Principal Product Manager, IT Services Company
- Industry: Other industries

- Client size: 201-500 Employees
- Review Type: Phone Interview
- Verified

**The Review** — Jun 26, 2023

**Feedback Summary**: ThirdEye Data successfully provided a proof of concept that met the client's expectations. The tool successfully processed nearly 80% of the expected files. Although the client made some modifications and was unable to perform the implementation, the project was still completed to satisfaction.
""The team demonstrated a great willingness to assist with problem-solving throughout the project.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.I'm the principal product manager for an IT Services and Consulting Company.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with ThirdEye Data?ThirdEye Data helped us build a file ingestion tool that standardized incoming formats into a consistent format, leveraging machine learning.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement? Our company's requirements underwent certain modifications, and although we couldn't implement them, ThirdEye Data successfully delivered the proof of concept that met our expectations. The first thing the system did was take in an Excel CSV or text file. Then the file was formatted to make it machine-readable. This required identifying the location of the main column headers and recognizing when specific files were transposed, with rows becoming columns and vice versa. The data was then reversed to conform to our standard format. It used a combination of logic, text recognition, and field recognition algorithms to determine what information was in certain fields so it could map that to our data model. It then performed certain quality checks on the data to decide whether we would ingest it.We mainly operate in Azure environments. There was an understanding of Azure Cloud and associated technologies. For the machine learning part, it was done primarily on Databricks. They told us they could do some more implementation work, but again, we didn't end up continuing the project and didn't leverage them for those services. What is the team composition?I collaborated with DJ (Founder & CEO) and other team members. DJ served as our primary point of contact throughout the project. How did you come to work with ThirdEye Data?I believe it was through a referral. I wasn't involved in creating the original list of vendors we evaluated, but I was involved in the evaluation. During the stage I was involved in, our team evaluated three or four different vendors. When choosing our contractor, we considered several important factors, such as their experience on similar projects, pricing, and ability to meet our high-security requirements due to our status as a healthcare company.ThirdEye Data was chosen for the project mainly because they could give us more resources at a reduced price point from some of the other competitors. How much have you invested in them?We spent $50,000–$100,000.What is the status of this engagement? We worked with ThirdEye Data from September 2022–December 2022.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? The tool managed to process almost 80% of the files we expected. Although we aimed for a 90% success rate, the outcome was still satisfactory. We didn't experience any bugs or crashes. How did ThirdEye Data perform from a project management standpoint? In terms of project management, I rate them a B. It took a few cycles to get it right, but they were strong technically. Our primary modes of communication were Zoom and email, while our team utilized Azure DevOps for project management. What did you find most impressive about them? The team demonstrated a great willingness to assist with problem-solving throughout the project. ThirdEye Data was adaptable to addressing new challenges as they arose and allocated resources efficiently within our budget. Their support was invaluable. Are there any areas they could improve? In terms of product management, there is room for improvement. Having a senior project manager who is fully dedicated to the project would have been beneficial.Do you have any advice for potential customers? It's essential to clearly understand your project goals and what success looks like to achieve them effectively.

#### AI Consulting for Glass Manufacturing Company

- Project size: $10,000 to $49,999
- Project length: Jan. - June 2020

**Project Summary**: ThirdEye Data provided AI consulting for a glass manufacturer. The team set out to determine whether an AI algorithm would improve the performance, reliability, and quality output of the client’s machinery.

**Review Rating**: 5.0
- Quality: 5.0
- Schedule: 5.0
- Cost: 5.0

**The Reviewer**
Head of R&D, Glas Trösch Group
- Industry: Manufacturing

- Client size: 5,001-10,000 Employees
- Review Type: Phone Interview
- Verified

**The Review** — Jun 7, 2023

**Feedback Summary**: Thanks to ThirdEye Data’s work, the client realized the importance of improving their data quality, and since AI wasn’t applicable, they saved resources on less costly solutions. ThirdEye Data excelled at project management, communication, and timely delivery, meeting all client expectations.
"“Their project management and communication were top-notch.”"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.I’m the head of R&D at Glas Trösch Group, a glass manufacturing and processing company. We have various operation businesses, the biggest of which is the architectural business. Our company manufactures glass and processes installations, then sells them to facade or window builders. We have an international business in Europe that supplies architectural glass to Singapore, Australia, the US, and the Middle East. We have a smaller business in display glass. Our company also supplies cover glass for different applications, mainly to the automotive industry. Additionally, we provide glass in motion for train systems and acrylic for aviation cockpits.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with ThirdEye Data? Our architectural glass manufacturing production was in the Stone Age. At the R&D department, our material scientists didn’t know anything about data and the value that could be generated using it. The idea behind the project was to look at our data and check the possibility of applying AI to our process.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?ThirdEye Data provided us with AI consulting. Initially, we had several meetings to explain our goal. We tasked the team with analyzing whether we should use AI algorithms to increase our manufacturing equipment's performance, reliability, and quality output. What is the team composition? We worked with three teammates from ThirdEye Data. How did you come to work with ThirdEye Data?We found them through a recommendation. I asked a friend who worked at Google for a suggestion, and they recommended ThirdEye Data. How much have you invested with them?We spent approximately $25,000–$50,000. What is the status of this engagement? We worked with them from January–June 2020.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? Thanks to ThirdEye Data’s work, we realized the importance of data acquisition and data quality. We learned that our data quality wasn’t good enough, and AI wasn’t applicable to our kind of production. In our case, this negative result was positive for us, as it enabled us to focus on other solutions that took less time and resources. How did ThirdEye Data perform from a project management standpoint?Their project management and communication were top-notch. ThirdEye Data planned the project well, completed the work on time, and delivered what we expected. What did you find most impressive about them? For me, it was important that a partner matched the deliverables, timeline, and budget, and ThirdEye Data met all those requirements, which is rare in most projects. Are there any areas they could improve? There was nothing they needed to improve; their work was very good. Do you have any advice for potential customers?I recommend working with ThirdEye Data; they’re highly professional and meet expectations.

