End users are happy with the results. Velvetech LLC ensures on-time deliverables and a seamless partnership. They’ve met all requirements to date.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I’m the founder and president of Real Data Strategies, Inc. We analyze data from hundreds of Multiple Listing Services (MLS) in the U.S. Our team gathers, stores, and standardizes millions of property and entry records. We use this data to publish quarterly and monthly analyses of the real estate market and industry.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Velvetech LLC?

We’ve worked with Velvetech LLC on MLS data gathering and storage within our warehouse, which they’ve also designed and supported.

What were your goals for this project?

We needed a qualified technical partner to do the heavy lifting. Those supplemental resources would enable us to concentrate on the value added from our application.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

A former employee became a business analyst for Velvetech LLC. They introduced us to the team’s extensive technical and project management capabilities.

Describe the project in detail.

They feed data into the databases. We access that information on an as-needed basis to meet our contracted publication schedules. Services include standardization, storage, and monthly and quarterly downloading. The team also streamlines access to listings and maintains entity records from online MLSs.

What was the team composition?

We worked with our former employee during the partnership’s initial stages.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We’ve met all contracted deliverables and have virtually no client turnover as a result.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The partnership is seamless and highly effective. We seldom need to communicate, unless new systems are added to the process.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They were willing to design a system that met our unique needs.

Are there any areas for improvement?

No. We love our partnership, the team’s technical skill sets, and our data warehouse’s automated updates. Our team has nearly zero concerns; that’s the definition of a great partnership.

Feedback summary:

The app has dramatically reduced manual requirements and improved operational scalability. With a vested interest in product efficacy, Velvetech strove to understand business needs and readily proposed valuable, experienced ideas. Organized project management enabled a cooperative partnership.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I am a partner at 20/20 Foresight, an executive search firm that specializes in placing C-level and executive level positions at real estate investment companies.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Velvetech LLC?

Our company maintains an expansive database of companies and people, including their current contact information. Because our entire workflow is centered on this platform, we have a team of researchers responsible for manually updating fluid information related to these records on an hourly basis. We hired Velvetech to build an application that would automate a large portion of this process.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to improve our scalability and reduce or eliminate the need for additional personnel to perform remedial tasks.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We selected Velvetech based on their knowledge of our end goals. We were especially impressed with their CEO.

Can you go into detail about the services they provided and the scope of the project?

Velvetech developed a proprietary application. They engineered the entire lifecycle from the process mapping to product delivery and training.

What was the team composition?

The team consisted of a project manager with a team of developers beneath him.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The impact is significant. We are now able to import and update data into our database nearly three times faster than we could before.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Their sprint methodology facilitated effective and highly collaborative project management, with clearly delineated assigned roles for each developer. Communication was systematic and always on schedule.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We appreciated their engaged approach to the process design prior to building the technology. Rather than simply ask us what we wanted, they quickly grasped the nuances of our business, offering their own experienced advice and ideas to optimize and enhance certain aspects.

Are there any areas where they can improve?

There are none that I can think of. We look forward to working with Velvetech in the future.

Feedback summary:

So far, the results have been astronomical. Velvetech LLC continues to produce work that increases user engagement, remaining communicative and professional in their work ethic. Overall, they’re consistently responsive, understanding, and committed to the project.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I’m the president of Whatmed, S.C. We offer a healthcare app with three main services. First, users can find information on over-the-counter and herbal medications for early symptoms of minor illnesses. Second, users can schedule a paid consultation with a specialist through our virtual medical office. Lastly, users can purchase over-the-counter medications and have them delivered to their home or office. The platform is available on iOS, Android, and web-based devices.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Velvetech LLC?

We’d initially developed the application offshore, and we were running into many problems. Frequent crashes, blank pages, and display problems were hurting our business. We needed to refurbish the app and redevelop some of the functionality to improve our user engagement while staying within our cost and time constraints.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to recreate all of the original functionalities of the app, with all of the bugs and crashes worked out. We needed the UX to be the same across all platforms—iOS, Android, and web devices.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We were looking for vendors with strong communication skills and a good culture located in the Greater Chicago area. We also wanted a team with experience in the healthcare industry. After a vigorous internet search, we narrowed our options down to five candidates. Velvetech LLC was very responsive and showed a real commitment to our project, so I chose to partner with them for this project.

Can you go into detail about the services they provided and the scope of the project?

We started with a discovery session to establish a mutual understanding of our business challenges and our goals. They submitted a proposed workflow and mockups for our approval. Then, they began the development process, which was structured in two-week sprints. During each period, they made improvements and implemented any changes we requested.

