What challenge were you trying to address with Slanted Frame?

We were primarily looking for two things. First, we wanted help with copywriting and blog content, like tutorials and guides, to help our users understand our system better. Therefore, we needed Slanted Frame to help not only with SEO, but also clarifying our offering to our customers. The second thing we needed was assistance with our email campaigns.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The primary focus is to create content for us on a schedule. Slanted Frame started by creating 2–3 pieces of content a month for our blog and help center guides and tutorials.

We’re building up a backlog of content. Some of it has been published, but we’re holding most of it for release at a later date. At the moment, Slanted Frame does copywriting and content creation for us. They also assist us with our outbound email campaigns, using Intercom as our CRM tool.

I made a request on Facebook saying that we were looking for talented copywriters and content creators. Somebody commented that we needed to check out Slanted Frame and gave me their contact information. I reached out directly to Dan (Managing Director) and got on a call with him. I was immediately impressed with his thoughtful approach.

We started working together in October 2020, and it’s ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

It’s hard for us to show the actual business impact since most of the work hasn’t seen production yet. There are long-term aspects of the project that will be important for SEO and building documentation. However, Slanted Frame has been awesome, and we’re very happy with them. We couldn’t ask for a better team to work with.

How did Slanted Frame perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicate through Slack and have a weekly call. Our calls are focused and dense, so we get a lot done.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Slanted Frame has the willingness to really understand our business, which is critical. We’ve worked with other companies in the past, and they have a cookie-cutter approach. In a fast-growing startup, it’s important that everybody involved in content creation understands the business objectives and functions. They have a real desire to dig deep and ask questions to get to the bottom of our goals.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I’m happy with what they’re doing. If I had constructive feedback, I’d provide it.

Any advice for potential customers?

First of all, I wouldn't want other people to take much of Slanted Frame’s time because I want to make sure that we still have as much access to them as possible!

As for somebody who’s looking to get the most out of Slanted Frame, I’d say to just take your time upfront to make sure that their team is well informed as to what the fundamental goals of the project are. Also, treat them like you’re bringing them into the team, and help them to really understand the business — that's what’s worked for us.

I’m the managing director of a candidate engagement solution company. We offer a technology solution backed by a managed service. It’s an AI-based chatbot that we built, and it’s backed by a live recruiter to help companies recruit candidates more effectively.

This solution allows companies to rapidly engage candidates when they come to their corporate careers page. The product isn’t available in the market yet because it’s fairly new.

What challenge were you trying to address with Slanted Frame?

I partnered with Slanted Frame to build on a marketing initiative. We needed help building out our website, marketing collateral, and marketing strategy so that we could start building awareness in the marketplace about this solution.

What was the scope of their involvement?

First, Slanted Frame worked on a marketing plan. When we were building out this plan, we wanted to target two major industries. The first one is small- and mid-sized tech companies because they always have challenges when it comes to hiring, and the second one is educational institutions because they always struggle to find new students to enroll.

Then, Slanted Frame helped us build our website. They modified and enhanced the template we had, and they built the pages and the content to target those two markets. They set up the branding guidelines, site structure, site tags, and site map. In general terms, they got the website organized, clean, and up and running, which was pretty big.

Slanted Frame also helped us create sales collateral for a recently hired sales team. They've been very helpful. When starting a new project, especially something that people aren't familiar with, the biggest competition is the status quo and the lack of understanding of how a service like this can benefit a company. A lot of our efforts have been around educating the marketplace about our solution.

Slanted Frame also helps us with SEO. The team set up Google Analytics to allow us to track the site’s performance and the number of visitors it gets. We can now see where people drop off of the site and what pages they visit the most.

We’ve been working in phrases and have already done a lot of the initial work. We’ve started building out blog content to do marketing campaigns on social media sites. Now, we’re pivoting our attention to building a customer following, so we’re building our newsletter content to get more subscribers.

What is the team composition?

Dan (Managing Director) is my main point of contact. I know there’s a team of 6–12 people behind him because there’s always a lot of ongoing work, especially related to content creation.

How did you come to work with Slanted Frame?

Dan is part of my network. I also run a recruitment consulting company, and I met him through one of my clients. When I stopped working for that client, I looked around for someone to help me with this new initiative that I was launching. Since I had worked with Dan before, he seemed like a natural fit, so I decided to give Slanted Frame a try.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around $20,000–$30,000. The marketing plan was a few thousand dollars, and then we started a monthly subscription model.

What is the status of this engagement?

The marketing plan has been in the making for over a year. We started working together on it in January 2020, but then COVID-19 happened. We took a break from the project and started again toward the end of 2020. The engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

When we started working with Slanted Frame, our online presence was virtually non-existent — nobody knew who we were. We’re now seeing a lot of activity on our site thanks to their SEO efforts and getting us set up on Google.

