• Enhance, modernize, and extend a web-based platform supporting systematic reviews of medical publications, health evidence contribution workflows, and user account management.
• The project also focused on maintaining and improving the existing Java-based platform, modernizing legacy components, and gradually decommissioning systems that were no longer required.

• Maintenance of a mission critical legacy monolithic application
• Developing replacement applications or adapting off the shelf technologies for individual capabilities of the monolith
• Carefully adapting the monolith to hand over responsibilities to these new applications, including data migrations
• Rebuilding a separate legacy application (Ruby on Rails) to our common technology baseline (Java / Spring boot)

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We were eventually able to retire our legacy monolith without any negative impact on critical business processes, and the team also delivered important new functionality along the way, allowing us to turn one of our internal applications into a source of revenue.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

We worked together for many years and as you can imagine many unexpected things happened from all sides. They were always very professional and capable in handling these situations, for example adjusting team size to changing needs and budgets. They are also excellent at finding new engineers that are a good fit for the project and team and sprints ran smoothly day-to-day and month-to-month.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They excell at finding the right people for the job and making sure the unexpected doesn't impact their customer's ability to deliver.

Are there any areas for improvement or something PerformaCode Inc. could have done differently?

Sometimes the engineers are reluctant to provide constructive criticism on proposed features and designs, e.g. in feature refinement. I think this could be encouraged more, although there is a trade-off involved. It is also something that usually improved with time on the project.

The scope involves the full-lifecycle development of embedded firmware for industrial computing units and specialized cooling control systems used in high-density datacenter environments. This includes initial hardware abstraction, implementation of control algorithms for thermal management, control loop optimization for cooling efficiency and ensuring long term system stability under industrial conditions.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

The project is managed using and Agile approach with regular status updates. All key deliverables (architecture, code, documentation) are delivered on time according to the project schedule. Even when hardware prototypes were delayed, the team adjusted the development sprints to maintain the overall timeline.

Their responsiveness to our needs is excellent. We maintain a transparent communication channel using Teams, Outlook, Online/Onsite meetings which allows for quick feedback loops. Even when requirements change during the project, the team reacts proactively and proposes adjustments.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their proactive problem-solving approach is unique. Instead of just following a task list, they actively suggest optimizations that havent' been initially considered. It is more like a partnership than a typical supplier-client relationsship.

Are there any areas for improvement or something PerformaCode Inc. could have done differently?

The collaboration is very successful and the project is handled very professionally. There is no real area of improvement. An overall improvement could be an earlier involvement of the firmware team in the hardware design phase to optimize firmware-hardware alignment.
