I'm the CEO of a trucking company based in Illinois, USA. We haul different types of cargo using open deck trailers through all 48 states.

We had an initial meeting where all our needs and concerns were discussed as well as the full scope of work. Then the team presented the market research and competitive analysis. A huge work was done on it. They dived into how our competitors are positioned in the market, what terminology they use, and their values based on design and content. As a result, the main points were set, and the creative concept was developed.

The design of our web page started with gathering information and determining of main goals. Based on that and the research that was conducted previously the design team has created the wireframe. It gave us an understanding of the structure and content of our future website. The final phase included the delivery of the website layout design.

We worked with a team of 4: project manager, design director, UX/UI designer, and art director.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

There's always a fear if the agency you are working with can capture a brand's personality and vision, and understand the industry and company's concerns. Spiilka team has completely dispelled it by delivering an outstanding design solution. We are still in the process of implementing our new brand identity but see how excited our drivers are with their new branded trucks, t-shirts, and caps.

The whole team was professional and creative. We have always been kept updated on the progress. They were going above and beyond to make sure the whole process is smooth and all the expectations are met.

The design team started from the discovery phase: conduct interviews with the target audience, market and rivals analysis, UX/UI audit, and test our products. It helped us to define the hypothesis and put the basis for the big idea of the product. Then, Spiilka created the design of the main flow and initial design system.

Together we validated solutions with our tech and product teams, made adjustments, and finalize the UX/UI concepts. Additionally, Spiilka helped us with the digital identity – took as a basis our identity and scale it to our digital products, picked the new UI colors and approach to visual materials (icons, graphics, animation etc.). As a result, we had new logic of the products, clickable prototype for each, UI design of the main flow and initial design system.

From Spiilka we have a working design team that led us from the start to lauch. It consisted of the design director, who was responsible for the final vision and creating the concept, UX/UI designer who conducted the discovery phase and developed the product, and the project manager who organized the project workflow.

Our company needed to create a new identity. We wanted to update our website, visual content on the social network and create new merch.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We chose a company among many others for a long time. And we were inspired by the work of Spilka. Because the design of their projects communicates the main message of the product. It is easy to catch what the product is about, what tasks it solves, what audience it is intended for.

Having talked with them at the first meeting, we liked their culture, approach, and ease of communication. There was a feeling that we were well understood and offered the right solutions. After the first meeting, we realized that we definitely want to cooperate with them.

The first stage was an online meeting, where we talked about our team, culture, how our work processes are organized, what kind of relationships with clients, what kind of projects.

The second step was to fill out the brief. Then the guys prepared a roadmap with dates for the entire design development period. And since that period, we started to move step by step according to the plan.

Two weeks later the team presented the design approach. There were several options and all options were quite bold and well-researched. There was no feeling that one option was the main one, and the others were secondary. After we approved our design approach, the guys started developing the design of the website, digital, merchandise.

Two months after the launch, we received a logo book with our new identity, which included recommendations for the use of fonts, colors, placement of the logo on various types of digital and merchandise, and a variety of images in social networks. We realized how well our new identity scales well across the web, digital media, social media and merchandise. After a short time, the team finished with the design of the website.

Our new identity fully reflects us. It looks modern, it has style, which is not similar to the styles of many IT companies. We receive positive feedback from customers who visit our website. Our team just loves the new merch design! They are happy to wear T-shirts, hoodies, backpacks.

An important feature of Spilka's team is an attentive attitude to the task and its understanding. They immediately caught the essence of the task at our first meeting, when we told them about ourselves and our goals. Therefore, our workflow was well-coordinated and worked well. We also had a roadmap that we followed. And I want to note that we did not have frequent calls, because the guys understood what needed to be done.

