We are a small business, manufacturing portable solar panels, in various sizes, all the way up to a 6,000 Watt trailer unit. We ship all over the United States.

I'm the owner of the company.

What business challenge were you trying to address with Boostability?

Most of my business is done through the website. I wanted to improve its ranking and get better visibility. I built my own website, so I know a bit about the development side but not SEO and optimization strategy and execution. I don't have the time to learn, so I hired Boostability.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their involvement in greater detail.

I gave them access to my website and allowed them to make changes. To be honest, I have no idea what they actually do behind the scenes. Like I said, I don't have the time to learn about SEO and do it myself. They do a good job though because I've been busy with new business and potential customers. SEO is an arcane discipline to me, so I’m not sure if they are providing more than other agencies could or what my return on investment is. I strongly feel that I’m getting fantastic value.

I do use AdWords, but with Boostability, I'm looking to improve my overall organic SEO rankings. I'm ambivalent about AdWords. It's like paying rent: once you stop paying money, the clicks also stop. With Boostability, I'm looking for a more residual result: rankings would carry through and maintain momentum even after the optimization work ends.

How did you come to work with Boostability?

It seems like everyone and their uncle is doing SEO. I get calls from India, Pakistan, Mongolia, and so on. They guarantee first place in Google rankings, which of course no one can do.

Boostability didn't contact me, which I consider a plus. I don’t like all of the SEO agencies that cold call me. I did a web search, and their company came up. They weren't at the front of the list, but maybe in the top eight.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

I pay $200 a month for Boostability’s services, and another $200 for AdWords.

What is the status of this engagement?

We've been working together for close to one year. I don’t remember exactly when but I believe we started in late 2014.

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

This summer was very busy with new business calling and emailing. Typically, it slows down during December, with the holiday season. I am welcoming the break, as I'm burned out from the added business. I just filled a contract for the government, for a number of units, and right now I'm kicking back and enjoying the slow period.

How did Boostability perform from a project management standpoint?

They're good people to do business with, and they’re conscientious. If I have questions, they're always resolved right away. If I don't understand what they do, it's my fault, not theirs.

I'm more of an engineer than a marketer, which is why I hire these things out. I'm absolutely satisfied with Boostability’s work.

What distinguishes Boostability from other providers?

I worked with another company in India. They were decent, but weren't really what I was looking for. English is not their main language, and I'm a stickler for grammatical accuracy. That's why I switched over to an American company. Other than that, I don't have a lot of experience with this type of company.

For what I need, Boostability is very good. They don't try to take advantage of uneducated customers and sell me a bill of goods. They're truthful and honest, which is worth a lot.

Is there anything Boostability could have improved or done differently?

They tend to change their manager every five minutes. I don't personally have to fill in all the details for the new account manager when they come along, but it would be nice to be able to deal with one, consistent person. This is only a minor complaint.

The company is a commercial janitorial service in Albuquerque, N.M. We have been in business since 2006, the past couple of years I’ve taken more control of the company’s operations. We’ve been growing the business piece by piece, account by account, servicing industrial facilities, medical facilities, offices, that sort of thing.

What was your goal for working with Boostability?

My goal was to get more customers, get found, and produce new leads online. I think that a Web presence is much better value than paying for a Yellow Pages advertisement.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their work.

It’s strictly SEO [search engine optimization] work from their end. If there’s anything on our website that needs attention, we get it fixed by Boostability. They’ve been able to keep tabs on what’s going on with the website as well as some of our company profiles on other websites. That way, when the Google Penguin algorithm goes through, Google accepts our content and we get good traffic. It doesn’t reject us or put us on page 20. So that’s something they’ve helped us with too, their work provides a competitive edge.

What was your process for selecting Boostability with which to work?

Boostability cold-called us, and I told them we’d keep them in mind. I tried out another company, Sonic SEO, but they basically just blew us off. Then, Boostability called us back, and we decided to go with them. It was basically just a shot in the dark in the dark on their end, and it just took off from the first short phone conversation. They’re very nice and very friendly.

Can you provide a ballpark dollar figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

I think they provide around four to six hours a month. The cost is very competitive compared to other SEO firms. The work has been successful so the cost has been really reasonable.

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

I’ve looked at the Google Analytics reports that we had set up, and looked at our website itself. We run our website using the WordPress platform. When we first did this website before Boostability was engaged, we were not getting any traffic.

Ever since Boostability started building our online profile, and got us ranked on page 1 of the top search engine results, we’ve gone from one or two inquiries a week to about 10 to 15 leads a week. That’s really helped us grow. Out of those 10 or 15, we’re getting at least two or three calls out of it, which results in one solid lead, that leads us to get a new account. That’s been consistent growth that we’ve seen in the past couple years since we began working with Boostability.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

Just the friendliness, I can call them up and can get a hold of them whenever I need to. They’re very accessible, which I really like. I don’t like just being another number, or a drop in the hat for them. They make time to get a hold of me, and I really appreciate that. When I have questions or concerns, they’re quick to answer them.

