BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CEO of a small startup. We got funded by an investment company, and we develop mobile games, mostly focusing on management simulations.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Post Physical?

I was working on small prototypes with two people at a time, and I wanted to scale up. Post Physical helped me build a team in Ukraine and got things running.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We focus mostly on fast-turnaround small game concepts. We start from the idea phase, determining what the core mechanics will be — I come up with ideas, and Post Physical helps me iterate on them very fast. They then give me overviews of the tech stack needed and they handle development and management. I would also like to add that there’s no documentation needed at the beginning of each project.

After that, we iterate on ideas and build game prototypes. We iterate on design paths, but more from a creative perspective, on what works and doesn’t work and why. In addition, We develop our Android and iOS games using Unity.

What is the team composition?

We work with Leo (Founder & Developer) and he takes care of project management. We started off one to one, and we ramped up to 5–6 people in the end, including a QA tester and three developers.

How did you come to work with Post Physical?

I work with people from all over the world, and I was starting to implement a change in the development style. One of the people I work with spoke to Leo, and he approached me about doing something together. He was exactly the kind of person I wanted to work with, so we gave them a small project — it worked out well, so we scaled up.

How much have you invested with them?

So far, we’ve spent a total of €250,000–€300,000 EUR (approximately $290,100–$350,800 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Post Physical in January 2019, and our partnership is still ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The app we built with Post Physical got roughly 3 million downloads over 15 months, and it made us a profit.

How did Post Physical perform from a project management standpoint?

We talk on a senior management level, so I’m not into the day-to-day things. However, communication with them is always easy, and we work well together.

We’ve had the standard complaints that exist with every distributed development model. One person won’t understand the other, and people will complain when something goes wrong. That’ll happen with any team in the world, even if they’re in the same room — it’s all good with Post Physical. We communicate by Slack and phone calls. Leo is easygoing and good at communication.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’re impressed by how quickly they work.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Ukrainian people can be pretty stubborn, but we’ll find that with anyone except for some braindead freelancer that only does what the client wants. It’s good to have discussions and hear them when they don’t think something is a smart idea. It can be frustrating, but it’s absolutely needed in game development to check twice that we’re doing the right thing. Leo’s very good at telling us things that we don’t want to hear.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

If you want to work with Post Physical, you have to be fast and deliver input and feedback constantly. We work with Post Physical on a head-to-head level, and not downward. if we don’t work with them on their level and make them a partner, we won’t have any upsides in the partnership. We’ll just have some slaves that do what we think is right, and it never ends well.
