I’m the CEO of an app and web development company. We have approximately 20 employees, including outsourced teams.

Lasting Dynamics provides general software development services for us.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Lasting Dynamics is developing our Node.js-based API and React-based web app. These are the core components of our company’s online services. They’ve also worked on our payment platform, which is developed using a combination of React and Node.js. 

Since we’ve worked together before, they’re already familiar with our product and services. Because of that, our discovery phase has been abbreviated. Our team has given them access to our documentation. From there, we ask their opinion about the direction we should take and the resources we need. 

The team has helped us with UI/UX design work. All requirements from our product manager go to Lasting Dynamics’ dedicated designer. He designs these requirements, and then the rest of the team works on development tasks. Most of the designs are done on Figma. Since we already have our own information on users, the team understands our user base and its needs. 

The most significant piece of functionality they’ve worked on is the development of a generative AI service. Our external AI team has developed a model for this functionality and given us an AI. Lasting Dynamics and our UI designer has designed a generative AI product around the model. 

Moreover, we’re working with multiple payment processors on our payment platform. This necessitates cascading payments or smart routines. Failed transactions can be tried again on a different payment system, and the Lasting Dynamics team has worked on integrating this feature into our system.

What is the team composition?

One of my employees and I are the project managers of this collaboration. Lasting Dynamics provides a separate project manager alongside the associated team members, which include front- and backend developers, a designer, and a QA specialist. In other words, my side handles product management, and their team handles everything related to development. 

Their members’ exact assignments have been subject to occasional changes because they rotate staff. However, we work with about 10 people from their side. In case we need assistance with a particularly unusual problem, they have technical specialists on staff that they assign to help us. 

How did you come to work with Lasting Dynamics?

We began developing an online platform in 2016. Our team had to create an API and integrate various products, including mobile and web apps. Lasting Dynamics was our first outsourcing developer for this. After that, we changed and worked with other developers. We then had some issues with those developers. 

I stayed in touch with Lasting Dynamics’ CEO and was impressed with his character, sincerity, and conscientiousness. Eventually, we decided to have another go at working together. For our most recent collaboration, we considered them our leading candidate. As a result, we didn’t compare them to many other companies. Moreover, their offer was quite reasonable. As a result, we engaged them again. 

How much have you invested with them?

Our investment is around $50,000 per month or $500,000 in total.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started collaborating in December 2022, and the partnership is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We’ve gradually increased our revenue due to the improvements to our software. Moreover, we’ve had another 20%–25% increase in revenue due to the new AI product Lasting Dynamics has helped develop.  

Anecdotally, the feedback for the team’s designs has been good. People are happy to spend on our services. Most users won’t give us feedback unless things are bad, but quietly spending money on our service is one of the biggest forms of feedback we get. On top of that, we’ve received the occasional positive feedback from people who are truly happy with our products. 

How did Lasting Dynamics perform from a project management standpoint?

Our budget is fixed, so we’ve had no concerns regarding that. We’ve also had no issues regarding deadlines — Lasting Dynamics has never missed a deadline. In my experience with other developers, it takes over a couple of years for teams to miss 10%–20% of their deadlines. The Lasting Dynamics hasn’t had any issues like that. For tools, we’re using Jira and Matrix. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re reliable, and their ability to predict the necessary level of effort involved in the features they deliver has been accurate. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could offer lower development costs, but I appreciate that they’re UK-based. Some of the developers we’ve worked with have been in other locations. In those cases, development costs are lower. However, since Lasting Dynamics is in the Canary Islands, they’re doing quite well in terms of cost performance. 

Moreover, their communication can be improved. We only communicate directly with the project leads. They can also be more transparent about their design choices. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Specify the end goal of your project, and you’ll get a great result when working with Lasting Dynamics. 

On top of that, have a good commercial relationship with them. In our first collaboration, one of our issues was that we had a lot of fixed-cost projects. Consequently, there was an almost-antagonistic relationship — we as the client wanted the lowest possible cost, and they were going in the opposite direction. 

However, since we’ve switched to a fixed headcount and monthly expenditure, there’s no more administrative overhead or antagonism.

