I am leading a research project that had just completed the pilot phase. We wanted to share our initial findings with relevant stakeholders to inform them about our project and invite them to participate in the next phase.

I wanted to work with a company based in Birmingham - where Aston University is located - to support a local business. The biggest deciding factor was my initial conversation with Umesh - the founder of Pulse Pixel.

He was honest in that my request was not so typical but I could tell he was genuinely interested in my work and wanted to take on the challenge of something a little bit different to what they normally do. He also offered a discount off their standard price for the length of video I wanted in order to meet my budget.

After my initial discussion with Umesh and agreement to produce the video I was quickly passed to his colleague, Manisha, who led my through every stage of the process with professionalism and enthusiasm. At every stage of the process I was kept very well informed and communication was very strong.

The storyboarding was perhaps the most challenging part as I soon discovered that we had quite a lot that we wanted to communicate within a short video. The team worked with me to edit down the storyboard and script so that we kept the main essence of our message and trimmed down on other parts without compromising on our overall goal.

The whole thing was very pleasant and cooperative! For the animation stage, I was happy for the team to use their expertise and instincts to produce the draft animations and I couldn't have been happier with the outcome - they 'got' exactly what I was looking for even if I couldn't necessarily put all the ideas into words. Finally we had the voiceover - I did have quite a clear idea of what I wanted here (especially in terms of the accent) and Manisha quickly found several artists who fit the description, making the selection really easy for me.

After that we only had a few very minor edits and then the video was ready. All very well communicated and delivered on time!

Manisha Jnagal was my main point of contact - she was brilliant, very responsive and happy to take on even the most minor and pedantic requests I could come up with!

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

I shared an earlier draft of the video at an international academic conference and received very encouraging feedback from other researchers who were confident that the video would achieve its aims. We are now ready to share the video with stakeholders as we plan the next phase of our project.

I hadn't used the Basecamp website before, but it was very easy to pick up, very intuitive, and each message also came over email making it easy to keep track. I got on very well with their communication style and allowed us to work together efficiently and in a friendly manner!

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We were impressed with their ability to creatively interpret a challenging brief and the responsiveness of their communications.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

It would have been great to meet the team in person since we are also based in Birmingham, but the online interface worked really well and I can't think of any improvements.

There is quiet a few of us in the team and with Marketing there can be alot of forth and back. We had a first initial meeting with key figures in the department and Pulse Pixels were so great in advicing how we should proceed with each stage. They made the script part, the questionnaire part, the meetings part so easy to handle and it allowed me to set up regular meetings with the team to ensure that we were all aligned on the message of the video.

Pulse Pixels should an immpecable patience in their work with us, we were delayed due to several factors and the project took a bit longer to complete than we had hoped. Pulse Pixels never once made us feel rushed and understood us through and through. They delivered an outstanding video that captured such a great message about the product.

I worked with Manisha and Umesh, Manisha was the head of this project. Goodness, she was brilliant. A breeze to work with, and things were so straight to the point with her. We had a few feedback sessions but never once was one of these sessions difficult or hard to fix. One of the easiest people to work with. As we have just started using the video, its hard to comment on this section just yet but the overall response is positive and great!

Thorough and easy. They hade basecamp as their communication tool and it made the communication easy. You could upload things there, share thoughts, ideas, voice overs, script etc.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They took their time with us and really captured our product even though it might not have been their area of expertise. They suggested good ideas to improve our vision which made the final video turn out great!

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

For this project no, I cant fault them for anything!

One of clients wanted to demonstrate a new service offering of theirs. The service offering was quite complex, and featured several different key benefits which needed to be communicated simple and easy to digest format. The video featured heavily across the clients new website, social media, and various other channels.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We looked for video production companies locally that produce high-quality animated explainer videos at a reasonable cost. We needed a provider that would work flexibly with us an an agency, rather than forcing us through their standard process. We also wanted a partner that we could work with strategically over the long term and build a solid working relationship with.

Flexibility was key for us, so it was important that we were able amend Pulse Pixels standard processes to meet our clients needs. As such, we worked directly with the client on the script. After reviewing the script, the team at pulse pixels created a full hand-drawn storyboard and put forward suggestions for voice over artists. Once both were approved, we moved into the first stage of visuals, which were static animations of each frame. After reviewing those, we moved into the final stage, animation. This is where the static animations came to life and we could fully visualise the end-product.

Who did you work with and what was the feedback process like?

We mostly worked with Manisha, who was the project manager. Pulse Pixels are great at setting project timelines upfront, and being very clear about when feedback would be required to ensure that project timeline was met. Having this clarity enabled us to properly resource on our end to make sure we hit our deadline. Manisha was great throughout, extremely responsive and a great communicator.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We hit our deadline for the client to coincide with the launch of their new website. The client only had very minor amends to the video and was really pleased with the finished product.

The project manager Manisha was extremely responsive and very proactively drove the process from start to finish. We mostly communicated on Basecamp, which helped keep all feedback in one place.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The output of the work was excellent. But as an agency, what we appreciated most was the ability to properly set expectations and tightly manage the project.

No, everything was great throughout.

We were introduced by a mutual contact we had worked with on previous projects.

We started with a discovery meeting which resulted in a draft script before moving to the following stages such as graphic style, illustrations, voiceovers, animations, etc. The process was really easy to work through at every stage.

Manisha was our project manager. The feedback process was very smooth and everything was delivered ahead of schedule.

