**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success? The project resulted in a beautiful Figma design for the core workflow we set out to design. The design follows UI/UX best practices that were beyond the expertise of EpiCypher, and the Unosquare team did a great job guiding the process to ensure we didn't implement features that would compromise the usability of the site. The resultant design will also serve as a reusable template for the remaining views that need to be designed and are ready to be implemented by our development partner.Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs? The Unosquare team has an exceptionally well managed process to ensure the project moves forward according to plan. However, our particular project didn't fit that mold and they did a great job adapting their traditional sprint process to meet our needs. While we weren't able to adhere to a traditional method locking views in a progressive cadence, we did complete all of the outlined views by the end of the project with time to spare. What was your primary form of communication with Unosquare, LLC?Virtual MeetingWhat did you find most impressive or unique about this company? We were most impressed with the team's deep UI/UX design expertise and the speed with which they created the designs. We always knew we could probably design the site on our own, but the sheer volume of best practices and conventions that we learned about through this process meant the final product was infinitely better than what we could have produced on our own. Additionally, we reached that conclusion months faster than we could have done ourselves. Are there any areas for improvement or something Unosquare, LLC could have done differently? No critiques here. Easily the best money we've spend on this project.

Director of Product Management, EBS
- Industry: Other industries

- Client size: 11-50 Employees
- Review Type: Phone Interview

**The Review** — Jan 4, 2023

**Feedback Summary**: The product was cleaner, less busy, and more intuitive than its previous iteration, according to feedback from end users. It was also easier to navigate, thanks to Unosquare, LLC's (formerly Catalyst UX's) work. The team was on top of everything and scheduled things properly ahead of time, resulting in a smooth engagement.
"“They provided a lot of recommendations; they didn’t just tell us how we should do things.”"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.I’m the director of product management at EBS, a software company with several products. Our main flagship product is ProPricer, a proposal software intended for pricing, estimates, and proposal creation. We have quite a big customer base in the aerospace and defense industry.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Catalyst UX?We didn’t have UX specialists within our ranks. Our company had a couple of development teams and managers and used internal assets to come up with the design of our software. Much of it came from the designed that worked back in the day. We attempted to modernize the product, so we decided to get a UX specialist to work on it. However, couldn’t find anybody that suited us. As a result, we decided to seek external companies to help us. That was why we engaged Catalyst.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?Initially, we introduced what we were attempting to do and what our goal was without knowing a whole lot about the industry segment. During the first phase of the project, we sat down with them and went through what our software did and looked like. We then discussed specific areas that we wanted to improve, and the team provided their recommendations on what we should address and what would be more intuitive for end users. Our company took their route and had 3–4 stages where we went back and forth and adopted their implementation approach. The software was complex, and it took us several tries to relay what it truly was. In any case, it was developed in various stages. Finally, when Catalyst delivered their final recommendations, we took a majority of what they proposed and started implementing them. While we were developing the product, we had a beta group testing it. Catalyst came and did their part toward the end of the beta group. We already had some ideas from our existing customers that the software was simple and easy to use; it was busy and unintuitive. Given that, Catalyst suggested removing some navigation pieces and keeping everything in one place. This would make the product simpler and more intuitive. We got rid of the navigation panel and moved all controls up in one area. To create the designs, we used Figma. What is the team composition? Our initial contact was with Paul (CEO), and then there was a salesperson. From there, we worked with two people; one did all the wireframes while the other put together the prototype. We met with those two a couple of times per week for a couple of months as we went through that process. How did you come to work with Catalyst UX?We told Catalyst general information about the software and what it did. From there, they came up with a proposal for what they could do to the product. They presented a couple of options, which we evaluated. We considered other companies, but Catalyst had the best offer. As a result, we decided to go ahead with them. How much have you invested with them?We spent around $50,000. What is the status of this engagement? Our engagement lasted from September–November 2022. For context, we chose them in the beginning of August 2022, but because of the beta group and other things that were happening, we didn’t start the engagement until the end of September 2022.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? Several customers told us they could put the product in the hands of end users because it was much cleaner, less busy, and more intuitive than before. For navigation, we used MS Clarity to see if there were any dead clicks and things like that. Overall, the product was a lot clearer in terms of navigation and based on the feedback of people still on the sandboxes testing the product. How did Catalyst UX perform from a project management standpoint? The project was well. Catalyst was on top of everything, letting us know how many UI areas were addressed and what was left behind. Everything was on point’; nothing was delayed or canceled — the project moved forward. Moreover, there was a couple of times where the wireframe specialist contacted us outside of the working hours. I specifically told him that that was fine. He needed some help in some specific UI areas, so he reached out over the weekend. I replied back with an email, and he was ready to show his work by Monday. Overall, they worked outside regular working hours, so everything stayed on track. Additionally, everything was scheduled out properly. The salesperson served as the project manager, and she scheduled everything ahead of time. If there was any conflict, she’d take things one by one and change the time What did you find most impressive about them?Catalyst’s strength is that they knew what they were talking about. For UX design, they could tell us what they’d done with other customers and what trends were out there. In other words, I liked the fact that they provided a lot of recommendations; they didn’t just tell us how we should do things. They provided multiple options in case we could find a new opportunity. Are there any areas they could improve? No, there weren’t any. Do you have any advice for potential customers?Provide an in-depth explanation of your product if it’s complex. For context, our product was so complex and niched to the aerospace and defense industry. I wish we realized that sooner or before we got going with the project. We could’ve provided them with additional information unique to our software ahead of time.

**Feedback Summary**: Unosquare, LLC (formerly Catalyst UX) made the product easier to use and more visually appealing; their work was well-received by end customers. The team's talent, expertise, and access to cutting-edge technology were valuable, and they progressed as expected. Jira, Bitbucket, and monday.com were used for project management.
""Unosquare, LLC (formerly Catalyst UX) was talented, focused, and diligent with clear specifications.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.I’m a senior director of software development and R&D for our direct current to direct current products at an international provider of semiconductor solutions in the digital and analog spaces.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Catalyst UX?Our products were making a transformation to offer more digital content, and our in-house skillset was different from that. We had analog power designers and power integrated circuit designers, but we decided to engage with a firm that had experience in UI/UX design for web-based technologies to help us build more comprehensive software applications.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?Catalyst UX provided web design services. They helped design desktop user interfaces using Angular and Electron for the frontend; they also used Figma to make renderings of the program’s controls. We also worked with Catalyst UX to maintain the product. What is the team composition? We worked with two software engineers — one was a UI designer, and one was a software designer — and a program manager. How did you come to work with Catalyst UX?Catalyst UX was referred to us.How much have you invested with them?We spent $250,000–$500,000 with them. What is the status of this engagement? We started working with Catalyst UX in June 2020, and the project ended in September 2022.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? Our customers had an immediate positive reaction. Catalyst UX substantially improved our product’s ease of use. The product’s previous interface was full of bugs and not easy to use. The visual improvements they made were also substantial; they made the product modern and cutting-edge using their domain knowledge. Catalyst UX executed the product as we specified and helped us meet the goals for our product. How did the company perform from a project management standpoint? The project deadlines were fluid, and we didn’t have a specific schedule, but Catalyst UX executed sprints as expected. They used monday.com for their project management, and we shared databases using Bitbucket and Jira. We used Zoom to communicate. What did you find most impressive about them?Catalyst UX was talented, focused, and diligent with clear specifications. They understood UX design and were already very well-versed in Angular and Electron. They had licenses for Figma and other tools. We didn’t have their skillet or access to their tools, so they came with the whole package. This meant we didn’t have to invest a lot in infrastructure. Are there any areas they could improve? If we had specified the project more clearly, the execution would’ve been better across the board. Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?Provide clear specifications, and Catalyst UX will execute very well.

