Martha and Pierce were incredible to work with.  They are creative, efficient, collaborative, great listeners, and were very responsive to our communications.  Martha did a great job of conveying from the beginning how the process would flow, so we understood our role in keeping things moving forward.  Pierce had no shortage of clever ideas and could easily spin new options on the spot during our calls.  He was equally receptive when we shared our own ideas and suggestions.  As a team, their dedication to this project, and our satisfaction, was always evident.

Having worked in market research, I'm a big fan of completing surveys and giving feedback.  But this form put a lot of work on me and the others you ask to complete it.  I suggest, instead, sending an exit survey that has the project info already entered into it. You already know what services were provided for this project, and I probably won't do as good a job of remembering everthing, to be able to list it in this review.  I've been pulling up the bid form, the SOW, the deliverables, to do a good job on completing this because I know that customer reviews are important.  But I've had to come and go from this form over two days because I don't have time to search for everything it is asking, in one sitting.  Just want to share the experience from the customer/user side.  Others would have dropped out because it's too time-consuming, which isn't what you want.

The Epipheo team provided excellent project management—true partners. I've worked with at least 50 different agencies over the years, and this team is one of the most communicative and constructive. Even when faced with difficult deadlines or stretch goals, they always put in their best effort to meet them. When that wasn't possible, they were transparent about the challenges and took ownership in a way that always showed integrity, and respected the trust I placed in them.

Epipheo can create many different forms of video content, from live production to animation. Their team can also work asynchronously across time zones, which is particularly useful when the client is a distributed company and the primary contact is in New Zealand.

There were a few (urgent) projects where costs ballooned and more communication could have improved the outcome, but hindsight is 20/20, and these were outliers.

For such a long and involved project with such a tight deadlines, project management was arguably the most critical aspect of this project being successful, and working with Erin was exactly what we needed. We built a robust calendar of all deliverables at each stage of the production process from initial scripts to storyboard to each revision cycle, and we also tracked all of the review calls for each. 
We probably had over 30 Zoom meetings together with a group of 4-6 very busy people, but everyone went as smoothly as they could have due to great project management.

They were amazingly easy to work with, on time with each milestone, delivered amazing results, the project management was stellar--these were all things that we thought they would be capable of when we evaluated them. Pierce could come work for our company with all quickly and thouroughly he mastered our messaging. They were all so invested in the work we were doing together--we couldn't imagine having the same results with anyone else.

I was worried about coming up with the entire storyline myself, given that I didn't expect them to know much about my industry (agriculture). They're extremely creative, professional, and very skilled in what they do. I actually had a desire to work with Epipheo for years. They're not going to be the cheapest, but they're the best if you ask me ... and you get what you pay for. We're doing another live action with them this year, and we'll continue to work with Epipheo, and only Epipheo, moving forward.

I am the CEO of iMFLUX, a company of innovators transforming the future of plastic injection molding. iMFLUX is the only company that integrates breakthrough processing software and machine learning with a mold building and innovation center.

For what projects/services did your company hire Epipheo, and what were your goals?

The iMFLUX technology transforms how an injection molding machine operates - but there is no way to actually show a customer what happens inside of a machine and mold when iMFLUX is used. Our goal was tell our story with a branding video and bring to life the technology transformations in the machine in 60-second technical videos.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We looked for local video production companies who specialized in 3D animation and could tell our story in a way that fit with our brand. We were impressed with Epipheo's body of work, found them to be high engaging and interested in what we were challenging them to do.

Describe the video(s) and the process in detail, including the project steps and all stages of production.

We described our vision and aligned on the themes for four 60-second videos (Branding, Technology, Sustainability, and Advanced Technology). We invited the Epipheo team to tour our facility, meet our iMFLUX organization, get immersed in the brand, and capture video footage. We used story boards to align on scripts and concepts, selected a voice over and music, then worked through draft and final videos. Given the video footage was done early before we aligned on story boards and visuals, we ended up needing to provide our own video and photos to augment the content that the Epipheo team had captured.

Who did you work with and what was the feedback process like?

We had regular meetings with Martha (Account Manager), Bitsy (Sr. Art Director), and Rachel (Creative Director). We would review each stage of work, consolidate our feedback with our internal program manager, then use 30-minute meetings to communicate feedback and brainstorm any adjustments needed. We both learned and evolved into this process.....we got better and more efficient at providing feedback and they got better at delivering content and visuals that met our needs.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We have prominently displayed all 4 videos on our website and are actively using them with customers, at trade shows, during webinars and talks, and in meetings. We consistently get feedback that these videos tell our story in a compelling way and communicate what our technology does succinctly. Our Sales team believes our videos are helping customers understand what we are selling faster.

