Stellans partnered with theSkimm to replace our Redshift warehouse with Snowflake, transitioning our entire data warehouse environment to improve performance, scalability, and cost efficiency. This effort involved mapping and migrating all existing data structures, including tables, schemas, and views, as well as reworking ETL processes to leverage Snowflake’s capabilities. We ensured compatibility with downstream tools and integrations, optimized query performance, and addressed security and compliance requirements throughout the process. The migration also included training our team to effectively manage and query the new platform while minimizing disruption to existing workflows and business operations.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We evaluated and measured critical queries on our old Redshift stack to address performance bottlenecks and engineered improvements for Snowflake, resulting in significantly faster and more efficient query execution. ETL processes and build cycles were optimized to not only complete faster but also reduce costs, making operations more efficient and cost-effective. We ensured the data shape was spot-on for all required tables and streamlined materialization processes, leading to major gains in processing speed. These improvements hit our performance and budget goals, showing clear wins in efficiency, cost savings, and data accuracy.

They managed the project very very well, particularly given the challenges of working under pressure in an environment that required extensive reverse engineering of code and inherited artifacts. Despite these complexities, they were highly adaptable and responsive to our needs, consistently finding solutions to keep the project on track. When critical blockers arose, they were incredibly flexible, bringing in additional resources as needed to ensure progress. Remarkably, they adhered to the 12-week timeline, which was a tremendous achievement for a project of this scope and complexity. Their ability to deliver on time while navigating such a demanding environment was a clear testament to their expertise, commitment, and resourcefulness.

One aspect of the Stellans team that stands out is its impressive geographic diversity, bringing together unique perspectives and expertise from around the globe. While this diversity is a strength, it occasionally presents challenges in aligning communication styles, particularly when working on highly technical projects with tight timelines. Given their size, they went above and beyond to quickly address any communication gaps, so this is certainly categorized as a small adjustment. However, it would further build on an already strong foundation, making an excellent team even more effective and customer-focused.

We were able to optimize our marketing spending levels, which allowed for good ROI optimizations. With the help of AB testing tool, we were able to iterate much quicker in terms of Product Changes.
