Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the head of growth at Clickoo, a multilingual paid media agency. We work with businesses that want to export products or services into the market outside of their native countries. We run paid media campaigns on platforms like Google Ads, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. and use an inside strategy to connect with audiences in their native languages.

What challenge were you trying to address with Stand Out?

We needed help with the process of redefining and repositioning our product and the way that we do things.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Historically, we were pretty much a standard paid media agency offering Google Ads and Facebook marketing services and we just happened to have a few multilingual staff members that support us in delivering campaigns in different languages. Our repositioning was based on a need to differentiate ourselves in the market and separate ourselves from our competitors by putting the audience back at the center of our strategy.

 We used insights to really build a full spectrum paid media strategy that will focus on growing the brand. We wanted to move away from the technical side of things into a more holistic and emotion-driven audience-based strategy. It was quite a big shift. We were typically positioned in a very similar manner to a lot of other agencies with very technical speech and data-driven conversations and talking very much about the technicalities of the platforms themselves. 

Stand Out worked with us to understand how we could tie in an aesthetic and a branding approach to our change in service approach. They really worked with us to understand what it was we were trying to do as a service, how that changed our service delivery to our profile target audience, and helped us to understand how we could really convey what we were trying to do to that audience both aesthetically and from a communications standpoint.

What is the team composition?

There was a project manager that was our direct point of contact and an animations teammate for logo and design work. The website was done by four different departments.

How did you come to work with Stand Out?

A content agency that we work with helped us with the initial positioning work when we started to really define the new product in writing and for our content strategy. She recommended them.  

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about £10,000 (approximately $12,900 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from December 2019–July 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I’m very happy with their work. We set out to convey what makes us different in the market and differentiate ourselves with our aesthetics as well as our service offering. They really understood that well, ran with it, took our direction, and built out a nice visual representation.

How did Stand Out perform from a project management standpoint?

Project management was good. We were given a clearly defined turnaround time for things and the vast majority of the time, those times were met. Even when we weren’t very clear, they were able to interpret it pretty well. They came to our office when it was still allowed. They were in very frequently for face-to-face meetings which were nice. I’m very happy with them.

What did you find most impressive about them?

It’s not a common everyday product that we’re doing or something that’s been done in our space before. They really worked to understand what that was and what the differentiators were. Understanding our brand was the first part of it and then they were very skilled in turning that into a visual representation. The creative concept itself was very good and they had the ability to turn what we were trying to convey into more than just a nice color and a font that goes well with it. It’s the whole experience and tying it all together that was impressive. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, it was successful. It went off relatively smoothly. Most of the time when it didn’t, it was our fault through changing our mind or not necessarily giving a clear enough description of what we’re trying to achieve. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Think about what makes you unique as a brand. Understand what your strengths are in terms of an offering and how you’re positioned and help them to really get a grasp of what it is that they can accentuate about your offering or your brand and really lean in to help customers connect with it.

I’m the director of a niche recruitment agency, CADagency, that specializes in engineering and design roles.

What challenge were you trying to address with Stand Out?

I’d created the website myself in the past, and it did the job but needed a redesign. I wanted it to look more professional and have more of a color scheme, since I’m not a graphic designer and had done that work myself. The site looked disjointed and needed more global colors and a theme.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They handled all of the graphics and branding work for the site. They worked on getting the look and feel to match the brand. Since my company is so niche, I wanted something that would stick out and resonate with clients, while having it identify with my branding. 

What is the team composition?

I worked with George (Founder & CEO), but there might have been others behind the scenes. 

How did you come to work with Stand Out?

They came as a recommendation. I’d worked in WeWork, and he came recommended through that and we were on the same floor. From there, I decided to hire him.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around £2,000 (approximately $2,600 USD). 

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from around October–December 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

I am very happy with the site; it’s still currently the design I use for it. All of the branding is still being used to this day and I love it. I’d recommend them. 

How did Stand Out perform from a project management standpoint?

He is the sort of person you just want to leave the project with and have him work through his own timeline. I wouldn’t say the work was incredibly quick, but it was very good.

I never gave him a deadline, so it took a little less than two months because we made changes to it. He was good with time, but it was important to give him a bit of time to work through it. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

George was extremely creative and exceptionally good at seeing things other people don’t. It’s hard to describe, but I could tell him what I wanted to achieve, he could run away with it, and come back with something that shows he understood it from the start. He was good at providing something that matched the brief and showed he understood us. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there’s nothing he could have done better. The brief was quite specific and he did everything I was after. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Give him space and time. Trust his vision. It sounds cliche, but he’s the type of person you can let run with the project. He’ll be dedicated to getting it right. He has a very creative mind and knows his stuff — he really is very good.

Crew Board is a recruitment platform for the superyacht industry. We’re effectively a startup at the moment, and I’m the founder and managing director.

What challenge were you trying to address with Stand Out?

I engaged them from the very start, mainly to create the brand.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We engaged them to develop a new brand and name generation. They’ve helped us create a concept, logo, tagline, and brand guidelines. We also hired them for some UI work for our product, for which they’ve done a couple of iterations.

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked with a couple of interns, as well as mainly with George (Creative Director, Stand Out).

How did you come to work with Stand Out?

We’re both based in the same building, in Manchester, U.K., so we’d met socially. I looked at their portfolio, liked it, and decided to give them a try. They created the brand of our previous company, J4crew, and we were very happy with the results, so decided to engage them again.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent £8,000 (approximately $10,600 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them between February–December 2018. Occasionally, they still work on templates and other design jobs.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

It’s hard to say since we haven’t launched yet. I feel confident knowing we have a strong brand to start with. Everything else has fallen in line too, in terms of the UI and color palette.

How did Stand Out perform from a project management standpoint?

We received deliverables every week, and they kept on top of the schedule. We got a breakdown of what would be done each week, using a mixture of Asana and Slack as the main communication tools, depending on the work. We also used email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re communicative, and they provided us very detailed proposals. We knew where we stood in terms of cost and deliverables, which made it a good experience overall. They have the talent to become a top agency in the future. Their design pedigree is good, and not something we see often.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They’re very strong in terms of branding, but our project was a new domain for them, so it wasn’t always smooth sailing. It’s a case of getting more experience in these areas.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

I can’t think of anything.
