How did Virtido perform from a project management standpoint?

The team plans weekly sprints and has daily exchanges. We have weekly reviews. We mainly communicate through Teams and email. We also use a special HR tool with Virtido for holiday approval.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their team understands our needs. Interaction is easy. We make fast decisions, and they react quickly.

No, I think not.

I am the owner of a publishing company. We are building an app and web version of a publishing platform. It is a new form of publishing that goes live at the end of the month. My background is in publishing.

What challenge were you trying to address with Virtido?

We needed help with a software development project.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Virtido was responsible for both front- and backend development, as well as QA work. It has been really front-to-back software development from zero to one hundred. My role was more around giving the vision, doing the UX and UI design, and setting the requirements.

Their team provided backend development on Node.js, MongoDB. For the web version, the front-end was done in Bulma. For both the iOS and Android versions of the mobile platform, they worked in Flutter.

What is the team composition?

We currently have three backend developers, two frontend developers on Flutter and the web, one QA person, and one business analyst/project manager which is the core team. We also have a project manager for 20% and one more developer who helps with DevOps stuff, and he may be only 10%.

How did you come to work with Virtido?

They were recommended to us by a friend who was already successfully working with them. I met them last year, and it was just a good fit.

How much have you invested in them?

We have invited around 180,000 CHF (approximately $193,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

Our ongoing engagement began in March 2020. We fully started on the app development in late spring when we knew what the development was and where we were heading. We first did the web version in the summer, and then started on the app in the autumn. Since the winter, we have been more in QA and refinement. It is ongoing, and it is 95% of what we want for the go-live.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We have bi-weekly sprint goals we measure against. We are more focused on having working software as opposed to number metrics. This is quite a big project, so in terms of the delivery, we have become faster and the team has grown and improved over time. 

At the same time, we also had some pivots in the requirements. It’s not that we went into the development with everything cleanly mapped out. We had some things we were experimenting on, things we had some user feedback on, and also things we had to revise, and on that, they are very flexible.

Also, in terms of defining the more detailed set of requirements, Virtido is great. If I give them something quite higher level, they are very good at flushing out the detailed requirements and then planning it. I think with that type of work they are doing well.

In terms of the execution, I would say that the quality is there. They definitely have a strong QA process. Virtido is definitely very diligent about ensuring that the software that is built works well.

How did Virtido perform from a project management standpoint?

They have a mature structure in the team. We have one part-time project manager who brings that structure, keeps the team on a stronger track, and looks after the broad strokes of the deliverables.

I was positively surprised that they are also making more strategic decisions. They don't just sit back and wait for me to decide every single little piece. They have been very proactive with managing the project from their side in the right direction.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Virtdio helps evolve our product. The vision of where we want to go hasn’t changed, but they help us with refining and refining it again. They also push me a little bit to be very specific on things has been the best piece about it.

I think the product we have now and the product we are going to market with is much, much better and for sure much more refined than what we originally had sketched out and detailed out. It definitely has that level of detail and level of quality.

This kind of product is not something you can go to market with, in my view, with an embarrassing first version; an MVP that you just put out, see what happens and let a few people play around with it. It is really something that is very refined because of the target audience and because of what is already in the marketplace. The most impressive thing is really the way they have helped to shape the product and ensure that the product is what it is now.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There are always things that could be improved. In terms of the timelines, there were certain things that we did go in a slightly different direction with, and then we had to pivot back and adjust again, but those are the things you learn along the way.

I think they have been very fair as well in terms of the commercial side with also giving discounts on certain rates. For example, they made it clear that one of the developers was more junior and he would be a bit slower for the first two months, but the rate was very attractive. They said the developer will train up very quickly, and that is something they have been able to achieve.

The work is very professional. It could be faster, which is always the case. Overall, I think the speed is okay for a project of this size. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I think it depends on where you are coming from. I have actually wanted to go and physically meet the team but that just hasn’t been possible with COVID-19 right now. I would say to be face to face with the developers, but I haven’t been able to do that myself.

Give them your trust with a lot of the scope because they can do almost everything, including certain aspects of design. I had certain questions and feedback on the design, and they were able to help there as well. If you are looking for a supplier that really can provide almost everything, front to back, including project management, design, front, and backend development for the full scope of delivery, they can definitely do that.

In my position, I could have started one or two months later by actually handing them the project, but we really worked a lot on the backend at the beginning. That foundation hasn’t changed. Even if we change things on the front, the work we were able to do on the backend was not impacted by that.

