Branding & Marketing Strategy for Research Nonprofit
the project
"Trust the process; their methodology really works."

the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the executive director of the Shackleton Research Trust Corporation. We’re a nonprofit foundation that promotes educational awareness and opportunities for underrepresented minorities in science.
What challenge were you trying to address with Blackribbit?
We brought them on as a consultant to develop our marketing strategy.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Blackribbit was the key solution for our branding and marketing strategy. They looked at every facet of market analysis and what type of brand image we wanted to portray. We didn’t have a lot of these questions answered, so they walked us through a systematic process.
In the beginning, we had a name and domain, and that was it. Blackribbit built on everything that we have today on our website. They also worked on the language and made the entire brand portfolio.
What is the team composition?
We had a main point of contact and 1–2 other people working with us. They weren’t our primary contractor.
How did you come to work with Blackribbit?
They reached out via LinkedIn for another project. After talking to them for a while, we saw the project wasn’t panning out for what we were looking at, but we had another, so we went with it.
How much have you invested with them?
The total value was around $10,000 per month, so it was close to $90,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started talking in May 2020. The primary work was finished in March 2021, and they’re now working on a second portion of the project.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
People love the website. We’ve shown it to many people, and we haven’t heard somebody saying they don’t like it. We’re also very happy with the brand image, logo, and everything behind it. It’s all sharp, and we couldn’t have done it without Blackribbit.
How did Blackribbit perform from a project management standpoint?
They used all sorts of ways to keep us on track. I own and operate a couple other companies, so time is always an issue. However, they were really accommodating to work with me, my schedule, and other team members. All of the work was distributed across two countries and three time zones.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They had a global thoughtfulness to the design element. It had a global appeal, and I think that was because they had an international-minded team.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Not really. They were flexible to work with us in different ways. We couldn’t do any better, honestly.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Trust the process; their methodology really works.

Brand Revival for Massage Center
We were approached by a small Massage Therapy practice in Brooklyn in need of a fresh look and feel to help expand their clientele. The market landscape provided the opportunity to create an environment seamlessly merging the founder’s philosophies of holistic wellness with modern accessibility.

Branding & Digital Design for Limo Business
Smooth Limousine, a San Francisco Bay Area private chauffeur company, has succeeded for a long time through nearly only a traditional, word-of-mouth marketing model. With the shift of app-driven car services and the customer need to centralize booking processes on mobile devices, Smooth Limousine was ready to take their business digital. As such, they came to us to launch a brand program to concentrate on expanding and repositioning them online and digitally to target the hotel industry and tourism.
We established their brand strategy, go-to-market brand identity, and launched a promotional website with the intention of raising awareness, simplifying contact and offering easy-to-use, intuitive booking processes.

Branding for Non-Profit
The Shackleton Research Trust is a non-profit organization with a mission to maximize the global footprint of underrepresented students of science. We were honored to be a part of this awesome project to help develop the brand strategy, design the logo, visual identity and website, and execute a marketing plan to help the organization achieve its ambitious objectives.

Brand Identity for Sports Equipment
Logo design, visual identity and marketing collateral for an easy-to-use, affordable, resistance bands training kit and distributor.

Web Store Overhaul for Superfood Manufacturer
me Moringa, a producer and distributor of Moringa Oleifera was in the process of relaunching their brand and hired Blackribbit to create marketing collateral and to give their web store a face lift. We changed their hosted platform altogether, and aligned the visual and UI design with the new brand messaging, resulting in a more open, fluid and contemporary aesthetic.

Branding & UX/UI for ERP Business
Eiffel Group came to us with a challenge to brand their ERP startup within a saturated market. We jumped on the opportunity and positioned Eiffel Group as an entity who empathizes with their customer and understands the stresses they undergo via complex management problems within their business.

Branding for Training Center
The purpose of this project was to rebrand a security training center and adventure outfit with a mission to provide education in the personal security marketplace for civilians, security contractors, and law enforcement professionals. The result reflects their new, broader range of services and competencies.