It's only been 24 hours since we released the video but all of the feedback has been really positive. Their video does a great job of simplifying our technology so anyone could understand what we do.

The approach which involves the client at every step ensures that there are no changes required when you get the final product, and there are no surprises. The team delivers a really high end product which is very competitive in the market.

What challenge were you trying to address with Pulse Pixel?

We needed an explainer video that would identify, within 90 seconds, exactly what our product offers. We wanted this on our website so that any visitor could find out how we could solve their problems, so we hird with Pulse Pixel to help us out.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The video itself consisted of the customer journey and identified pain points that they will experience. It then showed the solutions we offer, which are the software we provide.

There were three people that we worked with: Umesh (Founder & CEO), the scriptwriter, and the project manager. 

How did you come to work with Pulse Pixel?

I googled explainer video animators in the West Midlands and Pulse Pixel came up. I actually recognized the name because I used to work from a coworking space in Birmingham and Umesh was working from the same office. We knew each other personally but I hadn’t realized that he was in that specific line of work.

I saw that he had five-star reviews and knew that he was personable and had a good work ethic, so I felt that Pulse Pixel would be the right choice for us.

What is the status of this engagement?

We initially started in March 2020, and the video they worked on has been completed last February 2021. We’re now just waiting on all sides to give us the go-ahead to launch the video.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The explainer video was really successful. We shared it internally with a lot of people who hadn’t worked on the project with us. Everyone’s been really impressed and blown away by how quickly we can get to point of our product.

As for the people that did work on the project, when we got to see the final product, we were all very happy with how it turned out. It was very professional.

How did Pulse Pixel perform from a project management standpoint?

The deadlines were always met and our communication was amazing. Pulse Pixel would get in touch with us frequently, especially if they were waiting for things from our end. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Pulse Pixel was proactive in getting our feedback and made sure that they had made all the necessary changes in a timely manner. The team took all of our comments into consideration.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I honestly don’t think there’s anything they could’ve done to improve their service. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Have a good idea of what you want to achieve before you go in. It’s going to work better if you know what kind of outcome and style you want from a video. Pulse Pixel can definitely bring their own ideas, but they can come up with something even stronger if you lay the basics of your vision.

What challenge were you trying to address with Pulse Pixel?

We engaged with them for an explainer video that could communicate our services more clearly. It would ideally be displayed on our website for marketing purposes.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We wanted the video to be between 1–2 minutes long, preferably on the shorter side. Additionally, we tasked them with creating something that could be broken up into snippets.

That way, we could utilize the content on future marketing campaigns without having to create new creative assets. We also wanted something shareable that could be effectively leveraged on social media. While complying with those requirements, they created an animated video that included voiceovers.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The video was exactly what we were looking for and functions as the marketing asset we desired. We’re using it on our website, in our marketing emails, and on social media. Wherever we have a web presence, the video has been used. That’s allowed us to secure much more business, providing us with a great ROI.

Whenever we ran into issues or needed small changes, the problems were smoothly corrected.

They delivered exactly what they promised, perfectly managing our expectations throughout the project. The quality of work was better than what we paid for as well.

I can’t think of anything based on my experience. The process was smooth.

When creating a video, you need to define a goal. Make sure to clearly explain that to their team, and they can take it from there. That will allow them to tailor the video content to meet the goal you’re hoping to achieve.

Our company needed explainer videos to explain our value proposition, and how we achieved that value prop in an easily understandable way.

What were your goals for this project?

We used the videos to explain our value proposition, both at conferences, in our website and via social media promotion. This education approach was designed to help sales pipeline as well as grow awareness with some basic education about machine learning and analytics in cybersecurity.

How did you select this vendor?

I evaluated several firms via remote interviews and viewing samples of their work. Pulse Pixel has the best follow-up, as well as the best offering samples for enterprise grade explainer videos.

We engaged with a project plan in mind, with a set of scripts written and then animated by the video team for a set of videos. We started with the scripts and a set of shared drawing board animations. Then each video there was a initial version which was reviewed, and we shared feedback via written documentation and screenshots and some rough sketches of adjustments. After a couple iterations, the complete set of videos was complete. It was a very streamlined easy process working with Pulse Pixel.

See above - it was iterative, and the feedback and project management were primarily electronic and asynchronous in nature.

Pulse Pixel found us. We just happened to be in need of their services and they had all the right skills to do it.

We first provided Pulse Pixel an overview of our company, marketing and branding assets, and our main objectives for the video, as well as examples of videos we liked and disliked. After that, Pulse Pixel created a script for us to review and refine, followed by a storyboard of the video for us to review and provide detailed feedback on.

Furthermore, Pulse Pixel created a prototype of the video and then the final version based on our feedback. They added subtitles to the video per their suggestion so people don’t need volume to be able to watch it. Additionally, they offered recommendations on how and where to use the video to further attract customers.

What was your vendors' project management or feedback process?

Pulse Pixel leveraged Basecamp for the management of the project. It worked great and they definitely have their process nailed. Communication was always timely and spot-on.

As a co-founder, I’m very busy running the business. Their communication was always clear, concise, and added value, which I greatly appreciated. Chichi (Project Manager, Pulse Pixel) was the project manager for the project. She was fantastic and made the whole process easy.

We have the video live on our website and it’s attracting customers. We’re in the process of incorporating it into our social media posts and other marketing and customer communications channels.
