Describe the scope of work in detail. Please include a summary of key deliverables.

Our goal was to increase conversion rate and attract more users to our product through a modern and understandable design. Rondesignlab created a mood board that featured several options of how our product could look like. We defined a couple of accents and chose a direction in which our product can go. They created a page that is based on our brand’s color scheme and correlates with our mission. They provided us with several design solutions that have different points of focus but were still within the range of our interest. The communication they provided was amazing, we were happy to see that all of our requests were heard and the work was done meticulously.

Rondesignlab was a great pick for us because we wanted a modern look to our brand, keeping our values and vision for the company. They made sure to not leave us to one option, and give us some space to wander. They included our brand’s identity and pointed out exactly how the conversion rate would rise from a specific part of the design. During the iteration period, they always served our needs, and fixed any moments that were not to our liking. Generally, we believe that the design created by Rondesignlab was an exact match to the task we needed to get done.

The project management was great. The Chief Information Officer was quite attentive and the team delivered designs on time. Their responses to our needs was quick.

The project was broken into 6 weeks of sprints, each focusing on a different set of screens for the app. The primary goal was to design a breakthrough app in the self-funded health benefits space. Speed of completion and top quality design were the primary drivers of success.

Project management was excellent. We had two standing check-in meetings per week and work was not only delivered on time, but was often ahead of schedule.

We needed UX/UI help in building out the desktop and the mobile application

How did you select this vendor?

RonDesignLab was a recommendation from a CTO of another software company. They've used the team on several projects in the past and hold them in really high regard.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

The team uses an agile approach that closely parallels our software development project. After the initial research and onboarding phase, we plugged them into our existing project planning too (in this case Jira), where we formed weekly sprints of design work that needed to be completed. The weekly flow that worked well for us was:

1. Sprint planning meeting on Thursday: go over the contents of next week's sprint with RonDesign project manager, hash out any remaining questions on Friday
2. RonDesign PM provides daily updates on progress
3. Twice a week, we have sync-up calls to discuss current sprint in real time In our case, we had UX most worked out and provided RonDesign with rough wireframes. This allowed us to go straight to UI. In areas where this wasn't the case, we started with wireframes and then converted them to UI once those were locked down.

1.  CEO - participated in the initial/setup stages of the project
2. PM - project manager - was the main point of contact responsible for coordinating feedback, setting up sprints, and providing updates.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

I think the biggest testament to the team's success is that we were able to complete the entire fairly sizeable engagement in a span of 5 weeks. This included a desktop and a mobile application.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

It was great. The agile approach and real-time iteration worked amazing - and the fact that they were able to plug right into our existing project management framework was really helpful.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Two things I'd like to mention:

1. There's a really high level of talent on the UI/UX side - stuff comes out looking really crisp and usable
2. They showed a variety of skill sets on their team — from branding, illustration, and UX, to animation, and it all gets done by the same team without having to manage multiple vendors.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Frankly, no. The project went as smoothly as it could have.

The project started with information discovery where we provided a lot of background information and any rough sketches we had. The Rondesign team took a lot of time to understand the problem space before presenting wireframes and finally full designs.

We worked primarily directly with a the CEO and the project manager but in the background had access to their designers.

We have been really pleased with the experience working with Rondesign. They helped us to really understand how the flow through the application would work and what the users needed to achieve at each point.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The workflow was excellent, and there was a high level of communication and collaboration. We used Slack for instant communication and Zoom for our progress calls. Using other tools like Figma and Miro made it really easy for us to keep updated on designs.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their portfolio of work was far superior to anything else we saw from other companies and they had a really collaborative way of working that made it really quick to work through questions.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Overall we were really happy with how the project was run.

Payer Compass is one of the leading companies in the healthcare claim pricing industry. We process millions of healthcare claims and provide transparent information to our users and members so that they can find high-quality and affordable healthcare. I’m the VP of R&D within the company, so I run our engineering side.

What challenge were you trying to address with Rondesignlab?

Rondesignlab helps us with the UI/UX designs of our several different initiatives around our provider- and member-facing systems.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Rondesignlab is basically in charge of all the UI/UX designs for all of our systems. We have several systems that help people find the right doctors. Our users might consider a series of complex variables to look for these healthcare services, such as knowing if the doctor accepts their insurance coverage and how much the procedural costs.

Rondesignlab is very instrumental in taking these complicated ideas and distilling them into very simple user-facing information, so people unfamiliar with the healthcare jargon can easily understand and leverage the information to make better healthcare decisions.

They’ve designed several projects for us. The latest one was Compass Connect, a tool for our clients to go online and find a doctor. They can select specialties, procedures, or bundles of procedures, and the system shows them a list of doctors that meet their needs to help them find a provider.

What is the team composition?

I only work with Ron (Co-Founder), who acts as the lead designer.

How did you come to work with Rondesignlab?

