We needed an app that our supervisors in the field could use to record time spent on cleaning the highway as well as number of bags of litter and weight cleaned for each segment. We also needed the ability for users to take pictures while performing the cleans. Data and pictures needed to be sent back to our database and sharepoint site.

We are able to deploy new versions of the app ourselves. Improved logging and troubleshooting. Less user complaints.

Evince Development has built three websites for us. When we need their support, we handle the design and copywriting process ourselves and reach out to them to develop the site. We typically have a call to discuss the design requirements in more detail and answer any questions they might have. 

The team has developed a Shopify website for our e-commerce brand. The website enables users to learn about the fertility benefits of our products and purchase items for us to ship to them. They’ve also used Angular to rebuild two informational websites for our Florida and New York clinics. None of our team had access to the technology stack for these sites, and we didn’t have hosting capabilities. 

Users can book appointments through the website and access our services and pricing information. Moreover, the team has helped us develop a CMS using C# and provided speed optimization services for the websites. They’ve also used DigitalOcean and a Cloudflare proxy server.

I found them on Google while searching for Shopify development partners. After reviewing their portfolio and learning more about who they were, I reached out to them. Martin was very organized and prepared during their pitch, so we decided to move forward.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We don’t have metrics for the Shopify website because they built it from the ground up to get us going. The second website just launched last week, so we don’t have any metrics, and the third should launch shortly. 

However, Evince Development has built each site promptly, and we’re satisfied with the quick page-loading speeds. We’ve only encountered one technical issue regarding the Cloudflare proxy server, which the team has resolved quickly. Aside from that, we’ve had no issues.  

How did Evince Development perform from a project management standpoint?

Each project has gone smoothly. Martin is very organized and manages projects effectively. The team is also highly-skilled; they lay out clear steps and follow up to communicate progress. They provide accurate time estimates and are on point concerning deadlines. We had one instance where we extended a deadline by a week due to delays from our internal team, so it wasn’t their fault. 
We typically communicate via Microsoft Teams and email. They also use a Zoho dashboard to track progress, which is very transparent. The team provides weekly updates to show how we’re pacing toward the launch date. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m impressed with their project management process and level of responsiveness. They typically answer emails within 5–10 minutes.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can only think of one area for improvement; the migration process.

I recommend creating an inbox folder for the project so that you can keep track of the communication back and forth.

One way that we measure success is if the project is complete and it's working, and Evince Development has done an excellent job so far. Primarily, we build websites using WordPress for my clients. I am able to provide visuals to them (from graphic designers, for example) and they implement them. I typically handle the content aspect and they manage the appearance and more custom code.

We had a major job in 2021 which involved converting a Joomla-based website into WordPress, which was very difficult because of ten years' worth of custom code that the webmaster had created. Evince was able to rework it so that it worked on the new platform. The clients are always very pleased with the work we turn over.

We had a client who was a large franchise organization. We were tasked with building a Wordpress website that would support 150+ franchises, with the ability to scale. What made the project unique was the need for franchisees to login and make updates in a more simplified, custom backend. We also had a large number of dynamic pieces - like pricing puling from their ecom API, different links to external sites for each franchisee, and other franchisee content dynamically inserted into national pages.

We interviewed a handful of developers, both in the US and India. We were really impressed with Evince's initiative and thoroughness in the this part of the process.

We kicked off with a defined scope of work that did shift over time. Evince was flexible in meeting our needs throughout the project. There were some items that required change orders, but those were integrated in the existing timeline to keep us on track.

The scope of work covered the entire backend build of the Wordpress multisite for 150+ subfolder sites, integration with all of the franchisee datapoints, migrating all data for each franchisee from their old site, and building backend admin pieces in a way such that franchisees and corporate could easily make edits. Design was out of scope of the project, as that is Trebletree's specialty.

We've worked with 3 individuals at Evince. Our Business Consultant has been amazing throughout the entire project, always making sure we are happy with the work completed. We also worked directly with 2 developers. Everyone has been easy to communicate with. We are a Microsoft Teams shop and we also use Clickup for task management.

They integrated right in our workflow and we are able to use our same systems to work with them. It's easy to chat with them when we have a question or discussion point - we simply just bring it up in our ongoing Teams channel.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The project just launched so we don't have any measurable outcomes. We have anecdotal feedback from the client that both on the corporate side and the franchisee everyone has been extremely happy with the site. Initial results show that even after 2 weeks we're starting to get the new domain ranking in Google and there hasn't been the significant drop in organic traffic that you would expect with a site relaunch, especially when you are changing the domain name.

We use Microsoft Teams for communication and Clickup for project management. The Evince team integrated with those tools so that we could stick with our flow/process.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We have been so impressed with the Evince team's willingness to go above and beyond for their clients. After launch we faced an issue with the site going down - caused by choosing the wrong host for such a large multisite (which was on Trebletree). The Evince team worked with us outside of business hours to stabilize the site and make a number of improvements to ensure the website was functioning on a host that was very undersized.

