We had 12 epics scoped and we wanted those completed and the integrations of over 120 games as well as payment processing for payment and redemption.

Rise App has managed our project effectively, using Scrum with weekly calls and demo days to keep everything on track. We communicate daily through Slack and use Notion for all our product documentation, which helps keep our team aligned and the workflow smooth. Rise App is always quick to respond to our needs and adapt to changes, ensuring timely delivery of all milestones. Their straightforward and supportive approach makes them a great partner in our development process.

While Rise App excels in many areas, one aspect they could enhance is the maintenance of project management documentation. Updating our project documentation in Notion more consistently throughout each phase and ensuring that completed epics are promptly logged in a sprint database would streamline tracking and improve transparency over the duration of long-term projects. This adjustment would help ensure that all components are accounted for and easily reviewable at any project stage.

We have no experience in the tech industry and were looking for a party to provide us with as much support as possible. Rise app guided us from A to Z and closely collaborated with our developers. They have been open and transparent and always sought solutions. 
The project turned out to be more complex than we expected, but they have successfully delivered it. Dmitry is an excellent project leader. He understood our wishes very well and managed to translate them effectively within his organization. Meanwhile, the initial users have received the app positively.

The users who have been granted access to the app as part of the initial pilot are immediately enthusiastic about its use. There is a lot of interaction in our recipe app, what they really like.

The project took longer than expected. This was due to various reasons, both on our side and on the side of Rise app. Overall, throughout the entire process, I had the impression that Rise app made efforts to deliver as quickly as possible.

As a small business owner, it was quite nerve-wracking to enter into a contract with a party I had never met in person. Communicate more clearly upfront that the costs for the discovery phase are not included in the development costs and are separate from them.

The team delivered the project despite a challenging situation, including the ongoing war in Ukraine resulting in a challenging infrastructure environment (electricity, internet connectivity), taking over a codebase from a previous vendor with many unknowns, but by far most impressive was the dedication from the team including management to deliver good quality work and get the job done. Where required, the team worked over weekends and night shifts during the product launch.

• quality assurance and project management: once we took over quality assurance and project management, we increased velocity by 2x.
• cost controlling and time-to-market: most challenges including technical debt and complexity of database architecture was realized too late resulting in delays and budget overrun. A proactive, diligent assessment of codebase and database architecture could have enabled the team to take proactive measures and provide more reliable time and cost estimates

Initially, we hired Riseapps to accelerate the speed of documentation and UX/UI ahead of our product leader's maternity leave. We needed to leave 3 months of work documented and ready for the engineers to pick up and work independently on the product pipeline. It was a massive feat that Riseapps expertly executed by working around the clock. 

After this experience, we expanded our collaboration with Riseapps by also bringing an engineer onto our team to work alongside our internal engineers. We couldn't hire fast enough and Riseapps made it easy to plug the gap in resources to execute on our product pipeline.

The deliverables were to ensure an appointment could be booked, that patients could sign up, that patients could sign in, and that patients could be diverted to specific intake questions based on their answers to previous questions. We also wanted admins to be able to book on behalf of patients.

• Since the project completed, we've booked 462 patients to date which has allowed us to accrue revenue and test our hypothesis that patients have unmet needs in the ObGyn category.

Dmitry has been an excellent team player as well as a highly knowledgeable expert - he wrote the entire project from scratch. They were highly responsive to our needs as a team and extremely knowledgable about programming and the needs of our patients. He also gives good team feedback whenever possible as he understand what is required to build a high performance team.

• However, we had a hard time with a backend resource (Hluschak) who wasn't really qualified enough to work on his tasks, we provided him with a feedback but it didn't work, and he left without giving a handover

Project is still ongoing but a lot of features are live in the company.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We searched online for tones of agencies and shortlisted four. For us the deciding factor was: reliable organization, technical skills to get the job done, price, english fluency, and cultural fit.

We handed over wireframes, flowcharts, and a document with requirements. Deliverables was user registration, personalization, goal setting, meal tracking, and analytics. We used serverless AWS lambdas, Python and Swift.

There were always 5-7 people working with us. Project manager, solutions architect, backend engineer, ios engineer, and QC.

In 6 months we had the app up and running in beta, did some user testing, iterated on feedback and launched to the Appstore.

We had weekly checkin's with the PM once or twice a week and bi-weekly sprints with the team. English skill were good, sometimes a bit challenging with IC's, but nothing we couldn't handle.

Their iOS development were really good. Our app uses a lot of different logic and analytics. They were able to execute what we wanted with no problems.

I think communication could have been more detailed and clear.

For what projects/services did your company hire Riseapps, and what were your goals?

We wanted to create a React Native app to work on both iOS and Android that allowed Contractors to be able to manage projects and create job postings that would allow Workers to view, apply, and join jobs in their area.

The goal was to create a high quality app that is both reliable and easier to maintain and iterate on over time, rather than rush to market with an app that works today, but is inflexible or more buggy.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I searched online for React Native developers, both individual and agencies, and found Riseapps and interviewed them to see if there was a suitable fit.

We wanted to use a staff-augmentation model where we hired one or two senior React Native developers to work alongside a Tech Lead we already had working on the project (hired elsewhere).

Main deliverables were Story implementations including automated unit tests and manual acceptance tests (whilst we work on implementing fully automated end-to-end tests which we attempted but found to fragile so had to park that for now). Technologies used were mainly: React Native, Expo, TypeScript, AWS Amplify, AWS AppSync.

One React Native senior developer is assigned to this project.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We are currently beta testing our MVP app. It's taken about 18 months to get to this point, but that was due to resource constraints of only have 2 developers assigned to the app development, and myself leading the project from a technical perspective whilst also being responsible for the backend software development until we release and start a revenue stream.

It was a slower than anticipated schedule, but we are bootstrapping the project so cut our cloth according to our resources. Development has gone well but has also been more complex to implement than I naively anticipated.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They are very responsive. They also provide stability. We have had the same developer for over a year because we've been very impressed with him especially compared to other developers we tried, and so keeping him engaged and productive on our project has been a priority to us and Riseapps has assisted us on that.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Hard to tell, but some early candidates we interviewed and trialed didn't work out and we spent a little while before we identified the current developer we have working on the project, who is excellent. So perhaps more internal vetting of their developers to match their clients' expectations ahead of interviews and trials would be appreciated, but that is not a trivial thing either.
