Young Software Factory created by Juan Sendra and Juan Sobral, two software engineers. We cannot describe ourselves without describing these two evil geniuses. Both started together in college, working part-time developing for big companies, working as freelancers, having their own start-ups and a few years back they combined forces to conquer the universe creating SpaceDev in the process.

Great results and deliverys of excellent quality. When times had to be adjusted, they always respond as expected.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Super effective. Communication was fluid, which granted the success of our project. We used Trello to track work and Slack for in-team communications.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The high-quality and details on their deliveries! It´s not so common to find companies which never move deadlines or deliver mid-quality code which then has to be maintained by other team. Once everything was done, a very nice knowledge transfer was put in place and everything run smoothly.

I’m the CEO of ByRenatta. I’m a watercolor artist.

What challenge were you trying to address with SpaceDev?

I wanted an online store to sell my prints. The only complicated part was creating a useful site with enough information. I wanted it to be artistic and reflect my style.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed my online store. It includes all the relevant information on my watercolor classes and allows me to sell prints. They also helped enhance my social media presence to boost my follower count.

It was pretty easy to come to an agreement on how I wanted the website to work. They used Shopify to showcase a full archive of my work. Even if it isn't for sale, it displays what I've done in the past. There’s also a newsletter that interested customers can sign up for.

What is the team composition?

There were 3-4 people working on the project. I was in contact with all of them.

How did you come to work with SpaceDev?

They were referred by a friend that we have in common. That’s why it was so easy to talk and come to an agreement with everything. I didn’t consider anyone else.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent over $2,000 on the project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from March–June 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I’ve sold over 100 prints through the website. When I started, I only had 15 students per month. With the website, I have grown that to around 30 students.

How did SpaceDev perform from a project management standpoint?

They always kept me updated on changes, always answering my questions about their processes. I don't have a tech background, so that was helpful to me.

It was very easy to communicate with them through text and email. They knew I didn’t understand much about website building, so they were there to solve problems. That allowed me to understand the basics of what they were doing.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re very nice, young guys. They understand social media and it's importance to my business. Even though the work centered around the website, they went out of their way to help me with social media.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Even though it was good having 3-4 people working with me, it may have been simpler to work with fewer people. That way, my communication could be more centralized. It didn't pose much of a challenge, though.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Always ask questions to clear your doubts. I was initially hesitant to do this, but they made it very easy.

There were around five people.

I know them personally from years ago, so I knew their work. They are more expensive than some options, but the personal connection helps.

We've spent around $50,000.

We worked on the project from February–November 2019, and we’re still working with them on support.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

To me, the most important things are communications and solutions. They provided great solutions that I gave my feedback on, and they were also proactive and offered their own solutions. 

How SpaceDev perform from a project management standpoint?

We used their platform to communicate, speaking almost every day despite the time difference and working in sprints. We had very strict deadlines and I know they worked overtime to be able to meet them, so there were no problems.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their communications, quality, and business ethics are impressive. They’re also great at DevOps.

No. They always fixed every request we had in a timely manner, so any issues were solved promptly.

We met previously, and I had really good reviews about them.

Based on sharing economy, we offer easy, trustable and secure access to an independent caregiver network without any subscription. An automated matching algorithm guarantee every customer finds the best caregiver for each situation.

What was the team composition?

We have contact with our proyect leader, a key worker on the company. He acts as proyect manager, finding what are our current needs and making a link between our company and the developers.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

After 3 years of working together, we managed to adquire a good place in the Uruguayan market, while we started our internationalization process landing in Santiango de Chile. This was possible due to the assistance of SpaceDev.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

It was really effective, due to the high communication and leading skills that our Team Manager had.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The polyvalency of their value proposition. We never recieved a negative answer about a development or proyect. They have workers that are highly skilled in all areas.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Despite being really good in all areas, there is always room for improvising. We suggest SpaceDev to make a followup to their customers, so not only the Proyect manager knows about the company but either the developers do.