""They did excellent in every aspect of this project that they could control.""

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your company and your position there.

I'm the Director of Technical & Physical operations - meaning all things IT, Facilities & Grounds.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
For what projects/services did your company hire Unosquare, LLC, and what were your goals?

We started using a cloud based payroll provider, but have a SQL ERP on campus that many reports are pulled from. We needed a way to know who was a current employee (and not), set a flag appropriately, and keep things up to date between the two systems.

**SOLUTION**
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

They have a solid reputation, and I have worked with Unosquare previously on a customization for their fantastic Passcore Pro solution.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

I lined out the project and designed the data report in the payroll system, ensuring we had a matching key between the two systems. From there, I defined what field should be updated in our campus ERP.

The unosquare team took the API portion and worked to build the connectivity needed to grab and process the data. They provided appropriate configuration files to allow the process to grow with us as we need to change and tweak variables down the road. We used IIS, SQL, a REST API, and they used several programming languages.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

We had a project manager, a coding supervisor, and a staff member work on the project.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The project works! We are live and it seems to be working well. I really appreciate the team's patience as we dealt with API access issues from one of the vendors.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.

This was a fairly simple project, so all communication was done via email. Unosquare was quick to jump on a teams call to make sure were describing and seeing the same things. Overall, their team was very timely.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Consistent positive communication and can-do attitude. I know nothing of the API world, but they guided me through it very well.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

No - they did excellent in every aspect of this project that they could control!

**Feedback Summary**: Thanks to the performance that the Unosquare team displayed throughout their engagement, the company felt confident in giving them more responsibilities as time went on. The company would describe their partnership as a success and everyone internally recognizes the vendor's value.
""This has been successful and everybody who works directly with the team members recognizes their value.""

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your company and your position there.

Our company has a few different areas. I work on the cloud based restaurant technology product. I am one of the QA managers for this product.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
For what projects/services did your company hire Unosquare, LLC?

To help with the manual QA testing of the cloud based product. We have since expanded that to include writing test cases and test suites

**SOLUTION**
How did you select this agency and what were the deciding factors?

Someone in the organization had worked with Unosquare at a previous company.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

Unosquare originally provided 3 QA engineers so that we could run continuous tests throughout the quarterly release cycle. At the time, we had very little automated and thousands of cases, many of which were not getting run.

As cases were automated and the manual testing tasks were decreasing, we started also using the team to write new test cases and fix existing cases that no longer worked. We have recently added a 4th QA from Unosquare.

Describe the recruitment process in detail.

We provide a req, just like we would for any open position. They do a non-technical interview internally and if they pass, they then do an internal technical interview. If they pass that, then I interview. In the most recently added team member, I don't know how many didn't pass the first level, but one didn't pass the second level and one did.

I interviewed the one that did and he became our 4th team member.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any outcomes from the engagement that demonstrate progress or success?

We have been able to give the team more responsibility over time. This has been successful and everybody who works directly with the team members recognizes their value.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

I'm the main interface between the teams and it works well. The Unosquare liaison has regular meetings with me and is available.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Honestly, I've never been the person responsible for a contractor team, so I don't have anything to compare it to. However, I have a good relationship with the team lead (she is one of the 4) and Pedro, who is my liaison.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

So far so good.

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your company and your position there.

I'm the Software Engineering manager overseeing the backend engineering team for Harvard Business Publishing, a content publishing company focusing on improving business management practices, producing both print and digital products.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
For what projects/services did your company hire Unosquare, LLC?

We needed to get several experienced backend developers to work on a fast-paced and fast-tracked project to be completed by end of the fiscal year to meet our goals.

**SOLUTION**
How did you select this agency and what were the deciding factors?

We have worked with Unosquare for many years, and we knew that they always supplied us with very capable and experienced developers, both for backend and frontend needs. We currently have over 20 backend engineers from Unosquare.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

Unosquare provided 3 engineers for this particular project to augment the existing team - which included previously hired Unosquare developers. They were responsible for creating new microservices from the ground up and were heavily involved in both the architecture and coding of the new microservices. They were also involved in the new process of deploying the code into Docker containers.

Describe the recruitment process in detail.

The recruitment process with Unosqure is very smooth. We have regular communications with our account manager, and we discuss with them the skills needed for additional staffing. From there, they provide candidates that we can interview - and they are very transparent with their skillset, so we know that we're getting the right person for the job.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any outcomes from the engagement that demonstrate progress or success?

With their support, we were able to meet our deadline of releasing a new microservice by end-of-fiscal timeframe that we could not have done otherwise.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Even though their developers were remote, we treat them as part of our regular team and involve them in all the decision-making processes. We find that this makes the Unosqaure developers much more vested in the SDLC.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They provide highly skilled and highly capable developers that can hit the ground running.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

None that I can think of. There's a constant feedback loop with our account manager, and any issues are handled quickly and professionally.

""They’re always willing to take an extra step and think broader about the client’s vision as well." "

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.I’m the vice president of a healthcare and technology company.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Catalyst UX?We were looking to develop a healthcare mobile app for one of our clients to gather all of a patient’s health vitals in a data analytics engine. Providers can then look at how a user is doing in terms of their health and intervene to provide care proactively, rather than reactively.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?Catalyst UX is helping develop the mobile application, including building some of the patient-facing and member-facing parts of the app. We provided Catalyst UX with the high-level business requirements that our client delivered, and they went through a creation process including mockups, screen designs, and wireframes. In terms of deliverables, they’ve been responsible for the UX/UI, front- and backend design, and end-to-end development. They’ve also built integrations with various devices to capture the vitals. This is a very small project that is closest to a prototype or pilot. We engaged Catalyst UX in our client discussions so they could understand the project, scope it, and put forward a proposal. The work is ongoing, as our customer had aspects that they needed to finalize on their end. What is the team composition? We’re working with three people: a UI designer, a UX designer, and then an integration resource. How did you come to work with Catalyst UX?We’d interacted with them in the past but didn’t have an opportunity to leverage them until now. When they came in, they showed a high level of experience, which built confidence in the partnership. How much have you invested with them? We’ve spent around $100,000–$200,000 so far. What is the status of this engagement? The work has been ongoing since October 2020. Our customer had some dealers on their end that they had to finalize with. The plan was to roll the project out in December 2020, but the work picked up again in March 2021. We’re ready to deploy into production.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?Catalyst UX has on-time, on-budget delivery and provides quality work. We haven’t had any customer complaints; they are very appreciative of the work that Catalyst UX has delivered. How did Catalyst UX perform from a project management standpoint?Their lean team keeps costs low. One of their people has doubled up, helping them handle some of the basic project management activities. The client has also deployed a scrum master on their end. They track the project through a work plan in Excel. We use email, phone calls, and Microsoft Teams to communicate. What did you find most impressive about them?Catalyst UX has a strong sense of commitment to the work. They’re always willing to take an extra step and think broader about the client’s vision as well. They remain committed to the timeline despite change requests, even putting in extra time to ensure the client’s goal is met. They’re very collaborative and have created a feeling of a unified team, even though there are three groups of stakeholders: us, our client, and Catalyst UX. They’re very transparent in terms of what is delivered each week — I really like the level of detail that they provide us.Are there any areas they could improve? The project has gone extremely well. There’s nothing that would stop us from working with them again. I wouldn’t change anything about our experience.Do you have any advice for potential customers?Bring Catalyst UX on early in the process so that they can have complete clarity about the customer’s needs, and then give them the space to deliver.

