We began the project with Gustin Quon by rebuilding our Canadian website. From there, they moved on to overhauling and rebuilding our US site. Their team is incorporating an e-commerce platform to both versions of our site. Our internal software is built with Pronto, so Gustin Quon has been working to attach Shopify to the platforms. They also incorporated Chase as the payment provider for the site, as they’re a company we do business with.

On the digital advertising side of the project, their team helps us run seasonable SEO and SEM campaigns. They focus on different product categories to drive traffic to certain parts of the website.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Since Gustin Quon started working with us, we have seen some excellent results. We were happy with the traction and impressions generated by their first campaign. Based on the leads we got, the behavior on the site looked promising. Unfortunately, we had about a foot and a half of snow during the open-house event, so the attendance was average. Given the horrible weather, I suppose this was as good as could be expected.

Every year, we track stealth applications and compare them with recruited applications. Stealth applicants refer to those who come directly through our website, with whom we don’t have a personal point of contact. On the other hand, recruited applications are made by counselors going to recruitment centers and high schools and actively having conversations with prospective students. This is the first year we’ve had more stealth applicants than recruited ones—about 30%–40% more.

How did Gustin Quon perform from a project management standpoint?

I’m happy with the way they’ve managed the project. They have been collaborative, and we have good conversations via email and telephone.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their strongest point has been the technical side of things. Gustin Quon’s campaign metrics are far superior to those of other agencies.

They could put a bit more emphasis on the creative side. It’s the one thing that’s lacking in our relationship. However, we do have those skill sets in-house, so it hasn’t been a problem for us.

There was a high number of criminal defense lawyers in the regional area, with a high number of law school graduates entering the workforce and a low number of arrests. It was an issue of supply and demand, and it had become harder to get business. I didn’t have any advertising to the public, and wanted to attract new customers.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They provided SEO services using keywords to move the website to the first page of Google search results. We had a lengthy discussion on the scope of my work, and determined a list of keywords together that we wanted people looking in Google or other search sites to find. The bulk of the work was completed by them however.

In terms of the website, they organized the pages a little bit better but didn’t add or subtract information really. I was happy with the website as it was so they didn’t do much work there. Anytime a potential client looks at the website, I usually get a call because one of the products I sell is my vintage given my years of experience.

Overall, they assisted in the website moving up in the rankings. We have a monthly meeting where we see how we can improve, and modify the keywords as needed. They’ve kept the website steadily on the top page for any given number of keywords.

How did you come to work with Gustin Quon?

About 7–8 years ago, Kyle Gustin was referred to me. At that time, a lot of SEO companies were just starting up and we had a phone call. He said a lot of things that made sense, and didn’t try to sell me on anything but was smart about the way he wanted to go about getting the website on the first page via keywords and rise up the rankings. We went from there and there was an immediate boost within a few months. Eventually, we made it to the first page for a number of different categories and we’ve virtually stayed there since.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

As I mentioned, we’re on the top page for a number of different keywords. When a client comes into the office, I ask how they found out about the business and many of them are from organic Google searches. Their work has improved traffic to the business exponentially, and I’m thankful that we found each other.

How did Gustin Quon perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicate regularly by phone and email. I prefer to talk via phone and at the end of month we usually have a call. If there are any fixes that need to be made to the website that typically occurs via email. Communication is regular and consistent to maintain the website and the business to stay high in the rankings.

I really appreciate their continuing care; there are tweaks that we occasionally make to both the website and the keywords. We have a monthly meeting were they provide statistics and standings in terms of the number of hits on the website. They look a great number of categories that are very useful for me when looking at the business.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The fact that they delivered on what they promised; I had previously worked with 2 other SEO providers who couldn’t deliver at all, yet alone what they promised. Kyle Gustin was absolutely a man of his word, and did what he said he could do. He exceeded his expectations and he far exceeded my expectations.

No, not at all.

As long as a potential client communicates what they need, they will be met receptively by Gustin Quon with a union of ideas. It’s a service that works for almost anyone that wants to use them.

