What challenge were you trying to address with Yodel Mobile?
Our main business challenge was creating more ways for our app to be discovered on Google Play and App Store. Aside from that, we wanted to modify the app’s UX to make it more engaging and capable of retaining more users.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Initially, we dove deep into our status as a company. We did a product audit and came up with the next steps of the engagement in terms of what Yodel Mobile would be doing for us.
They did two main projects for us. One was app store optimization, and the second one was mobile CRM. For app store optimization, the team helped us find keywords for our app. We used the keywords in our descriptions to gain visibility and drive more downloads. Our teams worked on a few iterations of that; every, we had a new set of keywords, which we used to update the app’s metadata. This would allow us to move up in the algorithm of each app store.
For mobile CRM, Yodel Mobile worked with us to develop in-app messaging to drive users back to the app. They created a seven-day funnel starting with the first time the user interacted with the app. On top of that, their members created various push notifications and in-app messages to spur specific interactions that would retain users in the app.
Moreover, Yodel Mobile provided us with guidance on how our ad assets should look like. They audited our Google Ads to make sure that they converted users. We leveraged their guidance on whatever marketing campaign we were doing.

Some people worked strictly on app store optimization, while another team worked on mobile CRM tasks. Another team helped us with our marketing, diving deep into our analytics platform to make sure we were capturing the right data. We interacted with around eight people across those three teams.

The team laid out a plan and stuck to it — they were great at putting together presentations to teach us about app store optimization, and we learned many things. Introduce your business and what you do there.
I'm the brand content and communications manager at Yodel Delivery Network Ltd, a final mail carrier based in the UK. We work with about 80% of the UK’s high-street retailers in delivering parcels to customers’ homes and to their local stores, where they can go and collect their packages at a time that suits them. We also have an online booking platform where customers can go on, buy labels, and send their own parcel to any customer in the UK. Moreover, we have a consumer app that allows customers to track their parcel deliveries and manage different delivery options.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Yodel Mobile?
We were relaunching our consumer app, but we didn’t have experience in app marketing internally. Therefore, we needed an organization that could support our promotional activities around the app’s relaunch, so we hired Yodel Mobile.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Yodel Mobile has helped us promote our customer app. Initially, we went through an in-depth market research process to look at our competitors, their use of the space, and best practices within the industry. We also went through our key metrics and goals, for which Yodel Mobile helped us come up with said metrics. After that, they put a marketing plan in place that covered how we would achieve those goals.
The first step of this plan was doing a full revamp of our app store optimization (ASO). For this step, Yodel Mobile updated our App Store and Google Play screens and listing information to ensure we were making the best use of the available options to improve our search positioning, rankings, and conversion rates. They also ensured to present our app as professional and attractive as possible.
After that, Yodel Mobile started helping us with our Apple Search Ads and other ad placement activities. Their team has managed our promotional activities and campaigns. Their scope has also included creating the designs for our ads and supporting other asset creation to use on our own channels, allowing us to have very consistent promotional designs.
What is the team composition?
Yodel Mobile has used a full-team approach for our project. The initial conversations were held with Mick (Founder & CEO), who has also been involved in the project throughout. We’ve also worked with Yodel Mobile’s business development person who’s no longer assigned to our account. Additionally, we work with Rishan (Strategy Growth Director), who has led our marketing strategy, their ASO team, their paid advertising team, a content creator, and Jason (Growth Director). Jason has suggested ideas to improve engagement and usage time and prevent bad app store ratings.
How did you come to work with Yodel Mobile?
We were looking for a company that could support us through the process and educate us on best practices so that we could make the best decisions for the business. Thus, I searched on Google and found Yodel Mobile.
Before finding them, I had a workshop with a competitor of theirs, during which I found out that there was a whole market of agencies focused on mobile app marketing. Following that workshop, I found and shortlisted four different companies to be part of a bidding process. We ultimately chose Yodel Mobile because we felt that they would be the best ones to take us through the process.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent around £300,000 (approximately $372,000 USD).
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in July 2021, and our collaboration is ongoing. Our launch campaign finished in 2022, but we’ve continued to use them for our marketing activities.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
From the start, the most important success metric for us was the number of parcels that were matched through the app. Our secondary metrics included the number of downloads, the conversion rate, and the number of default safe places and neighbor preferences stored.
Since working with Yodel Mobile, we’ve achieved 2.6 million downloads, leading to 8.5 million parcels being matched. This means that we’ve proactively delivered what our customers have asked for within the app 8.5 million times without them having to get in contact with us. Moreover, we’ve increased our conversion rate through the app listings by 60%, and our ad spend has been kept relatively low, which is great.
How did Yodel Mobile perform from a project management standpoint?
Yodel Mobile’s project management has been fantastic, and they’ve been very accommodating. Sometimes, we’ve had last-minute change requests, especially around design pieces. Still, Yodel Mobile has been great at delivering those items on time while producing high-quality output.
Yodel Mobile has weekly calls with us to keep us all on track and provide us with weekly reports on ad performance. Thanks to those reports, we’re able to make quick decisions on where to allocate our ad spend and address any issues quickly. Every six weeks, we review our metrics against our KPIs. In addition to our calls, we communicate via email, which works really well for us.
Whenever something has a negative impact on results, Yodel Mobile reaches out to us immediately to avoid leaving urgent matters unresolved until our next call. Additionally, their team highlights issues outside their scope of work that they come across so that our product team can address them.
We have access to Yodel Mobile’s entire team, which is great. Whenever we have questions or queries, we can reach out directly to the expert in that particular area and get their feedback and guidance. This has allowed us to tackle challenges or issues very quickly.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Yodel Mobile’s patience and the fact that they know they’re the experts in their field are impressive. They’ve been really supportive of training my team and me in that space as well so that we know what we’re talking about, helping us make decisions jointly.
Additionally, Yodel Mobile never bombards us with complex terminology or tries to push their own agenda. Instead, they explain everything to us, and whenever they have recommendations, they check with us first. From the start, we wanted a partnership approach to the project; that was why we chose them in the first place.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Yodel Mobile keeps learning and growing, and we’re also changing and evolving as an account. One of our challenges has been trying to get payments through whenever we’ve been on a very tight budget. However, we’ve always looked at alternative ways to increase that budget, and they’ve been very supportive in that regard.
For example, our first challenge was when we were trying to get some additional outputs, but we needed some additional budget so that they could produce them. Therefore, Yodel Mobile helped us present our case to our stakeholders and get that additional budget.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Have good conversations with them because they’re the experts, so they're very willing to explain everything. Moreover, provide them with as much information about your business as possible. They’re always keen to learn, and they’ll provide you with recommendations for your business, so treat them as an extension of your team.