The CEO, Michael, is extremely knowledgable and is closely involved in helping set up the team, set goals, create development strategies and much more. Our company's core technology is on the hardware side, which collects enormous amount of complex neural data. We reached out to Lasting Dynamics to help solve the data processing / storage problem.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We found Lasting Dynamics by reading some reviews online that rated their contracted projects. The reviews were good, but honestly we weren't sure at the time. We all agree now that we had been lucky to hit a gold mine.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

We build a complete data storage and processing pipeline on the cloud. This eliminates significant local infrastructures that our hardware customers must set up now to store and process data. Our cloud pipeline also makes a series of complex neuroscience computation pipeline (normally requires months to years of training in programming and neuroscience to set up and run) very intuitive by clicking a few buttons from a browser. We use React on the frontend and Python / Matlab on the backend.

About 8 people. Backend, frontend, UIUX developers, as well as project manager, QA/QC.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We can now successfully handle huge dataset management on cloud. We've also built and tested a series of processing modules that are important for neuroscience research. We are now in the process of beta testing through a few potential customers.

Very clear communication. We use mostly Slack and sometimes email. I have a single point of contact for general questions and feedbacks, but I also have direct access to developers for specific inquiry. They ALWAYS respond as soon as possible, even during off business hours when urgent matters arise.

The most impressive thing is that even though this is a contracted project, they treat it as if it was their own. And because of such dedication and enthusiasm, they were able to very quickly apply their programming skills to a very unique application that requires a significant amount of outside knowledge (neuroscience) build up.

I cannot think of any.

We needed a company that would create new software for us to improve our workflow. We primarily sell services for third parties and we need to integrate the data from a sale to our partners — we have software already but it is old and needs an upgrade.

Lasting Dynamics SRL is building a custom website where we can upload information necessary for our subscription services. This product will allow all people who are a part of the company to update their data. They’re doing back- and frontend development for the website and we’re hoping to expand the scope to include mobile app development.

There is a team of seven, but we’re primarily in contact with the UI/UX designer, a project manager, a backend developer, and a frontend developer.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Lasting Dynamics SRL is still developing the software, and there aren’t any success metrics yet. However, we do know how the project will work when it is completed. For example, if I want to know how much I make in my job, there will be a verification model that I can access that allows me to see where I stand in pay and performance ratings across my field. 

How did Lasting Dynamics SRL perform from a project management standpoint?

Lasting Dynamics SRL's project management is very good. We have a weekly meeting where we talk about the project’s progress and go over the next milestones. Every two weeks, they give me a detailed report of what they have accomplished so far, often using Google Sheets. They’re very honest and will tell me if there’s a problem with hitting a milestone — there has only been one week where we were delayed. I also track requests via software they shared with me, where I can see which parts of the project are ongoing, in testing, and in review. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Previous companies I have worked with have had many issues meeting deadlines, but this was not the case with Lasting Dynamics SRL. They always try to find the best solutions for my needs and it is a pleasure working with them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Future customers should have open communication with them — they’re a great team and are very precise with their work.

I’m the VP of product development at a company that develops novel hardware for neuroscientists to do research. It's a sensor that's put into the animal brain that extracts a very complicated and large amount of data.

What challenge were you trying to address with Lasting Dynamics SRL?

For 5–6 years, we had only been working on the hardware side, and we were unable to help the customers in terms of how to organize and analyze the data. That became a challenge frequently, especially when the users weren’t familiar with the hardware and the type of data that was coming out of our technology. 

Recently, we started an initiative to build software support to look at the data side, which is very difficult for a small company because we have very few people and none of us are experienced in software. 

We had to either hire full-time or look for freelancers. After a lot of initial activity and proof of concepts (POC), we ended up deciding to make a sizable investment into hiring a freelancer to work on some prototypes. 

Currently, the majority of the neuroscience community relies on poorly maintained open-source software that they can just freely download from the Internet. The UI is usually not very user-friendly, and it’s difficult to use and install. 

Our main challenge is to build a user-friendly interface for users to use our software. This challenge is actually very difficult to communicate to a software support team because they don't deal with customers that we face daily.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Lasting Dynamics SRL created a user-friendly interface and a web browser-based application. Their specific goal was to create a dashboard that could visualize our data in a very user-friendly and appealing way.

We worked with 4–5 teammates, and each of them had partial involvement commitments to the project. There was also a team leader.

How did you come to work with Lasting Dynamics SRL?

At first, we looked at Freelancer.com because a colleague recommended it. We posted a job description on there and got more than 30 responses very quickly, and all of them seemed qualified.

We went with Lasting Dynamics SRL because their reviews were pretty good, and one of the Freelancer.com agents referred me to them directly. 

How much have you invested with them?

