Semiflat was instrumental in getting our early ideas off the ground! I worked with their team to build out the following:

1. Our marketing website. They did the design and implementation in Webflow (you can check it out here at www.doss.com) 
2. Our v1 product design. This meant tons of UI / UX research, tons of wireframes, and probably 100+ pages of Figma screens. Ultimately, this became the foundation of our current product design which we launched to our customers in 2023. 
3. v1 of a component library and design system. This was a great jumping off point for our engineering team and myself so I could get ideas into Figma and our webapp even faster.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

They just absolutely CRANK out great work. I think it's hard to "measure" design output the same way you can with other forms of work, but I've never been so blown away with the pace and quality of work as I was with Semiflat. Anytime I evaluate design work now, I think "How fast would Semiflat have done this?"

They're always more on top of the project than even I was. I think their Project Management skills are top notch. One area where I was especially impressed with this was that the designers themselves are excellent at managing their own time -- they don't even need to "managed" by some kind of PM. 

I was able to give them highly vague objectives and they broke it down for me into chunks of work and just got it down. When you're working with a team of contractors, this is literally a dream come true. Nearly zero-effort, high-quality work getting cranked out while you get to focus on other things.

The team came up with ideas on how to implement features and screens on our website, changing the product's design based on our feedback until reaching the final design of each feature.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Semiflat really understood the problems we needed to solve. The team was active and became a thought partner, which was very helpful. Semiflat delivered high-quality work.
How did Semiflat perform from a project management standpoint?
Semiflat met our fixed budget and was responsive to our revisions request. Our deadlines were delayed because of the requested revisions, which wasn't necessarily negative because we were aware each revision takes time. We had weekly meetings and communicated using Slack and Loom videos. Semiflat used Linear to manage tickets.
Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?
Paulina (Senior Product Designer) did a great job — we liked working with her.

What did you find most impressive about them?
Semiflat understood the urgency of our project and was considerate in that sense. Semiflat tried to embed with our team members and worked in a collaborative way.

I can't think of anything for Semiflat to improve.

One difficulty that I encountered with the Semiflat team was a lack of a deeper understanding of the technical aspects behind their design decisions. As a developer with limited UI/UX knowledge, I would have greatly benefited from more detailed explanations about the technical reasoning behind the different layout options presented. This additional insight would have helped me make more informed decisions. 

It's important to note, however, that this need for technical depth in explanations may not be a sentiment shared by all my team, but for someone with my background and interests, such information would have been particularly valuable.

For this task, Semiflat was instructed on helping us ideate and design the entire no-code app functionality. This includes the creation of the UX flow for the highly complex no-code app consisting out of the traditional enterprise features (org management, team management, user management) as well as the AI part of our business (agent workflow creation, agent management, training, cluster management, data simulator creation and more). 

As well as translating this complex UI towards a design system and its corresponding UI screens.

The items were mainly delivered on time, but as is normal during ideation phase the scope kept on changing from our side as well. Semiflat handled this professionally, stuck with us and kindly changed everything we requested. The budget was variable and not fixed.

What struck us during our collaboration is how pro-active Semiflat is! The Semiflat employees think with us and care about our needs in the finest detail possible. Definitely not being a small task as we have a highly complicated Application to build. They deepened themselves in the matter we provided each time knowledge was lacking and worked on providing the best experience possible for our users.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Semiflat could have done differently?

Semiflat is so eager in their work that it is sometimes better to communicate more so that not "too much" is done. This way we can more easily tune everything and steer what has to happen more often.

We hired Discovery Web to design an e-commerce platform to sell high-dollar items. Initially, we did an exploration of the look and feel and brand aesthetic. 

They also updated the logo. As we worked with stakeholders, they came up with ideas like marketing, landing pages, advanced search interfaces, filtering around search results, product cards for lists, and product detail pages with photo galleries, pricing information, and a number of calls to action between financing and requests.

 I used to play ball with their owner, so we kept them in mind when we needed to do some industry research.

We’ve done a lot of optimizations along the way. The first rating is 9 out of 10, and the second rating is 10. We started from nothing, and there have been a few improvements. I don’t compare it to nothing, but it’s much better

How did the company perform from a project management standpoint?

 I was able to deliver on their address. They set the bar very high. They were implementing far faster than we were giving them requirements. Generally, we gave them some feedback and by the next morning, we had three new versions. We communicated mostly through Slack and Figma.  

What did you find most impressive about them?

 Simmons Web Design is a team of critical thinkers. Every time I work with them, they're excited about the project and excitedly work. That's what I look for in a partner.

No, there aren’t any.

 It would’ve been good to have some more accurate expectations of how long things will take. Simplot’s timeline is very nit picky.

Our project scope consisted of full product design. Wireframing, multiple iterations, and emphasis on 5-6 overall steps. The middle steps took the most time, energy, and communication as we had many different thoughts and intentions for the structure that our designers had to work through.

My team worked with a project manager, two designers, and occasional input from the founder.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We are very pleased with the deliverables from the team. They did everything we requested and were quick to respond and collaborate. We are very pleased with their talent and skills, and how Semiflat took our very lengthy brief and made it manageable for our requirements.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Our teams were very communicative and had no hesitation in reaching out with questions and concerns. As we were slower with our response time, they were very accessible and responsive. The workflow had a really nice and respectful cadence.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We were blown away by their turnaround time. We had quite a few changes/lengthy requests in the midst of our project and they did an incredible job professionally handing our changes and getting back to us.