I'm currently leading the business division of native apps in Mindvalley. Mindvalley is an e-learning platform that focuses on personal growth.

For what projects/services did your company hire Yodel Mobile, and what were your goals?
We were kickstarting paid user acquisition for the new app and didn't have enough internal expertise and resources to do it ourselves. We engaged Yodel organically (through market research). Our goals were focused on CPA and growth.
SOLUTION
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
As mentioned above we sought out vendors organically. We surveyed about 4-5 agencies before deciding to go with Yodel. The team were attentive and we could sense that we would be able to work well together. We originally wanted to only engage Yodel for 6months with the expectation being we would then eventually build our own inhouse team.

First we had our use cases and goals which were focused on maintaining a low CPA. The onboarding process was seamless whereby we exchanged NDAs before granting all necessary permissions to Yodel's team. We were also assigned an AM and dedicated teams who were always helpful and often times were reaching out to us more than we were to them.
How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
We have a dedicated account manager, Rish, who has been stellar in helping us achieve understanding and managing negotiations both internally and externally. Then we also have dedicated teams of at least 2-3 people depending on the project that we work on.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
The general outcome was successful which is why they managed to retain us as a client despite our initial intent of 6 months. Our UA project was not as successful but we gave them very aggressive targets and were also going through some internal changes. Therefore we don't harp on that as much. Our ASO project on the other hand had been very successful. We've seen weekly growth in visibility and/or keyword ranking of up to +200% which is formidable. The team also actively monitors and informs us of other errors and suggestions that are not ncessarily in their scope.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
We had weekly check-ins when we ran UA. With ASO, we recently decided to change our cadence to biweekly to align with the ASO typical timeline. However the team is always available for us if/when needed. In the mean time we are also actively connected on Slack for any BAU/adhoc items that come up.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
There's something unique about Yodel's team compared to other agencies we've worked with. They are not only skillful and knowledgeable but also genuinely keen to deliver value. This alignment makes us feel like they're just an extended part of our team instead of an external agency.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
They could bring more competitor insights for us. We focus a lot on our own performance and historical growth but as we innovate, we tend to go down a tunnel vision and could use some unwarranted external feedback from time to time

I’m a manager at a cashback platform. Our users can transact across 5,000 different merchants in various verticals across retail, travel, financial services, etc. We pass the majority of the commission we earn back to the user.

