simplify complex parameters. I asked to make some modifications to the software during the generation of the system and they quickly did those. After they finished, they checked the system for bugs and tested the performance of the system. In addition, they provided me with instructions about how to store the software on a server.

What was the team composition?

I interacted with Raxit (Business Strategist, 9Series) to define the project and my expectations. Then I mostly interacted with the software engineer that generated the system. I also communicated with someone in charge of administration.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The project is still at a very initial stage, but it was pivotal to engage further business development. It will allow me for applying to several funding mechanisms to further develop the system and start its commercialization.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

I'm very satisfied with the way they managed the work. I had weekly meetings with the 9series team to implement and refine the ongoing project. I was constantly updated about the progress on the work and when there was some doubt about my specific needs, they put that task on standby and contacted me right away for clarification. At the end of our business relationship, 9series delivered a high-quality product as I expected.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I asked for modifications to the system that were not discussed during the initial phase of the project. They agreed to all my requests with a reasonable increase in the cost. In addition, they were always very responsive to all my requests and questions, and eventually, the work was delivered before the established deadline.

Overall I consider myself very satisfied.

I’m the technical director of CrossChecks. We have a compliance-based OS for the aviation industry — in particular for the commercial drone industry. Our OS is geared for the South African market at the moment, but we plan to expand our target market significantly in the near future.

What challenge were you trying to address with 9series Inc?

As experienced aviation operators, we recognized the gap in the emerging commercial drone market — it was an industry entirely strangled by regulation, duplication and extensive paperwork. 

As a result, our vision was to create a subscription-based operating system that would take the paperwork out of the process to free up huge amounts of time and help commercial drone companies get going with what they do best. We decided to engage with 9series Inc because we had no experience in software development and were looking for a professional company to support the project.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The 9series Inc team helped us with every aspect of the development from the look and feel, to the full functionality of the system.

The custom software is completely interactive with numerous modules. All the modules talk to each other and the system is able to keep track of expiry dates of licenses, certificates, and approvals and send out alerts.  Each company’s approvals and limitations are taken into account for total compliance in all operations and users are able to store all of their documents, monitor expiry dates, track their assets, plan and fly missions, select numerous reports and effectively communicate. It is intricate and complex but presented in a simple way.

The subscribers are Commercial Drone Companies and among their multiple heir users are pilots, quality managers, flight operations managers, and safety managers who all utilize the system for their different needs and requirements. The software keep operators 100% compliant all the time, which means that the system doesn’t allow users to operate outside their limitations and approvals. 

Our software went live in August 2021, and 9series Inc has offered full support for a couple of months to fix up small glitches that appear in the system and make any changes.  This is a system that’s going to continue to grow as we start adding modules to our platform — there’s a lot of future work involved here. We’re currently in the phase where we’re marketing, demonstrating, and training companies to use the software. Going forward, we have a monthly retainer with 9series where they’re going to manage our live site, too.

We have had teams working with us on different aspects from the production of a Functional Requirement Document to the writing of the code to the management of the live site.  Our main point of contact through the development phase is Rajnikant (CEO).

We were investigating development houses in SA and abroad and a colleague suggested 9series Inc. Within a few hours, 9series contacted us. We had a couple of video calls, and interviewed a few companies.  We liked what we saw in 9series Inc and decided to work with them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

9series Inc has been extremely helpful in creating the look and feel we wanted for our system. The product they’ve built is exceptional and we’ve received very positive feedback from the industry. Specifically, people say they love that our system is clean, simple and very easy to use. On top of that, the system works extremely well. 

As a start-up company, we are also self-funded —  which means that we've placed our life savings on the line for this project. With limited finance, we were open as to how far we could go. The potential project and the platform of the OS is enormous and 9series Inc helped us to cut it down to a solid core that was manageable in our budget. They’ve done a lot of things for no charge because they’re aware of our situation — working over and above what they’ve quoted for. Overall, what they've done for us is quite a rare thing for a business to do.

How did 9series Inc perform from a project management standpoint?

The project has continued to grow in complexity during the development and they grew alongside us — we’re all involved in its growth. We use video calls, WhatsApp and email. We also use Google Sheets for shared interactive feedback.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They provide huge amounts of support to us, and they look at the project for its growth and long-term benefits rather than short-term benefits. As a new business in the operating software industry, we really appreciate that. Overall, they walked us through the project with professionalism and care.

No, we're having a good run with them.

Know what you want and be very clear about your goals. Spend more time figuring things out before the development begins. We wasted a lot of time ourselves because we didn’t go into enough of the tiny details.