Outside of the team's initial visit, 100% of meetings were via Microsoft Teams. The team was highly engaging and easily reachable, and the project manager kept the work on track. The process felt personal - focused on delivering great content, not focused on hitting dates/gates.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The Epipheo team took the time to learn about injection molding, what was unique about the iMFLUX process, and respected our desire to animate without a cartoony look and feel. While I expect there were others in the background manages pieces of work, the customer-facing team was right-sized for us.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

We would have loved to meet in person but working via Teams was efficient and effective and probably moved us along more quickly. The video footage which Epipheo during their initial visit proved to be insufficient as we has not yet aligned on storyboard, content, and visuals. That work may have occurred too early in the process so we needed to provide an additional photo and video footage. It worked but I might address this a little differently in the future.

How did Epipheo perform from a project management standpoint?

There was an opportunity to improve Epipheo’s project management. There had been a failure on their part to communicate points where we ran out of budget. Nonetheless, the project was completed, but their project management, communication, and timeliness weren’t perfect. We collaborated through Google Meet, Slack, and email. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

We were impressed with Epipheo’s portfolio, team size, and ability to do high-end animation.

They could improve their project management, communication, and cost control.

Spend as much time on storyboarding and ensure it’s exactly how you want the video to be. In addition, make sure that Ephipheo is communicating the budget and their project status regularly.

I work for an AI company that creates software to help businesses make forward-looking decisions based on macro trends and context, meaning they won’t be acting purely on historical data.

I’m the director of growth strategy, so I help our company look for new applications across industries of our technology to identify product development opportunities. I then inform our product team of modifications that are required.

What challenge were you trying to address with Epipheo?

We were looking to produce a 75-second video that describes what we do in a visual, and easy-to-remember way. The goal was to share the video on social media.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Epihpheo helped us put together both the narrative and the visuals. To start, we had a kick-off call with their account manager and project manager to help them understand the scope of what we were trying to achieve. Then, they introduced us to a writer and visual editor who put together a plan for what we wanted to create.

Within Google Slides, they embedded links to videos that they voiced, reporting what they’d been creating so we would understand without having to hop onto a call every time. They also created voting polls so that we could fix the voiceover how we wanted. Then, they would share the video again through links and we’d give feedback on Google Docs.

For the script work, we gave them the trigger words we wanted each individual in the script to focus on. For the visual style, we said that we didn’t want it to look like a cartoon, but to be engaging and cutting-edge. We also gave them our branding kit, which they leveraged into a storyboard and then sketches, before landing on the fully fleshed out set of visuals.

The film was only animated. No stock photos or videos or any filming. Epipheo also handled the editing and audio mixing, music, and voiceover. The video has been delivered and we're finishing up the engagement. 

What is the team composition?

We were working with an account manager initially, and then they handed us off to their full team. The account manager came back in to wrap things up as well. We also worked with a visual editor and a script editor.

How did you come to work with Epipheo?

My colleague and I were doing a Google Search, and she highlighted her top three choices, including Epipheo. After having conversations with them, it was clear that Epipheo was highly professional and had a deep, immediate understanding of what we were looking for. They also seemed to be flexible in terms of timing and moving quickly for us.

We were confident that they would be able to take what we gave them and make something good out of it.

We’ve spent around $30,000, which includes a rush fee for delivering the project within five weeks.

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been working together since April 2022.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We haven’t published the video yet, so I can get back to you with metrics, but it was just incredibly easy to work with them. They truly understood what we were looking for and were very flexible in taking our feedback, but also challenge our thinking when necessary to ensure we would make the best decision for the video based on their experience.

How did Epipheo perform from a project management standpoint?

We used a mix of shared Google Slides to collaborate. They provide very clear communication and always set expectations upfront. As the project evolves, they update their expectations accordingly and communicate the project plan. Most of the changes were driven by us.

We didn’t use any management tools, as the project was fairly short and linear. We shared PDFs of a calendar and then used Slack for communication and decision making.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I haven’t worked with a lot of other providers, but it was very easy to work with Epipheo. They only took one meeting to understand what we wanted and then were able to help us put together the visual animation and the scripts. They have good listening skills and created something very high-quality out of what we gave them.

There was one point where we went back and forth a little bit on some details, but they were very open to both understanding what we were looking for and providing their own expertise. They were very professional.

Are there any areas they could improve?

This is probably a business decision on their end, but they suggested an animation story in the beginning, and maybe there was another one we would have liked more. They could have invested more time upfront in showing us options that we could pick between.

It is probably more expensive to create two themes and stories, but it would have been nice to have that choice before moving forward.

I’m a senior security analyst for the Information Security department of a large pharmaceutical company. We manufacture drugs in and outside the US and have about 3,000 employees.

What challenge were you trying to address with Epipheo?

We needed help with video production.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Epipheo did three animated two-and-a-half-minute videos, and they revamped our animation and created a new, updated, and colorful character that represented security in the company. The character allowed us to engage with the audience to explain security topics to all employees. It was an old black-and-white character, and they created a new image for it.