If you are looking for full front to back development, they are very good. What I don’t know is if you just need a small part as some small frontend work done, or small backend pieces are done, I don’t know if you will get the same quality. Certainly, in terms of the full scope of development, the team that we have is strong and stable which is important. It is important that you have the same people and that the team grows together and starts to become more and more productive.

I’m the owner and managing director of the travel communication agency Tasari Atelier. The project we launched with Virtido was the new travel online magazine TravelBistro.

What challenge were you trying to address with Virtido?

We wanted to develop a new travel website. We needed a partner to help us do all of the development and programming.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They helped us from A to Z. First, we discussed our options in terms of managing our WordPress site. We’re a small company and it was important that our partner understood that we needed the project done within our budget.

After we started developing the concept, the team began working on the design. Then, Virtido did all of the programming. Next, the team showed us how to use the site. Finally, we launched the site. Virtido is still helping us whenever we want to add or change things to the site.

The site itself helps users find travel inspiration, photos, and videos. They can also give feedback and tips on places they’ve visited.

I work with Sebastian (Partner & CTO) and Jean-Luc (Co-Founder).

How did you come to work with Virtido?

I found them through my network. I started to talk with Jean-Luc and determined they’d be a good fit for us.

We started working together in April 2019, and our website launched in June 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

It was important to have a reliable partner, since we’re not programmers. I really appreciate that they’ve been a partner for us, especially during COVID-19. We don’t have a big budget with everything going on and they’ve been great about discussing what we could do in such a difficult situation. In general, the feedback for the site has been very good.

How did Virtido perform from a project management standpoint?

We used Trello for project management and InVision for design. I liked how I could integrate my comments and the entire team could interact with the design. Our entire team could see the progress of the project. We communicated by phone and Skype. It was great how we had just two points of contact who coordinated with the rest of their team.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were supportive and they understood that we needed a tailor-made approach for each phase of the project. It was also nice that we got to know our contacts well. They were able to develop exactly what we wanted.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, it is very nice to work with them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My advice is to give them all the details on a project and all the ideas you have in mind. Be open and honest about your goals and lean on their vast experience. Touch base on a regular basis and your project will be a success.

I’m the co-founder of Educa Swiss. We’re a nonprofit organization and foundation that provides a crowdfunding platform in adult education. That includes mostly university studies but also professional higher education. We have a process that combines coaching and a financing mechanism.

What challenge were you trying to address with Virtido?

We have a small in-house software development team and sought to expand our possibilities with Virtido. Our aim was to have professional software development that grows with our organization. The software code we have is a legacy code that grew over five years and was done by students. Now, we want to make it professional, refactor part of the code, and build a new UI.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The structure of our engagement is a reliable software development process with weekly releases. We had to migrate the software’s framework from Symfony 2.8 to Symfony 4. The vertical was heavily involved in that. We created a new UI for our beneficiaries. Virtido helped us design a new user journey.

We had had an additional team from Virtido that was implementing the application that sits on top of our backend. They plugged into our development process for three months. Then, for a second iteration, we revised the process. For another three weeks, we had the same developers back on our team.

We collaborate and continue to work with Virtido. Currently, we have a full-stack developer who works two days a week. They help us to continually improve and refactor the code.

What is the team composition?

We work with a project manager, two developers, and a full-stack PHP developer. When we needed things from a design perspective, they have team members who jumped in and gave insight.

How did you come to work with Virtido?

One of their founders is a personal contact, he was a former student of mine. I was looking for developer capacities in Ukraine and the two things came together.

We’ve invested above $120,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our ongoing engagement started in November 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our first benchmark relates to our part-time system architect. He was a bit skeptical in the beginning about how everything would work with so many people getting involved in the process. After a few weeks’ time, he was really happy with how things were going. This allowed him to change his role to a more strategic one. Because of this, the first key outcome was winning the trust of my system architect.

Second, we could implement almost all of the migration with Symfony. Initially, this was thought to be a major task. Virtido was so fast and delivered such good results that we could use our budget for additional costs. That’s how we grew into this continued collaboration that we’re enjoying now. They have very fast project delivery and there’s a very good quality of code. Because of them, we can live up more to the principles of DevOps software production.

Pertaining to the newly built user journey and UI, we could see that the number of successful boarding of new beneficiaries has been steadily growing; that’s what we were aiming for. The quality of the design and process we implemented shows that the number of questions related to the process was going down. This means that people better understand how it works. The process is more straightforward and the UX is clearly better. That growth is a good indicator of their work.

