Kore Products is an Australian FMCG [fast-moving consumer goods] company involved in food colors, which is a basic ingredient used in bakery products, ice cream, confectionaries, etc. Kore Products are made with raw materials sourced only from HACCP [Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point] and ISO 9001:2008 compliant suppliers to ensure that high quality and consistency is maintained.

I’m the founder. I am responsible for business development, new product innovation, human resources, IT, and logistics.

What challenge were you trying to address with Binary Republik?

Our challenge was managing employee salaries, leaves, the notice board, weather updates, sales and marketing updates, received orders, and dispatched orders.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Binary Republik created an intranet portal with custom features using SharePoint 2013. We had a total of 40 different business pages built to serve a base of 800 users.

How did you come to work with Binary Republik?

We selected Binary Republik after contacting and assessing various vendors from a Google search. Binary appeared to be focused completely on SharePoint.

How much have you invested with Binary Republik?

We have invested $25,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project started in October 2016 and was completed in February 2017.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

Binary Republik provided us with a most efficient solution and delivered the intranet portal on time. The new intranet portal solved all our issues and it brought efficiency to my organization, which resulted in employee and customer satisfaction, and it has helped us to increase the bottom line by 30% year on year.

What did you find most impressive about Binary Republik?

Compared to other partners, I found Binary Republik to be very transparent and accurate in providing estimates. They have a great domain expertise on SharePoint. I would say they are SharePoint subject-matter experts.

Are there any areas Binary Republik could improve?

I don't think so. They are perfect in what they have been doing. They should keep up the good work.

I’m the president and project manager of an NGO that is doing international projects with international institutions.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Binary Republik?

Our employees are spread out, so we use SharePoint Online and Project Professional for organizing the projects we have and the activities and work we do. SharePoint Online is the best real cost value for us. I’ve created the portal because I have experience in IT, but I need help with customizations, functionalities, and extensions, so I hired Binary Republik to assist me.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We use only the project-side of SharePoint, and we wanted to map our projects in the SharePoint Online project site, so that’s what we’re doing now. The first thing was to build an interface between the third-party time-tracking software, Clockodo, and the project side of SharePoint. Binary Republik built the software on an API basis. Clockodo has an API interface, so Binary Republik built a web app that they deployed in Azure. Binary Republik’s job was to take the time entries, outline them to the correct web projects, and create tasks in the task list on the SharePoint project site. Binary Republik also added a few frontend customizations. For instance, in the task list, we wanted to see the description shortened to 15 cards with all of the text being on display in a mouse-over. That’s what Binary Republik has accomplished.

How did you come to work with Binary Republik?

The CEO of Binary Republik contacted me on LinkedIn. At the time, I was looking for other companies in India who would do this kind of work. I was in talks with other companies, bigger companies, but it took them a month to define the basic interface, whereas with Binary Republik, that process only took a day. That’s where I was impressed. I've been in IT for 18 years, so I can estimate how much time something should take. After that, I decided to hire Binary Republik.

We invested €1,000 to €2,000 ($1,080 to $2,160) with Binary Republik.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Binary Republik at the beginning of February 2017. They have delivered what I’ve wanted so far. My requirements are changing, and we are still working together.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

We measure the success of our project by its accomplished functionality. We’re a small business, so we have three licenses for projects on the system but 10 to 13 users. The system will let us scale up to 20 users.

How did Binary Republik perform from a project management standpoint?

Binary Republik is quick to respond, and they get straight to the point. Their technical ability is also great. Our relationship has worked well so far, and they’ve done pretty well. Everything is as it should be.

We don't have any ideas for how Binary Republik could improve.

We're an IT service provider dealing in infrastructure as well as application design, implementation, and upgrades. We provide supplementation and integration of telecom voice, video and data, wireless, business continuity, business process reengineering, and so on.

We had a new SharePoint 2013 implementation.

Please describe the scope of their involvement in greater detail.

SharePoint is a collaboration tool working as a unified repository for various kinds of documentation, with historical and real-time functionalities. It is meant to be a leverageable tool for people to update docs on-the-fly. Our instance has around 3,000 users. Binary Republik handled 80% of the lifting during the project.

How did you come to work with Binary Republik?

We found them through searches on Google, and talked to several potential vendors, going through a requirements-gathering process, as well as schedule-delivery parameters. We ranked candidates based on their approach, the economics, timeframes, people, size, scope, and so on. Each of these parameters served as an elimination factor.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

I'd like to keep that confidential.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Binary Republik five or six years ago. We continue to work with them intermittently, based on demand. If any SharePoint challenge arise or we need implementation upgrades, Binary Republik is our first call.

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

Binary Republik is a Microsoft shop, which is their sweet spot. The two biggest metrics are on-time and on-budget delivery. Binary Republik did this, which, especially since so few people in the industry are capable of the same thing, is kudos to them.

How did Binary Republik perform from a project management standpoint?

This was probably Binary Republik's weakest point. A part of this was cultural; one of our advantages is that we've interacted with numerous offshore providers from multiple regions of the world, so it's easier for us to serve as a focal point. They were phenomenal technically, though. One of our company's strengths is that we deliver projects on-schedule and on-budget, while many people in the IT world don't. We're sticklers about this, as a result. Our methodology is more mature, and it would be hard for one of our vendors to get too far off the railroad tracks since we're right there all the time.

Typically, all of our projects with Binary Republik have been waterfall, but that doesn't mean that they can't deploy an Agile approach.

The communication is good, but even the best communicators in the world will miscommunicate. No one is perfect in this respect, but Binary Republik is good.

What distinguishes Binary Republik from other providers?

On-time and on-budget delivery is my minimum expectation. Sadly, this is not everyone else's minimum expectation. It's easy to look smart when others aren't delivering to the same standard. I can't speak to how the rest of Binary Republik's engagements have gone, but, every time we've requested it, they delivered. This is why we call Binary Republik whenever we have a SharePoint requirement.

Is there anything Binary Republik could have improved or done differently?

There is always some Monday-morning quarterbacking, and one of the challenges in our business is information. I've yet to see perfect information in my career, and I doubt that this will change. We need enough data-points to know what we can typically expect to happen, and react appropriately to variables. Binary Republik certainly has the ability to do this, and, especially within a technical field, can deliver on requirements which evolve, change or are not correctly captured in the first place. Many technical people will become flustered in that environment, whenever there is any ambiguity.

Do you have any recommendations for others considering working with Binary Republik?

People engaging with them need to level-set expectations since the team is on the other side of the world. If this is a client's first foray into an offshore partnership, they will probably experience some frustrations, not so much because of Binary Republik's team, but because the approach itself is different.

They are on time, and they maintain the quality of work. We use JIRA and Basecamp for communication.