- Project size: $50,000 to $199,999
- Project length: Feb. - Oct. 2019

**Project Summary**: An AI design platform hired ThirdEye Data to help them generate a proof of concept for their patent application. They helped implement GAN models and set up Cloud computing through Google, among other tasks.

**Review Rating**: 4.5

Owner & CEO, Laiout Inc
- Industry: Other industries

- Client size: 1-10 Employees
- Review Type: Phone Interview
- Verified

**The Review** — Jul 15, 2022

**Feedback Summary**: ThirdEye Data delivered a well-performing system that helped the client successfully develop their patent application. They fostered a collaborative workflow by communicating effectively and working efficiently. Their enthusiasm, professionalism, and top-notch AI development skills stood out.
"“They took the project in stride and had fun with it, and we appreciated that.”"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the owner and CEO of Laiout Inc, an AI-powered design platform.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with ThirdEye Data?

We needed a company that works on AI to generate an idea for us in the architectural space, create a proof of concept, and help us review a patent application.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

ThirdEye Data helped us implement generative adversarial network (GAN) models and set up Cloud computing through Google to run our data sets. They more or less made proprietary software for us that ended up being web-based so we could deploy.

We started the project by providing them with a project brief detailing what we needed out of the engagement. They then provided us with a proposal that covered what we needed to do.

Aside from that, we had a patent attorney prepare our patent application, and ThirdEye Data was kind enough to go over it, review it, and make some suggestions on how to change some of the language. In that case, they went beyond what they were contractually required to do.

What is the team composition?

My main point of contact was Dj (Founder & Google), but I also worked with five other people from ThirdEye Data.

How did you come to work with ThirdEye Data?

I found ThirdEye Data through Clutch.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent somewhere between $50,000–$60,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from February 2019–October 2019.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

ThirdEye Data delivered a system that did what they said it could, and we were able to package that into a patent application. We haven't been awarded the patent yet, but it's undoubtedly a functioning system.

How did ThirdEye Data perform from a project management standpoint?

ThirdEye Data performed well in terms of project management. We primarily communicate through email, Google Meet, and Zoom.

What did you find most impressive about them?

ThirdEye Data was one of the firms that could do this work. I could also tell that this wasn't just another project for them — they took the project in stride and had fun with it, and we appreciated that.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It was sometimes challenging to communicate certain concepts with each other, and that was partially because they were in a different industry than us.

#### Staff Augmentation for Data Services Company
**The Project**
- Services: IT Staff Augmentation
- Project size: Confidential
- Project length: June 2021 - Ongoing

**Project Summary**: ThirdEye Data provides outsourced Scala developers to build a superstructure on top of an end-client's Spark and AWS solution. After delivering 60,000 lines of code, the project moved into a second phase.

**Review Rating**: 4.5
- Quality: 4.5

Director of Product Engineering, Data.World
- Industry: Other industries

- Client size: 51-200 Employees
- Review Type: Phone Interview
- Verified

**The Review** — Jul 14, 2022

**Feedback Summary**: Delivering resources with impressive hard and soft skills, ThirdEye Data accurately identifies and follows-through on their clients' needs. Their pricing and overhead transparency stand out, as does their ability to meet deadlines. Customers can expect an attentive and fit-for-purpose partner.
""Their work led me to re-up our contract and add another individual for this second, ongoing phase of the project.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m a director of product engineering for a data company. I have a group with a number of core permanent engineers, but we’ve also utilized a variable cloud of personnel and contract services over the course of our current project.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with ThirdEye Data?

Our customer is a very large advertising agency, and we’d built a system for them that was designed to process billions of input records and convert those into models of consumers. Our engineer and CTO had built the basic framework for this system on Scala in Spark on the AWS cloud. Our customer then wanted to build some superstructure on top of that.

Rather than building up permanent staff specifically for this customer’s needs, I leveraged contract resources of various kinds to complement our abilities.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

We needed a lot of competent programmers who could produce Scala code with the framework we’d built in a professional and disciplined way. We delivered around 60,000 lines of Scala code for this project. Most of that happened between 2021 and Q1 of 2022.

I reached out to DJ (Founder & CEO) at the start of the process and outlined the requirements for the kinds of individuals that we needed. They supplied two resources in somewhat different capacities. We rolled off people from that effort in March, but we began a second phase, and Third Eye provided another engineer with a slightly different skill set to support this phase as well.

What is the team composition?

I’m working with three engineers for this project. The exact makeup has changed as the project has evolved, however.

How did you come to work with ThirdEye Data?

I’d personally worked with DJ a number of years ago at a previous company and had a positive experience with them. I’ve worked with 5–6 other vendors over the course of the past year, and ThirdEye’s resources have worked well with these other outside contractors. They also possessed the hard-to-fit technical chops that I required for this project.

We’ve been working together on this project since June 2021.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We had to make sure that their level of engineering quality met a certain level; they couldn’t just throw warm bodies in our seats. They met this level of professional maturity, as well as the extensive deadlines we set. We all worked together with our other vendors as a team of around 14 to successfully deliver this project. Their work led me to re-up our contract and add another individual for this second, ongoing phase of the project.

How did ThirdEye Data perform from a project management standpoint?