Campaign for Fashion Brand
We were hired to develop a campaign surrounding a new character, or "Doll", originally called Molly, then changed to Kandi. Our idea to cover her in colors, candy and crazed allure was inspired by the raver lifestyle. Located in a padded cell, recreational drugs were replaced with candy and Kandi's addiction is being fed. The result was the idea of feeding a girl's inner party child with the slogan, "Can you hang with Kandi?"

Service Design for Non-Profit
Arrive Nine-to-Five, or A925, was conceived when addressing issues surrounding the refugee population in Germany and focusing on an approach that would help improve their integration process into the economy. The scope of work for A925 included defining a concrete problem, planning, researching, designing, prototyping, and testing. Our team conducted extensive research including expert interviews, co-creation brainstorming and workshop sessions with Syrian migrants, volunteers, arrival centres, BAMF, Sozialamt, jobcentre, and thorough literary research among others.

Branding for Nightclub
The purpose of this project was to brand a new San Francisco-based nightlife lounge. With such a vast and diverse nightlife scene in the city, we took advantage of the unique location at which the lounge would be situated - the Mission District - known for its wide collection of dive bars. This gave us the opportunity to play to an audience accustomed to the downtown nightlife experience, while engaging a new location-centered clientele.

Brand Identity for Music Production Company
NOIS stands for No Obstacles In Sight - we were hired to design a logo encapsulating the essence of "making it" in the music industry. We did this by using an aggressive yet playful image, evoking fighting for one's dreams, loudly, proudly and openly. As it's designed for a record label producing a wide variety of music, we wanted to avoid creating something exclusive but rather, broad and all encompassing, which resulted in the image of a microphone.

Brand Revival for Boutique Spa
Bare Beauty Spatique is a beauty spa offering a plethora of services from skin care to nail care to body care. While the business was doing fine due to the owner's talent, reputation, and customer-centric approach, the messaging was confused and her unique implementation to the practice was being overlooked. She had a vision of scaling the business while maintaining the diverse list of offerings.
Using our Prestige Best Model, we discovered that Bare Beauty’s brand essence is “holistic, transcendent wellness.” This concept was reinforced repeatedly throughout the process as more qualities of balance and transformation came to light. We pulled at her customers' experiences before, during and after each session and learned that they were truly cathartic.
Entering Bare Beauty’s space means allowing yourself to be vulnerable, placing absolute trust in the artist’s hands, journeying through abstract self-reflection, experiencing transcendence to finally… emerge blissful. This is the emotion that is felt after interacting with the brand, one that can be achieved, repeated, and scaled. It is this feeling that drives Bare Beauty and all its assets. It is this emotion that motivates their customers to return.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the owner of Smooth Limousine.
What challenge were you trying to address with Blackribbit?
We’ve been in business for a while, but we never worked on our marketing and brand identity, so we needed someone to help us create these strategies. Additionally, we needed a website.
What was the scope of their involvement?
The Blackribbit team worked with us on our branding and marketing plans. We worked closely with them to build these strategies. They also created a new logo for us and helped us design some business cards and flyers.
They also built our website. First, we gave Blackribbit an idea of what we wanted for the site. They then proceeded to design and develop it from scratch. We used Limo Anywhere to manage our business, so we asked the team to integrate it with the site.
What is the team composition?
I worked directly with Nader (Founder & CEO) and another teammate.
How did you come to work with Blackribbit?
We found them by talking to other business owners, so I reached out to Blackribbit. Our conversation went well, and I felt like they knew how to address my needs.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent $25,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project lasted from May–October 2021.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We still have yet to launch the website, so we don’t have any metrics. However, the Blackribbit team was very efficient and delivered within the deadlines we set. Overall, we were satisfied.
How did Blackribbit perform from a project management standpoint?
I like the way they operated — the team was very flexible and punctual. They delivered everything within the timeline they promised and stayed on budget. We mostly had weekly Zoom meetings, but we also had phone calls as needed.
What did you find most impressive about them?