Virtido really thinks with us and beyond the task; this exceeded my expectations. They tell us about opportunities that come with an idea and put it into perspective. They hint at unintended consequences of what we want them to do. That makes them a good partner for us. It’s beyond doing a job; it’s a partnership.

How did Virtido perform from a project management standpoint?

They do great with project management. There’s always clarity on how much capacity is available We have touchpoints and they’d inform us in advance if something was more complicated than initially thought. We have great communication and their strategy is forward-looking. Depending on the phase of the project, we have weekly Zoom calls. We use Slack for more immediate exchanges. There’s also a ticketing system in place. The setup was very professional. They adjusted to our way of doing things which is really nice.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re a true partner. Virtido thinks beyond and anticipates. Their team doesn’t just take a job and implement it, they discuss the job with us. We learn together. That makes the process smooth and the quality of the product nice.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I’m really happy. It feels like working with friends.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Cultivate a strategic perspective about where you are and where you want to go beyond the technical requirements. Virtido has the capability to think deeply with you and that has a good influence on what they eventually do with you.

We’re Pexapark, a company that produces software for renewable energy investors. Basically, what we do is help them sell their energy better. We help them sell electricity in the open energy market by providing them with pricing information by quantification of their portfolio. We also monitor their portfolios and conduct reporting and invoicing. 

I’m one of the co-founders of the company and currently the CTO. We’ve now grown to 35 people.

What challenge were you trying to address with Virtido?

We were in the situation that we needed to quickly hire a development team, but early on we realized that there weren’t enough engineers in Switzerland and it would be impossible to look there. Essentially, it would be really hard to get people to join us and it was clear that we needed to go somewhere else. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They’ve provided us with access to the labor market in western Ukraine. They have offices and they let us recruit our own team with their help. Their HR staff collects CVs and recommends people to us. The team also mentions the salary expectations of the software developer candidates when they present them. 

Then, once we decide whom we want, they take them in. Virtido has an office and they enable us to hire a team as if they’re part of our company. The only difference is they provide services remotely.

We hired our first developer in January 2018. Currently, we have three open positions we’re gathering at the moment. So far, we already have four candidates in the second phase of the interview. 

What is the team composition?

We mainly work with one main point of contact. We reach out to that person whenever we need to discuss something. We also collaborate with Sebastian (CTO) and Nina (HR Business Partner). All the hirings come from Nina because she’s the head of the HR department. 

How did you come to work with Virtido?

Our CEO used to work with another company and they knew Virtido. Since we were acquainted with someone from Virtido, we asked them if they could help us. Then, they told us what they would do and it convinced us to partner with them.

They were just very clear in what they could offer and we felt like they could understand what we wanted to do. They also showed that they had startup clients and their service worked for them.

We’ve spent approximately $1 million.

We hired them in November 2017, and we continue to work with them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They’ve quickly built our ideal team, and within 10 months, we’ve already hired six people.  We have a really good development team because of Virtido’s efforts. We’ve always been happy with the relationship we have and they have been very helpful. 

How did Virtido perform from a project management standpoint?

Whenever we make requests — for example during Christmas — they’ve always supported us in organizing. We’ve also been really happy with their timeline. The labor market is really competitive in Ukraine, so we always need to act fast. To be specific, when we have a profile, we need to respond approximately three days later. 

We don’t do project management with them, but in terms of communication, they’ve been responsive. I can be very direct with them because they’re not a huge corporation. I can also directly call them depending on what I need. We use Slack, email, and more. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have a very good spirit. They operate on trust and are interested to build long-term relationships. With others, sometimes they just offer an impersonal engagement. A lot of those providers do a screen recording of employees and other similar things, but with Virtido, they’re just a really cool company that’s on our level. Above all, they are proactive. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Nothing stands out to be honest when it comes to areas they can improve. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Virtido allows you to get developers in Ukraine to become part of your company. They will really support you and allow you to get a development team. In turn, what you need to do is to ensure that the people you hire don’t feel like second-class citizens. The team will help you build your team, but you also have to make an effort.

I’m the founder and CEO of a software startup.

What challenge were you trying to address with Virtido?

We needed assistance to develop our mobile app’s frontend.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Virtido developed the frontend of our Android and iOS apps. They developed functions that are Near Field Communication (NFC) related.