I’ve also been able to describe very particular skillset profiles, including both hard and soft skills, and ThirdEye has been able to deliver on those needs. They’re much better than other agencies in this regard, which helps us avoid spending money on interviewing candidates that ultimately aren’t good fits.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re very easy to work with. DJ is particularly accommodating. They’re also highly transparent in their pricing and overhead; I don’t have to go through complicated negotiations with them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It’s very clear what they have and what you’ll get.

**The Review** — Jan 29, 2021

**Feedback Summary**: What started as a smaller, nimble engagement quickly grew into a complex project. Regardless, ThirdEye Data managed to complete the project in just over a year. They bent over backward to solve technical challenges, often racing to see which team could come up with the best viable solution.
"“ThirdEye Data was always willing to go above and beyond the initial ask.”
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CTO at a value-added resale company that also has a product development division, an innovation division, a cybersecurity division, and a lab. We primarily support various government agencies along with other commercial customers across the US.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with ThirdEye Data?

We faced a very complex problem around providing cybersecurity support for healthcare organizations. We couldn’t find any products that could solve those issues, so we thought to spin up an engineering organization that would help us meet those requirements — either by building our own product or identifying technology that could solve our needs.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

ThirdEye Data assigned several engineers to augment our existing team as we developed our cybersecurity product. They were responsible for building our core microservices-based platform along with most of the polyglot storage systems. These systems were essentially built for purpose, meaning that instead of using a monolithic data store, we leveraged data stores based on the requirement or use case being deployed.

We kept the solution decoupled and have made sure that the solution was cloud-agnostic so that it could run on basically any cloud platform. Our work is predominantly based on Java.

What is the team composition?

Over the last two years, the team has grown to about 15–20 people in different capacities. There were two data scientists, 10–12 full stack developers, and experts for various technologies that we wanted to leverage. The product manager runs all of our scrums, and there’s a documentation specialist, as well.

The team scales up depending on our needs. For example, we’ve recently gotten more into data analysis and management. They’ve made it easy for us to add on additional resources with the right expertise and seniority.

How did you come to work with ThirdEye Data?

After a lot of research, we reached out to numerous teams within the US. We then narrowed down the list of candidates based on the agency's understanding of our technical problem and if they had the right domain skills to solve it.

ThirdEye Data had a broad range of skills at the price point that we were looking for. They were readily available, too. We knew we wanted to start small and nimble so as not to blow up our budget, but we also wanted to have access to their senior team members as our relationship grew. Their team was willing to provide both the tech skills and a depth of expertise to the table that matched the goals on hand.

Finally, I was excited to see that they had past experience in many similar projects. They’d demonstrated some projects from Microsoft worked on a lot of international projects. That allowed us to get good references from their past customers.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them between January 2018–August 2019. We knew that we wanted to eventually keep the development in-house because our product would be reviewed by a lot of government and civilian agencies. We hired more in-house developers, and they transferred over the development to us. Now, we only leverage ThirdEye Data when needed.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We were running at breakneck speed. Actually, our scope changed from one thing to five add-ons as we went through our prototyping phase. As soon as that first phase ended, we used the product as a foundation for additional use cases. The final result was getting five core components built onto our platform at a fairly fast pace. Our target was 12 months, and we ended up completing the platform in 13–14 months. That’s a great success measure of success.

I’d also commend their innovative thinking around some of our core processes (e.g., automation, JavaScript components, frontend development). Toward the latter part of the project, I was really impressed with their machine learning and AI algorithms. The situation really required a lot of back-and-forth to get deep insights — it wasn’t even a coding problem at that point.

How did ThirdEye Data perform from a project management standpoint?

We could’ve done a better job managing the project. With the scope increasing, it became difficult to manage the multiple streams of work. They didn’t end up adding on more project managers, but we should’ve hired another manager internally to better manage expectations. That would’ve helped us keep track of dependent teams and control the cost.

As for our tools, we used Aha! to prioritize our road map and set up our sprints. We leveraged Atlassian Suite to manage our code, Jira tickets, and automation.

What did you find most impressive about them?

ThirdEye Data was always willing to go above and beyond the initial ask. Whenever we struggled with anything, their team would do a lot of research and come up with their own thought process. They’d actually break up into two camps to test out ideas: one camp would try one approach while the other tried something else. They were very excited about this “horse race” so to speak, which showed that they were really invested in what we were trying to do.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Collectively, we should’ve taken a step back and spent some time thinking about how to manage our project more effectively. It started off fairly nimble, but things got complicated once we got into tens of thousands of lines of code. That might be something that we look at more internally.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Have a candid thought leadership conversation with their team. They’re not a headhunting company that fills seats; these are people who bring a lot of domain expertise to the table. Their team understands business and technology principles just as much as they understand your goals and desired outcomes.

Beyond that, if you plan to own the code, then you have to own the knowledge as well. Knowledge sharing needs to be baked into the process. That’s why having those high-level conversations with ThirdEye Data made the end product that much better.

**The Review** — Jan 7, 2021

**Feedback Summary**: ThirdEye Data did not meet the business' expectations, failing to complete the project as requested. The work they did was unsatisfactory, and they were unable to resolve issues that arose. Although their engineers were individually strong, the team as a whole wasn't reliable. This review includes the vendor's response.
""I never got what I paid for."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CEO of a software company for monitoring solutions.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with ThirdEye Data?

We wanted to build an AI or machine learning module for our product in order to analyze the data we were collecting. We wanted to use this module to detect anomalies and carry out predictive analysis based on the outcomes of the model.

We have a monitoring platform where we collect data from endpoints and technologies to measure performance, availability, and SLA. We are alerted when something is wrong or there are issues with any elements in the technology stack.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

ThirdEye Data began to define and build a layer of the AI or machine learning-based analytics to take care of all the integration with the product. Instead of defining thresholds, the model would automatically learn the normal behavior and would be able to indicate when something was abnormal.