Before we started working with Boostability, we had lost a big contract, and that was a big punch for us. Boostability came along and helped save our business. They helped us get optimized just in the nick of time, to where we get some of the who’s who of Albuquerque, [N.M.,] to call us up, go do bids for them, and sign contracts. I think that’s been one of the biggest things. They helped save our business.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or something that you might do differently?

I don’t see anything to improve upon. They always distribute newsletters about updates with Google, what to expect this year with Google algorithms, that sort of thing. Anything I’ve learned SEO-related is because of their teaching. I didn’t get anything when I signed up for a newsletter with a competing firm. With Boostability, they really understand SEO and Google’s algorithms. They’re quick to inform their customers about what to expect, what’s going to change, what we need to do as far as Google updates. So, there’s nothing to complain about with Boostability.

What was your goal for working with Boostability? 

I’ve actually engaged with Boostability on two different levels. One through Mono Solutions directly as a provider of fulfillment services and prior to that, when I was working for Barry Company, I hired them to do SEO [search engine optimization] services. Boostability, by virtue of the product or content creation work they do, is an ideal provider of fulfillment services at scale, using the Mono Solutions platform.

They are extremely good at building applicable processes to create content, to engage an end client or someone at the SMB [small and midsize business] level, and are a perfect partner for Mono Solutions both here in the U.S. as well as internationally.

We can rely on them to do a great job with building content, using the tools to populate the websites, and build the websites. Frankly, that all comes from their background in SEO, their ability to create content and structure it properly. So, their core offering, which is not necessarily fulfillment, SEO, is where they really get their best skill sets and tools from.

What was your process for selecting Boostability with which to work?

On the SEO side, I ran an exhaustive RFP [request for proposal] process. We looked at more than 150 companies, not all of which were SEO companies but a good number of them were. I had definite product requirements based on the market that I was trying to achieve, so their ability to deliver at scale and at a reasonable price was part of that. Quality assurance processes in particular were of keen interest to me. What the Boostability team has built is clearly based on doing a better job the next iteration, and they always improve. They always want to do the right thing, and they take feedback extremely well.

The initial process required looking at the 20 or so companies that we thought could potentially provide the right services, and ended up selecting Boostability. From a Mono perspective, frankly it was a no-brainer in my mind, given my experience with them previously. I know the team. I know what they’re capable of doing. I wouldn’t say I had to talk them into it, but I helped them see the opportunity. At the end, their processes, coupled with our technology and the right engagement in the marketplace was an ideal fit for a partnership.

Can you provide a ballpark dollar figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

We do not invest directly with Boostability. If we have a reseller, they may need fulfillment capabilities or fulfillment capacity. If they do, they contract directly with Boostability for that work. I want Boostability to get the credit that they deserve, and for us to get the credit we deserve, and conversely, be held accountable. So, we don’t actually pay Boostability, the reseller pays them for the fulfillment services on top of the Mono platform. So, those relationships are so variable, I’m afraid I can’t give you a good answer about the average size of projects.

It depends on how the reseller has defined a website. It could be a landing page. It could be a three-page website, a five-page website, and a 10-page website. It could have any number of configurations around number of updates or images. All their costing is based on a per-page fee, with some modifiers, and rates are extremely competitive.

What were the results of the project?

The work is ongoing. The results to date have been extremely strong.

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

What I’ll measure that on initially is beta or proof of concepts for new client acquisition. They have been extremely responsive, meeting every single deadline that’s been put on the table by either us or the end reseller. From a volume perspective, we have only a few cases right now where volume is increasing. They’re handling that easily, they have the ability to scale because of the infrastructure and the systems they use in the background. It basically feeds a designer the next task that they’re meant to do, so duplication of process is extremely easy for them to achieve. So, I’d say we’re 100 percent of expected workflow, and any other metric you’d want at this point in time.

From an SEO perspective, when I was at the Barry Company, we were selling 400 to 500 SEO programs a month with them. They had zero issues handling all of those. There were some early issues with regard to processes, but that was not their fault, it was the Barry Company’s problem.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

They have an extremely high level of ethics that frankly is exactly what you want in a business partner. I sure love working with those guys.

In fact, given the level of quality they can deliver, I’d say that nobody can even touch them. There’s nothing out there that’s at the same quality level as Boostability at the price point we’re talking about.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or something that you might do differently?

Probably not. I think they do a very good job of taking feedback through quarterly business reviews and other mechanisms. Historically they’ve been just awesome to work with, talk to, and figure things out with. So, I really wouldn’t change much of anything.

They pitched that their strategy was to get a bunch of backlinks, but I have only received one from a site that did not have a high domain authority. I would have liked more transparency on this because they did promise they would be getting a lot of high quality backlinks, but that did not happen. While I am happy with the results, it is hard to explain to my clients that this is our strategy... yet no backlinks.
