I am the head of development for a Salesforce partner, implementing solutions for their customers. Aside from being a primary vendor for the media industry, we have other solutions and accelerators for various business needs.

What challenge were you trying to address with Jet BI?
We were working on a revenue scheduling solution based on sales data and opportunities. Our challenge was addressing the development overflow in our pipelines. Specifically, we needed to adjust our intellectual property [IP] for a particular customer.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
We documented the functionality of our IP and sent it to Jet BI. Their team performed a full-scale implementation, including UX [user experience] design, development, and QA testing.
How did you come to work with Jet BI?
We had known Jet BI for many years but hadn't actually worked together until recently. We liked the team's level of English compared to other firms we'd used in the past, and Jet BI seemed to fit in well in terms of cultural and temperament. They were open to new ideas and collaborations. Although we had no proof of their work, we made a note of Jet BI. We gave them a test project and had a positive overall experience.

What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with Jet BI at the beginning of 2016. The workflow increased in the middle of that year. We prefer to have Jet BI's team handle certain types of work. Even though we're not as engaged, we have two ongoing projects at the moment.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?
I don't have any hard metrics at the moment, but I can say that Jet BI's overall quality of work is decent. I've used offshore firms for a long time, and when there's a misstep in these cases—on either party's side—there will be a reverberation. We may not notice that a missed requirement will turn into a big issue, but things can snowball into a disaster. This has happened with every one of our partners, including Jet BI. I've pinned this down to lack of communication from both parties. From a sound-engineering perspective, echoes and reverbs will degrade over time and distance. However, there are issues which do the opposite—they amplify as time goes on. If we're not 100% sure of expectations over the platform, the situation will get worse and worse as we progress until we address the issue.
If we're not clear, Jet BI will tend to not make educated guesses about where we should be. This is fair since they're a contractor, not a consultant. Whenever we have a lack of information, we tend to be more prescriptive in talking about business processes with customers. While we may expect the same thing from Jet BI, in reality, this is not the role they play. The team needs to have specs and know what to build. In general, Jet BI's team is very good in terms of communication. We've needed to coach them on update regularity and time logging since we noticed some discrepancies. We call issues out on a case by case basis.
How did Jet BI perform from a project management standpoint?
Jet BI hasn't been dead-on in terms of sticking to estimates; they've frequently made adjustments on deadlines. I would rather have Jet BI's team tell me what something will really take from the beginning. They are fairly decent in terms of budgets, getting work done within or under the hours allocated.
What did you find most impressive about Jet BI?
Jet BI’s team is very nimble and able to pick up projects quickly. I don't know how many other customers they have, but Jet BI is very responsive to us. The relationship is in good standing, in the sense that we treat each other like partners rather than as vendors and suppliers. Whenever we start a project with a mixed team, the work is managed by the project manager as if it was being done by one team. We give direct feedback to Jet BI's developers, treating the group as a source for staff augmentation.
Are there any areas Jet BI could improve?
Communication and improved timesheets justifying the work done are points of improvement. Since we're paying the bills, we want to know what we're paying for. Oftentimes, Jet BI's team will be less responsive and disappear without us knowing why. They've also missed meetings without notice. I was able to resolve this by contacting one of Jet BI's founders.

Usually, they are on time and also flexible. We had times we would have a deadline, and something would come up on another initiative for us. We would ask them to shift from project A to project B, with the understanding that’s going to delay project A but it’s at our direction. Our experience is that as long as we are giving Jet BI timely and accurate feedback, they will hit the deadlines.

What challenge were you trying to address with JET BI?
Our customers come to us to help them implement custom sales and marketing solutions on Salesforce. We needed to have a flexible, scalable development team because our projects don’t always come in a consistent, even flow. Sometimes, we get busier and sometimes not.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Our company scopes out the initial requirements, and then our in-house designers and developers will collaborate with JET BI’s team on designs. Sometimes, we will send drafts back to the customer or have the customer answer questions to make sure each solution is designed right. From the customer’s perspective, JET BI is an extension of our team.
As an example of our work together, one of our customers wanted to do a very customizable forecasting of revenue, so we worked with JET BI. We designed the solution. JET BI did most of the development for that, including the user interface, code, and a lot of JavaScript that would make the solution work. They’ve been developing for us predominantly in Visualforce—a custom user interface for Salesforce—Apex—a development language similar to Java—and JavaScript.
We usually work with 3 or 4 people, depending on the size of the project. This is generally the same group of people: a developer who often works with us, a business contact, a quality assurance person, and occasionally designers. We don’t necessarily talk to everybody. They take care of the project themselves and then send it over to us.
How did you come to work with JET BI?
We met with JET BI a few times and asked them to perform a couple of small projects to test the waters and make sure we would cooperate well together. I knew developers were something that I wanted to add to the team. I was talking to a couple of people, but I like JET BI and their style.
Like I said, we did some smaller projects upfront just to see how we would work together. I thought the team was very good at what it does. Everything worked quite well, so we’ve been in business for probably half a year now.
How much have you invested with JET BI?
We have spent around $60,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We began working in July 2016. The work has been consistent. I haven’t had to grow our cooperation, so they have been able to take on a consistent flow of work from us. The work is ongoing, and they are doing 2 projects for us right now.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?
I’m very hands-on, so I work with them closely. I am also a developer, so I also look at their work at the code level. They do very good quality work. They are clearly good developers, and they add value to the process. I have worked with many outsourced teams that will just do what you tell them to, and that’s the extent of what they are going to do. In the case of Andrey and his team, they add value to the process. They make good suggestions, and they're very diligent in the work they do.
How did JET BI perform from a project management standpoint?
They are very good about meeting their deadlines. They are also very good at asking questions and documenting things.
We have used Google Docs, but we are a Salesforce shop, so we use a Chatter group. They communicate to us through our portal. The frequency with which we talk depends on how much work we have going on, but it ranges anywhere from every other week to a couple of times a week. When I first asked them to take on some work, they provided me with well-detailed estimates, so it’s easy to understand what they’re going to be working on. It’s been very good.
What did you most impressive about JET BI?
They are very collaborative in the sense that I approached Andrey and said, “I would like to get a couple of your developers certified and add them to our team to expand our footprint of certified consultants.” That’s not a development task, but he said, “Okay. No problem. I’ll do that.” I was very impressed and appreciative that he would be willing to do that.

Not really. They have done everything I have asked and done it very well.

SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
JET BI focused on the Salesforce integration part of our project. They worked on customer intake process automation using Visualforce and Apex, which supported more than 50 energy-efficiency programs across the US. JET BI was responsible for rules engine implementation for complex data validation and integrity checks. They also handled the implementation of the partner community using custom Visualforce pages. This project involved integration solution architecture design, and JET BI worked with the Oracle Field Service Cloud as well as multiple in-house software solutions via REST API. JET BI helped roll out these solutions to different regions and energy efficiency programs. They also provide ongoing Salesforce development and administration support.
How did you come to work with JET BI?
We interviewed many companies throughout the world. After an exhaustive search, we decided to work on a project with JET BI. Our management and technical staff merged seamlessly, which has led to a long-term relationship.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project lasted for around 18 months. We continued to work with JET BI as other opportunities which required their input came up. We haven’t won other relevant proposals, but I continue to interact with JET BI.

Thanks to good architecture and solid testing, we moved the application to user acceptance testing on time. Those tests found almost no errors.