What is the team composition?

There were 4–5 people, including a project manager.

How did you come to work with ThirdEye Data?

We were introduced to them through one of our investors who used to work with them.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them from October 2018–December 2020.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We had two projects. The first project was not successful. We gave it another chance. The second project was supposed to end in October or November 2020, but at some point, we came to the conclusion that they wouldn’t be able to deliver what we were looking for. The project was never completed, at least not to our satisfaction.

They did some work in some aspects but there were lots of things that weren’t completed as we defined in the scope of work for the project. I never got what I paid for. There were deliverables, but they didn’t comply with what was agreed upon from the start.

The first project was in 2018, and it ended after a few months. It wasn’t even usable. It was our first AI project, so we didn’t have lots of knowledge or experience. We hoped that they’d be able to do it, but we didn’t get anything from them for almost a year.

In 2020, we engaged them again around April, but this time, we tried to be very accurate with the statement of work (SOW) and the objectives of the project. We gave very clear and specific use cases. We had too much back and forth about the same issues that we were facing.

How was project management handled?

At some point, their project manager left and they replaced him. They continued to try to resolve the issues we had, but we kept having the same issues. They just didn’t know how to solve them.

ThirdEye Data said they wouldn’t take responsibility for the project even though they were responsible for it. We had planned a third phase, but they said they didn’t want to continue.

We communicated with the owner, and they had access to our Jira and our systems. They became part of our R&D in some ways. They were responsive when we needed them, but the results weren’t good.

Is there anything that the vendor did well or that you would consider a strength?

They have great engineers, but the owner doesn’t take responsibility for the commitment. Individually, they have good people. When you’re employed by someone who is telling you that you need to do something in 20 hours, but you need 80 hours, obviously, the delivery isn’t going to be good.

Are there any areas they could improve?

When they get into a project, they need to know that they for sure can complete it. If they need more time and more people, they should take responsibility and do it rather than terminate a project in the middle and leave the customer stuck with something that’s not fully done.

Now that we’re trying to fix what they did, I know that they made some incredibly wrong decisions in their design and way of doing things.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I wouldn’t recommend anyone to work with them. I was very disappointed. The biggest problem was that they didn’t take responsibility, and once we paid them, that was it. If you're going to work with them, make a very clear SOW, and don’t pay anything before you get the work.

**Company Response**
The vendor responded on January 11, 2021.

This review is not an honest and fair review of the work that ThirdEye has done for this client in the last 2+ years, The project deliverables, the final outcomes, the value generated is proved by the fact that the AIOps platform that ThirdEye developed for the client is broadly marketed on their website and all marketing communications. ThirdEye took a business idea and converted it into a commercially sold product.

The client's CEO acted with malicious intent because we declined to work with him further into Phase 4 due to the acrimonious environment he personally created during these phases of the project.

I have proof in emails exchanged between us and other project-related documents where the CEO has praised the work done to date. He appreciated the outcomes so much that he wanted to quickly start the next phase.

The root of this vitriolic vendor-client relationship is the fact that the CEO simply does not understands that:

AI projects are not like regular software development projects where tasks are done in a waterfall model. AI projects are iterative by nature as the AI models need training and analysis in an iterative manner.
Fixed bid projects are not just fixed by the project amount but also by the time and resources allocated.
I challenge the client to conduct a technical review of our work by a neutral third-party technical reviewer. If our work is found to be sub-standard or it is ascertained that we took wrong technical decisions, I am willing to REFUND the full project amount to the client.

**The Review** — Dec 28, 2020

**Feedback Summary**: Delivering about 3,000 audio recordings that met the client's specifications, ThirdEye data performed well in the partnership. They developed an understanding of the project's requirements quickly and even built their own project management tool to better fit the engagement's nuances.
"“They were always willing to adapt strategy and the contract to make sure we were happy at the end of the day.”
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

We’re developing an AR technology for use in the retail space. I’m a market analyst, focusing on the latest technology in AR head-mounted displays.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with ThirdEye Data?

They were helping us collecting a large amount of voice audio data for us to train an AI program to develop voice activation and voice-related features for the program. We didn’t have the resources in-house to collect audio data from a large number of voices, so we called on them.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

First, we met to talk about the requirements for the participants in the data set. We needed a wide variety of voices, in terms of age and ethnicity. After developing an understanding of our needs for the data set, they set up a website with a recording system that allowed for participants to sign up.

They took charge of vetting candidates to make sure they were of the correct age range and ethnicities we specified. If selected, the participant could then record the script on their own.

The team would check the audio for quality and share the files with our team. We’d offer feedback, and our teams would work together until the audio files met our standard for quality and content. Once the files were acceptable, they saved all relevant data and shipped it to us.

What is the team composition?

Early on, there were about 6–8 teammates on the project. Later, we were able to automate some tasks, so the team was reduced to 3–4 people.

How did you come to work with ThirdEye Data?

We found them on Clutch and selected them based on the information we found there.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent about $24,000 on their work.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project lasted from June–December 2020. While we finished up this project, we plan on engaging them for similar work in the near future.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They were able to deliver about 3,000 audio recordings, and the audio generally was what we were looking for. It took a few iterative cycles to work out some issues with some of the audio files, but they were quick to respond and correct all problems. It wasn’t a perfect journey, but they did a great of making sure we were happy at the end of the day. Our company was scaling rapidly at this time as well, so there could’ve been some miscommunications on our part.

How did ThirdEye Data perform from a project management standpoint?

They developed their own project management system through a website service. We started using a mixture of Google tools and Confluence, but that ended up not being sufficient for our project. In response, they created their own website management service where we could manage the entire project and deliverables. They built that from scratch.

