We have worked together on a broad variety of development projects. Scopes have ranged from very small one-off projects to fuller, more complex applications.

TriState has project managers and a large development team. When a project is first discussed, they review the idea and provide an estimate. Due to my background in technology, I have primarily worked directly with their developers.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

TriState Technology has become an essential part of my business. Establishing trust is difficult to do with an outsourced company. The hardest part of working with any freelance company is trust. With other companies I have used in the past for outsource work, I’ve had experiences with other companies that require redoing the work or making follow-up arrangements due to missed deadlines or sub-par quality. I am never disappointed with the work that TriState provides.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Their approach to project management is excellent. The team is always clear in setting expectations that they’re confident about.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The TriState team works efficiently and charges reasonably. We appreciate all the work they’ve done with us.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We’re almost ready to release the second version of the app and are excited to see how it does on the market. TriState has done a great job to get us here, and I believe it will bring lots of success.

The project manager is very responsive and is online most of the time when I needed assistance. They deliver what is needed on time and with minimal errors.

Communication is efficient with TriState. They’re willing to do whatever it takes to complete the task and their delivery speed is impressive.

Things could be done faster, but we’re very pleased with our results. Quality is always better than speed.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted easy-to-use, high-quality apps with great UX.  They needed to be able to search content on phones and using QuikFynd's AI algorithms.

We selected TriState based on our previous work with them on similar mobile developments.

TriState had a proven methodology for app development. Their team created wireframes and high-fidelity designs for our UX. Then, they coded the app and tested its beta versions. Tristate also helped us launch the app on Android and Apple stores.

The team consisted of a project manager, business development manager, UX Lead, app developer, and a QA specialist.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Our apps for Android and iOS have been successfully submitted to their respective stores.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We used GitHub to share code and used Skype to work through any issues. They made sure communication was seamless. They delivered the work as per our specifications.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We were impressed by their professionalism, clear communication, and responsiveness.

Are there any areas for improvement?

I wish they used the latest trends in UI design for a better UX. They are fully capable to deliver such technology, but you must ask them yourself.

We hired them for mobile app development. The app is the core piece of our business.

The app had to have a user-friendly interface. Furthermore, we needed an admin panel so that we could add/remove new bars and view the customers.

TriState had a good ranking on Upwork and appeared to be the most professional, so we settled on them. Price-wise, we could’ve found a cheaper option but we’re still very happy with our choice.

During the first phase, we developed a working prototype to select the functionality and design of the app. After completing that, both the front and backend of the real app were developed.

We just launched the app a week ago but are very happy with the results and confident in its further progress.

The days leading up to Christmas were quite exhausting for them; they had many projects to finish. Our app was one of them and we didn’t finish it on time.

What challenge were you trying to address with TriState Technology?

Property managers and body corporates have the responsibilities and the task of managing residential communities. This is often a painstaking task riddled with miscommunication and administrative pressure.

EstateMate allows the residents/owners/body corporates to communicate through the mobile app and provide a bigger and better service than ever before. The live chat function allows you to contact management as a resident, as well as allowing the management to immediately respond on the subject matter. This can all be done as soon as the app is opened, with no waiting times, on-hold phone calls, or delayed emails. As management, you can even forward your messages to the management app group if the issue is to be discussed, so everyone can have their say.

As a resident, you can report anything you need, whether it is a security issue, maintenance concern or even a complaint. When this has been done, the management team is then immediately notified and this allows the issue to be dealt with accordingly, then and there. This app removes constant miscommunications and it allows property owners and tenants to address property issues efficiently and with ease, resulting in a better-managed estate.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The did development from scratch, from design to strategy, to post development support. All aspects of the development were handled by the service provider.

We needed a mobile, cloud-based application for iOS and Android based operating systems. It was a hierarchical mobile app design for task management. They built web-based client portals for an easy task and reporting management, including resident access, admin access, and super admin access.  It also includes central database management with data analytics, dedicated hosting services with technical support, and data security.

How did you come to work with TriState Technology?

We found TriState Technology online and vetted and selected as the preferred choice. They have kept their promise and have not disappointed us in their service.

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been working for 8 months and it’s ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

TriState Technology performed really well and we will definitely use them again in the future. They were cost effective and went beyond the scoped agreement to help launch this product. The schedule did creep but this was because TriState was awesome in facilitating some changes along the development process, which were otherwise unforeseen at the scoping phase.

What did you find most impressive about TriState Technology?

TriState Technology is incredibly humble in their approach and their customer relationship skills are excellent. We really enjoyed the way TriState operated in the development of the product.

The challenge was to develop a new health app that would help customers to track, measure, and review their health goals. We wanted to build an app that would display the customer's health data in a more user-friendly way than other apps available in the marketplace.

What were the results of the project?

The results were positive, and the app is providing a revenue stream for us. TriState Technology provided the agreed scope and deliverables within the agreed budget.

Is there anything special or unique about TriState Technology that stands out to you?

One of the great things about TriState is that they were always happy to do whatever they could to make sure that we were happy. For example, they were committed to keep enhancing the product until we were satisfied that they had achieved the requirements at a high quality.

They demonstrated that they had a high level of skill in developing mobile phone applications, and we were happy with the design and functionality of the solution that they developed.

No. I'm very happy with how they performed.

Tristate is handling the entire coding aspect of the project. We have developed our solution as an Android app. They have worked on both the frontend and the backend server portions of the software.

How did you come to work with Tristate?