Even before launch, the team was always willing to adjust things to meet our client's needs. Also, their team was great at identifying any potential problems, and they always had a solution ready.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Honestly, no. We've been very happy with the work that Evince has done and the support the team has provided. We've already started scoping out future projects with the team.

We had several project preparation meetings, in which we explored all client's demands. After, a proposal was sent, with all of the steps and details of each aspect : technology is Magento / React Native for Mobile app. Each two weeks, a report is sent, with the details of the ongoing tasks, and the completed ones. Special demands as quote request, dedicated promotions area, and push notification options are all being implemented in project.

The project is still ongoing, but we are sure it will provide a huge benefit to ou client. He will be able to receive orders / quotes from all of his existing clients through the App, and eventually acquire new ones ! The app provides excel order / quote sheets that are then integrated in his CRM, an additional plus for his business.

The whole team is always available for calls, data sharing and issues fixing meetings. Deadlines are always on time, and we were informed well in advance if an issue was found and the time necessary for it to be solved.

Their professionalism, skills, and knowledge are out of the ordinary. They provide solutions for each demand or additional fonctionnality that might be required . On top of that, their kindness towards clients is something so overwhelming, they make us feel we are in the same room working together even if we are an Ocean apart. In an extremely 'digitalized' Planet, this 'Human' touch is extremely remarkable.

The pandemic situation we are all living in has somehow 'detached' teams, I really feel that they are doing their best to make sure this fragmentation doesn't impact results and deadlines.

Evince then sent over different mock ups of what the dashboard could look like and once that was approved on our end, the process of creating each page of the platform started.

At the beginning in was about every other day that we were communicating and then once the development process started it would be about once a week that we would discuss progress, questions, etc. by email and phone call as needed.

We ended up with a more visual appealing website that included more content that would help us from an SEO perspective. At the same time, the user experience improved. We also now have an online store that is is more functional and easier to navigate. We were worried that we would be penalized by google as we transitioned to our new site, but we did not lose traffic and our visitors have continued to grow.

Reverb.com is the world’s largest online marketplace for musical instruments. Users can leverage our platform to buy and sell music gear.

As the sales and chain manager, I’m in charge of managing all of our sellers who use APIs to connect to the platform as well as managing the app store and other ancillary responsibilities.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Evince Development?

Our main challenge was finding a way to help our sellers better source music production gear. We have a large, active pool of sellers who look for really good deals on the site so that they can turn over a quick profit. 

Since they’re our ideal client base, we came up with an app idea that would allow users to automatically make offers for specific listings and gear with a click of a button. We decided to outsource that development to Evince Development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement? 

Evince Development was responsible for building our desktop-based music gear marketplace app. We required them to use Ruby on Rails for the framework, deploy it on Heroku for the backend, and switch our database to PostgreSQL. 

All in all, it worked out pretty well. They were quick to become familiar with Heroku and PostgreSQL. In terms of the design, we provided consultations and suggestions, and they implemented it.

What is the team composition? 

We directly worked with about five resources.

How did you come to work with Evince Development?

This was the first project that we’d ever outsourced, which was a big step for us. In the past, we’d done development in-house, but now our resources are limited because we’re scaling up. That’s why we decided to post a job to Upwork. Evince Development came across it, did a good job of following up, and won the contract.

We’ve spent around $8,000 to date.

What is the status of this engagement?

The bulk of the development lasted from January–March 2019. Things really started taking off in April, and we onboarded beta testers in May. Currently, they still provide ongoing maintenance and support.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

So far, the app has been well-received by our team and users. While I can’t share specifics on our metrics, our team judges the outcome based on the number of active users on the app, offers set up, and offer amounts. 

If something goes haywire with the app, it will affect our metrics, so Evince Development is good about maintaining the solution and fixing any issues.

How did Evince Development perform from a project management standpoint?

The team has given us a lot of trust and favors as we’ve progressed. At times, there have been delays and additional things that we’ve needed them to do. In those cases, they’ve been really flexible, which has led to a better, more long-term business relationship.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I really appreciate their consistent communication. That was one of our biggest worries about outsourcing to a third party. What would happen if they’d just decided to run off with our project or leave it incomplete?

Instead, they constantly communicate with us if any issues pop up. I know that I can reach out to them reliably within certain times ranges, and I’ll usually get a response within 24 (if not 12) hours.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could’ve done a better job setting up testing environments. There were definitely little bugs that popped up unexpectedly that caused issues for our sellers, such as duplicate errors or delays in the scheduling system. If they had better safeguards and testing methods in place, it would make things easier for us.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

In addition to being clear about your goals and what you’re looking to get out of the project, you should take the time to set up expectations around testing protocols (i.e., A/B testing, green light testing). That’s something our team could have done a better job of doing. 

Even though we stumbled, Envince Development definitely picked up the work and got us across the finish line with minimal issues.
