We've worked with TARNOVSKI Branding for nine years, and during that time we've developed five different brands and around 40 packaging designs together. After seeing how surprisingly well our first project (Moș Zaharia) did in 2014, we decided to make them our go-to partner for all our branding work. 
They handled virtually everything we needed for our products and brands: market research, consumer insights, brand strategy, brand identity, packaging design, some marketing support and so on. What really impressed us was their commitment – they even made several 6-hour trips with us to ensure the printing machines were calibrated correctly for our packaging colors.

The results have been fantastic, especially with Moș Zaharia, the brand which helped us grow our market share by almost nine times at its peak. What's really impressive is how the brand maintains strong awareness and loyalty even when we're not running any advertising. We've had similar success with our second brand launch, and while we've developed several more brands together, those launches are on hold due to some external factors.

TARNOVSKI conducted comprehensive research, including qualitative surveys with foreign tourists, to understand how visitors perceive Moldova. Their most striking insight came from comparing feedback from European tourists, particularly Italians from Tuscany, who noted remarkable similarities between the two regions. This led to an innovative positioning strategy that framed Moldova as "Eastern Europe's Tuscany."

The campaign achieved significant organic reach despite having no advertising budget. The most notable success was that 3 years later, the concept seems to have inspired a major initiative called "Mica Toscana din Moldova" ("Little Tuscany of Moldova"), supported by the European Council in Moldova and USAID. This demonstrated the impact and validity of the positioning strategy developed by TARNOVSKI Branding Studio

For example, they could consider adding performance marketing and consultancy more formally to their offerings, since they’ve already shown they can adapt and succeed in those areas. They might also benefit from being a bit clearer upfront about what they specialize in, so clients have a shared understanding from the start, as they seem to be undepromising / underselling their experience and abilities.

After 21 years of activity, we needed a more mature brand that would help us gain trust and help us grow. We hired TARNOVSKI Branding Studio to help us position the brand as a leader in the home furniture market, and understand what we were doing right or wrong with our brand.

The TARNOVSKI team came up with a plan which included the following key deliverables:

1. Brand Research 

They did an in-depth market research to understand the competitive landscape, target audiences, and market trends in the furniture industry (there were some nice insights based on mega trend reports and on a qualitative consumer survey they conducted).

2. Brand Strategy

They also developed our new brand strategy, which included the standard items – brand vision, brand mission, brand positioning, brand personality, brand values, and (this surprised us) a detailed communication strategy per each consumer segment. 

3. New Brand Identity

They worked on both the verbal and visual brand identity – came up with a new logo and design system, detailed visual guidelines, templates and so on, but also created for us a new tagline, a detailed description of the tone of voice, brand messaging, etc.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We almost instantly noticed a significant increase in brand recognition. TANDEM Home became more visible and respected in the market. This positive change in visibility both drew more customers and also led to a noticeable shift in consumer behavior, as they became less sensitive to price. Customers began to perceive the brand as more valuable than before, reflecting a strong belief in the quality and design offered by TANDEM Home.

Customer satisfaction scores also saw an improvement, which in turn led to an increase of positive reviews from customers.

The project management was well-handled. Since the deadlines were fairly generous, there was no rush, but whenever we had questions or needed something, the team was always quick to respond. This made the process easy and straightforward for us.

We were surprised by the structured approach they take to branding. We used to believe it's a creative work, but with their unique method they proved us that good strategy is a mix of analytical and thinking, with good insights, which in turn allow them to get the creative work done without too much friction. We love their approach to branding. The agency seems a bit underpriced to me to be honest.

We had hoped for more ongoing marketing consultancy after the project, and while their availability of about 25 hours per month was acceptable, we wish they could have doubled the time allocated.

I am the Project Manager of The Moldova Project Association

The Moldova Project was founded in 2008 by three young volunteers, from the UK  (Emma and Lucy Watson) and Moldova (Victoria Morozov), who wanted to bring hope and happiness into the lives of the most vulnerable families in one of the poorest European countries, Moldova. 

Their founding efforts were met by hundreds of other people’s kindness and support, who donated time, funds, and affection to TMP’s beneficiaries, making them feel, maybe for the first time, what it is like to be a part of a caring family. 

In 2020 an entity was registered in Moldova and the UK–registered organisation closed at the end of 2021, so TMP is now governed in Moldova and able to access local grants and other benefits for its beneficiaries. Today the project counts hundreds of stories of success and innumerable improved livelihoods.