We communicated through weekly calls with the CEO and key players, where I received information on progress and got answers to my questions.

What did you find most impressive about them?

This was a fast-paced project, and they were always willing to adapt strategy and the contract to make sure we were happy at the end of the day. It was a very productive and healthy engagement.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They had some employee churn, and newly-onboarded employees took some time to ramp up to speed. This meant that some tasks weren’t completed on schedule and the quality of some work was sub-standard. Whenever we noticed this, they were prompt about correcting the issue.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They’re willing to communicate regularly and often, which really helped the project be successful.

""Their work made team members more aware of the importance of data and how it can make a difference for our company."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am the CTO of the Brave Thinking Institute. We do personal development coach training, and also advise on how to improve one’s business and life.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with ThirdEye Data?

We wanted to create analysis reporting for our company.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

We wanted to create a way to synthesize data so that we could calculate the profitability of each event we host. They put together a complete overview of what resources we would need, timelines, systems, and other things so that we could implement the system.

This was part of the first phase of their work. We used this information to decide our budgets for the coming year. Because of COVID-19, we haven’t been able to pursue actual implementation.

What is the team composition?

Aparajeeta (Co-Founder & Chief Delivery Officer) was our main contact. She had a larger team supporting her. Most of the direct interaction was with her, but we also had conversations with Dj (Founder & CEO) during the process.

How did you come to work with ThirdEye Data?

One of my team members found ThirdEye through an online search, I believe. We narrowed it down to two or three companies, but ThirdEye was the only one able to give us the confidence that they really could do this. They really understood what we were trying to achieve.

How much have you invested in them?

We spent around $25,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in September 2019, and we put the project on pause in March 2020.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Their work made team members more aware of the importance of data and how it can make a difference for our company. We saw a shift in the culture of the company, and of people being more aware of keeping track of data and reporting on data.

How did ThirdEye Data perform from a project management standpoint?

They did really well. They kept pushing it forward and they were very aware of our deadline. They were good at making contact with us and our company is very good at that well, so it was really the meeting of two minds and it really went well.

We are 100% a virtual company. Now we have 75 staff members, and they are all working virtually. Therefore, we had all of our meetings via Zoom. We used Basecamp and Microsoft Teams which they provided.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They understand data and have the ability to understand how we use data. They were able to understand that getting the data out of the system was just the first stage. It is a very important stage, but it is what comes after that, that is really important.

Other companies we spoke to were focused on data but not necessarily on what comes after, or were talking about what comes after but didn’t reassure us when it came to the data itself. With ThirdEye, I felt we got the whole package.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t think so. All the way through we had a really iterative process. If we misunderstood each other, there were a couple of conversations where everything was resolved, and we moved forward. There were no issues at all. We were brilliant in sorting out issues. It is one of the smoother projects I have worked on.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Really listen to what ThirdEye has to say. Where the majority of people miss out is that they don’t understand the linkage between what data is and how you interpret the data and what you can use it for, and I think that is one of the aspects where I think ThirdEye really shines.

Their team is flexible and makes themselves available for communication. Their entrepreneurial spirit is a hallmark of their work.
"“They were aligned with the objectives of our company.”
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the IT portfolio manager for a privately-held supply company. We distribute and process tubular goods for the oil and gas industries.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with ThirdEye Data?

We needed help with data development and management for our company.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

ThirdEye Data set up an analytics platform to create a digital replica of our organization which includes IT. This was in order to bring visibility to our current performance levels for all functions. They helped us set up the data and pipelines. In addition to that, they created at least one or two end-to-end use cases. This is so people can see the value and get excited about what’s possible on this new platform.

We’re keeping ourselves primarily limited to Microsoft Azure. Our teams worked together to complete this project. The backend pipeline set was completely theirs, but for areas where they needed business input, we worked together.

What is the team composition?

I worked directly with 7–8 people.

How did you come to work with ThirdEye Data?

We discovered them through word of mouth. My friend knew of ThirdEye Data, and I did some exploring. I spoke to the owner, and we brought them to our office in the evaluation phase. They were aligned with the objectives of our company. It looked to me that they understood business outcomes are important for the success of the project. What’s more, they had more commitment to it than others.

We still have to be outcome-oriented, and that was one of the major differences — that they were committed to the business outcomes. ThirdEye Data is not a very large company, which was important for us. They’re based in Silicon Valley and possess more entrepreneur flavor in their operations. Those were some important factors in choosing them.

How much have you invested in them?

We’ve spent between $200,000–$1,000,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with them in September 2019, and the work is still ongoing. We’re now stabilizing and expanding the platform.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

My company has been able to avoid some costs by creating this solution. We gauge the success of the project by understanding the business outcomes which we’ve received. So far, those have been positive overall.

How did ThirdEye Data perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve been good at scheduling and meeting deadlines.

What did you find most impressive about them?

ThirdEye Data has been able to understand that this is a great platform to build on. Business leaders have also understood the value, and are the ones we need to drive forward.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There could’ve been an improvement in the consistency of the work process to better align with the objectives; Especially with what we did in those initial few months. Partners in organizations put in different resources and come out with different skillsets. It’d be helpful if ThirdEye Data understood our business better. It’s a big challenge though. If the people who are doing the execution understand the business better, we could minimize communication problems.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Engage and be upfront with ThirdEyeData in the early phases and work on syncing your minds. They’re usually available in our time zone and are flexible. Try to engage with them at a team level and remove communication barriers if possible.

