My company is a promotion platform internet business for the music industry where artists and fans can connect. Artists can manage and monetize their content and fans can get access to their favorite artists, music and other content, all in one destination.

I am the president and founder of the company.

What business challenge were you trying to address with Techugo?

I knew what I wanted to accomplish with this platform because I had spent a number of years managing my son’s musical career, including negotiating his record label deal, artist management, and booking agent deals. In that process, I realized that there wasn't a good digital platform that artists and their business people could use to digitally manage their business.

Taking the concepts that I knew we needed to have, I went to Techugo asking them for a proposal. This included a mobile app that fans download to access the content and the band. There’s also an administrator panel used to manage the content that’s available through the app, as well as to aggregate user data tracking and segment fans into individual promotions that can be created and made directly to each fan. That’s what Techugo built for me.

They were responsible for frontend and backend development. The work included handling all the data architecture as well as the management of content and the collection and use of the user tracking data.

The application is for iOS only first, because I want to finish the feature set and confirm that we’ve got a market with what we’ve done before I have them do Android.

How did you come to work with Techugo?

We started working together about this time last year [mid-January 2015]. Prior to that, I was using Guru.com to post my project and solicit bids from developers worldwide. In that process, I had previous work done on a prototype platform by another company. They did a certain amount of work that I was not fully satisfied with. This was in 2014. We discovered Techugo's team and they made a proposal to complete the platform. That’s how I learned about them and that’s why I agreed to let them do the work.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

We are continuing to do work on the platform although the overall platform is built. I’m going to say that including those things, it’s in the $50,000 to $200,000 range.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started in 2015 and the work is ongoing.

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

One of the problems I had prior to Techugo was that the delivery commitments on the project estimates from the development people were never achieved. They were missed by as much as 200 - 300%, in terms of the number of extra days it took to do work. That was one of the things that I was most focused on when I began talking to Techugo. I needed the confidence that whatever their delivery commitment was, they would be able to honor that commitment.

What Techugo did, that no other team had been able to do before, was to set reasonable delivery dates for phases of the implementation. They had a cost that was consistent with what other developers were charging for this kind of work, but they were actually delivering on time. All products go through debugging and sometimes you get feedback from a user that says you need to make some kind of modification. Their responsiveness with that kind of thing has been excellent and it’s another thing that I really appreciate. They did some extra work for me too. They got everything loaded up onto the cloud servers so I didn’t have to hire an IT person to get all that setup. They navigated the Apple review process for me as well.

What distinguishes Techugo from other providers?

Delivering on time. With the way I work, when I ask somebody to do work and ask them for a timeframe, I let them figure out what that timeframe is. If I can live with it then that’s what we go with. I don’t try to push them into something they can’t do. But once they set it, I expect them to deliver it. Techugo is the only development team that’s been able to actually deliver what they said they would do on time.

Is there anything Techugo could have improved or done differently?

They’re so far above any other development team I’ve worked with. I’m getting great value for what I’m paying and I’m able to execute my business strategy because they’re executing their piece for me. On an absolute basis maybe they could bring more design capability into it. I have a designer that does the design work for the mobile app. It works fine. Techugo has some design resources but I don’t think they’re able to conceptualize designs. I think they’re able to execute designs. If I were them I would be moving more into the conceptualization of design work. That’s just icing on the cake though, it’s not really a deficiency.

How did your relationship with your partner evolve?

 After two years and approximately $150,000 USD spent across both fixed-price and time-and-materials (T&M) engagements, Techugo delivered a product that was fundamentally defective: riddled with bugs, non-maintainable, non-scalable, and inoperable. Among the most egregious issues, the system randomly charged real money to a credit card in production!

Code Quality Failures

The quality of Techugo’s code was abysmal:
• Functions regularly exceeded 500 lines of code, with one function reaching an astonishing 2,600 lines.
• Variables and configurations were hard-coded throughout the codebase.
• Even Techugo’s own developers struggled to navigate their own work.
• Case conventions were inconsistent, following arbitrary preferences rather than accepted standards.
• Naming conventions were sloppy, unclear, and often unintelligible.
• Code was repeatedly copy-pasted instead of being modularized into reusable functions.
• Documentation was nonexistent until explicitly demanded.

Delivery Failures
Techugo originally promised delivery within three months. Instead, after 1.5 years, the product they produced remained riddled with bugs, structurally unsound, and supported by disorganized, unmaintainable code.

Misrepresentation and Deception
Ankit Singh personally assured us of the superiority of Techugo’s T&M model. We placed trust in his promises, which in hindsight was a grave mistake. He deceived us by misrepresenting the experience and skill of his developers, as well as the firm’s overall capabilities. When the inevitable problems arose, rather than acknowledging responsibility, he shifted blame onto us.

Techugo’s deception extended further: we are pretty sure they have falsely represented themselves as a CMMI Level 3 company. Verification against the official CMMI Institute/ISACA PARS (Published Appraisal Results System) database revealed no such appraisal for Techugo.

Final Outcome:
We were ultimately forced to abandon Techugo’s work entirely, incurring significant financial loss. We had to hire our own developers to rebuild the system from the ground up.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Techugo estimated a 3-month timeline for the entire project. 9.5 months have passed and the products are still incomplete and full of bugs due to the blatant assignment of inexperienced developers disguised as Senior developers.

