Capturing interviews for an online investor campaign video. We needed someone to make sure the footage and audio was captured flawlessly and beautifully, and that the subjects were interviewed with care and curiosity.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I was searching through Google to find a last-minute option. I browsed through dozens of websites and instagram pages. I was looking for a portfolio of well-crafted cinematography and strong editing. I also needed to find someone who worked in a similar field, who would understand the methodology of telling a corporate story.

A campaign video is conceptualized, and then a list of ideas is distilled into a rough script. The script is broken out into sections, or threads, and then questions are generated to prompt the interviewees to comment on the specific areas. Other video elements are storyboarded, scheduled and captured.

All of the media is gathered and edited based upon the script, and then the final version is found as a result of numerous blind reviews and refinement.

I worked with Project Manager, Danny. He was attentive and inquisitive.

We gained hours of beautifully-captured interviews that will be woven into the video.

This was a different timeline, as the project was urgent (day of first contact). Danny received my call and requested on-site contacts. He kept everyone up to date on timelines, and offered to be available further than my needs required.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They had an effective call directing service. During the setup of production, Danny sent a mobile video of the setup, describing the tools and capture settings. They offered proxies upon delivery, speeding up the editing process.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Not that I can note at this time. I imagine it would be an add-on service that they may offer, but synced video with a light colour grade would be great.

The Clinica is a beauty brand that has a cosmetic clinic, as well as an e-comm shop that sells beauty products. I am a Video Content Manager for the brand.

Starting January 2021, The Clinica wanted to create content that resonates with our audience. Video is a very effective format to tell stories and so we were looking to scale our content production with video.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We researched online for video production companies based in Toronto and specifically looked for those that could handle all aspects of production (from start to finish). As we also had plans to do regular shoots, we wanted a company that is reliable, able to deliver on a quick timeline and can do so on our budget. After speaking to Origin Films, they were able to do all of that.

Since working with Origin Films, we've been able to release multiple videos on our various social channels. As I am the Content Manager, I start the production process with ideas for videos that reflect The Clinica's goals and messaging. From there, I would take the idea to Origin Films and they would then advise on how they think is the best way to approach it (from a narrative perspective, and also technical). Origin Films are very easy going and open to all ideas.

After the ideas for content has been confirmed, Origin Films would create a technical plan (for gear, lighting set up, etc) and would help find and book a set if needed for that specific shoot. Day of production, Origin Films handles all aspects of recording - directing, operating cameras, lighting and recording audio. In terms of post, they have reliable editors that are communicative and capable of quick turnarounds. Origin Films are very respectful of company deadlines and have always been able to meet them.

Who did you work with and what was the feedback process like?

The Clinica are very happy with the quality of video that Origin Films have been able to deliver. Working with Origin have been a very smooth process, and they are always open to feedback. Whenever I have to give edit notes or feedback, they are quick to make the changes I've asked for or help troubleshoot wherever needed.

Our YouTube channel has been able to consistently put out content that promotes our brand's messaging. The videos are also shared on our other social platforms like Instagram and TikTok and have gotten 1000s in total views.

Origin Films are very communicative and easy to reach. They often take initiative in setting up meetings and times to connect and follow up. They've also go out of their way to provide resources to help the projects that we're working on.

Origin Films are really great at diving head first into projects, even in areas where they may not have covered before (like cosmetic treatments). They show great passion and initiative, with a willingness to learn and accommodate. They also really impressed me with how at ease and confident they make me feel before every production day. I can always trust their team to deliver high-quality work.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

If I had to choose an area for improvement, I would encourage them to take even more initiative in the pre and post production process to help think of ways to elevate the content in more ways than was originally planned!

The video is set in a club where the story follows a guy who notices a girl trying to get his attention. The guy acts like he isn’t interested but inside his mind he actually is. The process of creating the video involved story boarding and visiting the set before hand to better understand the story and what shots will be used.

Origin Films was able to being a photographer, an Assistant Director, and of course themselves which included a director and camera op.

The success was immense and I am very proud of the end result. They were easy to work and communicate with and could have asked for a better team.

Lucky Sevens Gaming Inc. Owns the new casino game Seven Sevens (formally know as Lucky Sevens). I am the CEO of LSGI and oversee the daily activities involved in selling and marketing the game.

We hired Origin films to help script, record, and produce a commercial for Lucky Sevens, and record and produce a tutorial video for it as well.

What were your goals for this project?

To create these videos with a limited window of time, and to create both at a high caliber on par with industry standards.

I reached out to several video production companies, and none were as friendly, affordable, and quick to respond as Origin was.

The intention of the commercial was to create an eye grabbing elevator pitch of the game that can be used in emails and conventions to potential clients. The staff at Origin were prompt to go over ideas and concepts and smoothen the scripting process with me. Once the script was made, they gave a list of all the preparations needed before the shoot, and were at the forefront of ensuring every requirement was met.