**Feedback Summary**: The client was pleased with the outcome of the project. Unosquare, LLC (formerly Catalyst UX) is now finalizing the new system to redesign the cleint's application screens. They managed to make design changes quickly, leading an agile methodology in the process. Moreover, their team blended well with the internal team.
""Their ability to hear us, understand are needs, and then deliver for us was spot on.""

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your company and your position there.I am the CTO for a software company that focuses on the Library Industry

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
For what projects/services did your company hire Catalyst UX?To help us redesign the UX for our application

**SOLUTION**
How did you select this vendor?I originally worked with them a few years ago while with a software company who offered rapid development tools. My goal was to help educate our customers on the benefits and details of Modern UX design. When this project was funded I considered them along with other top design firms who focused on projects of this nature and size.Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project. The project involved reviewing our current application, along with most used screens, and coming up with a "Design System" of modular components we could use to rebuild our current screens. We collected and reviewed 70+ screens that were currently in use. Then Catalyst UX designers came up with sample designs that were reviewed and gave input toThen we would review the iterations until we signed off on them.Ultimately they handed over to us the Design System that was built in a UX design prototyping app (Figma). How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions? My team worked directly with UI/UX designer who had worked in our industry and a project manager.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success? We were very pleased with the results and completion of the project. We are now in the process of using the new design system to redesign our application screens. We've started sharing some of the designs with our customers and they are very excited. How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?Very good! The first meeting was a bit "slow" so I had a chat with Paul the CEO and our 2nd meeting that week was very productive, as were the rest of the sessions. We would make design changes "on the fly" that were instantly visible and the pace and process was very agile. What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?Their ability to hear us, understand are needs, and then deliver for us was spot on. The way their team gelled with ours couldn't have been better. We were able to complete the project on-time and on-budget and we even increased scope slightly at the end.Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?I honestly can't think of anything for improvement. Our entire company couldn't be more pleased with the results of the project.

CTO & Co-Founder, Talkoot
- Industry: Other industries

- Client size: 11-50 Employees
- Review Type: Online Review

**The Review** — Mar 1, 2021

**Feedback Summary**: The company was able to deliver the project on-time with a solid foundation. The Unosquare, LLC team contributed significantly to the overall planning and direction of the project. The team was able to integrate themselves into the company's internal culture and become valued members.
""We have been very fortunate with the Unosquare team members."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your company and your position there.

As the CTO and co-founder of Talkoot I'm responsible for providing a clear technology strategy and productive work environment that aligns with our vision and values.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
For what projects/services did your company hire Unosquare, LLC, and what were your goals?

We have worked on one staff augmentation project together, consisting primarily of back-end development of integrations using C# and Restful APIs on an application written on the ASP.NET MVC framework. React and Visual Studio have also been utilized for UI front-end configuration.

**SOLUTION**
How did you select Unosquare, LLC and what were the deciding factors?

Unosquare is a locally managed, nearshore option that fit our needs for flexibility and resource allocation expertise.

The driving force in our decision was the value proposition to integrate team member as though they are permanent employees committed to the success of the company.

Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.

The project of building integrations contains multiple milestones and will be an ongoing effort indefinitely. The scope of the initial milestone was to build a proof of concept middleware solution, Olli, that interacts with RESTful API endpoints between Talkoot and Shopify.

This solution was developed on-time with minimal impact on the production code-base within 4 months. The scope of the next project was to expand upon that integration with a lightweight application named Pagemunk that will be publicly marketed within the Shopify store.

This project utilizes it's own cloud-based serverless architecture and will be targeting small-sized customers. 6 months into this work we are just now code-complete and are about to wrap up regression for submission.

The third project started about 3 months ago and utilized both of these first two projects to expand the integration efforts with Shopify into a generic structure extensible for multiple channels including Amazon, Hybris, Magento, Salesforce, etc.

This integration will be interfacing the legacy Talkoot architecture that targets enterprise customers into push & pull reconciliation commands for products and variants, formatted content and organized media such as images and videos.

Our hope is to be code-complete with the first iteration by the end of March. Our next projects include expansion on Pagemunk, integration with Hybris (SAP) and completing beta for the BrandCenter module within Talkoot.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

We have worked with 3 Unosquare individuals so far. Carlos has been working since February of 2020 as a senior developer. Eliel worked for nearly 2 months as a junior developer. Tony is joining as a senior developer.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The projects have been delivered on-time and with solid foundation. We have an agile process, but we do require initial designs and architecture to be firmly decided upon before coding a solution.

The Unosquare team members have significantly contributed to planning and direction.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timelines.

We communicate on a daily basis through Zoom meetings and live-chat in Slack. A remote workplace has been a competitive advantage for us and thus we rely on a flexible culture and sense of community belonging to motivate our staff.

The Unosquare hires that fit in are ones that are friendly, engaging and understand the big picture.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Unosquare has all of the expected requisites for a software consulting firm including skill matching, HR processes, ongoing monitoring.

However, the real competitive advantage that attracted us was their ability to integrate the personnel into the company culture as a valuable member of our community.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

We have been very fortunate with the Unosquare team members. We did have one surprise when a member decided to move on to another firm, but that seemed to be circumstantial and caught everyone off-guard.

Unosquare's ability to problem solve that moment saved our roadmap timeline and has only strengthened our relationship.

"".They quickly provide high-quality personnel and are upfront about the cost involved."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your company and your position there.

I am the CTO of a Rhode Island based firm offering services around business and technology consulting and application development. I manage the development team, oversee the technology consulting practice, and am responsible for service delivery.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
For what projects/services did your company hire Unosquare, LLC?

Unosquare has augmented our staff with resources in front-end web development, UI/UX design, and quality assurance. Our flagship project is a social media platform for communities and brands; however, we've used Unosquare talent on other projects as well.

What were your goals for this project?

We needed talented, cost-effective staff that could bring to life a vision for a high quality, user friendly SaaS product.

**SOLUTION**
How did you select Unosquare, LLC?

Unosquare's transparent pricing model and flexible terms made us decide to partner with them, and the level of professionalism of the talent they provide keep us engaged with them on an ongoing basis.

Describe the project in detail.