Velvetech LLC worked on our platform and built a landing page. They created, configured, and refurbished the functionality of our site while fixing bugs that trigger our system to crash. They continue to support our development efforts.

What was the team composition?

There are three people on our core team, but they provide additional specialists when necessary. Our main point of contact is our project manager, who holds progress report meetings during every phase of the project.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

We’re still working, but so far, we’ve seen an astronomical increase in user registration and customer engagement. The platform is more robust than its previous iteration, allowing us to confidently deploy new services and grow our business.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Their project management skills far exceeded my expectations. They routinely meet deadlines and regularly communicate any delays we should be aware of. All of our interactions are through GoToMeeting, Jira, and GitHub. If we do email or call their team with problems or questions, they respond promptly.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We have direct access to every part of their team, and their culture is highly communicative. They’re always available for discussions and patient when trying to understand goals and challenges. The team’s knowledge and drive help them complete tasks.

Are there any areas where they can improve?

I can’t think of any aspect of their service that needs improvement. I hope they maintain this level of excellence ad infinitum.

Still in development, the software has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from stakeholders. Expertise and meticulousness are hallmarks of their work. Velvetech's responsiveness, high-quality deliverables, and focus on customer service justify the investment and make them a valuable partner.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm the retail garden center manager and communications director for Leider Greenhouses. We’re primarily wholesale flower growers.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Velvetech LLC?

We needed a partner to help us build a custom production software for our business. We also needed IT help with migrating an old server to a new server.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We split up the work into two projects. The primary one is building a new production software. Our previous software was 20 years old and in need of updating. The language it was written in was very outdated. Plus, there were a lot of flaws and things that we didn't need anymore. Velvetech LLC completely rebuilt it and modified our production system. It helps us with all stages of growing plants, everything from placing an initial order for product to each stage of growing the plant. It tracks the process from moving a cutting into a different sized pot to what greenhouse it’s in, and the process varies based on the product that we're growing.

What is the team composition?

We have one project manager who oversees the project. The owner and senior director are both always available as well.

How did you come to work with Velvetech LLC?

We’d been searching for a company that could help us. We found one company in the horticulture industry that had an existing pre-built program. We tied it out, but it did not go well. Then we did a Google search for program design firms. We interviewed a lot of different companies. One reason we went with Velvetech LLC was they were thorough in their initial exploration of our current setup and what we needed. Their costs were lower as well because they use programmers in Russia.

How much have you invested with them?

We've paid them around $54,000 to date. We’ll owe them more once the other project is done, but I don't have an exact amount.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2018. They’re not fully done with the new production software but it's close. We're actually adding on new things to our program because they've done such a fantastic job so far.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They’ve made significant improvement in our peace of mind in terms of IT support. There's not been one technology related problem or issue that Velvetech LLC hasn’t been able to solve. We’ve worked with a lot of tech firms over the years that were never able to figure things out. They're able to figure out every issue we face, which is excellent.

How did Velvetech LLC perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re unbelievably organized and detailed in everything they do. They send regular weekly status updates and billing reports. They document every single conversation we have. Their contracts are very detailed. It's been amazing working with them.

They have a good-sized team working on our projects. We use GoToMeetings to communicate with our project manager, and then they keep the rest of their team in the loop. We really like that it’s not a challenge to know who to talk to about any issue; it all goes through one person.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We've never worked with a better company. I wish more companies were as organized and responsive as Velvetech LLC. They make it so easy to communicate with them. They always respond quickly. They’re true to their word. When they give a date for when something will be done, there's never been a time that they don't meet the schedule. They remember every detail that we mention of future projects or issues. They always follow up, no matter how small the detail. We really appreciate their customer service. It’s the best.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, they've met all of our expectations. Anything that has come up—such as a billing issue—they're willing to come up with a solution that works for us and them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be as detailed and clear in your initial exploration and explanation of the project. They more you can tell them about you want them to build, the fewer issues that may come up down the line.

Feedback summary:

A proactive and punctual team, Velvetech efficiently overcame publication challenges to launch the app. They were responsive day-to-day and accommodated functionality creep at a reasonable cost. In addition to professionalism and flexibility, the team’s technical expertise benefited the partnership.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CEO and founder of MJS Apps. Our dating app is called CIND, which stands for Chivalry is Not Dead.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Velvetech?

We hired them to develop our dating app for the iOS platform.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I made detailed mockups in PowerPoint as a substitute for wireframes. Velvetech used those files to draft designs and refine the look. The team then provided design options. They programmed the solution after I made my selection.