On the day of the shoot, they were the first on site, quick to install equipment, and were beyond friendly with all the actors and actresses. They were very effective at communicating their vision of the project, and helping everyone involved channel their roles. Once everything was shot, they were the first to shake everyone's hands and thank them, and the last to leave the site, ensuring a proper clean up was completed.

The production itself was done far quicker than expected, and the end result was something better that I had ever hoped for when I started the project. The process for the tutorial was nearly identical, minus the script, however they still aided in the revising of the script for clarity to the viewers.

Throughout the process there was consistent communication and an exchanging of ideas, even right from the moment I first called them up about a new project. They were always open to new ideas, and the first to spring forward with enthusiasm when they had ideas of their own. But at all times they professional and compassionate when it came to both giving and taking advise, ensuring everyone's feedback was appreciated and welcome, regardless of it's usage.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Within the industry, I've had nothing but positive feedback on the videos, namely the commercial. While tutorial videos are common, commercials aren't for new games, so when executives have seen the video, they were often blown away by the quality and professionalism.

The moment Danny and Pouya introduced themselves on set, everyone's nerves translated into excitement. They combine experience and professionalism with a positive attitude you only wish you can get from anyone you work with. The results speak for themselves, as they bring out the best in everyone they work with, even if it's their first time meeting them.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their quick response time and clear passion and interest in every project brought to them was far better any other company I have ever worked with.

Are there any areas for improvement?

This took me a while to think of, so I believe that says a lot in it's own. I suppose if they had their own studio at the time I worked with them it would have been nice. That was years ago though, I'm unsure if they have one now!

I work as a Marketing Executive at a tourism company. The main objective is to promote Thailand as a preferred destination for Canadians.

Every year we participate in the Pride events across Canada, and bring in Thai LGBT KOLs (ie. pageants, Drag performers etc.), wanting to showcase Thailand as an LGBT-friendly destination.

Each year we run different marketing campaigns such as press tour, roadshow and Pride stages. We had the opportunity to bring the winners of RuPual Thailand's Drag Race to Pride Toronto in 2019 for mini shows and Pride stages, and wanted to capture the fun and joyous moments during the special weekend in the video format.

What were your goals for this project?

Our goal was to have a short (3-5 min) video and some photos, edited in a fun and festive tone that we could use to promote our key message of inclusivity further on our social media channels and future events.

How did you select Origin Films?

The marketing team initially started looking for a video production company via internet search, but were quite concerned about the flexibility of the work. We had some negative experiences with production companies in the past, and can be quite demanding in terms of the process/paperwork as an extension of the Thai government.

So we started asking around among friends and colleagues for recommendations, and that's how Origin Films was introduced to us. Danny and Pouya were easy-going and genuine and flexible which were the most critical factors in choosing a company to work with our rigorous system.

Once our head director approved the hiring process, we started discussing the video concept and mood/tone, as well as all the documents required for the Thai government.

It was a fairly small project, so we didn't get into writing a script or a storyboard. We also wanted to leave room for their creative touch. As a result, we received a short fun video of the pride Toronto events and a large number of excellent quality photos.

However, we requested some additional editing post-production and gave the final approval on the background music.

What was your vendors' project management or feedback process?

They provide a two-person shooting team and followed the Thai performers to show stages, our booth and parade during the two-day project.

After the shooting weekend, they provided us with a first draft and allowed us to request for multiple edits after, which we were extremely grateful for.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We shared the final video on our social media platforms and our trade partner newsletter, and received positive feedback from the audience. We were surely satisfied with the final result.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Danny and Pouya were incredibly easy to work with. As previously mentioned, we understand that our process and requirement can be much demanding, and that often leads to conflicts or inflexibility when working in the creative field.

But the team tried their best to accommodate our requests. Much appreciated. The work was also delivered in a timely manner.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We have worked with many video production companies, big or small in Thailand and Canada.

Origin Films was one of our most positive experiences as they were easy to work with and seem to value long-term relationship with the organization, which is undoubtedly wise when working with traditional/conservative companies like us.

The willingness to discuss and flexibility would allow them to be up for consideration for our future projects again.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They’ve handled pre- and post-production services for the videos. To start, we had a call to discuss our goals and then we met up to film everything. Before starting, their team laid everything out clearly, so we knew how the shoot was going to go. 

They came to our location, shot at three different spots, and edited it all together to showcase what our business is about. This video took about six weeks. They’ve helped with other videos for our Christmas party and end of year event, too.

Our company’s visibility has greatly increased; people know who we are now because of our videos. Overall, we’re just getting more attention from people, which is great and helps us get clients.

They’ve been really great. Their team is always early when delivering work. For example, they said we should expect to have the final product in 6–8 weeks, and they did it in the lower end of that range. They’re good and easy communicators. We primarily speak through email and phone calls, so I can call them whenever I have questions.

I feel really comfortable working with their team—I want to work with them even when I don’t need a video.