We were satisfied on all fronts throughout the project.

I’m the founder and CEO of Subscrify. It’s an e-commerce API that allows users to subscribe to an online item, like shampoo or contact lenses; this way the customers don’t have to remember about buying them. Users can also manage their subscriptions on the app.

We wanted to create an MVP for first users and showcase it to investors.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Semiflat Studio provided us with UI/UX design services. Our startup gave them a clear vision of the guidelines and the web app functionalities. We also showed them some design inspirations, but nothing specific. They worked on the graphic design front with Sketch, and helped me choose the company’s color palette, fonts, and logo. 

Our workflow consisted of several iterations with exchanges of ideas to finally come up with results that would make the client happy. 

What is the team composition?

My main point of contact was Mikolaj (Founder).  

How did you come to work with Semiflat Studio?

I met Mikolaj at another design studio. When he started Semiflat Studio, I decided to work with them.

Our partnership lasted from July–August 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The co-founders and I have been very happy with the results. That’s the first and most important metric for me. We had a nice process where we came up with an idea and their team would develop on it, delivering work that received positive comments.

The investors have been impressed with the design, and we are currently negotiating a term sheet. The team achieved our goal, which was to have a design good enough to attract investors.

How did Semiflat Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

We had a weekly call and communicated constantly by Slack.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Semiflat Studio delivered world-class design. This was a great value for us; we now look like a top-of-the-line startup. When I work with a design studio, I’m not looking for them to do just their job. I want them to be creative and unconventional — the team had that extra creative spark that helped us stand out.  

We had a very professional environment in terms of communication, deadlines, and compensation. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

It’d be great if Semiflat Studio could expand their design services a bit more than just UI/UX design. They helped me with branding, but they could also do business cards or email signatures design. That would be a nice and complete package of design services. 

Any advice for potential customers?

I’d advise them to go with a clear idea of what they need and let the team contribute with their creativity. We had a good partnership because I knew what I wanted. If we were to do everything from scratch, it would get pretty chaotic. Even some sketches with pencil and paper are good enough for them to start working on the project.

Nic from Semiflat was extremely receptive and organized when we first talked about the project. I found him off of a freelancing site. He was responsive and proactive, which was a great start.

Once we decided on the scope of the project, we signed the contract. From there, we met several times on calls and online to discuss how each feature of our tool would be built and the specific functionality. Nic had a quick turnaround time and the work was extremely impressive.

I worked with Nic alone and team did not grow. There was no need for additional support for our project.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Within the prototype being built to now, we've had a lot of success in gaining new clients from the prototype alone. Additionally, we've gotten a lot of compliments on the UI/UX design done and the way the features and platform was laid out. We are extremely happy with the work from Semiflat Studio!

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Communication and managing expectations was not a problem between us and in fact was on-time and honest. We primarily used slack through Semiflat studio as our communication tool.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was blown away by the knowledge Nic from Semiflat had and expertise when it came it UI/UX and being proactive about what would be best and work best for our company. I highly recommend!! The team is responsive, talented, and has a great work ethic! I have every intention to continue using Semiflat Studio for our prototyping needs moving forward and in fact have started a new project with them recently.

I am the founder of an early-stage software company. We are building a buyer collaboration platform. It serves a similar purpose as a project management tool except it manages the process of evaluating a product or service, gaining consensus on a solution, and assisting with purchasing processes.

We needed a design team to help with our UI/UX.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Semiflat Studio provided UI/UX design consultation for us. We started with a discovery phase. To begin I shared my vision for the product and talked about why it was needed in the market. They asked questions and consulted on how to bring that vision into reality.

They didn’t handle the design in its entirety, rather we collaborated on the initial designs. We started with lower fidelity wireframes to map out the core user experiences. Once we finished that, we moved to high-fidelity wireframes to bring it to life. They helped us with the branding and interface of the platform as well as a landing page and logo.

What is the team composition?

My main point of contact was Nick (Founder & CEO). His team reported to him, but he was the only person I ever spoke to. 

How did you come to work with Semiflat Studio?

I found them through Dribble. I interviewed about 10 different designers, ranging from individuals to agencies, before deciding to work with Semiflat Studio. I was impressed with their portfolio and got the sense that Nick understood my vision very quickly.

Our engagement ran from November 2020–February 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

It’s early days here, but their work has really helped me communicate my vision with potential partners, developers, and other key stakeholders. I’m usually able to share the design work with people, and it makes it immensely clear to people what we’re building. Their work is very intuitive and speaks for itself.

How did Semiflat Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

Our teams held weekly meetings over Google Meets and communicated daily via Slack. To collaborate on the project and outline the scope, we used Google Docs.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The flexibility displayed by Semiflat Studio was impressive. At one point in the project, I had some constraints on my side. Nick was very understanding and able to work around them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I was really wowed by this experience, so nothing comes to mind.

Their core competency is SaaS apps. If that’s what you’re looking for, they’re a fantastic option. They provide other services as well, but that’s their true strength.
