I am the founder and CEO of Clonar, a service that helps users manage their subscription services. We started about four months ago and are based in Amsterdam.

What challenge were you trying to address with SapientPro?

Our team primarily consists of backend developers, so we needed a frontend team to help us build a native iOS app for our platform.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Their scope was limited to frontend development. We provided them with product specifications and built the backend of the platform, and they were tasked with all UX/design elements in building a frontend that could integrate with what our in-house team had created.

What is the team composition?

I worked with a project manager and three developers.

How did you come to work with SapientPro?

I sent out a few inquiries on various community channels and startup groups looking for recommendations on frontend development companies. I turned down a few requests before SapientPro approached me, and they seemed to have a good combination of skills for the project.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve invested between $2,500 and $3,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in December of 2017 and completed development in the beginning of February. The product is now going through testing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We have yet to launch the app and have not yet gathered user data. However, the quality of work overall has been very good. They’ve delivered with very little deviation between my expectations and the outcome, and we’ve really appreciated that.

How did SapientPro perform from a project management standpoint?

They were excellent communicators from the beginning. Skype was our primary mode of communication, but we also used email, chat, and had regular conference calls. We started off using Slack, but that didn’t work out for a variety of reasons. They reliably met deadlines and worked very transparently. We experienced a fair amount of scope creep throughout the project, so we had a few negotiations on what the original scope encompassed and what needed to be added on. Those conversations were very easy to have, and they were very accommodating.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were very easy to do business with. When they pushed back on any of my directives, they had very solid reasoning. They were very professional in the way that they approached things, and both the project managers and the developers were great to work with.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could’ve done a slightly better job in outlining what they would offer during the post-development process upfront. Towards the end, testing the product became somewhat of a hassle. This is a common problem that disconnected development teams face, and we were happy with the app after its completion. There were also some language barriers between our team and theirs, but it never got in the way of development. All in all, we had a very positive experience.

Advice for potential customers?

I would recommend that new clients make sure to specify the services that they’re looking for during the post-development phase.

Every other development company I talked with did not want to use the SEC.gov API because it's relatively old and out of date. The team at SapientPro insisted on using SEC.gov because relying on another service would just create a middleman and introduce cost and risk into the feed unneccessarily.

SapientPro's most impressive skills were their high professionalism and flexibility. We were late in our capacity as a Contractor to provide a Payment Processing Account but Sapient Pro showed no negative reaction and awaited our team to set the issue with Payment Processing. Then they implemented the integration quickly.

We wanted to build a central database for email lists that had third-party integration into ESP systems.

The project included a number of development steps. SapientPor built our central database with integrated third-party ESP systems. They also worked on our list import system, management console, and email contact management tools. All of these things had to be done in a secure way.

We now have a usable system in place.  The project is still in progress, but we have been very happy with the results so far. The team provides consulting advice to us every day.