We spent roughly $25,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The initial part only lasted three months, from August–November 2020. We plan to launch an MVP in Q1 2021. We’re working on a different part of the application, which is why we’ve paused our collaboration with Lasting Dynamics SRL.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We had very specific milestones defined in the beginning. There were broader milestones for every month, and on a weekly basis, we had a dashboard to track the progress on very specific action items. Lasting Dynamics SRL delivered all of those on time. 

In many cases, they went beyond our expectations. Some problems came up that we didn't expect, and the team was always able and willing to solve these new issues, even though we didn't talk about them at the beginning of the contract. 

Even though we didn’t get the software in the hands of our end-users, we have 3–4 developer groups that are working on this project, and they’ve all given very positive feedback on the part that Lasting Dynamics SRL worked on.

How did Lasting Dynamics SRL perform from a project management standpoint?

Lasting Dynamics SRL’s communication was exceptional. The project was very difficult to communicate in terms of user requirements because it’s a very niche application. We used Slack and another communication tool. 

The communication was smooth, and I was able to convey an abstract idea and the team would turn around with a mockup that fit my expectations closely. 

I was actually surprised by how close they were able to get with the limited information I provided. We were inexperienced in the software development system, and they recommended a bunch of utilities to track progress and to have meetings.

Everything was extremely well-organized, and I knew exactly where to find each developer. I was able to look at not only the application where I could actually test, but also look into the source code. Even though the tools were all new to me, I felt like they were very easy and I could learn them in no time. 

The team leader committed about 2–3 hours per day, and then the rest of the team worked the remaining 5–6 hours. They were very fluid and adjusted those human resources according to the progress of the project and our requests. 

At all times, I felt like I had access to the entire team of 5–6 people, even though the contract stated that they were only partially involved at a given time. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

The fact that they understood the challenge and thought about it very hard before we started the project was impressive. They made the team composition exactly where we needed to be, and it was very fluid. 

Other potential contractors we talked to seemed to oversimplify their expectations of the project. They assumed how our project would be based on their previous experience with other projects. But Lasting Dynamics SRL’s team understood our uniqueness. 

They were able to build a team accordingly. That actually gave us the confidence to go work with them instead of others. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Because we were working with many of their members at the same time, the conference calls were a little challenging. It was hard to hear each individual talk, so maybe they could give each team member a microphone instead of having everyone use one laptop. That’s just a minor thing.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Talk to them, and make sure the team lead understands the project requirements before you start so that they can build the right team composition. Lasting Dynamics SRL has the patience to do that, which other companies don’t, so take advantage of that.

Please describe your company and your position there.

I am the CTO of a tech startup that develops solutions for fitness and nutrition. We are currently developing our first MVP and planning to launch it in the next couple of months.

For what projects/services did your company hire Lasting Dynamics SRL?

Our prototype was in need of more work than the capacity we had internally. We hired the team of Lasting Dynamics to boost the development of our mobile application and to restructure it to be more scalable and solid, thus allowing us to reach the market faster.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to reach a solid MVP: an app ready to be distributed to the public, with limited functionalities but well-polished and ready to scale.

How did you select this vendor?

We placed a project description of Freelancer.com and evaluated several proposals. Lasting Dynamics seems the best fit for us: easy communication, required skill set, reasonable pricing and a team located geographically close to us. The team was also recommended to us by Freelancer.com's internal recruiters.

Describe the project in detail.

We had a couple of calls with the team leader at Lasting Dynamics to explain the project and our needs. We wanted to add the missing features to our prototype and polish it to be ready to be distributed on iOS and Android. We provided a first but incomplete prototype built in Ionic and design mockups.

What was the team composition?

Two developers have been assigned to the project part-time, for a total of 20 hours / week. Besides them, the project has been supported by a project manager that also coordinated the communication with us.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

After the first 3 weeks, many of the missing features we requested were integrated in the app. Then, together with the team, we agreed to switch from Ionic to React Native for the larger support of external tools and to reach a better final UX. Lasting Dynamics is now taking care of this porting, progressing much faster than we could do internally.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The project manager was easy to communicate with, professional and knowledgeable. He has been the contact point between the developers and us and he was always very responsive. He provided us with estimates in time for the tasks we requested but also gave us proactive feedback on our technological stack and possible improvements.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The ease and responsiveness of communication with the company were very valuable and appreciated.

So far we have been very satisfied with the work of Lasting Dynamics.