**Feedback Summary**: The new data lake has centralized information storage, making silos obsolete and allowing the internal team to quickly analyze data. ThirdEye Data drew from their strong technical knowledge to select the ideal tech stack. Clear communication facilitated a smooth workflow.
"ThirdEye Data was able to get inside our tech environment and set up the data lake fairly quickly.”
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the manager of enterprise data services for a media company.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with ThirdEye Data?

We initially had a SQL server business intelligence (BI) stack but found that we needed an enterprise data lake. After identifying the gaps in our team’s capabilities, we brought on ThirdEye Data to help us configure the data lake.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

We decided to leverage AWS as a data lake. Because we wanted to have a persistent cluster for computing, we started with Apache Spark and hybrid technology. The initial implementation included adjusting our data from various silos and databases into one central place.

What is the team composition?

They had a project manager and an architect on-site as well as 6–8 resources offshore.

How did you come to work with ThirdEye Data?

I’d worked with them while at my previous job, and they’re well-known in the big data space.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent about $100,000–$250,000 thus far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in April 2017, and the work is ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

ThirdEye Data was able to get inside our tech environment and set up the data lake fairly quickly. The new enterprise data lake eliminates silos by centralizing our information, which has improved our data analysts’ productivity and reduced analysis time from months to weeks to sometimes days.

How did ThirdEye Data perform from a project management standpoint?

I’m very happy with their communication. If they encounter issues or foresee any issues, they bring them up ahead of time. We use a Scrum methodology.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Not only do they know which technology to leverage, but they also understand the strengths and weakness of the technology landscape and can manage change.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Their niche is Apache Hadoop-based enterprise data lakes, so if they can improve their skills as a company in cloud data warehouses, they would be able to build even better solutions.

VP of Technology, Cannabis Technology Firm
- Industry: Other industries

- Client size: 1-10 Employees
- Review Type: Phone Interview
- Verified

**The Review** — Mar 6, 2019

**Feedback Summary**: This pilot project served for recognizing the amounts of data required for future machine learning ventures, though several parts of the tech they developed were deployed in the current software offering. Easy communication, thorough documentation, and speed of delivery are highlights of their work.
""Furthermore, the quality of their work was terrific."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the VP of technology at a company that manufactures hardware and software related to medical cannabis use. We have software that’s designed to help people manage chronic pain.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with ThirdEye Data?

We had a machine learning project that we wanted to get going to see if we could use it as a basis for some of the later machine learning projects that we’d like to do as part of our software platform offering.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Part of what our software does is helping chronic pain sufferers to input their current medications. Since medication names are often difficult, we wanted to skip that process of typing out the name. We wanted to help users automatically determine what kind of medication and dosage they’re using based on a photograph of their medication, which is uploaded to our servers. Then, we’d come back with an informed guess for what that medication is.

We knew the project would involve machine learning. ThirdEye Data put together a proposal that suggested a couple of different approaches, and we narrowed it down to one of them. We decided to go with TensorFlow, along with some optical character recognition (OCR) libraries and some Fuzzy Matching strips behind the scenes that could take an approximation of what someone had typed or from a photograph of an actual pharmaceutical label.

Sometimes the OCR isn’t 100% perfect, and so the Fuzzy Matching lets us take something that had either been typed or had been taken from an image and cross checks it against our list of 5,000 known medications for pain.

We’re currently working with them on a different project.

What is the team composition?

There were six or seven team members involved, including a project manager.

How did you come to work with ThirdEye Data?

I wasn’t involved in selecting ThirdEye Data. We had a couple of conversations, and they walked us through some of the projects that they had done in the past that were similar to what we were looking to do. They put together a proposal for us, and we decided to go ahead with that pilot project.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $25,000 for this project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in February 2018, and the work lasted a month.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

One of the main outcomes of this project is that we realized the large amounts of data that we would need to successfully run future machine learning projects. There’s a public pill dataset composed of images, and ThirdEye Data did a great job of multiplying those images to do the machine learning training.

To productize something like that, we would need many more images. In terms of our direction, the project let us know what we would need to do to make something like that successful in a consumer-facing product.

However, we’ve taken pieces of the technology they developed and deployed it into our product, especially the Fuzzy Matching stuff that they did.

How did ThirdEye Data perform from a project management standpoint?

We had weekly or biweekly meetings to run through the project’s status. Their communication was fantastic, and documentation and the code delivery were top notch. We were able to selectively take parts of what they had done and deploy it with other teams without any issues.

Furthermore, the quality of their work was terrific. Any time there were any issues or new lessons that had come out of what they’d done, we could easily recalibrate what we were doing.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The speed at which they completed the work was impressive, and their cost was good in terms of value.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I can't name anything.

**The Review** — Jul 20, 2018

**Feedback Summary**: Despite the ThirdEye team being dispersed around the globe, they were engaged, communicative, and quickly responded to bugs with effective fixes. The scheduling tool they created has enabled successful scheduling for separate projects.
""They were engaged in working with us to find a solution, and I was impressed by the quality of their deliverables."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am a product manager at Innova Systems. We focus on applications for the Department of Defense, primarily for the Navy. We have five products that support squadron readiness, aircrew readiness, aircraft carrier personnel readiness, and a learning management system that supports the aviation squadrons and their tactical postgraduate training.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with ThirdEye Data?

We needed to develop a scheduling and deployment tool that was easy to modify to roll out a new version of our application to aviation squadrons.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

We were updating an application called Sharp to its newest version, which has a dramatic change in the architecture, technology stack, and functionality, and needed a scheduling tool. Based on deployment schedules of squadrons and timing of their readiness schedules, we knew that we would have to spread the deployment out to over 200 units across a roughly 12–18 month period.

We had to take into account each squadrons' readiness profiles, which is a cyclical process of getting ready for deployment, deploying, remaining in the search capability, resting for a while, and then repeating the whole thing. Where they are in this cycle either makes the squadron easily attainable or means that we have to hold the deployment until they’re past the critical phases deployments and search periods.