The customer's vision was a branded portal that he could launch for members of his community to communicate and share ideas. Unosquare's UX/UI designer was involved early with interviews, user personas, and market research. It was a truly professional UI-building approach.

Once a design and information architecture was complete, Unosquare team members were in constant communication with our internal staff, attending daily standups and participating in the sprint planning process. We provided direction, but the Unosquare team provided a tremendous amount of valuable input and insight as we moved through the development life cycle.

What was the team composition?

At various parts of the project, we used Unosquare talent for intermediate-level Front-End Development (ReactJS & React Native), UI/UX design, and a quality assurance engineer. We have an in-house project manager/business analyst and two senior full-stack engineers.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Our app development team builds mostly functional business apps rather than end-user heavy software, so cost is paramount. Unosquare has allowed us to offer competitive price points to our customers while maintaining a high quality of service.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We are in frequent communication with our account manager and customer success manager. Requests are always answered in a timely manner.

When our billing methods began to get complicated, Unosquare worked with us to set up a custom system for reporting out work allocations. They were able to deploy this quickly and it allowed us to achieve better accuracy in billing and a higher confidence in our profitability reporting.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Unosquare is very transparent and willing to work with us in good faith. Other nearshore vendors have complicated rules, "gotchya" clauses, and arcane pricing structures. When we need help from Unosquare, we're never put in a position where we're being pitched to, or nickle-and-dimed about a price point on talent. They quickly provide high-quality personnel and are upfront about the cost involved.

Are there any areas for improvement?

The new ClientCore site is great, but it would be wonderful if it could include a history of invoices (full copies, not just the invoiced amount) and reporting on hours allocated. Currently, I need to request manual reports from our account representative.

He's always speedy about it, but it'd be great to be able to get that on our own. Also, QA engineers have a limited amount of devices at their disposal to test with - mainly, their own. It would be great if Unosquare could provide them with a testing platform like browser stack or AWS device farm for true cross-platform QA.

CTO, Ventacity Systems

**The Review** — Jun 25, 2020

**Feedback Summary**: Unosquare sets themselves apart from other contract firms by having very structured processes, maintaining strong expertise of modern design techniques, and delivering high-caliber work. The client-oriented team has proven capable of keeping up with and even outpacing a very fast-paced environment.
"“We can give them something that should take a day, but they’ll be done in an hour, and then they’re on to more tasks.”
"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CTO at a company called Ventacity Systems Inc. We’re a software engineering company that builds large cloud-based SaaS control systems for building automation. I oversee the overall system architecture, SaaS operations, and UX responsibilities.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Unosquare, LLC?

We needed to build a major web app. The internal resources within Ventacity were limited in the skillset necessary to rapidly develop web applications. We have some really talented backend resources, but we were light on frontend capabilities. We needed an outfit that could do rapid development of Vue-based frontend work.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?

Unosquare provides frontend developers. They are our UI team. We have an experienced UX designer and two experienced UI developers internal to the company, but Unosquare forms the bulk of the UI development capabilities that Ventacity has.

What is the team composition?

Initially, we worked with four people, and that has expanded to eight. This includes a principal engineer who is super experienced and manages the project.

How did you come to work with Unosquare, LLC?

Our CEO and one of the founders of Unosquare knew each other, so our CEO introduced our chief architect and me to them. We decided to work with them based on the way in which they engaged with us. Our chief software architect flew down to their headquarters and was introduced to the company and the principal engineer that would be involved in the project. The way they guided everything told me that they were a very professional and skilled organization that knew what they were doing.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent approximately $300,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started the process of trying to get engaged with them in August 2019. Some internal issues of working on a major contract prevented us from going to their headquarters until September, and then the process of getting everything up and moving between the two companies began in October.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our scrum master is a very experienced software engineer who hands out assignments and works with them day-to-day, and there has been nothing but glowing reviews. Unosquare has a range of skillsets, so there are young software developers as well as more experienced ones. Some of the relatively young ones have been superstars in their ability to turn out work, which I’ve seen personally but also heard from the scrum master.

Another contract firm we’d engaged was harder to work with, and one of our experienced in-house developers deemed the quality of their work really substandard. That developer’s regard for Unosquare is really high, and he frequently comments that he likes working with them.

How did Unosquare, LLC perform from a project management standpoint?

We have a scrum master who is in charge of handling that. The eight resources are on standup calls every morning. They know the routine in agile; it’s all about checking items off of the list, and they seem to be very good at it. Following the scrum process and having the daily standup means there is constant feedback to all developers letting them know what tasks to focus on. This environment can be hard for people to work under because it’s pretty fast-paced, but Unosquare is doing it. We can give them something that should take a day, but they’ll be done in an hour, and then they’re on to more tasks. They have good time management individually. I’m seeing work come out faster than I would have expected.

Having worked with contract software firms before, I found it was often chaotic in the beginning trying to figure out how to work with each other. Working with Unosquare is refreshing because they’re much more structured. They have a set of processes that they implement. For instance, they have an interview process for each of the developers that are going to work with you so that the team is able to see résumés, speak with them, and make decisions.

Then, Unosquare has a training process, so that if their resources aren’t quite as familiar with what we’re doing, they put them in a class. They often even have them on the project for free while the person is coming up to speed. It’s very structured and guided by Unosquare, which makes it much easier for us to work with them and get the benefit of the contract relationship.

What did you find most impressive about them?

There are two answers to that question. Firstly, the work itself stands out. There is a focus on working with the Ventacity team to establish what works needs to be done, versus thinking they know what they’re doing and just building the software out the way they think it ought to be. There’s an adherence to the UX work that we’ve done. They take the lead from our UX designer, which has been really valuable and has not been our experience with other contract firms.

Secondly, their awareness of modern design techniques in using packages like Vue has stood out. Again, that hasn’t been our experience with others.

I’d also mention that there was a major project we were working on that had a large amount of money assigned to it. Unosquare was very flexible in working with us in terms of payment. That allowed us to have a lot of really high-powered talent so that we could get the contract done. The company was willing to work directly with us in a more nonstandard way, and that was enormously important for the development.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, not really. There are varying levels of talent within the team, and by nature of contract work, you’ll get some really good people and some that aren’t as good. However, Unosquare has a set of programs to deal with that. If we comment that a resource can’t get things done fast enough, they go through a remedial process with that person, and if that person doesn’t change, they make the change. They’re aggressive about managing the account and making sure that the customer is getting what they need.

Any advice for potential customers?

As the customer, you have to be willing to tell Unosquare management what’s going on. If they know, they’ll move fast to support you and make sure it turns out well. You couldn’t ask for something different out of a contract company; if they don’t know, they can’t help. The onus is on the customer, but they make it easy. Just tell them what you think, and they’ll make it happen.

""That partnership is valuable to grow a truly effective blended team."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your company and your position there.

Our organization provides modern technology solutions for enterprise clients in the healthcare sector.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
For what projects/services did your company hire Unosquare, LLC?

We hired Unosquare to expand our engineering and quality assurance capacity as we expanded our core product's features and capabilities.

What were your goals for this project?

We were in the midst of relaunching an entirely new user experience in our platform that was followed by a national rollout to our clients.

