After working with Zaengle on a previous project, Relias hired Zaengle to migrate Nurse.com to Craft CMS to meet a fixed launch date. The project included implementing new designs that we developed in-house, automated content migration from WordPress to Craft for nearly 2,000 blog posts, meeting accessibility standards, and assisting our in-house development team with the Vue.js portion of our web app rebuild, which ran in parallel with the Craft CMS project. After launch, we engaged with Zaengle to provide ongoing feature development and maintenance support.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We successfully met our original launch deadline, which was critical to aligning with a broader marketing timeline. The automated migration of nearly 2,000 blog posts from WordPress to Craft CMS was completed with high fidelity and minimal post-launch issues. Since launch, we’ve worked closely with our marketing team to refine their admin workflows, and we’ve seen a noticeable improvement in their reported user experience as well as a measurable decrease in the number of support requests and frustrations related to content management.

Zaengle’s project management has been outstanding. Their Director of Operations, Patrick, has acted as both project and product manager, participating in all of our standups and refinement sessions. He works closely with our internal PM, QA team, and developers to clarify requirements and ensure timely—and often early—delivery of features that meet our standards. Communication has been seamless; they’re incredibly responsive on Slack and always willing to jump on a Teams call when needed. Their collaborative approach has made them feel like a true extension of our internal team.

What stands out most is their honesty and calm professionalism—they offer candid recommendations without being pushy and surface potential issues without drama. Over time, they’ve become more than just a vendor; we see them as part of our team and genuinely enjoy collaborating with them.

Zaengle has given us invaluable guidance and very timely support on the regular maintenance and updates/upgrades for our website. They have consistently been wonderful to work with--very knowledgeable, accessible, and responsive. Additionally, they are good at helping our not-very-tech-savvy staff understand what projects are needed and when, and they always look into any issues that crop up immediately, even if issues are with third-party software. Beyond those benefits, their staff has been wonderful to work with--friendly and smart. They have also figured out many creative ways to make needed site updates and implement projects happen while still fitting within our budget limitations. We are very happy to work with them and highly recommend them!

What was the scope of their involvement?

Zaengle helped us design and build a custom SaaS platform from the ground up. Our goal was to create a scalable, secure system tailored to nonprofits and first responder organizations — one that could handle everything from member management and invoicing to complex data reconciliation and permissions-based dashboards. We needed a partner who could not only execute technically but also help us think through long-term architectural decisions, user experience, and future-proofing the platform as we scaled. Zaengle played a core role in turning that vision into reality.

Zaengle handled full-stack development for our custom SaaS platform over the course of three years. The scope of work included backend architecture, frontend development, API integrations, and ongoing feature enhancements. Over the course of the project, we worked with a core team of 3–5 people from Zaengle at any given time. We found Zaengle through a referral. Our team was looking for a highly capable and trustworthy development partner for a long-term, custom software project. A trusted colleague in the nonprofit tech space had worked with Zaengle and spoke very highly of their technical expertise and integrity, which led us to initiate a conversation. After the initial call, we were confident they would be a great fit — and that turned out to be absolutely true over the three years we worked together.

We started working with Zaengle in 2018, and our collaboration continued for several years as the platform evolved. The formal contract ended sometime in 2023, after we completed all major milestones and transitioned the product fully in-house.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our work with Zaengle resulted in the successful launch of NEP Connect, our first custom software application built to manage membership for public safety organizations. It was a foundational platform for our company, and measurable outcomes included:

• Launch of a fully operational membership management system used by police and firefighter unions nationwide.
• Digitization of previously manual processes like dues tracking, contact updates, and member records.
• Support for hundreds of organizations and tens of thousands of active and retired members.
• Streamlined admin workflows that significantly reduced time spent on member updates and reporting.
• A secure and scalable infrastructure that gave us a strong foundation to build future SaaS offerings.

How did Zaengle perform from a project management standpoint?

Zaengle’s project management was organized, transparent, and collaborative. They used a sprint-based approach that kept progress steady and made it easy to prioritize changing needs over the course of the project. Communication was always clear, and they were quick to adjust timelines or scope when unexpected challenges came up.

While we did have some shifting timelines — as is often the case with complex, evolving software — they were always upfront about trade-offs and worked closely with us to find the right balance between speed and quality. Overall, they were reliable partners who took ownership of their work and truly cared about delivering a thoughtful, well-built product.

What did you find most impressive about them?

What stood out most about working with Zaengle was their thoughtful, mission-aligned approach to development. They weren’t just coders executing a spec — they genuinely cared about the impact of the product we were building and consistently made recommendations that aligned with our users’ needs and values.

Their team brought a rare mix of technical excellence, design sensibility, and user-centered thinking. They asked smart questions, challenged assumptions when needed, and delivered clean, scalable code we could build on for years. It felt like having a true partner rather than just a vendor.

Are there any areas they could improve?

One area for improvement would be pacing and long-term planning during multi-year development. While Zaengle was always collaborative and communicative, there were times when deeper roadmap alignment or more proactive planning could have helped us avoid some scope drift and last-minute pivots.

That said, they were always open to feedback and quick to adjust when needed. The relationship felt like a true partnership, and any bumps in the road were handled with professionalism and care.

The Scottish Rite, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction is an appendant body of Freemasonry that offers Master Masons a deeper exploration of Masonic teachings through 29 additional degrees, focusing on personal growth, ethics, and service to humanity.

What challenge were you trying to address with Zaengle?

We were seeking a complete update for the next-gen website for the Scottish Rite NMJ.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of work done?

Zaengle reviewed the architecture and build of our previous site. Taking our extensive discussions and features into consideration, we began to collectively establish some key milestones and tasks involving their team, our internal information systems team, and our website team. We maintained this general framework of communication and project management since we first established a working relationship with the Zaengle team.

During discovery, we reviewed the overall site map and how this would interface with our internal member management system. We were also able to discuss many of the content management features that our web team would be able to use to further streamline their day-to-day content entry. Through all of this, we were able to set clear goals and deadlines and stay relatively on track through multiple teams, which really helped make the process as stress-free as possible.

We worked with 4–6 teammates from Zaengle at various stages throughout the project.

How did you come to work with Zaengle?

We found Zaengle during a search for reputable Craft CMS developers. Their team really impressed us; they were personable and knowledgeable. We came to them with some rather large and complex issues, and they were able to address possible solutions as to how we might approach them in the final build.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our latest build started in Fall 2021 and was wrapped up in early 2022.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We ended up with a final build that integrated our member system seamlessly to allow members to access the public-facing part of our site as well as enter the member portal to access and manage their personal profile, payments, activities, and so forth. Members love the ease and simplicity of the site. As had been discussed with the Zaengle team, the website for the Scottish Rite NMJ is extremely large and complex, and members found it easy to navigate and find the relevant content as well as be able to access the member portal easily.

How did Zaengle perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management was excellent. Patrick (Project Manager) has consistently demonstrated top-tier communication and responsiveness and has gone above and beyond throughout the tenure of our relationship with them. Project managers from both teams primarily communicated through a shared Slack channel.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Zaengle has always delivered as promised. We never once had the thought or concern of whether or not something could be accomplished. We knew that their timelines were solid, and they have not let us down.