We are a home automation and alarm system company based in Winnipeg. We sell monitoring and equipment for residential and commercial locations, including contacts for doors and windows. We also provide automation services allowing customers to control lighting, thermostats, garage door openers, and anything else powered by electricity. We provide an all-encompassing system that allows people to control everything they need, whether they are at home or away. I am the head of sales and marketing for the company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Gustin Quon?

We had a number of issues. The company was looking to move forward especially with the new technology coming out, and our marketing and sales were nonexistent. The smaller, family-run company brought me in to boost it, especially in terms of technology. We had no online presence; if you Googled home automation or alarms within our city, we wouldn’t even come up. The biggest issue was that our website needed to be redone.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The first thing we addressed was to change our website entirely. They first suggested boosting the website, which we did on our own through the help of another company. Once we got it to where we wanted it, I started working closely with Gustin Quon to provide them with as much information as possible. They provided keywords they wanted us to have on the website and ways to build the website so that it would come up high for people searching for alarm systems.

They gave me general direction for the website, and I took care of it. We changed its look and layout (like drop-down tabs, for example). Everything needed to be clicked, but users can now hover, and the site contains more information. We have a lot of keywords and key phrases. I filled the site with content on home automation, alarm systems in Winnipeg and surrounding communities, and so on. The site overhaul was meant to get us to a more current look and include key terms which Gustin Quon could use in order to help us on the backend.

We have call management through which we’re able to determine where our calls are coming from, how many of them are happening organically—from the website, through direct calling or from an alternate website.

Outside of digital marketing, we also have Gustin Quon doing business reviews. We sat down with them last Monday and developed what’s called a “strategic innovation session”. The purpose of it is strategic planning, understanding our innovative opportunities, and identifying strategic themes which align with our vision. We plan and execute how we’re going to hit future growth. Gustin Quon wants to see us succeed. We’ve sat with them and gone over where we’re failing or not doing well and where we’re succeeding. We’ve outlined everything and are starting to move toward a strategic plan.

They have a number of services, some of which we’re going to look at in 2018, including chatbots and reputation management, which is the next service we’d like for them to provide. Right now, we’re still at a basic level.

What is the team composition?

I work with a project manager from their side with whom I deal directly unless I need something else. I know their team and CEO and visit them often.

How did you come to work with Gustin Quon?

I had a good experience with them at my previous job. My first thought was to look at Gustin Quon, especially given the success I’d seen come from them. I originally learned about them because one of my best friends started working for the company. He suggested that the company I was with at the time should consider SEO. I went to him to see what they could do, and he laid out a platform which would have been perfect for my company at the time. I left that company a year later, and, once I was in a role with more control, I immediately went to Gustin Quon. We onboarded them, and I haven’t looked back. They did some background work starting with February, and we fully committed in June.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Once Gustin Quon started working and showed us our changes in ratings and our Google positioning, I realized the huge benefit of their work. There’s still a lot of work to do, mostly on our end, but we’ve become very busy since Gustin Quon’s contribution started to catch fire. From what I’ve seen, we’ve had a huge increase. When their work was finally established and implemented, I fielded 10–15 new calls per day. Over the 20 years that we’ve been operating in Winnipeg, October and November 2017 were our two biggest months. Based on our sales calls, I attribute most of this to people finding us online. Ninety-five percent of them say that they Googled the top company in Winnipeg, and our company came up with amazing reviews.

For the month of November, we had a net increase of 333 positions over Google organic search, 38 positions over Google Maps. We increased by two positions in Google for the search phrase “Winnipeg home security app” and are now in the first position. Seventy-seven percent of our traffic comes from organic search and SEO efforts, and 73.6% of our website traffic is made up of new visitors as a result of Gustin Quon’s work, and there were 121 conversions this month.

How did Gustin Quon perform from a project management standpoint?