**SOLUTION**
How did you select this vendor?

Unosquare's flexibility to add staff with a variety of roles and expertise enabled us to evolve the team with our needs as they changed with the project. Additionally, their dedication to high customer service and "easy to do business with" mentality made them easy to select and work with.

Describe the project in detail.

The project we selected Unosquare for included engineering a search engine to enable users to quickly search and browse using modern methods.

What was the team composition?

Our methodology includes blending teams of Product Managers, Developers, Quality Assurance Engineers, Analysts and Scrum Masters.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The project was delivered and rolled out to our clients on time with very positive feedback. It reached millions of consumers through our platform and has remained in place for several years following the launch.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Unosquare has the ability to deliver a "one team" experience. The difference between "their team" and ours disappeared and we had one cohesive squad delivering great features - it was a good example of a truly successful blended team.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Unosquare has a true passion for their customers and displays loyalty and dedication no matter what the size of the project. They don't just focus on the large initiatives, but will come alongside anything our organization needs help with. That partnership is valuable to grow a truly effective blended team over time.

Are there any areas for improvement?

There are always ways to improve and create more efficiencies - in my experience working with Unosqare the opportunities to improve were at the individual team level required both staff and contract team member to identify and improve areas together collaboratively.

Unosquare was selected to augment an on-site product development team for two of Cambia’s start up companies. Our goal was to increase feature development velocity at a minimal financial expenditure.

**SOLUTION**
How did you select this vendor?

Unosquare is an approved vendor with Cambia and has been for a number of years. Unosquare was chosen because of their local presence in Portland, reputation in the market, and close timezone proximity to our local development teams.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

Unoqsquare brought in development and QA resources to augment local development resources. Their scope included product feature planning, development, testing and release management.

What was the team composition?

For the majority of the time, the remote team consisted of two developers and two quality analysists.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Unosquare was great throughout the project engagement. The development team participated in daily stand-ups and sprint planning meetings. The team’s leadership offered monthly status update meetings to ensure the project was progressing. Unosquare executive leadership in Portland were constantly in touch, very interested to know how their teams were executing and if any problems were arising.

**Feedback Summary**: The developers helped add value to the client's product, delivering quality results in a timely manner. Unosquare, LLC possesses a unique company culture, going above and beyond to care for both their own team and the client's. The team is hard-working, experienced, and skilled.
""Unosquare leadership values and looks out for their team, and the culture is much more than just staff augmentation."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your company and your position there.

I am the director of engineering at a leading provider of identity protection and data breach services for companies and individuals throughout the U.S., servicing clients in healthcare, financial services, retail, higher education, and the government. We are headquartered in Portland, OR.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
For what projects/services did your company hire Unosquare, LLC?

Our company hired Unosquare to augment and add burst capacity to the development teams working on our main product platform.

What were your goals for this project?

Our primary goal was to increase overall team velocity and allow Engineering to deliver features to market faster, while maintaining the very high coding standards, best practices, and culture/values of the team.

**SOLUTION**
How did you select this vendor?

The leadership team researched and considered several nearshoring options from a variety of locations. In the end, it was a combination of pricing, their proposal, the flexibility of their approach, the company culture, and the positive experiences some on our leadership staff had working with Unosquare in the past that made the decision an easy one.

Describe the project in detail.

Once we had the go ahead to proceed with the augmentation, myself and several members of the engineering team began working on the hiring and selection process. The candidate pool, both from the bench and elsewhere, was excellent. Candidates were prescreened by Unosquare and all had solid technical and communication skills.

We brought several talented front end, back end, and QA resources into the team and began the onboarding and integration process. Throughout the entire process, we had excellent support from our client service representative as well as the VP of Customer Loyalty. These new developers then began working on features for our primary product/platform (a cloud-native microservices SAAS platform).

What was the team composition?

We brought on several backend engineers (.Net CORE), several client side developers (Angular), as well as a QA automation engineer. All of these engineers were integrated diretly into the onshore engineering group, and attended all meetings, participated in kick offs and design reviews, wrote code and performed code reviews, and were on Slack with the team during normal work hours.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Within several months, we saw the anticipated velocity gains manifest. The engineering team was able to deliver business value adding features to market with increased speed, and did so with quality.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The client services representative assigned to our account was excellent. We had regular bi-weekly meetings to discuss and get ahead of any potential issues on the team ranging from code quality to developer satisfaction and engagement. The same can be said for the VP of Customer Loyalty. Both were proactive, engaged, and responsive. Add in a group of engaged and talented engineers, and you have a recipe for success.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

One of the things that continues to impress me about Unosquare is their company/engineering culture. Unosquare leadership values and looks out for their team, and the culture is much more than just staff augmentation. It is also clear that they value their customer relationships, and strive to be an engaged and innovative partner.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Overall, the partnership is excellent. There were a few times where a bit more proactive monitoring of specific engineer's deliverables would have been beneficial.

**The Review** — May 30, 2020

**Feedback Summary**: Unosquare, LLC's projects were transformational in the automation of the client's business and drove new sales and the valuation of the company. They collaborate well with the client in terms of project management and provide regular updates. Their nearshore model works very well.
""UnoSquare has always provided highly skilled and competent resources."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your company and your position there.

I have worked with UnoSquare at two different companies during my career. In both companies, I held the position of CIO

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
For what projects/services did your company hire Unosquare, LLC?

We hired them for various outsourced custom software development projects

What were your goals for this project?

Our goals included building highly reliable software, that was easy to use, while doing so as cost effectively as possible

**SOLUTION**
How did you select this vendor?

I met one of the co-owners, Mike Barrett, back in 2003 when he worked for an offshore development company and I was exploring if offshore was right for me. Of the three companies I interviewed, Mike was the only person who was honest with me and told me I was not ready for offshore - the other two were more than happy to take my money even though I was not ready for offshore. Because of his honesty and my trust in Mike, I gave them a project when Mike formed his own company, UnoSquare, a couple of years later.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

The developed several different software applications for me through the years, including a pharmacy cost management application, a self storage management system, a drug savings program that matches patients with drug savings programs, a convenience store application, and a video production management system. They developed these applications based on my specs.

What was the team composition?

It varied depending upon the project. A couple of projects were just one or two people. Some projects included up to 6 team members. UnoSquare provided software developers, product managers, QC resources, and project management oversight.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Many of these projects were transformational in the automation of our business, enabling the business line to function in an efficient manner. These applications had a key impact in differentiating our companies in the marketplace as having superior technology, which in turn drove new client sales and the valuation of the company.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Typically, we used a model where I, or someone on my staff, acted as project management alongside a resource from UnoSquare. Our cadence included weekly project status calls, and other regular updates on progress.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their nearshore model works extremely well. You have resources in a similar timezone, not 12 hours off, with good English skills, and a good understanding of North American business and the concepts we were trying to achieve. Offshore resources oftentimes did not even understand basic business concepts.

The people they hire are experienced and screened so they only have the best. With a third party, your success it 100% tied to the capabilities of the person they put on your job. UnoSquare has always provided highly skilled and competent resources.

Are there any areas for improvement?