They also developed the scripts for the three videos in a rushed timeline. Additionally, Epipheo did the voiceover and provided different options. Then, they did the music and translations to seven other languages. It was a big internal project.

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked directly with four people: the creative director, animator, sales account person, and the project manager, who is our point of contact. We don’t know the team that works on the video, but we’re sure they have many people working on that.

How did you come to work with Epipheo?

We were looking for a production company, so we researched online. We usually go internal, but it turned out that it was cheaper and better quality to outsource the project. We came down to three options, which were the best reviewed online. Then, we did a leading process and met with all the companies. Since day one, Epipheo felt like it was the one we should go with.

How much have you invested with them?

This new project is around $190,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began our partnership in June 2021, and it’s ongoing. We just signed another contract to do three videos for the spring.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We launched the videos in October 2021 and had a cybersecurity awareness campaign for a month. We did it through SharePoint, workshops, and webinars and got feedback from surveys. Everyone loved the new image and topics we brought forward to increase awareness to the company; all the feedback around the videos was very positive. Also, we uploaded the videos and are able to see how many people view and open them, and we’ve been those metrics increase over the months.

In the end, there’ll always be challenges, but Epipheo’s team is really on top of the timelines. At some point, they estimated the cost, and even though they made a mistake, they didn’t increase it. Also, they’re very creative. Security isn’t a fun topic, and they incorporated real-life scenarios that we haven’t thought of before.

Overall, it’s easy to work with them. They go above and beyond to ensure we’re happy, and we have a good professional relationship. Oherwise, we wouldn’t have engaged with them again.

How did Epipheo perform from a project management standpoint?

They do really well. At the beginning, they sent a competition plan that was two months over our deadline. We were going crazy, but they made adjustments and changed their review cycles to make it work. In the end, they submitted every video in the day they’d say without complaints.

We do a little bit of everything to communicate with them, but we mostly use email. When we have ongoing project, we do a weekly call over Zoom or Google Meets.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re passionate about what they do. Some people do a good job and deliver, but we don’t see that passion anywhere. Everyone in the team loves their jobs, and it makes such a difference.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We didn’t have any issues with communication, but they need to be a bit more organized. However, we all have hiccups along the way, and it was a minor issue.

When you’re working with a big company, make sure that your deadlines are clear in the contract.

The challenge we were trying to address was twofold. We wanted to differentiate ourselves from competitors but we also needed to articulate our business in a way that is concise and not overly exhaustive to describe. A lot of people don’t know what we do or that we even exist, and they usually don’t even need our services until something unfortunate happens to them. 

Epipeho’s goal was to develop a message that communicates what we do in a very succinct way.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Epipheo produced a series of three videos for us. It was a lengthy process that began with them trying to learn about our business. Again, what we do is not widely known, so we expected to spend a decent amount of time educating them on our services. 

After the initial phase, we came up with a strategy to focus on one video at a time. We got the ball rolling with the flagship video. We developed a script, did a lot of back-and-forths to nail it down, then proceeded to do the storyboard before moving into production. 

What is the team composition?

We dealt with two specific individuals — the creative director and the production animator — on a day-to-day basis, but there were others who were involved in the background.

How did you come to work with Epipheo?

We did a bit of Google research, came up with a list of agencies, and narrowed it down based on the online portfolios that we saw. We actually engaged with one of Epipheo’s competitors first. About a month in, however, we got the sense that we weren't on the same page from a creative and strategic perspective. We terminated that agreement and went with Epipheo.

It's hard to speak to the impact of their work because, though we've been in business for almost four years now, we don't have a website yet. We simply don't have a need for it; all of our leads are referral-based. However, we’re now in the process of developing one since the video series is out of the way. We do have the videos up on YouTube and we share them with people who are vetting us as potential service providers. 

What I think this video series has done for us is answer questions with the limited information we have out there right now. Our competitors don’t have videos like these, and it helps us create instant credibility. Whether it’s the 15-second version or the two-minute version that we send, potential clients are immediately assured that they’re talking to the right people. 

How did Epipheo perform from a project management standpoint?

What I really liked about working with Epipheo was that every time we spoke through video conference or email, they let us know what to expect and when. I found that extremely helpful. Editing the graphics of a video was an extremely long process, but we got through every step knowing where we were in terms of the timing. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They had the flexibility to get on the right mindset, which was important, but Epihpeo’s creativity was, no doubt, what we really needed after the previous engagement. They came up with stuff we just never would have thought of and found a creative way to present our business. The message was very clear and, frankly, a little entertaining, which is what we were shooting for. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I’m a person who loves to meet with our partners but the COVID-19 pandemic didn't allow that. I hope to get the chance to brainstorm with Epipheo in person when we work with them again.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If you think you can just fill out a questionnaire or send Epipheo to your website to get an awesome video, then you’re misunderstanding the process. It helps to invest a lot of time in letting them learn your business. Don’t take shortcuts because the little nuances and specific details are really important.