We have an NFC scanning function integrated into the app. We have the possibility to interact with friends and receive more information about products they buy. It helps users decide whether a product is authentic or not.

Based on that information, the brand can distribute more information about the product. For example, where it’s produced and what’s it made of. As a consumer, users can use our apps to find that product-related information.

What is the team composition?

There was an Android and an iOS developer. We’re only working with the iOS developer at the moment.

How did you come to work with Virtido?

We were in contact with them for quite some time. I had contact with them in a previous shop where they offered to build a mobile-based solution. That’s when I got to know Jean-Luc (Co-CEO & Founding Partner) and Sebastian (Partner & CTO).

A year or so later, we reached out to them again because we had established that initial trust.

The developers directly report to our head of product. It works very well.

If needed, we communicate through email and phone calls with management on their side. We do have a lot of communication with their developers through Slack and Google tools.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The team delivers what they promise. The reason we decided to outsource the work was because of the price. If we hired the same resources here in Switzerland, we’d end up paying double.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We’re really happy with them. We haven’t had any big issues with them personally or professionally.

It’s a very good collaboration.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Work with them. If you want to outsource parts of your development team, there’s not much that speaks against them.

They’re a very reliable team with clear communication. Along with being loyal, they have good integrity. There’s no reason why I wouldn’t work with them.

I’m the co-founder of MICA InsurTech, a tech provider for insurance companies. We provide a combination of insurance services, policy coverages, and technologies, which combine IoT and cloud-based services.

What challenge were you trying to address with Virtido?

We were looking for developers, especially mobile app developers. The market in Switzerland is quite tough, and we reached out to Virtido to find someone with experience in nearshore development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We were looking for the profiles themselves and not a project per se. We were looking for two native script developers with a strong focus in Android applications. They helped us to review profiles, find people that were available, and HR staffing.

We hired two developers that worked remotely from Ukraine.

What is the team composition?

There are two main points of contact. There’s a local contact here in Switzerland, mainly in the sales area. I do have a contact in Ukraine that deals with everything HR-related with the developers.

How did you come to work with Virtido?

We invited three different agencies, and in the end, Virtido seemed to get up to speed quicker than the others.

They presented us with a couple of profiles early on, and they presented high-quality profiles from the very beginning. They didn’t need a lot of time to ramp up; they were ready and understood us well. It was an easy choice in the end.

How much have you invested with them?

As it’s on a monthly basis, we spend approximately $10,000 a month for the two developers.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our engagement with Virtido started in July 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The whole operation was set up well. With having all these operations outside of the country, it can be quite time-consuming, and they’re doing a nice job with that.

One thing that was really important for us was the time it takes to hire because we’re running very low on options in Switzerland and we needed developers quite fast.

With Virtido, we were able to hire the first one six weeks after we signed the contract with them. That was an important metric to us because typically if we were to look for people in Switzerland, it takes three to six months to hire someone and to have it done in six weeks was great.

How did Virtido perform from a project management standpoint?

I see them physically once or twice a year, but not that often at the moment. We usually email them but use Slack and Skype to communicate with the developers.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The most impressive thing is how fast they understood what we really needed and what profiles fit our specific demands. There was a critical thinking component.

In the beginning, we had a little bit of another view on what we needed, but they were able to convince us that some aspects of what we were looking for weren’t important. We shifted from that because of their feedback. The team thinks about what we actually need.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Not really. Something might come up within the next few months, but so far, everything works quite well.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Typically, you have to describe your project in detail, and you need to be able to sell your project if you want to find great developers. It helps if you pitch project well.

I’m managing a team of developers that Virtido provided to me. Virtitdo provided full-service staff augmentation services for these developers. They sourced candidates, interviewed them, and hired them. Virtido continues to manage the office duties and HR-related tasks. 

The developers are supporting web application development and mobile app development. They’re also managing the IT administration and operations of our platform. 

What is the team composition?

I work with Daniel (Founding Partner, Jean-Luc (Co-CEO), Sebastian (Partner & CTO), and Nina (HR Business Partner) from Virtido. I’m working with a team of eight developers. 

How did you come to work with Virtido?

I was introduced to Jean-Luc by a friend of mine. I have experience managing offshore teams, and I could see that Sean did as well. They appeared organized and professional. 

How much have you invested in them?

I’ve spent approximately $380,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We signed the contract in June 2019, but I didn’t start working with my first resource until that September. My engagement with them is ongoing.

I’m happy with the results. They handle problems well, and we have a good relationship. 