What challenge were you trying to address with Yodel Mobile?
A big chunk of our business is app-based, and we had paused our app marketing a few years ago. We wanted to relaunch our organic and paid app acquisition. Since we had little to no experience in app marketing, we wanted to find a specialist agency with a good track record to run those campaigns.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Yodel Mobile provides app marketing for us, including app store optimization (ASO) and paid campaigns. They help us optimize our app stores and conversions from people who land on our pages to registered members. The team also helps us with social media marketing (SMM), running ad campaigns on platforms like Facebook and other social media at varying degrees of investment to promote the app.
The team mainly works in the app stores from Android and iOS to get us to appear in search results for our brand or relevant related searches, such as for cashback apps or apps to save money. Yodel Mobile focuses on ensuring we appear in the right places for the right searches.
First, we went through a contracting and onboarding process and walked through Yodel Mobile’s established workflow and progress. We shared as much research as possible, and they did their own research about our target users and the market opportunities. They looked into the market’s competitiveness, keywords we should use, and gaps in our organic acquisition.
From there, Yodel Mobile delivered an orientation piece and produced creative following our guidelines. We went through a signoff process for the creative. Then they launched the paid campaigns and later our organic activity. We’ve extended the campaigns a few times and are currently doing some retargeting. Additionally, the team has helped us install an attribution tool within the app, which gives us visibility of what users are doing and the campaigns’ success. Yodel Mobile has also given us some feedback within the app regarding data points and how we can improve the process and flow.
What is the team composition?
I’ve met 8–9 teammates from Yodel Mobile, including the owner and founder, who’s been involved since the contract discussions. Our regular team includes a strategic account director, an account manager, and specialists in paid advertising, organic ASO, and creative.
How did you come to work with Yodel Mobile?
I did some research while looking for an app marketing specialist. There are many digital agencies in the UK, but I wanted someone for whom app marketing was their bread and butter, which made our universe relatively small. I saw Yodel Mobile listed on a few sites, saw the awards they’ve won, and their credentials. Their past clients were quite cool and aligned with our industry, so we put them on a shortlist to come in and pitch for us.
We went through a pitch process and reached out to a number of agencies that pitched for us. Yodel Mobile’s team stood out because we liked them as people. Moreover, the credentials were there, and their track record was impressive. We also liked their launching, learning, optimizing, and scaling methodology. Yodel Mobile has been a great partner, and their results have been very impressive. Our most important metric is the volume of app installs we get. We can see where installs are coming from and attribute it to the source. Thanks to Yodel Mobile’s paid and organic work, our daily average of app installs has dramatically increased.
Our second most important metric is the cost per acquisition (CPA), which includes the blended cost of organic and paid activities. Yodel Mobile reports this number every week with the data they provide. The team has gotten our CPA down to a number we’re comfortable with. Although there are other metrics, such as visibility, those two are our focus.
How did Yodel Mobile perform from a project management standpoint?
Their project management is excellent, and they’re very communicative. The data they produce is good and timely. We have a weekly check-in meeting for which they always prepare and circulate an agenda beforehand. During the meetings, we discuss what’s working and what isn’t.
Moreover, we interact with the whole team. I’ve worked with agencies where we only talk to the account manager. With Yodel Mobile, the individuals who manage any given part of the project attend our meetings. We don’t have to go through the account manager to talk to the creative team. Therefore, we can ask questions directly, and they’ve become an extension of our internal team.
Yodel Mobile’s founder and owner has personally reached out to me on a one-to-one basis 3–4 times since we started to check in with me and see if we have any issues. He takes a very active interest, is very personable, and genuinely cares about our success. This approach differs from the leads of other agencies I’ve worked with.
As for tools, our meetings are on Zoom or Microsoft teams, and we also use email. They use Excel to present the data to us.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Yodel Mobile’s results speak for themselves, and they can stand behind what they’ve achieved in terms of install volume and CPA. Overall, it’s been great working with them, and I’m really pleased we decided to engage with them.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, everything has gone so well with them. If it were another agency, I could deceive difficult moments or bumps in the road, but it hasn’t been that way with Yodel Mobile.
