I’m the co-founder of SkinVision, a mobile application that allows users to analyze their moles to see if there is potential danger or risk for melanoma. My app is cheaper and easier for determining potential threats compared to other means.

What challenge were you trying to address with AB4 Systems?
We had a big issue developed a camera technology that allows users to take pictures of certain conditions. With our skin cancer algorithms, the photos need to be of a certain quality. We were having trouble finding mobile developers than understood image analysis.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
AB4 Systems was involved in building the infrastructure from the ground up. Their team developed the camera technology that allows the platform to reach the required accuracy levels. From the backend, a team of doctors looks at everything that comes in, accessing the pictures taken by users. Through their tagging, we could use the images as research for the AR solutions we were building. Along with crafting our iOS and Android app, they were involved with the website we use for marketing purposes. A year and a half ago, we started another project with AB4 Systems that involved creating a platform for small clinics that would open up access to data and second opinions.

After several tries with different agencies, we started working with AB4 Systems. They were known in the area and referred to us.

AB4 Systems doubled our conversation rate. Their team delivers quality at a reasonable price, which is hard to find in a vendor.

What challenge were you trying to address with AB4 Systems?
We wanted to develop an IT solution for community workers who live in sparsely populated rural areas. We were hoping to build a product that could help them understand how to best support children and their families and plan follow-up activities.
We had several requests in terms of how the mobile app should look and the type of features it should have. Specifically, we needed a simple and user-friendly interface, because, generally, the technical proficiency of rural community workers is relatively low.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
AB4 Systems developed a product that has two main components. One is an Android app that functions as a case management tool by generating diagnostic information based on several indicators. It calculates each child’s level of need and proposes a minimum package of service that will improve the situation of the child and their family. The mobile app also has tools that support outreach efforts.
The other component is a web-based platform that provides analysis for neighborhood, county, and national data. AB4 Systems built features that create reports and forms, and community workers can use this web-based interface to fill out paperwork.
What is the team composition?
We’ve had several different points of contact throughout the project, and the team has grown since we first started partnering with AB4 Systems. Also, the development team has changed depending on the feature that we prioritized. Currently, there are 3–4 software engineers working on the project.
How did you come to work with AB4 Systems?
We sent out an RFP, and AB4 Systems submitted the best offer.

We’ve spent $500,000 on their services.

We started working on this project together in April 2015, and the work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We developed the product hoping that we would eventually hand it over to the government, and we’ve already started that process. Government representatives evaluated our product several times before moving forward with adopting it. For us, this is substantial evidence of the quality of the work that AB4 Systems delivered. Also, our users tell us that the web-based interface reduces the amount of time they spend filling out forms and managing paperwork.
How did AB4 Systems perform from a project management standpoint?
Our communication with AB4 Systems is smooth, and they’re very attentive to our needs.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The team from AB4 Systems is passionate, proactive, and eager to help us. We were initially surprised by their commitment to understanding our requests and needs, especially as they pertained to the field of social services. During our public presentations about the product, I sometimes overhear their engineers discussing the relationship between our platform and current data and legislation.
AB4 Systems has always tried to find the best solution. They’ve been able to achieve this by focusing on the end user. Whenever we ask for a new feature, they give ample consideration for the impact that it will have on the people using our product. The team also traveled to project sites to meet community workers in the field so that they could see how they use the application. The depth of their research has made a huge difference.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I would recommend that they pay attention to the diversity of their development teams. That being said, I think they’ve done a fantastic job of choosing smart and enthusiastic software engineers for our project. Working with AB4 Systems has been a lovely experience.

What was the scope of their involvement?
AB4 Systems developed the backend of a mobile app for iOS for one of our clients. Features allow users to book spa services, matching them with different beauty service providers. While we handled product strategy, AB4 Systems handled the entire technical implementation, including the backend development of the mobile app built in Objective-C. They've since migrated the entire backend to a newer software and created a custom API.
What is the team composition?
We mostly worked directly with Andrei (Managing Partner, AB4 Systems), but 4–6 others also worked on the project at different phases.

The app they built has been running since September 2017 without a single update or any bugs. The quality of that code has surprised us and exceeded expectations. Throughout the engagement, the iterations they sent to us to test were almost completely bug-free as well, helping reduce project management costs and saving us time in the process.
Working with them provided great peace of mind that our client projects were in safe hands because they knew what they were doing and always working at a very high level.
How did AB4 Systems perform from a project management standpoint?
We collaborated very closely on the most recent project, staying in close communication with Andrei and other team members through Slack and email. They were very responsive and took the work seriously.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They ask questions and don't write code for the sake of writing code; if they come across a questionable design decision, they're the first to ask questions and help us make better decisions. They're also very efficient when it comes to writing code, which is one of the best attributes a development partner can possess.

We’re working in an agile method. I really appreciate the fact that they respond in a very timely manner. Every time we have a request, want to add another feature or have a different setting for the app or the website, the team responds and moves quickly.
From the beginning, we knew exactly how we were going to move forward. We set a timeline and we’ve stuck to it. We communicate openly and freely through different channels, so everything has been working quite smoothly.
Even though we’re probably not their biggest client, it seems like AB4 Systems is still allocating the time and effort to have everything in place.
