For what projects/services did your company hire Innowise Group, and what were your goals?
We needed a module for generating drilling profile and dynamic probing charts for our client. This module was almost self contained so we searched for someone external to build it in parallel.
SOLUTION
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
By chance Innowise approached us just at the right moment. The decision to work with Innowise was easy as they agreed to do a small PoC (around 15 hours or work) for us to evaluate their work. Our risk was this very small.

I didn't want to introduce a new platform just for that module and asked to evaluate Typescript/Nodejs first for generating the charts and produce a PDF. This had already been confirmed in the PoC mini-project. We've set up a simple Kanban workflow in Gitlab where I specified the steps and created test scaffolds when needed. After the spec was ready the developer pulled the task and signalled when it was ready for review. The charts where generated using node-canvas and PDFs were generated with pdf-lib. Key deliverable was a node package with functions that accept the chart data as JSON and return a PDF with the generated charts.
How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
There was one developer working for us and an account/project manager.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
We couldn't have produced the module quicker ourselves, even if we had the capacity. We would have lost 3 months without external help. The code delivered was very good from the beginning. We did very few refactorings which were picked up quickly and code quality improved further.

We used Gitlab issues and Telegram groups and Google Meet calls to communicate. Both the developer and the project manager were very responsive.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
I was impressed how good the code quality was right from the beginning. What excited me the most was the little overhead our cooperation incurred. Their frequency and style of communication was to the point and never more then needed, but not less either.

Nothing really! Maybe a SEPA bank account so I can save on some fees.

The goal was not only to get the project built but also to find a reliable permanent partner for future projects with our customers who could do App and Web development.

We have a couple of potential future sofware development partners in the pipeline while we try to get a suitable pilot project for a first test-run. Innowise convinced with quick and straight-forward communication, no delays in getting the paperwork done, pragmatic approaches and also with their economic prices, which are especially important in a pilot stage.

The project is done in four stages. Three of them relevant for App development and thereby for Innowise. The first task - Stage 2 - was to use our Whitelabel App template and modify/extend it in such a way that it has all the features of the web application that was built in Stage 1 by another software partner. Key deliverable of Stage 2 is the NOTRZR App, available for public download in the Google Play store.
It's based on React Native. The planning is done with Microsoft Team Foundation Services TFS. Innowise first had to overhaul the design according to their UX/UI experience. Then to implement and link with the NOTRZR API. The whole project is based on a huge blockchain architecture and PKI infrastructure. We are currently in the testing phase of Stage 2 and are looking forward to get the App enriched with new and exciting features in Stage 3 and Stage 4.

The App has been built in an amazingly short time of just about 3 weeks and costed just a fraction of an App that is built from scratch. This is partly owed to the fact that the App was already existing as a template and all its backend components were in place, especially a generic multi-purpose Token Economy infrastructure on blockchain. The Innowise team excelled on top of this favorable starting condition and did not only deliver the App but also completed a proof of concept for the App template approach.

Project management is done internally at Innowise. That was important for us, because we don't want to manage the development team directly. Urgent issues are communicated through Microsoft Teams. Once a week we have an alignment call to go through the backlog items and get a status update.

The development team has easily familiarized themselves with our token economy operating system and its components. They have experienced people, seniors in their area of expertise are a big plus in such a project and save a lot of time.

Our event platform needs to integrate with multiple third-party systems, WordPress being one of them. We had already made a minimum viable product type of custom plugin but Innowise helped us to take the plugin to the next level. We were initially contacted by Innowise and their sales reps came to visit our office. During the introduction we found that Innowise had broad expertise in the technologies we were utilizing. In the end, we did some peer reviews from the same area and found that both skill levels and pricing was in line with the other companies. The personal touch and dedicated project manager was the deciding thing for us.

Innowise familiarized themselves with the plugin code (PHP, HTML, Javascript) and our API documentation. Then we started creating sprints with prioritized tasks and tested the milestones before creating new production versions.

Sometimes there has been some language barriers but those were quickly fixed by adding the team leader into the meetings and they then translated the necessary bits in real time to make sure everyone understands what needs to be done. Also, in the beginning we were a bit surprised by the hours spent on tasks but Innowise was quick to allow us access to their ticket system so we have view to a more detailed break down of work done.

We've had a total of 3 people workin on the project this far, a backend developer, a frontend developer and one designer. Then i also have a POC/business developer at Innowize that sees to our needs and follows up the work.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
As we work on multiple projects and functionality is added all the time we have not yet released the product to market, but innowize has for sure helped us keep the project going by delivering their tasks on time and providing great feedback for us.
Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.
We communicate daily in a SCRUM-like workflow, with the developer to developer contact. 2 weekly meetings where we discuss outcomes and deadlines. They have been coming with propsals for workflow and what has worked for them in previous projects.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
During the covid-period we had a drop in sales, Innowize were very foreseeing in this and allowed us to quickly scale down the team, even outside the contract requirements, so that was very appreciated by us.
They've shown us that they are into building long-lasting relationships, and now that we are able to scale up again we even got the same persons back on the team, and that will give us a good speed boost as they are already into the project and codebase.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
Not that I can think of.