We also had to take into account where the squadrons were located. While some of them are in high concentration areas, about a quarter of the units are geographically dispersed overseas or around the country.

We went to ThirdEye with this information and asked how they would build the schedule and scheduling tool. The tool they built enables us to modify the inputs to the scheduling tool based on travel arrangements and squadron accessibility and readiness.

What is the team composition?

At its peak, we had a team of five or six people dispersed through the U.S. and India. We worked most frequently with our project manager but had at least weekly communication with the whole team.

How did you come to work with ThirdEye Data?

We were working with a third party on several initiatives, including the scheduling and deployment. That company worked closely with ThirdEye and offered their services to evaluate possibilities and ultimately build the scheduling tool.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from September 2017 through December 2017.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The project was so focused that it didn’t have a company-wide impact; there weren’t any metrics that we were tracking. However, we have modified the tool for separate efforts and it has helped increase our efficiency in scheduling and deployments.

There were some bugs in the initial product, but once we identified them, the owner immediately took the product back. They worked on it in their own time, and a few weeks later they delivered a better product.

How did ThirdEye Data perform from a project management standpoint?

They were very engaged. I spoke with the project manager once or twice a week on top of our weekly team meetings. We coordinated convenient times for the entire team to get together, and they had very active participation.

With as geographically dispersed as the team was, they were extremely accommodating of my time and the time difference. For example, if we were to have meetings at 9:00 am our time, the team members in India would be speaking with us at what was midnight for them. They were incredibly responsive.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Since this was a unique project, we don’t have experience with other firms similar to ThirdEye so I can’t compare them in that way. However, I will say that they were engaged in working with us to find a solution, and I was impressed by the quality of their deliverables.

Are there any areas they could improve?

About halfway through the project, we had to significantly shift the project’s direction. I definitely carry some of that responsibility because I think I could have done a better job clarifying the requirements. However, I think the situation could have been improved if they had thoroughly documented and reviewed the requirements on their end to make sure that everybody understood what was intended.

**Feedback Summary**: The application was created as a proof of concept in order to test the technology, producing solid results and leading to plans to scale it up. The team responded well to changing technology needs, incorporating Python as required, while always keeping on top of the project's weekly progress.
""They have the ability to come up with additional solutions."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

We’re a multi-lateral bank. Our primary function is to lend money to governments to implement projects both on social and infrastructure projects. I’m responsible for a group who manages innovation and supports the VP sectors within the institution.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with ThirdEye Data?

We invest in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning and had an internal project that required us to analyze and find experts within the institution. We were using AI to search the information based on the curriculum of the employees, the type of work they had done in the past, and papers that have been published in order to identify specific skillsets that we need for some project engagements.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

A lot of our staff implement projects in their regions, meaning there's a lot of documentation regarding what they’ve done as well as information on our website. One of the challenges, when we were looking to start a new project, was to find people that have done a project like this in the past. ThirdEye searched and crawled those different project completion reports to find that information, using IBM technology. They used the Watson technology and Web Explorer, for instance, for the search capability.

They crawled this information and apply some of the methodologies, ontologies, metadata, and natural language to understand what the documents were all about. All those components gave us a rating in terms of the team leads and its ability to successfully commit the projects.

They then created a frontend application that allows to search for people using natural language. You can identify someone who has worked in a specific country, in a specific sector, with X amount of years’ experience. It identifies very specific things, which is where the natural language, the machine learning, and the AI came into place.

What is the team composition?

They had a team of five. There’s a data architect, the project manager, and people that were specialized in machine learning and data modeling.

How did you come to work with ThirdEye Data?

We found them through IBM as we use a lot of IBM technology here at the bank. ThirdEye also partners directly with them.

How much have you invested with them?

$40,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from October 2015 until January 2016.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Before we actually implemented or acquired the tools that are required, we decided to do a proof of concept with them to test the technology. That was very successful because we were really able to see the results.

They had to do some Python coding as well as use IBM technologies, in order to complement the solution. That was an element of surprise and a good learning experience. We knew that the technology wasn’t fully ready to do what we wanted it to do, but they found a solution by incorporating some extra code.

As a result of that, we're scaling up now with more funding for the project. We have been approved for this year to scale up. We’re going to incorporate additional sources of information to have more robust and better results in terms of how to identify some talents, specialists, and expertise within the institution.

How did ThirdEye Data perform from a project management standpoint?

They provided us with a full technical architecture to show all the components and how they would interconnect or interact. We had weekly check-ins to review the progress and adjusting some things.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have the ability to come up with additional solutions. They’re not just focused on one technology stack, but are very well versed in other technologies. They were very familiar with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Cloud, and IBM Cloud. They had the expertise and developers that could jump in with Python and Java.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It’d be helpful if they had somebody local to us. However, the fact they weren't did not impact the project. The cost of travel increases the cost, but other than that, they did a fabulous job.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

It’s important to have a very experienced project manager as that made a lot of difference. We engaged directly with the owner of the company and he was very interested because of the type of institution that we are. I’m not saying we wouldn’t have had the same success had he not been involved, but he was very experienced and knew the different types of technology. If you could engage him in any project, that will be helpful.

""They are on the cutting edge of technology."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm the CEO of an AI and analytics products and services company.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with ThirdEye Data?

We were developing our AI platform and needed to figure out how to design and build the data stack for that.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed the platform from scratch. We worked on Google Cloud and used some Microsoft data technologies which they were very knowledgeable about. They were able to bring in help when it was needed. We were not only working with them, but receiving a lot of support from those partners as well.

What is the team composition?