After a six-week iterative publishing process, CIND is now live in the App Store. As a dating app, the solution’s core functionality enables users to browse profiles and match with other people. Features include a system administrator interface, chat, and geolocation-based searches. Users can post commentary and their demographic information, as well as upload photos and videos.

What is the team composition?

I interfaced with a local business development professional in the United States, two program managers in Europe, and at least one technical coder. Those resources had a larger team working behind the scenes.

How did you come to work with Velvetech?

My business partner and I searched for American app developers, but later narrowed the search to local vendors. My experience with remote software developers—which I found difficult—made me partial to a nearby agency. We interviewed several companies including one software developer that recommended Velvetech to us. Velvetech’s costs were lower than the four other estimates we received. We hired them because they offered native app development at a lower price without sacrificing quality.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent approximately $30,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them from April–August 2018. Currently, my team is building the proof of concept for the Android version. Velvetech is now competing with other companies for that build.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Apple required modifications for the app’s publication; Velvetech executed those fixes quickly. The team appreciated that Apple’s feedback made us anxious. They’ve completed 59 additions to date. Although we had some flexibility for this timeline, Velvetech’s efficient interactions with Apple were valuable.

We don’t have substantive metrics because the app has only been live for two business days. I look forward to seeing how the code and downloads perform. So far, Velvetech has done well.

How did Velvetech perform from a project management standpoint?

Velvetech was the best vendor I’ve worked with. They were proactive, thorough, and punctual. The team had fair pricing and provided concrete cost ranges for complex components. Their extra hours for functionality creep were reasonably priced; Velvetech won’t build extra functionalities for free, but they don’t overcharge either. We used Confluence as the build’s program management system while submitting some requests via email. Their team used Jira internally and a conference call system for our weekly conversations. The user-friendly system—which we could access via computer or phone—made screen sharing easy.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Velvetech was organized, professional, and responsive to all of our concerns. I raised about 10 issues on a daily basis, but the team didn’t let anything fall through the cracks. They helped us navigate new technologies including screen recording on iPhones. Recording helped us convey issues more effectively. A knowledgeable team, they delivered promptly and made the experience enjoyable.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Compared to industry standards, Velvetech was above average for nearly every metric.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Projects are successful when clients develop their ideas fully before starting the engagement. Detailed mockups and clear visions make the experience easier. Provide Velvetech with a comprehensive idea and they’ll flesh out the concept.

The website is secure and functions as expected. Velvetech went above and beyond to meet all needs and work with the changing needs of a startup. Their expertise, commitment, and professionalism made them a go-to partner.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm the CEO of Runner's High Studio. We're a technology and fitness company. We have 25 automated treadmills and we customize workouts for our clients.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Velvetech?

We needed a company to help us create the automation for our treadmills and sync it to our website.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed a website and synced it to our treadmills. Now, people can go to our website and build their profiles, and their data is sent to the treadmills in our studio. They also created a CRM for data management on the backend and linked it to a payment service.

What is the team composition?

We had two main points of contact and a team of 6–7 developers.

How did you come to work with Velvetech?

I was looking for a company for a very long time since it's not an easy task to tap into an API attached to a treadmill. I don't remember how exactly I found Velvetech, but I was impressed by their thoroughness and the detailed proposal they put together.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about $50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them between August 2016—April 2017.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We haven't had any issues with the website. We were a startup, so things have been a little choppy at the beginning, but they were fantastic at handling everything.

How did Velvetech LLC perform from a project management standpoint?

They followed their scope of work precisely and handled everything very well. The team was based in Moscow, but we didn’t have any issues. They used a project management tool internally to keep track of the project.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They're real experts at what they do. We caused them a lot of work and extra effort on our end, but they were always a great partner to us. I'd strongly recommend them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't think of anything.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Velvetech LLC ensured a smooth process by reacting to a changing scope and making appropriate alterations. They understood all the various languages and platforms and communicated well. They were responsive, meticulous, and organized, and their business savvy rivaled their engineering skills.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm the CEO of a unified communications VoIP provider servicing North America.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Velvetech LLC?

We had a new unified applications platform that needed some integrations with top-class cloud platforms, including Salesforce and Kazoo.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We use Kazoo as our communications platform, which allows for computer-telephone integrations. This lets users answer Salesforce calls through their existing desk phone. Besides sending, receiving, and recording phone calls, users can also dictate notes, assign activities, and view caller ID credentials.

