BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the director of operations at a development company. We specialize in medical offices, commercial retail, and mixed-use residential buildings.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Shawn Talbot Photography?

Initially, we needed help with our brand recognition. We were a new property management asset business, and we were just in the process of acquiring assets and building new properties. We didn't have any collective assets to showcase our properties from both a marketing perspective for potential renters and from a general knowledge base.

We needed somebody to step in and showcase our properties in the best possible way so that we could get our marketing efforts started.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had general ideas of how to best show our primary living space and bedroom, but it was rudimentary at best. We discussed our ideas with Shawn Talbot Photography, after which they designed the shot list and the whole plan of execution for the day. They brought all of the props and handled all of the styling and lighting. They also did a virtual walkthrough and took drone footage and standstills. They got us some outstanding footage along the front of our property showcasing the beach.

After the shoot, Shawn Talbot Photography provided us with all of the raw footage for us to go through and pick our favorites. After we selected what we thought were the best bits, they added a few additional photos and did all the editing. After that, all the assets immediately became our property. The assets have been advertised on our Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, our company websites, and then throughout our booking engine. They’re distributed throughout Booking.com, Expedia, and Airbnb out there in the hotel world to go to all the major travel agency platforms.

I worked with Shawn (Owner) and his assistant.

How did you come to work with Shawn Talbot Photography?

I used to work in hotel operations, and I worked with a management firm. They had actually acquired Shawn Talbot Photography’s services based on all the unbelievable feedback they had received from Canada-wide hotels. I was introduced to Shawn Talbot Photography through that firm. When this opportunity came up, I immediately thought of and reached out to Shawn.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $20,000 CAD (Approximately $15,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from September 2019–March 2020.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The assets were everything we needed in a visual aid perspective to drive our brand awareness and introduce our shore residential property. The property was a brand new 103-unit apartment complex, and the photo assets became invaluable because they showed the true nature of the property and all its inclusions. Because we couldn't execute virtual or in-person tours, the assets became a send-out to every applicant that we've had. Thousands of people have viewed them now. I don't have statistics on the outreach, but I know that the assets have directly led to immediate conversions and, ultimately, consumption and involvement in our projects.

All of the shots were really clean and open. Shawn's eye and his ability to edit and capture a broad view shot is probably the sole contributor to why this project’s been so successful.

How did Shawn Talbot Photography perform from a project management standpoint?

Shawn Talbot Photography performed exceptionally well in terms of project management. Their scheduling was quick, and their actual project execution was phenomenal. They put everything together within a week or two and worked efficiently throughout our engagement. They’re also very communicative, personable, approachable, and a lot of fun to be around.

We typically communicated through phone calls and email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Shawn Talbot Photography definitely has an eye for making the best out of the worst. We’re impressed with their editing expertise and ability to sculpt the shots to produce an outstanding product.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I don’t think there’s anything they could have done better.