They were recommended to us by another agency whom we work with.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around $100,000–$120,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in late September 2020, and they’re still actively working with us. They constantly help us improve our systems.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Design is typically difficult to measure numerically, specifically in our case, where we can’t A/B test our way through many different designs. However, we’ve received very positive feedback regarding how well the UX has turned out and how easy our systems can be used and understood.

We’ve also received many compliments from both our internal marketing team and our customers about the fact that our systems look great — that’s what we’re looking for in a successful design.

How did Rondesignlab perform from a project management standpoint?

Rondesignlab is very punctual, and with almost no exception, they’ve delivered when they’ve promised. They’ve done a pretty good job communicating expectations and developing a process that allows them to get us from start to finish in the timeframes that we agree upon.

From our perspective and experience working with other designers, they’re one of the better-organized groups.

Rondesignlab participates in all of our Microsoft Teams’ discussions, and we leverage Atlassian’s toolset. Ron is very familiar with Jira, so we use it to interact and manage the project.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Rondesignlab has a very good eye for what is modern and what looks good while making it functional. They’re one of the best firms that can take a complicated concept from a usability standpoint and make it accessible to users. Doing that while making things look good is art, and they’re very good at it.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Honestly, we don’t have any complaints about Rondesignlab’s work, nor any constructive feedback for that matter. There’s always the possibility to look back at our work to improve it. However, given the constraints that we worked with them under, they’ve always delivered.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be very willing to share the big picture. I’ve found that Rondesignlab’s designs are more successful when they understand the big picture of the project and its goals, and it works better than just giving them a set of requirements.

Their strength is taking the idea and figuring out how to make it look good and accessible. Giving them context and freedom brings in the best results.

I’m the head of the product for the company and also in charge of the tech team. We provide a product catered to real estate brokers, it’s a matchmaking service similar to Tinder, bringing together demand and supply.

What challenge were you trying to address with Rondesignlab?

We’d launched the app a year back, but a lot of people didn’t understand the matchmaking system. Our entire business depended on it, and we had a major challenge in terms of UI/UX.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Rondesignlab provided UI/UX design services. We started with the ideation and problem-understanding phase. The team studied the UX problems our users were having and came up with proposed solutions. Additionally, they presented a couple of screens we hadn’t thought of before, one of them being a different kind of chat between the two brokers being matched. They even proposed a new app navigation flow.

Given that the app was already live and we weren’t trying something out for the first time on a whiteboard, the challenge was to not deviate too much from what we had. We needed to solve problems in incremental steps. In the end, we implemented Rondesignlab’s designs using our own tech team.  

What is the team composition?

I believe there were three people from Rondesignlab involved, including a designer and a project manager.

How did you come to work with Rondesignlab?

We’d worked with a design agency before and were looking for one that could solve our business problem. We looked at Dribbble for inspirational work done by various people and found that the designs by Rondesignlab were simple and unique.

How much have you invested with them?

The project’s total cost was around $10,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The design project ran between July–September 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The chat feature was something that was very rarely used before the new design and we saw a significant jump after that. Our team is still implementing the rest of the screens so I can’t speak about their impact yet. But we are sure that we’ll be continuing with Rondesignlab for other work.

How did Rondesignlab perform from a project management standpoint?

They surpassed our expectations, delivering the wireframe work in two weeks instead of four. They were right on point and the communication was also really good. We had Zoom calls every two days, and we also used email and WhatsApp.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Rondesignlab has tackled a broad spectrum of UI/UX problems. They really understood what we needed and it reflected in their work. They did in two weeks what would normally take 1–2 months, from research to design. Speed was something that really mattered and Rondesignlab was on top of it.

Secondly, a lot of agencies tend to overuse animations and color combinations. That’s why I was impressed with the simplicity of Rondesignlab’s work.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t have anything to suggest on areas for improvement.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Rondesignlab was good at coming up with relevant questions. If the client answers those, the team will deliver a good solution. Most of all, they conduct multiple user interviews and requirement gathering meetings.

We only had examples of websites we liked as inspiration for designers to work off of. The site had to include a homepage, customization page, gallery page, and checkout experience.

There were web designers and project managers involved in this assignment. They collaborated with me on ensuring that the overall look and feel of the design suited Chassie's standards.

As a company that's pre-launch, Chassie realized that conceptualizing what our website needed to look like was a huge challenge. RonDesign stepped right up to the plate, coming up with strong wireframes for our homepage, customization pages, and checkout experience without a hitch.

We found Rondesignlab through a freelancing website. After making a shortlist of different design and UX companies, we sent those companies a project description to see how they would respond. We liked Rondesignlab’s answer the best and gave them a smaller project. Since we were happy with their work, we began the larger project with their team.

Our key point of contact was awesome to work with. It was easy to communicate with him and he was always responsive. The whole team paid close attention to detail.