There is nothing major I can call out for improvement. The only area I would mention is a system to provide project oversight, which they are rolling out soon.

**The Review** — May 27, 2020

**Feedback Summary**: Within four months, the client had a portal that was easier to maintain and update and had increased security measures. Unosquare, LLC establishes friendly and professional relationships with clients to ensure a smooth workflow. The team is hard-working, creative, and personable.
""I was impressed by how they could take my description of the skills I needed and find a candidate to match them."
"

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your company and your position there.

I am the CTO and co-founder of a healthcare benefits broker based in Concord, California. At this point we employ approximately 60 people. My role is to oversee technical vendor relations, make decisions on technology used, and oversee development.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
For what projects/services did your company hire Unosquare, LLC?

Early on in the life of the company, I was one of the sole developers and created a portal to manage and report on benefits for both administrators and clients that relied on a content management portal to provide a UI template and security. As time went on, and we gained more clients, I realized this architecture did not scale well when changes needed to be rolled out.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to upgrade to the latest angular framework, create a true mobile-friendly site, replace the current security with a robust service, allow for growth within the application, and improve automation and unit testing.

**SOLUTION**
How did you select this vendor?

I was introduced to Unosquare initially in 2015. At the time, we had employed a couple developers. As time went on, I became frustrated with the hires, and eventually decided I wanted to try the staff augmentation.

I checked out 2 other near-shore firms before deciding on Unosquare. They were closer to travel to than the other operations, had competitive pricing, and I was really impressed with the culture and the way people were treated.

Describe the project in detail.

Once we selected Unosquare, we had a kick-off meeting, then I described my goals and the skillsets I wanted for the initial phase of the project. A few candidates were presented and I was able to interview them remotely, then selected those I felt were the best fit.

There was also a consultation with a designer to help with the UX, as well as with the client success manager to make sure that the goals were understood.

What was the team composition?

Initially, we started out with the client success manager, the angular developer, and a QA engineer. I interacted on a daily basis with the developer and QA engineer, as they were my team. The client success manager would contact me as needed, or every few weeks.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Within 4 months of starting the work, we had a new portal that was easier to maintain and augment, as well as better security. The workflow was greatly improved, making it easier for our staff and clients to manage benefits. We received feedback that our clients liked the new design, and the fact it was mobile friendly. In the past 18 months, we have been able to improve and add more features that differentiate us from the rest of the market.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The workflow was very effective. I get along with well with the client success and project managers, as well as the rest of the team. I have been successful in fostering respectful and friendly relationships with the team members, as well as keeping an open and honest bi-directional channel of communication and feedback.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was impressed by how they could take my description of the skills I needed and find a candidate to match them. I also appreciate the fact they invest so much into human capital - letting the employees and clients know they are indeed appreciated.

Unosquare continues to impress by finding people not only with development skills, but also with scrum management and business analysis to help me stay focused on bigger picture items.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Development work estimation needs some improvement - but that is why we are continually iterating and refining estimates and requirements. I also think that is a common issue no matter where you go. In the end, the output is what is asked for, and I can trust the quality.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement? We hired Catalyst UX to expand our current product interface. More specifically, they created a visualization design prototype that acts as a clickable demo. They took a business process that you’d see and mocked it up so that we could show the end-to-end process in a demo environment. I found out about them 3–4 years ago when I was looking for a company that does UX/UI work. I did a bunch of research as to what companies were out there, with being initially referred to Catalyst UX by a colleague. I did a sales cycle with them and many others. **The Review** — Nov 18, 2019

**Feedback Summary**: Leveraging an effective remote project management approach, Unosquare, LLC (formerly Catalyst UX) maintains open lines of communication and consistent feedback channels. The project manager handles adjustments well, letting the client dictate changes as needed. Customers can expect an accessible and experienced partner.
""I can’t speak highly enough of his professionalism and responsiveness.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.I’m the CEO of a brain-computer interface company. We’re building an implantable brain-computer interface for people with paralysis, allowing them to control handsfree devices that overcome problems of communication and upper and lower limb function.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Catalyst UX?We’re working with them to solve a very exciting UX problem, namely building a handsfree user experience that is cross-platform. We’re building a completely modular and cross-platform system that enables people to interact with existing operating systems but without the use of a mouse or keyboard. Critical in this is the UI/UX, and Catalyst is serving that role for us. We chose them because of their experience with medical device applications and their understanding of FDA regulations.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement? We’re utilizing Catalyst’s access to industrial designers and developers to deliver a user-focused UI/UX solution for our cross-platform development needs. It’s traditional technology development, but we’re targeting a patient population, and therefore, have to meet specific criteria set out by the FDA. Catalyst is going about development in a strict and highly regulated manner so that we can present our work clearly to the FDA.We’ve gone through a discovery phase, and we’re working on the design now before we begin the coding phase. Catalyst has been an early partner for us, helping us design the product at the outset. Focus-group testing has been handled by both our parties. What is the team composition? There are about five people from their team working with us. Paul (CEO, Catalyst UX) is our main contact, and he coordinates the entire team. There’s a UX designer in place, a programmer, and a few others. How did you come to work with Catalyst UX?We did an exhaustive search to find every UI/UX developer in the US who had experience with getting software through FDA approval, and Catalyst UX came out on top. We had buy-in from their founder, and that was important. We knew that they were interested in the project, and it was obvious early on that Paul had a strategic vision for delivering on the requirements of a small, early-stage startup. He’d been through a couple of major development projects and understood what I needed in order to get the next round of funding, a necessary step to keep the project moving forward. That was the real difference point, and they’ve proven capable of doing that. What is the status of this engagement? We started working with Catalyst UX at least three years ago, probably in the first quarter of 2017.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? There’s something a bit different about Catalyst. The reason they’ve been able to attract good people in the Bay Area—which is highly competitive—is that their developers are spread all over the country. Our work with them has been web-based, and it’s worked well. Our company is spread between Silicon Valley and Australia, and they’ve been flexible, especially in terms of communication. How did Catalyst UX perform from a project management standpoint?Paul is the project lead, and he’s very approachable and friendly. I can’t speak highly enough of his professionalism and responsiveness. We use Zoom and monday.com for project management. What did you find most impressive about them?Another feature of startups is that plans change frequently, and some people don’t do well with that and become frustrated. We’re changing what we want a lot, and Paul has been very responsive and flexible. As a startup, we need to control our cash flow, and, rather than bringing in our own software programmers, I’ve used Catalyst in a way that allows us to freeze their activity depending on the stage we’re at.Are there any areas they could improve? We have only positive feedback for them overall. I don’t think I have anything negative to say.Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs? We deal with medical and consumer devices, which have very different design approaches. There needs to be a complementary set of skills between those, which is challenging to get. If that’s what you’re looking for, I’d recommend Catalyst UX extremely highly. I’m glad we chose them.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?Catalyst UX helped design and develop our platform’s portal for retailers and developers. First, they did a brainstorming session with some of our development team to determine what we needed and how best to go about it. Then, Catalyst UX worked on some UX use cases and layouts. They developed the wireframes and conducted customer interaction sessions to get feedback and really capture the voice of our customer base. The project manager also did a lot of the UI.How did you come to work with Catalyst UX?I vetted 4–5 partners in the space. I told them what we were looking for and asked what they could do for us. We’ve received wonderful comments from our customers regarding how intuitive and easy to use the portal is.How did Catalyst UX perform from a project management standpoint?Catalyst UX was excellent. They were always on top of it. They ran all of the meetings, including the customer interaction sessions. The team was open to different ideas and what we had to offer. They were very good at providing feedback on how things might be perceived and utilized so that we could create the best possible solution. We were in communication with them about twice a week. What did you find most impressive about them? The way they were able to demonstrate how the portal would look and feel was impressive. Catalyst UX was very knowledgeable about what we needed. They put themselves in our position so that they could see what we were going to do with the portal and create exactly what we had talked about. Are there any areas they could improve? No, I don’t. They were awesome to work with.Any advice for potential customers?Be open to their ideas. We hadn’t considered some of the things they proposed to us, but we implemented them because they were really good. It can be difficult to step out of your own little box when you’re doing projects like this, but they help you step out without being too disruptive to what you’re trying to do.