Also, a lot of our clients and prospects are from the US, and that’s a market we’ve been targeting. We’ve been seeing a lot of leads from the US since we started building our sales process and sales funnel. We’re getting more visitors to our site, which is a good sign.

How did Slanted Frame perform from a project management standpoint?

I don’t know the details because I’m focused on growing the business, but I believe Slanted Frame uses Trello internally for project management.

We have a weekly call scheduled with them. We also have a shared Drive, where every week we review the content that’s developed and the initiatives that we’re taking.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The most impressive quality about Slanted Frame is their personal approach to marketing. One good thing about them is that they listen to what I say. If I have other ideas, they don’t just take them in and try to build something out of it. If it’s necessary, they tell me if it’s not the best idea, and I’m fine with that.

Other companies just agree to what you say as long as you’re paying them. Slanted Frame listens, responds, and criticizes. They want to make an impact, and they’re invested in my success — that’s what I appreciate.

Are there any areas they could improve?

At this stage, we’re still building it out, so it’s hard for me to say what they could improve upon. It would be good if we could get more results faster from a sales standpoint, but I know they’re not responsible for that — my sales team is. Their efforts go hand in hand with the sales team’s efforts, so it’s hard to judge that. 

Any advice for potential customers?

Listen to what they have to say, and be engaged with them. Ask a lot of questions to know why they’re doing what they’re doing — ultimately, that’ll yield a lot of results.

I’m the co-founder and CEO of a telemedicine healthcare company called Your Doctors Online. We provide qualified doctors for patients according to their needs. The range of our specialties includes sore throat, sexual health, and skin or abdominal issues.

Our business model provides a subscription for our patients to access a doctor 24/7. However, the biggest challenge was customer retention. We needed help increasing our lifetime value for our customers from the existing two and a half months to a period longer than six months.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Slanted Frame created an overall marketing strategy to boost our customer retention. First, they went through our customer journey map and looked at the patient's journey from the time they registered to the time they spoke to the doctor. They broke down this journey into percentages of engagement and identified gaps and challenges. Then, they implemented the strategy to increase our customer engagement using Google SEO, Facebook marketing, etcetera.

It was mainly through word-of-mouth. One of our shareholders worked with Slanted Frame before.

I first met the Slanted Frame team back in December 2019 but we formalized the engagement in February 2020, and it’s ongoing.

We tried a couple of KPIs to measure success. First, we looked at the number of users acquired. Then, we focused on registrations and conversions, which is the number of people downloading our app and purchasing our services. Lastly, we looked at the retention rate, which increased from 30%–55%. 

How did Slanted Frame perform from a project management standpoint?

We used Trello to check and maintain all of our deliverables and tasks. In order to manage all of our internal development activities, we used Jira. Finally, in terms of marketing, we used Semrush. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I found Slanted Frame’s expertise in customer retention and user onboarding a rare commodity. They got into the mind of the customer and implemented strategies to accomplish our engagement goals. They offered more than just regular digital marketing, which greatly benefited our organization.

In addition, their team took our project seriously and helped us execute it successfully. They were great at identifying technology gaps and providing solutions. They had a hands-on approach and worked with our development team directly, which meant that we didn’t have to intervene every step of the process – I found that amazing because it permitted me to handle my own responsibilities.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We’ve been very happy with Slanted Frame, which is why we stick with them and have them on a monthly retainer basis. We haven’t found any deficiency or aspect that needs to be improved. They’ve been good and active.

One specific piece of advice that I have is to stick to marketing because that’s where Slanted Frame has the most experience. Furthermore, marketing can be broad, so I suggest being very specific with requirements and having a defined goal to make the engagement more valuable.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Slanted Frame has helped with our messaging and brand positioning. We started with discovery sessions, in which they interviewed some of our existing clients. From there, they helped us define how we wanted to position ourselves, what our key messaging should be, and how to focus all our content, including for video, sales, blogs, and our website. 

Part of the work also includes helping us with guidelines and how we should project ourselves in advertising. They mostly help with how we’re perceived and how we position ourselves depending on our target audience.

There are multiple phases to the content that we create. There’s a sales team, who does outreach over the phone and email, so the positioning of the messaging has to be consistent. In this sense, that’s where Slanted Frame has helped us refine our entire messaging and made sure we were consistent in our advertising, emails, on our website, and in our services.

They also provide some sales strategy and customer segmentation services. When it comes to building the structure of the sales team, they’ve been involved in that, too.

I’m glad that I chose them to work with. With the refined messaging, we’ve definitely increased our team’s confidence in the content they’re producing because they know why they’re doing it. We’ve seen a better response to our sales activities, as well, since we refined our messaging for our target audience. 

Their work has helped us improve our meeting bookings from 5% to 10%, doubling it. At the same time, we were able to focus on fewer accounts and have the same results, or even better. On the website, we saw an increase in better quality leads, too, because of the improved messaging.
