What was the scope of their involvement?

Their efforts were split between web development and marketing. On the development side, they’ve fixed several existing widgets issues we were having and advised us against doing a complete rebuild. The latter suggestion was invaluable, as it would have been a costly, ultimately, unnecessary undertaking. They also made changes to our contact form to ensure we received strong leads.

Regarding marketing, they do SEO and PPC. Their organic efforts have focused on rewording text on our site to attract the correct type of clients (we used to receive lots of calls about medical malpractice, while we only handle legal malpractice) and targeting specific keywords.

I work in the marketing department of a Christian university.

What challenge were you trying to address with Gustin Quon?

We wanted to boost general brand awareness and increase student enrollment.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Originally, we contacted Gustin Quon to promote an open-house event we had in the spring. We were looking to drive traffic to those pages and attract people to the event.

Since then, they’ve helped us with a couple of other campaigns, including promoting some under-enrolled programs and booking new audiences for our product using Google AdWords and other online tools. They also have their own portal that provides a synopsis of what’s going on.

What is the team composition?

We have an account manager on their side, whom I believe reports to Chris (Account Director, Gustin Quon). We’ve had conversations with both of them.

How did you come to work with Gustin Quon?

I have a friend who works for them; that’s how we got in touch. Initially, we tried out another company, but we weren’t very happy with them. Based on our research, Gustin Quon was second on our list, so we opted to go with them for more advertising.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Gustin Quon in January 2018. We’ve signed a slightly larger contract with them that will carry us through until next year. After that, we will review January and February to see where we stand.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Since Gustin Quon started working with us, we have seen some excellent results. We were happy with the traction and impressions generated by their first campaign. Based on the leads we got, the behavior on the site looked promising. Unfortunately, we had about a foot and a half of snow during the open-house event, so the attendance was average. Given the horrible weather, I suppose this was as good as could be expected.

Every year, we track stealth applications and compare them with recruited applications. Stealth applicants refer to those who come directly through our website, with whom we don’t have a personal point of contact. On the other hand, recruited applications are made by counselors going to recruitment centers and high schools and actively having conversations with prospective students. This is the first year we’ve had more stealth applicants than recruited ones—about 30%–40% more.

How did Gustin Quon perform from a project management standpoint?

I’m happy with the way they’ve managed the project. They have been collaborative, and we have good conversations via email and telephone.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their strongest point has been the technical side of things. Gustin Quon’s campaign metrics are far superior to those of other agencies.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could put a bit more emphasis on the creative side. It’s the one thing that’s lacking in our relationship. However, we do have those skill sets in-house, so it hasn’t been a problem for us.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

It’s always good to set expectations from the onset and ensure that everyone’s on the same page. This goes for any vendor.

Gustin Quon assists with SEO, our site's design, performance and functionality, and other digital marketing efforts.

Our partnership started with local and national SEO, and it’s grown from there. Now, they help with analytics, call tracking, and PPC campaigns. They make sure we’re going in the right direction and have the most efficient campaign possible in terms of our spend and reach.

They helped set up and properly track all of our digital marketing efforts coming into the firm through phone calls, email conversions, Google Analytics, etc. Together, we’ve worked on strategies and ideas for implementing social media and other digital advertising media.

What challenge were you trying to address with Gustin Quon.

There was a high number of criminal defense lawyers in the regional area, with a high number of law school graduates entering the workforce and a low number of arrests. It was an issue of supply and demand, and it had become harder to get business. I didn’t have any advertising to the public, and wanted to attract new customers.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They provided SEO services using keywords to move the website to the first page of Google search results. We had a lengthy discussion on the scope of my work, and determined a list of keywords together that we wanted people looking in Google or other search sites to find. The bulk of the work was completed by them however.

In terms of the website, they organized the pages a little bit better but didn’t add or subtract information really. I was happy with the website as it was so they didn’t do much work there. Anytime a potential client looks at the website, I usually get a call because one of the products I sell is my vintage given my years of experience.

Overall, they assisted in the website moving up in the rankings. We have a monthly meeting where we see how we can improve, and modify the keywords as needed. They’ve kept the website steadily on the top page for any given number of keywords.

I worked with Kyle Gustin [President, Gustin Quon] and he is the only person at the firm I work with.

How did you come to work with Gustin Quon?

About 7–8 years ago, Kyle Gustin was referred to me. At that time, a lot of SEO companies were just starting up and we had a phone call. He said a lot of things that made sense, and didn’t try to sell me on anything but was smart about the way he wanted to go about getting the website on the first page via keywords and rise up the rankings. We went from there and there was an immediate boost within a few months. Eventually, we made it to the first page for a number of different categories and we’ve virtually stayed there since.

We began working together in October 2013, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

As I mentioned, we’re on the top page for a number of different keywords. When a client comes into the office, I ask how they found out about the business and many of them are from organic Google searches. Their work has improved traffic to the business exponentially, and I’m thankful that we found each other.

How did Gustin Quon perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicate regularly by phone and email. I prefer to talk via phone and at the end of month we usually have a call. If there are any fixes that need to be made to the website that typically occurs via email. Communication is regular and consistent to maintain the website and the business to stay high in the rankings.

I really appreciate their continuing care; there are tweaks that we occasionally make to both the website and the keywords. We have a monthly meeting were they provide statistics and standings in terms of the number of hits on the website. They look a great number of categories that are very useful for me when looking at the business.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The fact that they delivered on what they promised; I had previously worked with 2 other SEO providers who couldn’t deliver at all, yet alone what they promised. Kyle Gustin was absolutely a man of his word, and did what he said he could do. He exceeded his expectations and he far exceeded my expectations.

No, not at all.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

As long as a potential client communicates what they need, they will be met receptively by Gustin Quon with a union of ideas. It’s a service that works for almost anyone that wants to use them.
