I’m the marketing manager for Walliserkanne. It’s located in an old fourteenth-century house; there are three restaurants and a hotel.

We were doing some rebranding and needed a new website.

What was the scope of their involvement?
PopArt Studio developed our website using WordPress and did SEO work for it. We provided content, including pictures, in four languages (English, French, Italian, and German). Based on our ideas, they did the design. We then requested some changes, which they made, and they launched the site. A key feature of the platform is a complex menu. The website covers all three restaurants’ menus, each having 30–40 specific dishes.
What is the team composition?
I communicated directly with three people, but there was a total of 5–6 working on the project. This included someone doing SEO, the project manager, a designer, and a coder.

We were looking for a company to do the project, and I came across their name. My friend, who worked there previously, recommended them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
It’s very a newly launched website and with the current COVID-19 situation, restaurants and hotels aren’t open so I don’t have any statistics or metrics. As for the engagement, the process went smoothly. PopArt Studio really nailed the menu feature; its design looks great. I wouldn’t change a thing, I’m very happy. Our staff and owner really like it and have given positive feedback.

We had some meetings where we went over the design and change requests. Their team communicated with ours through Skype and email.

Externally, since we launched this website, we’ve tripled our visitor numbers over the last two and a half weeks. We’re targeting a slightly different clientele than we were with our old site– we’re attracting larger and more established companies. The domain authority of our site is 74, which is impressive.

We primarily used emails and Skype calls to communicate. They used internal project management software that they gave us access to. Their team’s communication was excellent and they were very fast in their correspondence.

Their level of professionalism was impressive. The way they communicated and explained their process was very effective. I’m not a technical person, but our correspondence about their services was easy to understand. It was concise, clear, and understandable.

They first designed a brand new theme from scratch for our new website. Then they coded all requested functionalities and features. After that they integrated a number of plugins that we needed / were using already (and also suggested some). In the end they fixed several feedbacks and set up the SEO.

From the very beginning there was a Project Leader from their side (Tomislav) who was in constant touch with us. Alongside him, they had a web designer plus one developer who both worked on our website simultaneously. The web developer left at one point and was changed by another one. In the end they used a special SEO team to polish the SEO part.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?
With the new website developed by PopArt, we now have a much more sophisticated design, more versatility and functions such as Customise Your Trip option, which allowed us to develop our business to an online football experience marketplace, a business model which we wanted to add for a while.
How was project management arranged and how effective was it?
The project started very well, the design part was done pretty quickly, and we communicated well the whole time both via email and Skype calls. Later on, more people from both sides got involved so we created a Skype chat group which worked fine. We hoped the Website would be ready by July /August, but in the end many things, details, feedbacks, and fixes popped out, so they needed more time. English was the official language, people from 3 different countries and cultures were involved on both ends combined, but we never felt that was an issue.

First of all, very positive attitude and great communication. They have a team of talented and skillful people.
Are there any areas for improvement?
We were very satisfied with the cooperation and the final outcome. If I had to give a piece of advice, that would be - try to avoid changing developers / project team members during the project (as long as it in your power). That can sometimes slow down or affect the flow of the project.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
When I worked with PopArt Studio, I was a product manager for advertising and Google Ads at Localist. It was an advertising directory and local reviews site. It’s a mix between YellowPages and Yelp.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with PopArt Studio?
We were in the process of restructuring the company. Thus, we needed to find an outsourced team to redesign our advertising platform system that serves as an online directory for advertisers. There was already a system set up, but it was not functional. We wanted a platform where advertisers and our staff could automatically upload conversion pages.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
PopArt Studio worked as a remote team. They redesigned the advertising platform with JavaScript. The end goal was to create a user-friendly platform that also allowed our staff to publish content. We provided specifications and sketches for what we wanted to achieve, but they developed the mockups and wireframes for the process. Throughout the process, we were able to change designs whenever we needed to. There were many iterations of the project.
What is the team composition?
They had a project manager and a team of developers. I was responsible for managing deliverables and tracking the timelines. We also had a technical director working with them on a day-to-day basis.
How did you come to work with PopArt Studio?
We did research on the Internet. We had a few local companies up for consideration. Everything is expensive in New Zealand, so PopArt Studio’s pricing was quite competitive compared to the local options. After analyzing the pros and cons of remote work, we had a face-to-face meeting and that sealed the deal. We just wanted to make sure that there wouldn’t be any time zone or communication issues. Their previous clients were satisfied and we liked their work portfolio, so we went for it.
How much have you invested with them?
We invested between $250,000–$300,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project started in December 2011 and lasted through 2012.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Our organization was happy with the finished product. They delivered the work on-time and on budget. It was very user-friendly and simple to use, which was the main requirement due to the resource-heavy nature of the project. Our staff and users needed to be able to input information easily, so it was successful in that respect.
How did PopArt Studio perform from a project management standpoint?
Even though it was remote work, the process was flawless. They were always responsive. Even with the 12-hour time difference, they had people on-call after hours that were available. We used Asana to manage the project.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They were very straightforward and to-the-point. Rather than just going around in circles, they were able to deliver the project without any issues. Their team was also responsive and available, which we stipulated in our service level agreements.

I’m the manager of FitnessBodyStar, a company that sells online fitness programs, meal plans, and fitness accessories. We sell e-books and multi-media content to our clients and we use a lot of backup from social media for most of the marketing and client acquisition.

We provided documentation and went to them with our idea: An online platform for PDFs, e-books, and presentations we offer. We forged a partnership and shared ideas in developing the design of our logo, branding, colors, and website. Everything was up to them to make it work and make it look good. They used WordPress for the website and WooCommerce for the webshop.
We have a platform for online assessments of your current physical form, and they helped divide that into different pages and modules and organize it. They were also involved in the designing of our e-books and video material. They’re our full partner on the development of the entire project.

We dealt directly with the project manager, their head designer (website, e-books, other offline content), and the head developer (backend).