**The Review** — Aug 22, 2019

**Feedback Summary**: They delivered a satisfactory concept on time following a thorough discovery phase. Unosquare, LLC (formerly Catalyst UX) utilizes their deep understanding of data to deliver designs that fit the specific needs of their clients.
""We were really happy with their output.""

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.I’m the founder of CEO of Valid8 Financial. We build software that's targeted at CPAs. Our products automate financial statement audits and forensic accounting investigations.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Catalyst UX?We collect complex data from a variety of sources, including ERP systems and financial institutions. We integrate that into a new data set, but it's very complex and we needed a simple way to display it. We asked Catalyst UX to provide mockups of some interactive data visualizations.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?Right now, our system output is just a file, and we wanted a user interface to view the data. They mocked up a wireframe of various new screens that would need a navigation approach, as well as the screens themselves in terms of markup. We’re going to use their output as our requirements for the development of our next UI. They wireframed using Figma, and when I logged into Figma, I could see both UI mockups along with the screens that were being designed. What is the team composition?I worked with Paul (CEO, Catalyst UX) and Kevin (VP of User Experience). How did you come to work with Catalyst UX?Our vice president of customer success had worked with them previously. Also, they had experience creating UI that leveraged financial data. Those two data points made the decision pretty easy. How much have you invested with them?We spent between $25,000–$50,000 in total. What is the status of this engagement? We worked together from June–July 2019.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? They delivered the concept. It was a very well-run project. How did Catalyst UX perform from a project management standpoint? They had useful infrastructure and they ran very specific meetings with clear objectives. They maintained their cadence throughout the project and delivered on time. We did a kickoff in person to do a deep dive into requirements and discovery. After that, we just did screen sharing. They’re very easy to work with. What did you find most impressive about them?Their understanding of both accounting and finance data at a very granular level and without a lot of background made them unique. The data design on the output was really good and we've been really happy with it.Are there any areas they could improve? Not off the top of my head. We were really happy with their output.Do you have any advice for potential customers?I don't think you can go wrong with those guys. You have to be committed to the process. If you’re doing UX design, you have to commit to the requirements development process. You’re going to get out what you put in.

#### App UI Redesign for Life Sciences Software Company
**The Project**
- Services: Web Design
- Project size: $200,000 to $999,999
- Project length: Jan. 2013 - Ongoing

**Project Summary**: Unosquare, LLC (formerly Catalyst UX) redesigned and implemented an electronic trial master file application’s UI using React, Kendo UI, CSS, and JavaScript. The team completed various other design projects.

**Review Rating**: 4.5

**The Review** — Jul 10, 2019

**Feedback Summary**: Unosquare, LLC's (formerly Catalyst UX's) high-quality design work was well-received by clients and internal stakeholders, spurring a long-term engagement. Although the billing process and sprints could’ve been better defined, Unosquare, LLC worked hard to deliver under tight deadlines.
"“The team was very collaborative; if we weren’t happy with something, they worked with us to fix it.”"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there.I was the VP of product management at a small technology company that developed software for life sciences companies related explicitly to content management, like documentation for managing clinical trials. Then, that company was acquired by a larger company, and I became senior director of product management. I worked with Catalyst UX in both of these roles.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
What challenge were you trying to address with Catalyst UX?My company originally hired Catalyst UX to redesign our dated electronic trial master file (eTMF) application.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement? For our first project with them, Catalyst UX developed the second version of our eTMF application’s UI. They built all of the screens and features that enable users to navigate the system, upload documents, and perform QC on documents. They developed the UI using React and Kendo UI, and then they implemented it using CSS and JavaScript. This initial project was quite lengthy; following that, we worked on several non-continuous projects. What is the team composition? The CEO was in contact with Catalyst UX before I joined the company, so I’m not sure how he found them. We did a proof of concept with Catalyst UX and another company, and then we put out an RFP. We chose Catalyst UX for two reasons: first, they had a vision for how they’d develop a set of reusable components; second, our engineers were more knowledgeable on the server-side, and Catalyst UX had the supplementary resources necessary to help with implementation. How did you come to work with Catalyst UX?Throughout our work together, my team worked with 6–7 individuals. Some of them worked on the technical side, and some were designers. Paul (Managing Partner, Catalyst UX) was involved from an oversight level. How much have you invested with them?My former company spent around $200,000.What is the status of this engagement? We began working with Catalyst UX in early 2013, and the engagement was still ongoing when I left my company in April 2019.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?Their work was well-received by our clients and prospects. How did Catalyst UX perform from a project management standpoint? They were mostly good in this regard. When we had tight deadlines, they put in extra effort to meet them. For instance, we needed to get a demo to an important client under short notice. Catalyst UX got us a clickable prototype in time for the demo.Sometimes, I think their designers were over-allocated and not as responsive as they should’ve been. Our sprints often didn’t have a defined scope or assigned number of hours; once, a designer used up hours we weren’t aware of. When we addressed this issue, Paul returned some hours to us.What did you find most impressive about them?Their designs were great. The team was very collaborative; if we weren’t happy with something, they worked with us to fix it.Are there any areas they could improve? As I mentioned, there could’ve been more clarity in the billing process. They didn’t give us time sheets, which left us a bit uncertain as to how much work they did.Any advice for potential customers? They’re all good, but some of their team members are more senior than others. Be aware of the seniority level of the person you’re working with; also, try to get as much clarity as you can regarding the sprints. I felt that the sprints should’ve been defined by either a deliverable or a set number of hours.

#### UI/UX Design for Aviation Company
**The Project**
- Services: UX/UI Design
- Project size: $200,000 to $999,999
- Project length: Jan. 2018 - Ongoing

**Project Summary**: Unosquare, LLC (formerly Catalyst UX) provided UI/UX design services to help make a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capability more user-friendly. They used an agile approach.

