I’m a performance marketing manager at Smarkets, a financial betting exchange platform where users can bet and trade markets on sports, politics, and current affairs. We’ve been running primarily in the UK since 2010, but we also have some European and US jurisdictions.

I focus on user growth for the two main products of the business: the betting exchange and software development kit sports betting apps. I also do some work on marketing, tech, and attribution.

We needed help with organic growth. Even though we focused on user growth through PPC, we wanted to continue to grow our organic presence and optimize our app stores.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

ConsultMyApp provides advertising and marketing services. We initially provided them with a brief of what we were looking to do and who our company was. Then, they provided us with a proposal of what they could do and a roadmap. Once we were happy with it, we signed the paperwork and began our partnership.

We’ve leaned heavily on ConsultMyApp or advice, liaising between their recommendations and the tech teams we need to implement them. They also ensure we’re up to date with the latest trends in our industry so we can rank well on the search results.

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked regularly with four teammates, but there have been 6–8 people working on the account in total. We mainly deal with the project manager and his second-in-command.

How did you come to work with ConsultMyApp (CMA)?

A previous marketing lead worked with ConsultMyApp; he made the initial reach-out. ConsultMyApp was well-placed to provide expert consultation to help us improve what we were doing at the time.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent between $50,000–$100,000. We pay a monthly retainer.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in November 2021, and our relationship is ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve been really happy with their work. ConsultMyApp is great at creating content to help us with our search rankings. We’ve seen significant improvements in our organic rankings for high-level search terms within our industry. Also, ConsultMyApp has helped us improve our app store ratings. When we started with them, our score was around 3.6 on the App Store and 3.4 on Google Play Store; we’re now sitting on 4.6 and 4.2, respectively. Overall, we’ve also gotten great feedback from our customers.

How did ConsultMyApp (CMA) perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve delivered the work on time. In particular, the project manager has been available almost every hour of the day, even at times when we don’t request him to be on hand. Moreover, the team is very amenable to any changes we need. Since our industry is heavily regulated, we need to ensure that messages are conveyed in a certain way to stay legally compliant. Our industry is also event-driven, so it’s important to touch base and update the events that affect our business as the year goes on. All in all, ConsultMyApp is great at keeping us up to date with that.

Additionally, we regularly engage in conversations through internal messaging and have biweekly meetings to hear updates on their work. They’re also based in London, so we’re fortunate enough to meet them in person as well.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have an excellent team environment. ConsultMyApp is motivated to work, collaborative, and hospitable. They’ve invited us to meet their team, even the ones who aren’t directly on our account. Also, it’s easy to get along with them, and we’ve maintained a great work relationship.

Ultimately, ConsultMyApp keeps on the ball with the ever-changing industry, which is challenging. They stay on top of the information and understand at a deep level how to navigate everything to get the best out of what they’re doing.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They should ensure that things are airtight when it comes to our industry and offering. There have been times when ConsultMyApp has needed to improve on some final checks regarding briefings and other things of that nature. However, it might be because they’ve had to learn on the go about our industry to understand its nuances. It’s tough to get used to that, and ConsultMyApp has improved over time; although there’s still room for improvement.

Make sure your needs align with their specific needs; they’re more focused on marketing.

CMA developed a one-stop-shop Android and iOS app from scratch. Within the app, users can select their congregation and see contact information and the services offered. Additionally, information like news, where to donate, podcasts, and live feeds are all available. 

First, we had a startup meeting, and we continued with scrum meetings throughout the process. We collaborated with CMA to define the wireframes. From there, they did the development work, including optimization for the App Store and the Google Play Store. It was really smooth. They took care of everything. It was quite easy for us to relax and take advantage of the fact that they were really good at doing the project management side of things. They were setting deadlines and took care of scheduling all the activities to get where we wanted to get. It was quite comfortable for us to be guided by them. We set the goals, but then they were the ones that ensured that we had the best possible metadata, keywords, and whatever makes the app perform better.

They were also good at managing all the stakeholders within our company. For example, we have to closely work with the product team. They had to take care of the app build and we can only do an app release when the build is ready, and this comes from the product team. The agency was liaising with them to understand when we were about to have a new app release and made sure that they were ready by then with the up to date metadata.

To show their results, they presented them through a tool that they had developed. This platform allowed us to understand how our visibility has changed over time, but it might not be as transparent to the customer how this tool that they have created delivers specific metrics. Sometimes when you have a session with them reviewing the data, it might be unclear as a customer whether they really achieved something or if it something they see in their tool. Beyond that, they also told us the number of organic installs we’ve achieved in that period. In the end, it is not a problem. We can see the results.

What did you find most impressive about them?

One thing which is very good is the fact that they are extremely proactive. They really care about our brand and our app. For instance, they reach out to us whenever there is something that needs to be changed, fixed, or improved without having to chase them. Many times, it was them telling me that we need to change something because of an update of Apple’s side or Google side. They were able to share any relevant updates with us, so we were ahead of the curve before any issue came up.

We hired CMA to manage all of our App Store Optimization. From managing keywords and metadata to App Store rating strategy, we relied on CMA to increase our App Store Rankings to ultimately convert new users into WinView Games players.

Industry experience and amazing referrals from industry veterans in the gaming space were the primary reasons we hired CMA for our App Store Optimization.

CMA provided Mobile Marketing services to WinView Games across the iOS version of their mobile App, in order to maximize search rankings, visibility, organic & paid traffic and view-to-install conversion rates in the US App Store. This work ultimately delivered increased downloads, registrations and active paying players.

Roughly 7 people from the CMA team were dedicated to our project. From account managers to PPC specialists and designers, we had the full range of services from CMA dedicated to our brand.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We increased our ranking so much so that we became the Top 200 sports apps within the App Store. We also increased our App Store Rating to 4.0 from 3.7, which was crucial in getting new users' trust to download our app and deposit funds to becoming paying users.

CMA is very attentive and has a dedicated team of account managers available almost 24/7, even with 5 - 8 hour time zone differences amongst our team. From Slack to Zoom, we had many different channels to communicate with CMA whenever we needed their assistance.

Their PPC experience is unmatched. The way they strategically choose keywords for metadata to match up with the competition is remarkable. Their strategy and consulting experience proved enormously successful for us reaching our KPI's.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Honestly, none. They exceeded our expectations and more. I will be working with CMA for as long as mobile marketing is needed for any brands I work with.