How did Virtido perform from a project management standpoint?

I have daily contact with the team. The management side is also good about communicating and keeping me up to date. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re very professional, and they understand the customer and listen to them. They also put people at the center of their work. It’s about good relationships, and everyone that works there is happy. There’s very low turnover with developers.

I’ve never had any issues with them. If there is a problem, I talk to them, and it gets solved. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

You should explain your problems and what you need. However, don’t forget to be open to their ideas and solutions.

I am the CEO and founder of Okomo, a Swiss company offering a sales and service communication software. It easily integrates live messaging, voice, video, and appointment scheduling solutions directly into online channels such as websites, emails, newsletters, and social media.

What challenge were you trying to address with Virtido?

We were bootstrapping the company in the beginning and had a very small tech team. We were looking for additional support in developing the solution.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The platform decision was already made. We had a clear understanding of the technology that we wanted to build the whole solution on. Based on that, Virtido had to be able to build this and continue developing the product on the Azure platform that we had in place. 

We are a Microsoft start-up company with all the advantages that we get from their side, but there is also the fact that we use Twilio with RTC technology that they were able to work with so it was a very easy ramp-up and onboarding process as well.

What is the team composition?

It depends as there was fluctuation. We started with two part-time developers and then we were very quickly able to transition one person from part-time to a full-time role and he has been with the company for more than two years. 

We also had some additional support from other people in the team and now we have a resource who is a junior developer or intern basically, that supports the full-time full stack developer in certain tasks as well. Currently, we are working with the CTO of Virtido who supports on an interim basis, we work with the head of engineering in a part-time engagement.

How did you come to work with Virtido?

It was a pure coincidence. We were working in the same co-working space. I had overheard a conversation that Sebastian (Partner & CTO) was having while we were in the process of finding an organization to add additional people. 

I quickly approached him and after a round of introductions, I asked if they might be interested in supporting us and working together. From then on, the partnership has evolved. They’ve been the perfect fit.

What is the status of this engagement?

I believe it began in October 2018, and the work is ongoing.

We have received good feedback so far. The whole team, and our CTO specifically who worked very closely with the team, were extremely happy with the whole engagement but also the outcome, the quality of the service, and the work they were doing. 

Across the board, all the feedback we have received is super positive.

How did Virtido perform from a project management standpoint?

We use a tool called Azure DevOps. We use it for sprint planning, task management, and quality control. They also have access to our Microsoft Teams internal communication solution in order to have a broader exchange and communicate within the team.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They are very straightforward. The quality they deliver and communication is impressive. We have a very easy way of working together. They are very close to us, they understand, and they have been flexible. Virtido’s flexibility is something we really appreciate.

Build a close relationship with the founder team in Switzerland but also try to be close with the developers in the UK.

I’m the co-founder of an investment management SaaS platform.

What challenge were you trying to address with Virtido?

We didn’t have a team of developers; we used Virtido to draw on their developer skills and build our web application.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Virtido built the entire web app for us. We started with a piece of paper as an outline of what we wanted to design. We met with their senior team first. They asked us questions and tested whether we thought through all the important aspects.

From there, they came up with the resourcing plan for how they would build this, which we then tweaked. After that, Virtido was able to take on the project under our managerial direction. We had three calls per week to make sure everything was progressing as planned. We also set a number of development sessions with business analysts to figure out what we’re trying to do.

What is the team composition?

We have multiple points of contact. One of the co-founders is involved in more senior reviews. We also have monthly meetings with Virtido’s technology officer to plan content properly, and then three times a week, we meet with the development team and business analysts. There are also ad hoc meetings ad hoc. We get the attention we need.

How did you come to work with Virtido?

One of their founders was a former colleague of mine. When I knew we needed a solution, I asked him if he could help us.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together two and a half years ago. We’re still working with them to add features and provide ongoing maintenance.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

In six months, we built a serviceable MVP from scratch that we were able to deploy to regulated financial services companies. We’ve received compliments on how well the app works. That speaks to Virtido’s quick development as well as their ability to create quality code.

There was also very little we had to change afterward. Virtido tested our thinking really thoroughly and built what we asked for. Overall, the experience has been very positive.

How did Virtido perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re structured, punctual, and logical, which helps in this environment. If something is unclear, Virtido will tell us and get the detail they need. We spend the time needed upfront so we don’t have to rework afterward.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Compared to other firms, their professionalism is what stands out. We get what Virtido promises in the time they promise. That’s not always a given in software development.