Former VP of Logistics Products Services, Aviation Company
- Industry: Other industries

- Client size: 501-1,000 Employees
- Review Type: Phone Interview
- Verified

**The Review** — Jun 27, 2019

**Feedback Summary**: In addition to being high-caliber, Unosquare, LLC's (formerly Catalyst UX's) work often outpaced time and budget estimates. They facilitated an effortless partnership, collaborating well with an offshore development team and providing frequent progress updates. The team was receptive to user feedback.
"“Unosquare, LLC (formerly Catalyst UX) was a true extension of our internal team.”"

**BACKGROUND**
Introduce your business and what you do there. The company I previously worked at is a global provider of information management software and services for defense, government, and commercial customers. We were acquired to provide world-class maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities for a large aviation company’s $20 billion annual operations. I was the VP of Logistics Products Services (LPS), the company’s commercial software division. I was responsible for all product development, maintenance, and operations, as well as defining a vision for next-generation MRO capabilities in a very competitive market.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
For what projects/services did your company hire Catalyst UX?As with many mature companies, we lacked innovative and accessible software tools. We needed to outsource a fresh and objective perspective to define the most user-friendly enterprise MRO capability that contemporary users, specifically the aviation company’s installation mechanic workforce, could easily deploy without much training. What were your goals for this project? The new MRO capability needed to vastly simplify the UX while maintaining the complex legacy capability. We wanted to add enterprise and cyber security skins so that our existing users could keep their original look, while new users could enjoy a more progressive UX.

**SOLUTION**
What was the scope of their involvement?Catalyst UX took an agile approach in their redesign of the new MRO capability’s UX and UI. My team interfaced directly with our end users, and we provided that feedback to Catalyst UX. They coded how the UI would flow. While Catalyst UX worked on the frontend, my company hired an offshore vendor to do the backend development and other coding. What is the team composition? The teams on both sides scaled depending on the effort at hand. Our internal (parallel) team had a lead technical manager with supporting managers in the following disciplines: product data management, software development, and hardware.  Catalyst UX provided a technical manager for leadership and scaled various resources dependent upon tasking, which included software developers, UI experts, and process and human factors specialists. How did you come to work with Catalyst UX?My company underwent an exhaustive and meticulous vendor selection process for this strategic effort. We initially chose over one dozen vendors, then did due diligence and compared financial and performance reviews to narrow the selection down to three. After more matrix comparisons and numerous discussions, Catalyst UX was the clear leader and preferred vendor. How much have you invested with them?My company spent somewhere in the range of $250,000–$500,000.What is the status of this engagement? The work with Catalyst UX began in January 2018. Although I left my company in March 2019, their work with Catalyst UX is ongoing.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? We primarily tracked the quality of Catalyst UX’s work and their ability to adhere to the schedules and budgets, as this ultimately affected our delivery schedule. They were considerably on or under budget for each of their estimations, and their deliverables were top-quality.How did Catalyst UX perform from a project management standpoint? They did exceptionally well in this regard. Catalyst UX’s entire team, even the CEO, was very responsive to the user feedback we collected, and they thoroughly explained their decisions. They interacted daily with our development team. We also had weekly team meetings, during which we received project updates and saw feature demonstrations. Each month, Catalyst UX provided financial accounting and status reports. They traveled as necessary. What did you find most impressive about them? The overall goal was very complex, but Catalyst UX delivered on or under budget and schedule for each milestone leading toward this capability. Having worked with many vendors, it was nice to work with a team that delivered on what they said they would. They didn’t make excuses or try to upsell. Catalyst UX was a true extension of our internal team. Are there any areas they could improve? It would’ve been helpful if they had more aviation expertise, although perhaps their lack thereof gave them a fresh perspective. Aviation’s maintenance repair overhaul ecosystem is very different from other fields they’ve probably worked in, like pharma or finance.

**The Review** — Jun 25, 2019

**Feedback Summary**: The rereleased app has achieved commercial success and wide market adoption. Unosquare, LLC (formerly Catalyst UX) was a committed partner, integrating multiple rounds of feedback and developing their own original ideas for product improvement. Their development background and cost-effectiveness are particularly noteworthy.
""They worked hard to understand our industry and were proactive in proposing solutions..." "

**BACKGROUND**
Please describe your company and your position there.I’m the CTO of OmniComm Systems, a leading supplier of web-based technology that allows pharmaceutical companies to collect and manage data for clinical trials.

**OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE**
For what projects/services did your company hire Catalyst UX?While functionally rich, our lead product looked dated and didn't support mobile devices. A UI redesign was the first step in what became a three-year project to bring a fresh new release to market. What were your goals for this project? We set out to improve the UX and add targeted new functionality and mobile device compatibility.

**SOLUTION**
How did you select this vendor? We surveyed the market, developed a shortlist of three vendors, and asked for a capabilities presentation and price quote from each. We selected Catalyst UX based on their expertise, energy, and experience with healthcare applications.Describe the project in detail. We reviewed the current application and its functionality and then drilled down into the major areas we wanted to rewrite: navigation, patient selection, data entry, and data query management. For each area, we discussed ideas and required functionality and then waited for a proposed UI and workflow. We iterated about three times on each proposal before all participants were happy. We convened twice a week by web conference, and all work was done remotely. What was the team composition? We had a team of three. Paul (CEO, Catalyst UX) was the key driver in understanding our very specialized industry and proposing elegant solutions.

**RESULTS & FEEDBACK**
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success? The redesigned product was released in May 2018 and has been a significant commercial success. All new trials use the new release because it looks so much better than the old one.How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs? You have to work at it. Catalyst can't propose a suitable solution until they fully understand the intricacies of the desired functionality. As mentioned above, we'd typically work on each topic three times to make sure nothing was missed or skipped over. What did you find most impressive about this company? They worked hard to understand our industry and were proactive in proposing solutions—a responsive layout for the main data entry page—even if we didn’t specifically ask about that area. Though we didn’t use their development arm, knowing that they had one convinced us that we could cleanly implement their UI. They were conscious about staying within budget. Are there any areas for improvement?Nothing significant.

Recognizing this, Catalyst UX uses its experience in creating intuitive user interfaces for medical devices to deliver the finest user experience.

### Laboratory Science
Catalyst UX has worked on many initiatives to leverage user experience design in laboratory science to drive efficiency and effectiveness of researchers and technicians. We’ve worked on applications to deliver efficient solutions for everything from blood testing to environmental testing.

### Fueling Business With Predictive Analytics
Catalyst UX worked with PDI on the design of a highly efficient user interface for ordering, scheduling and delivering fuel. Our client, PDI, is the leader in enterprise management for convenience and retail petroleum distribution capability across the globe. When delivery of fuel is requested, PDI uses predictive analytics to schedule and optimize delivery. The design included drag and drop features that allow the user to apply the correct fuel order to the correct truck and location as well as hazmat certified approved routes for each drop. Overall this design made it easier and more efficient to order and schedule fuel delivery.

### Making Cities & Campuses Safer
ShotSpotter is the global leader in gunshot detection, location and forensic analysis. Previously Catalyst UX worked with ShotSpotter on designing and developing their mobile and IOS applications which leverage audio triangulation pinpoints and machine learning algorithms to notify first responders, security personnel and law enforcement of gunshot incidents. The use of multiple types of audio and visual devices and the responsive UI equipped analysts with the tools they needed under any situation.