Due to this, we have lost investors.

Although the contract promised Senior Developers, we discovered that they provided developers who only had 0 to 3 years of experience. I would say a few of them writes code like they are in highschool and likely had no experience. One of the backend developers carelessly wrote all their code without any comments or proper structure.

As for the Project Manager, they assigned a PM who DOESN'T COMMUNICATE, CONCEALED ISSUES from the client and management, and CREATED BOTTLENECKS between developers and project requirement. One of the worst PMs I have worked with.

We had to HIRE MY OWN DEVELOPERS to FIX the PROBLEMS, and have also paid extra to transition to staff leasing.

As it stands, I estimated that over 40% of the code must be rewritten due to Techugo’s deceptions and the ineptitude of their developers.

As of this review at Month 9.5, none of the product promised are complete.

Techugo needs to remedy their execution and delivery processes to better serve their customers. They need to fix their software development and product management. Most importantly, never deceive a customer to secure a deal.

Deliver the product as promised, without any bugs.

I may update the rating once Techugo proves they can consistently delivers high-quality code and products.

The PM assigned was one of the WORST PMs I have worked with.

He does NOT COMMUNICATE, CONCEALED ISSUES from the client & management, and CREATED BOTTLENECKS between developers and project requirements.

When I raised a need or issue, he assured me that he would handle it and deliver a great product. However, when the product was delivered, I was appalled by its condition. Nothing worked and no attention was paid to the UI. Wrong fonts, colors, spacings, and transitions were used, I allowed him to EXTEND the DEADLINE 6 TIMES, ALL OF WHICH WERE MISSED.

He is merely a YES-MAN, always SWEET TALKNG the CUSTOMER and assuring them that everything is fine, only for you to discover that nothing was done correctly, and the entire project is a delayed indefinitely with no delivery date in sight.

LESSON LEARNED: If you are ever assigned a PM who constantly boasts about their skills or assures you they’ll handle everything, consider it a major red flag.

My product is almost ready for launch, but I need to raise funds first. I've been meeting with investors and have received excellent feedback. This feature was suggested by users and has garnered positive attention.

Once the funding is secured, I will begin the second phase of development with them. This next phase will build on the strengths of the current version, further enhancing the user experience and expanding the application's capabilities.

Their project management skills are impressive and highly transparent, utilizing Zoho for seamless coordination.

I receive detailed weekly reports every Friday, keeping me informed about the project's progress.

Additionally, we have two scheduled calls per week to promptly address any questions or concerns, ensuring we resolve issues efficiently without wasting time. This structured approach has made the entire process smooth and effective, allowing us to stay on track and achieve our goals successfully.

None of the items were delivered on time.  The first deliverable was the designs and they were never completed.  The PM Priyanshi said we could finish the designs in development, but that turned into a huge problem because Priyanshi's attitude quickly turned into anything not in the designs would be charged extra.

The administrator and main websites never functioned properly and were never delivered.  The project was supposed to be completed in 14 weeks and dragged on for over 14 months.  I escalated matters with the founder Ankit and while he asserted that he cared, he did nothing actionable to rectify the situation.  I lost faith in their ability to deliver the product so I told them stop development, at which point Ankit tried to extort me for additional time spent on the project before they would deliver the code they had developped.

The code I did recover was written extremely poorly.  There were hard coded urls and api keys. They do not use modern design principles and the code mostly resembled spaghetti code.  The product was completely non functional and seemed to be designed to only pass a demo that did not explore many options.

Techugo has built an AI-based software engine for us that recommends products to customers based on the inputs they provide. We're currently working with them on the third phase of the project. 

What is the team composition?

About 12–15 teammates from Techugo have been working on our project, including a project manager who serves as the main point of contact. Two senior Android developers, two senior iOS developers, two backend developers, a creative designer, a QA engineer, and several support members, like DevOps and IT administrators, were also involved in the project. 

How did you come to work with Techugo?

We contacted about 18–20 companies, and my business partners and I had multiple rounds of discussions with those companies. In the end, we shortlisted three companies and visited their offices, checked on their technical expertise, and discussed our technical situation. We ended up choosing Techugo because of their AI knowledge and portfolio. 

How much have you invested with them?

We've invested $270,000–$300,000 with Techugo already. 

What is the status of this engagement?

Our ongoing engagement with Techugo began in September 2021. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

It's now easier for our customers to choose which product to buy now that they only have 3–4 products to choose from, instead of hundreds. Our business runs very smoothly now, and our overall revenue has increased. Techugo's quality of work is fantastic. They understand our requirements well and deliver bug-free products, which is unique; other companies often deliver substandard work. 

How did Techugo perform from a project management standpoint?

Techugo uses a dedicated project management tool, and the project manager is very active when it comes to answering our queries and getting on calls with us. We've also had a few face-to-face meetings when I've been in the region. Their entire team is very cooperative. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I appreciate Techugo's overall expertise. We wanted a company that had experience with AI-powered tools, and their previous clients had great reviews for their services. I can see their expertise in their work, and I hope they continue to work as well as they have over the past year.

I have nothing for them to improve.