Working with our platform, Velvetch built the UI with JavaScript and created a custom Erlang module for Kazoo. They executed the whole module from scratch—it didn’t exist before we started, but it was a necessary part of the project. They also resolved issues with our computer telephony integration (CTI) panel as we switched our business over to Salesforce. Now, we're able to maintain the view state across multiple tabs within Salesforce in addition to utilizing visual voicemail.

What is the team composition?

We worked with a team of 4–5, led by a project manager out of Russia. The manager was a pleasure to deal with.

How did you come to work with Velvetech LLC?

We found them in a web search. I didn’t know much about them, but they worked very carefully to make sure they matched the syntax and preferred integrations for Kazoo and Erlang. They turned out to be one of the best third-party integrators for Kazoo that we'd ever seen. We took a bit of a gamble on them, but they made recommendations that yielded glorious results. It’s been a really worthwhile venture.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent between $50,000–$100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

They worked with us between January–December 2017.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Velvetech finished the project in a relatively short amount of time, despite building new software from scratch. Although we kept changing the scope, they reacted well and accommodated our requests accordingly. When we switched our business over to Salesforce, they helped us debug the CTI panel. The team quickly resolved the few issues and glitches we found. It was remarkable; we'd never had such a smooth process with any of the programs or languages they worked in. A lot of these were new technologies, but they were always able to adapt and comprehend the task at hand.

How did Velvetech LLC perform from a project management standpoint?

They were the best team I’d ever worked with, and I would give them the highest marks. Not only were they good engineers, but they also had good business sense. They understood what we were trying to accomplish and delivered what we wanted. We mostly communicated through Slack and used GitLab as a platform for tickets, comments, and milestones.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their speed, responsiveness, and meticulous attention to detail were all impressive. They were extremely organized and concise, and we appreciated the work that they did. They were clear and made decisions based on common sense.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. I plan to keep using them for future projects and don’t have any negative critiques for them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I can’t think of any advice. They’re easy to work with, and it’s a pleasure to partner with a team that knows what they’re doing.

We needed a company to build a web application using ASP.NET, JavaScript, C#, and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Velvetech is a flexible company. We regularly changed requirements based on customer feedback, and they were agile enough to adapt to our needs without missing a step. They were also able to scale quickly as our needs grew.

The CMS has withstood three redesigns and both internal and external feedback is entirely positive. Velvetech is trustworthy, consistent, responsive, and always professional. They are willing to take on projects of any size and set the benchmark for other vendors.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am the manager of corporate communications at Apache Corporation, an oil and gas exploration and production company. We are based in Houston but have a global footprint.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Velvetech?

We had an old website that was coded by a previous designer. They didn’t keep up with our latest changes and we wanted to find a real CMS team.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They built out a great CMS that has withstood three redesigns. It was a basic corporate B2B website but we wanted our news releases to correlate to each country we were based in. They created a cool system that categorized news releases by country, so we could customize the feed for each branch.

They also created a set of responsive customizations based on .NET. We gave them detailed job plans and cost analysis and they always stayed within our parameters. If we rescoped a project, they adjusted. They created a piece that could connect to Dreamweaver and established a redundancy system for us. They completely rebuilt our backend in 2015 and developed a mobile app. They made a timeline that covers our company’s 60-year history and a mapping system that houses information about each of our projects.

What is the team composition?

I have three regular points of contact. I’m not sure exactly how large the rest of the team is but everyone is always responsive.

How did you come to work with Velvetech?

I found them in a web search and have known them for a long time. We chose them for their price and their professionalism. We first hired them for a tiny coding project to add a feature to the site. They were the only ones willing to take on a little project and we remembered that when we were looking for a new firm. I have a great deal of confidence in them.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent about $300,000 on their development, not including hosting costs.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started the relationship in 2008 and we broke from our contract with our previous vendor in 2010. They currently do maintenance for us.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I have had zero complaints about the website and my IT department likes working with them. They’re wonderful to work with and I don’t have a bad thing to say about them.

How did Velvetech perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re experts and I trust them completely. They’re consistent and I never have to micromanage or worry about the work. We communicate mostly through email and occasionally by phone. They had a project management site that we used as we needed.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I can pick up the phone and brainstorm with them. They’re passionate, confident experts who are full of ideas. Their knowledge is impressive.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It’s rare that I don’t have any suggestions for a vendor. They do a terrific job and our other vendors could learn a lot from them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Let them do their job for you. They are detail-oriented and responsive. You can trust them.