We went through Elance and other freelancing sites and got in touch with a couple of companies. Tristate offered us a meticulous scope for the project, detailing how it would be broken into subgroups and how much each step would take. We decided to go ahead with them. The Chief Executive Officer of the company handles a lot of the projects personally. We found an attention to detail not available in other places.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

The total cost of the project has been between $10,000-20,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The work is completed. We are continuing to collaborate with Tristate on a support basis.

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

I can't give formal metrics now, but I have feedback. Their quality of work is quite satisfactory, although they haven't always done the best job on the first iteration. We always check the code delivered by Tristate in order to make sure that it's up-to-par with our quality standards. In terms of design and overall quality though, they've done a good job.

How did Tristate perform from a project management standpoint?

They are an extremely accommodating company in terms of changes. If our initial plan would turn out to not be the most suitable approach, Tristate proved helpful in assisting us. They like to find ways to manage the project better and save clients time and money.

What distinguishes Tristate from other providers?

The biggest advantage of working with Tristate is that they are very open to changes. Their quality of work is above-average and quite reasonable. They often figured out better approaches than what we thought would be the best way. Tristate analyzed the project and found the most efficient ways of doing things. The founder of the company has a very good industrial and technical background, which makes him a problem-solver.

Is there anything Tristate could have improved or done differently?

They could improve their in-house testing capabilities. Their coding skills have a 4.5/5 rating, but their testing is only a 4.

I am a manager and cofounder in the company, which is a startup based on the East Coast.

What business challenge were you trying to address with TriState Technology?

We needed help in developing our mobile solution. That was the meat of the project, but also there was some website development also involved, which was important.

TriState built our iOS app and developed our website. Those were the two major services rendered.

How did you come to work with TriState Technology?

I researched companies on freelancing sites like Elance.com. TriState had good reviews and worked for a reasonable price. I called some of the clients who gave reviews on the site. They all gave very good reviews on the phone as well. I was confident TriState would deliver quality work after speaking to current clients.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

The total development cost for the iPhone app was $5,000. Our website had a cost of around $4,000 to $5,000. Total costs will be slightly more than $10,000 with other fixes and upgrades.

What is the status of this engagement?

The work is mostly finished. I ask TriState to make certain changes from time to time. It is not many work hours at this point.

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

The work TriState did was great. For the money I spent, I received great results. They catered to what I wanted. Whenever I made requests for changes, they accommodated me. I am very happy with their service and dedication to us as clients.

How did TriState Technology perform from a project management standpoint?

They were strong and above average in my opinion moving the project to completion.

What distinguishes TriState Technology from other providers?

I have a generally positive view of their team. I liked most if not all of their team members and am happy I chose them.

Is there anything TriState Technology could have improved or done differently?

Everyone can improve. Because TriState is located in India, we have a time gap due to time zones. They could improve their response time. Other than this, they performed well. That is a minor issue, but should be addressed.

My company's name is TruePal LLC. TruePal is a social networking mobile app that connects friends and acquaintances so they can buy and sell things. They can also ask for recommendations. We launched that app three months ago.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What business challenge were you trying to address with TriState Technology?

The biggest challenge we were facing was that we needed a company that could do everything for us, starting from design and project management all the way through to testing, launching, and marketing the product. We found that it was very hard to locate a single shop that could do all of that.

TriState was not quite what we were looking for, but they promised us that, down the line, they would hire a marketing team to do the marketing of the app for us. We've just launched the app and, as promised, TriState Technology has just hired a team that is doing the marketing of the app.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of TriState Technology' involvement in detail.

The app is built for both iOS and Android. Both are completely native. They have written a different code for each platform. For the back-end, they used PHP, and they used SQL for managing data held in the relational database management system.

How did you come to work with TriState Technology?

Actually, they were one of several companies I found on Elance. I looked at three portfolios, which I short-listed and asked each for a quote. I also asked each of them if they could provide end-to-end support. At that time, TriState Technology said they did not do marketing, but that they could do everything else. They promised to hire people to do the marketing. Finally, their quote was very reasonable compared to the other two.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

We have spent somewhere between $50,000 and $100,000 working with TriState Technology.

What is the status of this engagement?

We awarded the project in the last week of January [2015], and the work started in the first week of February. We had the first release of the app in the first week of October. The project is ongoing because we recently got more funding, so now we are bringing out another version and that will be the second part of the project. The first project is completed already. We already launched the app, and now we are on the next version.

Could you share any statistics, metrics or other feedback from this engagement?

The project was planned to take five or six months, but it took a bit longer because the SQL was not able to handle the database management system completely.

The first architect TriState Technology hired ran into the SQL problem, but they never charged for that problem because they said it was a mistake on their architect's side. They then hired a new architect and, although the project took two more months, they didn't charge us for that, and they did the performance testing for no charge as well. That's why I like them. Before that time, I thought we are not getting anywhere, but even without asking them, they realized that the performance was not good and said it was their mistake. They were ready to correct it without charging me extra, which was fantastic, unlike a provider I worked with on a previous project.

What distinguishes TriState Technology from other providers?

TriState is very accommodating and understanding. They understand that when you are working on a project, requirements might change, and they are very accommodating to that, which is a good thing. It is always a challenge to retain resources, but I never ran into that kind of problem with this team because the project was small. Everything was good.

Is there anything TriState Technology could have improved or done differently?

I was never very closely involved with the development teams because I was always talking to the project manager, who was very good. The only time I got involved on the architecture side was the SQL problem with the first architect, but the second architect was awesome. They did a very good job finding that new architect. I was happy with the final project in spite of the two-month delay, which was acceptable. I had originally allowed a buffer of one month but one more month was fine.