Are there any areas they could improve?
We didn’t have any bad experiences with the team.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be honest and direct with what you want from them and set clear deadlines. They’ll fulfill your needs just like they did for me.

Please describe your company and your position there.
I work for a large digital media company comprising a vast network of sites, consolidating billions of vistors a month worldwide. I work as a product manager with the group, working directly with ownership and senior leadership to execute on new product ventures. I focus on creating new products that align with solutions for efficiency across the entire company.
For what projects/services did your company hire Blackribbit?
I worked with Blackribbit to help me get a rough design and working prototype of my first iteration of a mobile webapp, and used their services to elicit feedback from stakeholders and consolidate vision for our eventual product build.
What were your goals for this project?
My goals were to develop some 50 individual pages within the larger site platform, and translate those into a clickable prototype.
How did you select Blackribbit?
I have worked with Blackribbit for years and find them professional, great with feedback, and experienced enough to fill some of the gaps that often put a project on pause.
Describe the project in detail.
We work directly with creators to provide the easiest, most useful, lucrative and in-demand tools in the fan creator space, all in one login. Getting to MVP will enable both VS and WMG to begin integrating and testing both the creator platform and tube traffic integrations. It makes sense to launch with an MVP due to the timing of our entry, where we can continue to quickly iterate the creator backend and expand on their toolkit. Creator engagement will be key over the long term to make sure that the traffic volumes alone aren’t wasted, and to build word of mouth growth to feed ever increasing demand.
What was the team composition?
The team is currently 1 pm, 2 Senior Devs, 1 Junior BE Dev and 2 FE Devs.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
This project got the ball rolling and enabled us to bring the project to life. We are working on building out our MVP now, and with the help of blackribbit we should be to market by early Q2.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
Excellent, the Blackribbit team had consistent meetings and were timely and focused. They worked through the holiday season, which was a big reason why they proved such an advantage - alleviating the gap between Christmas and New Year where new ventures still months off are hard to focus on. They had great tools for communication, and were able to work with my notes and ask appropriate questions to mitigate for a mutually desired outcome.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
That they worked through the holidays like champs, but also that they have proven such a great resource over and over again that listen and respond quickly and with professionalism.
Are there any areas for improvement?
Not particularly.

We are a small startup focusing on development of new novelty products we aim to bring to market this year.

I found them via a referral from a trusted colleague.
Describe the project in detail.
- Brand discovery, graphics, naming, formation of mission, vision, values, brand voice etc. for three separate brands This was a collaborative process involving several zoom calls to make sure we were on the same page regarding the progress and goals.
- implementation of a website for one of the above brands They implemented the website based on the newly created brand using cs-cart as the framework. This involved them having to interface with developers for custom work, and tweaking of the theme etc.
- creation of a brand book, logo, and other assets in support of the newly created brands. They created a complete and very professional looking brand book which specifies to us everything regarding how to present the brands (fonts, logos, colors etc.)

Everyone I have shared the newly designed website and brand books with finds them very professional and well put together.

We are a full service online Marketing Agency and I am the Founder and Media Buyer.
For what projects/services did your company hire Blackribbit?
To manager our online marketing collateral for our clients ad buys. The Challenge we gave Blackribbit to solve was: Our clients banners were not getting CTR (engagement) At this point we had hired designers other than blackribbit but their work was not performing in terms on Click Through Ratio and the creative did not look high quality.
What were your goals for this project?
Improve Banner CTR Give the creative a high quality look that would match or exceed the quality pedegree of the websites the banners are placed on.
How did you select this vendor?
Nader the Owner of Blackribbit and I have worked on projects together in the past and I was aware of his quality of work.
Describe the project in detail.
The project was creating new market collateral for our clients. I provided feedback on the creatives. Blackribbit was able to create high quality templates for our Jr. Designers to use. In addition to creating the temapates, in many cases Blackribbit helped us with copy and images.
What was the team composition?
I worked directly with Nader the Owner of BlackRibbit.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
The project had 2 primary Goals:

- Improve the Quality of the look and feel of the ads
Goal 1. This was accomplished by Blackribbit increasing the Ad Click Through Ratio. The creatives provided by Blackribbit's team performed higher than our previous creatives.
Goal 2. This was accomplished by Blackribbit using high quality images, crisp designs and they fixed a long standing issue with our banner text looking blurry. Their creatives have a high quality look and feel to them.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
The work flow was great. They delivered on time every-time or earlier.

I currently lead corporate sales at Poll Everywhere a SaaS product for presentations. I worked with Blackribbit while I was freelancing as an Advertising Consultant at Golden Mallard Media.
For what projects/services did your company hire Blackribbit?
I was working to build a web and social media presence for a local business Main Squeeze Juice. We needed a logo and complete branding for the customer both for use on the website/social but also for signage, menus, and print advertising.
What were your goals for this project?
We needed a brand identity that fit the local market and set expectations for customers when they walked it. It also needed to translate across all mediums.
How did you select this vendor?
I had used Blackribbit for UX work when I was full time at Golden Mallard, they had done some excellent work on websites for customers there. I knew they focused on branding and storytelling for more established firms and thought they would be able to add value to this local SMB account.
Describe the scope of their work in detail.
Blackribbit worked with the business owner to understand their history, and goals. They also did several interviews to determine what voice the owner thought the store should convey and how they wanted customers to feel. From there they put together a few spec options and the business owner provided feedback that ultimately lead to the brand concepts that were chosen.
What was the team composition?
We worked primarily with the CEO of the company and they worked directly with the customer.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
The branding set the perfect tone for the business and as well received by the owner and customers. As the marketing firm Blackribbit was able to provide us the assets promptly so that we could begin to leverage them.
The business owner has since taken the website and advertising in-house but has continued to leverage the work that Blackribbit has done. When they expanded the business to a second location they brought the branding and corporate voice with them to the second location - a testament to the strength and versatility of the original work.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
The communication and workflow was effortless considering that there were 3 parties involved (the business owner, us as the marketing agency, and Blackribbit). They were able to balance different needs of different stakeholders and the business owner responded very well to Blackribbits ability to guide the conversation.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
Without a doubt the range of offerings this firm is able to provide, and to do so at such a consistently high level allows us to trust them on different projects for different customers. Regardless of our size, we find their team is able to provide insight and deliver on time, every time.

In my practice, I use a combination of techniques including deep tissue, Thai and sports massage, along with hot stone and cupping therapy as well as other wellness practices to customize each individual treatment. Every session is an opportunity to promote the nurturing and healing of both your body and mind and to incite positive, productive and relaxing results. With each holistic treatment, you regain control of your body and mind and become more aware of your being.
For what projects/services did your company hire Blackribbit?

What were your goals for this project?
The project began with the goal of creating a new logo and website. I was hoping for an increase in exposure and clientele as a result.
How did you select this vendor?
Blackribbit was recommended to me through a trusted friend.
Describe the scope of their work in detail.
Nader began the process with an in-person discussion followed with a questionnaire that both my partner and I filled out. From there he pitched a brand essence, mantra, etc to us. Which was spot on. The next step was the logo design which went through a couple rounds of design and then coloring and text styling. My partner and I were both involved in rounds of feedback throughout the entire process. After that, Nader worked with my partner mostly on the remaining assets - the website, business cards, door signage, t-shirt design, pamphlets. Nader also worked in tandem with my partner on the vision and execution of a photo shoot to collect the visual material for the new site and to also be able to use for future social media and advertising content. Nader continues to work on a weekly basis with my partner on promo material as well as social media content.
What was the team composition?
My business partner and I worked directly with Nader throughout the entire process.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