My account manager provides updates every two weeks by phone and monthly by email. I also visit them once a month. Their numbers are accurate, and they continue to keep tabs on things. The updates they’ve given us show a net increase of our positioning of key terms and phrases, the number one key term of the month, the source of the traffic (organic or as a result of their work), and who phoned us and at what time and if we answered the phone or not. They follow up on those reports and go over every detail. My account manager is very good at what he does, so, whenever I need something, I can go directly to him. If he’s on vacation, it’s easy for me to get in touch with anyone else.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I haven’t used other digital marketing companies, but I’ve worked with some. The professionalism of their company is second to none. I don’t know of any other group which follows up, keeps tabs, and continues to work with the client like Gustin Quon does. The communication is incredible; they know what we need, when we need it, and how we need it. I talk to one of their people on a weekly basis about new services that they think would work well for us. The only thing stopping us from spending everything we have on their services is that we don’t have a lot of income. If the budget allowed for it, I would use it on everything we could with Gustin Quon.

Are there any areas they could improve?

So far, I’ve been beyond pleased. It’s been one of the better business relationships I’ve ever had.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Start small, listen to the team, be patient, and wait for the results. The results will come. The more the client spreads out how they work with Gustin Quon, the better. If the company has the budget and can spot a potential revenue increase because of the work, I recommend them. Smaller companies might not benefit as much unless they are looking to grow instantly and have the investment backing for it.

What Gustin Quon does is intangible, and it may not be something many people are ready for, but the results are clear as day. It’s a matter of how marketing and the world of digital media are going. Getting on board now is a phenomenal idea.

They helped redesign the website, and continually update it as needed. They are responsible for SEO and helped the website rise in the Google rankings. They've done a great job of building up my web presence, and redesigning the site to get several more leads per month than before their services. It varies from month to month, but even on the months where the website doesn’t perform as well the results are still far better than when I was doing the marketing work on my own. It’s all been an improvement. They’ve been very easy to work with and responsive to each of my requests.

The quality of the work has been good as well. They will update the content on the website if I do a TV interview, and I’ll send over a link and they’ll post that. We don’t have a blog, but they will post news or when the business is in the media.

How did Gustin Quon perform from a project management standpoint?

They've been tremendous. They were always very responsive to my needs, as well as attentive to any concerns that might come up. We have about regularly scheduled conference calls each year, with the next being in a week.

Communication has clear, even with working with so many different individuals there’s a great deal of overlap. There was a bit of confusion with 1 employee who didn’t last very long, but once they were removed from the team things became smooth again.

We have only been in operation for four years, so about two years ago, when the business truly began to expand, I started looking for ways to grow the company other than by word of mouth.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our work with them has been fairly limited to this point; so far, they have primarily spearheaded a Google AdWords campaign and begun to overhaul our website. My main concern was that I was at least getting a return on my investment in their PPC services, but I otherwise left everything up to them. Their predominant focus was to bring more eyes to our website, as well as provide some limited call tracking services. They kept me up-to-date on the numbers and adjusted the campaign as necessary. The website overhaul is new, and came about when they noticed that the site was fairly basic. That work was not extensive, and I don’t believe they charged me any additional fees for it, although it is still in the very early stages. From their perspective, improving the website was a way for them to optimize the performance of their campaigns.

With the campaign work that they have provided us so far, we have seen between 300 to 400 percent returns, and that was with the original website. That increase in our business is definitely due to their advertising work.

How did Gustin Quon perform from a project management standpoint?

Our work is seasonal, but when we are in operation, every month they would touch base and give me an overview of the analytics, including the tracked incoming calls and emails. I would contact them around twice a month on average, just to check in, receive the analytics, and arrange for adjustments as necessary. Once they received my input, they would make any changes and go from there. They kept me informed throughout the whole process, and their level of service has been great. I have never had trouble getting a hold of them.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I do not have much to compare them to, but I felt that their level of service was really great. They were transparent with what they were doing and prioritized getting my input, making sure that I was on board with the campaigns as they adapted them. As a client, I felt like I was valued by them and that I was welcome to check in with them at any time. I have been happy enough with the results so far that I have not felt the need to shop around.

One thing I would have appreciated was more time with the individual campaigns, to get a better feel for what kind of long-term results should be expected.