One of the main goal of the Ministry of Digital transformation of Ukraine is to completely change the logic and approach of the state to the interaction with people and make it convenient, invisible, and human-centered. We approach to spiilka with several tasks:

1. To create product big idea, UX, and design for the public service portal that contains all government services and gives the possibility to order them right from an electronic device. As well to create a personal account for every citizen with all documents and requested services. 
2. To develop the concept, UX & UI for a mobile application that will keep all electronic documents in one place, along with full access to public services, transparent communication with authorities, and voting with the app. 
3. To create a design system for all governmental websites of Ukraine.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We held a tender among the best design agencies in Ukraine. We chose Spiilka because of their expertise in digital products from research to supporting the product after the launch, in-depth analysis of digital instruments, and clear vision of how to create a completely new product. We liked buro’s portfolio and focus on design, the convincing level of designer’s skills, and well-knit partnership with clients.

Since this is a completely new product at the government level with complex stages, initially we created a working group. We held constant product sessions to synchronize the results of the agency’s investigation, the capabilities of the State, and the aims of the Ministry.

Our work was built according to the following flow: the design team took as a basis our research with government services and questionnaires with citizens, made the analysis of similar products in other countries, proposed a UX concept that defined the key product idea. We verified it with our product and technical teams. Then, Spiilka moved on to the UI concept and development of the entire product. Such flow was relevant to digital portal development and mobile app development. The difference was in the research complexity and the specifics of product.

As the digital portal is web platform with a universal access point to all electronic public services in Ukraine, and mobile application is the State in Smartphone with all electronic documents in one place.

We worked with the small design team of four: the design director, who was responsible for the final vision and overall products consistency, two UX/UI designers who developed the product, and a project manager, who organized the process and integrations with different teams.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Diia app reached the 10 mln downloads’ mark during the first year after launch. The Ukrainian electronic passport in Diia is legally approved for use on the territory of Ukraine like the paper one. It’s the world’s first electronic passport approved on the legislative level.Together we created the UX&UI for different use cases registration for Covid-19 vaccination, taxes payment and declarations, fines and admin fees payments, place of residence registration, and some documents replacement or repair.

Together with Spiilka we created the general design system for web and mobile governmental sources.  And as a result, digital portal Diia and mobile application Diia were awarded by 3 RedDot awards in such categories as UX&UI and Mobile Application.

We like the friendly approach within the team and their communication approach with us. The team does not build a project in the format of "Customer" and "Executor". They are fully involved and interested in the result and worked as a design partner. I like how their process is built. They do not try to sell the idea but tell and explain what and how it works. It helps to develop the product in the future.

A clear and transparent approach to complex products. Great involvement and interest in the product. Honesty and friendliness in communication. Ability to create attractive design

We chose Spiilka design buro because of their experience with similar tasks in legal business, the ability to work with complex tasks, their portfolio and how they match engineering approach with visual appearance.

Spiilka started with a research - analysis of the best practices in our category, analysis of former website and target audience. As a result, developed a persona (detailed portrait of the target audience), user cases, and user flows. It turned out that the TA reached the website either through field of expertise, or through the profile of the partner lawyer, or the world’s rankings of companies. Depending on where the user comes from, we customised the content to the user.

After approving the concept of the site, the team moved on to developing a full-fledged site. Most companies in our field choose stock photos and standard content. The team offered to go with a business magazines layout, hold a photo shoot and show the real atmosphere of the company.

In a result, we got the digital product that reflect our company values - without unnecessary decorations, images from photo stocks and incomprehensible texts. We differ not only from competitors in the local market, but also internationally. Also, thanks to the structure of the site, it is enough just to add new sections and update the content.

spiilka design büro rebranded our health and fitness apps. Initially, they did design research, a UX/ UI audit, and a competitor analysis. The main objective was to identify consumer needs in relation to fitness, yoga, and meditation. Based on the results, they developed a brand model and positioning for our apps.

After we described our brand essence, they developed our visual identity. They’ve provided wireframes, design development, and custom illustrations. They’ve also implemented the new brand identity to our meditation app. The latter is still a work in progress.