There was a project manager, but I'm unsure of the size of the team on their end.

How did you come to work with ThirdEye Data?

We were referred to them. After speaking to them, we really liked that they were working on the cutting edge of all the technologies we wanted to look at.

How much have you invested in them?

We spent between $200,000–$300,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them between March and September in 2015.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The platform that they helped us build has now been implemented at a number of Fortune 2000 companies. As part of the implementation, we go through very thorough technology reviews with these companies and always hear very good things regarding the architecture, the technology, and the design.

How did ThirdEye Data perform from a project management standpoint?

They performed well—I haven’t heard any issues and no one has come back and complained about anything. We're on a Google platform and we used all the Google tools.

What did you find most impressive about them?

There were two things that distinguished them. Their founder was very good at understanding what we needed to do and then translating that, from a technology perspective, into what needed to get done. I found that to be outstanding and of the reasons we worked with them. I also liked their flexible working style as they fit into how we work.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They should be out there talking to people more. They do very good work, but they should be doing more of that.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They are on the cutting edge of technology. If you need a solution, particularly if you don't have any ideas, they're a fantastic partner to have.

**Feedback Summary**: ThirdEye Data’s cutting-edge product teaches users how to migrate solutions to the cloud, implement devices, and use AI to ultimately create real data pipelines. The team’s expert development skills, extensive industry knowledge base, and diligent work ethic yielded a flawless end deliverable.
"“ThirdEye Data’s high-level technical experience is a key differentiator from comparable agencies.”
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I work as a senior category manager at a software marketplace. We sell enterprise software as a part of a larger enterprise store or digital channel. My responsibilities include developing go-to markets for the top third-party products sold through our company.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with ThirdEye Data?

We hired ThirdEye Data to develop our latest customer-ready solution. As part of the go-to-market process, we produce content for various stages of the customer journey. We wanted to build a solution that provides users with opportunities to gain experience implementing solutions via our marketplace. Our solution teaches clients in similar situations how to migrate to the cloud, implement devices, and use machine learning to create what we term a “real data pipeline.”

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

A critical part of our workflow involves combining multiple marketplace solutions. For our engagement with ThirdEye Data, we used a storage solution from SoftNet and a TIBCO Spotfire analytical R server. To locate movement between on-premises and cloud, the team used AppUnity. Our open-source product is MySQL, and data is warehoused in the cloud via Amazon Redshift. The team used a Kony mobile application development product and secured the entire solution with Trend Micro Deep Security.

Rather than the programming languages in use, we focused on integrating multiple solutions and connecting the dots. Instead of using a single product for each discrete task, we used a combination of tools to build a real data pipeline. This task aimed to enable the organization to act upon external factors like public data sets, in this case. ThirdEye Data was also responsible for coordinating our combined solutions with different providers.

What is the team composition?

I’ve interacted directly with ThirdEye Data’s executive leadership. Early on in the cycle, a dedicated project manager became our main point of contact. They assigned us at least two developers and a documentation and manual writing specialist.

How did you come to work with ThirdEye Data?

I’d worked with ThirdEye data previously while I was with a different company. One of my employees there had found them during that time. Although I’d held a different position there, it had still been related to product management.

For this project, we hoped to expand areas of our business that we’d already been working on. My background is focused on big data. When the time came to produce this new solution, ThirdEye immediately came to mind. I hired them to partner with my current company.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around $100,000–$200,000 on ThirdEye Data’s services.

What is the status of this engagement?

This project ran between July–December 2016. Building the entire solution took approximately 5-6 months.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’re just starting the campaigns ThirdEye Data helped us build products for this month, so I don’t have metrics to share yet. Our internal company stakeholders have expressed interest in extending this solution to other categories. Users who have tried it so far are happy with how it works. The architects who’ve reviewed it affirmed that it provided many useful details and had been created at the right level.

Essentially, our new product has become a call-to-action for a few of our campaigns at specific customer interaction stages. At this point, we’ve published the solution ThirdEye Data helped us build on our website and presented it at an annual conference. I tried to embed our new product into existing portals that promote comparable solutions, but it’s so sophisticated that those systems couldn’t accommodate it. Instead, I created independent placeholders that could adequately map to previous work we’d done. We’re currently planning additional delivery mechanisms.

How did ThirdEye Data perform from a project management standpoint?

I was impressed by how well the team communicated with us throughout our engagement. They offered a notable level of availability, as well. The team is very agile and rapidly formulated useful ideas. Whenever we made requests, they quickly internalized our feedback to provide the best workable solution. We’ve had a good experience working with ThirdEye Data.

What did you find most impressive about them?

ThirdEye Data has demonstrably learned a great deal throughout their tenure as a development agency. They’ve has aggregated a substantial knowledge base from their numerous past projects. I most appreciated their expertise pertinent to building real data pipelines and creating chatbots. They’ve deftly narrowed their focus to certain technology spaces. In line with my preferences, they’d already completed comparable projects, rather this being their first endeavor of its kind.

ThirdEye Data’s high-level technical experience is a key differentiator from comparable agencies. Furthermore, this factor was also a critical reason I couldn’t have hired any other vendor. Had I done so, I would’ve had to validate that said team had successfully completed multiple client implementations. It was easy to affirm ThirdEye Data’s value proposition for our company in terms of solutions and documentation.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Since I had a very open dialogue with ThirdEye Data, I felt comfortable requesting a more complex technical writing approach. Their solution was fantastic and their documentation was thorough, but I had specific marketing goals in mind that required improved content.

Per my recommendation, they hired external technical writers to revamp that material. This observation is most relevant for future clients who plan to use ThirdEye Data’s assets for technical marketing content. It may not be required for a standard technical implementation.
