We partnered with Motion Source to help us create a 5-minute video celebrating our organization's 10th anniversary and our impact over the past decade. Motion Source traveled with us to three sites to interview former program participants, former employees, educators, and our current executive director. After, Motion Source edited our video and delivered two versions (one with captions, upon request).

We recieved incredible feedback from the folks who attendeed our benefit and viewed the video as part of the event program. In addition, we highly value what a wonderful experience our staff and video participants had collaborating with Motion Source over the past several months. Everyone has nothing but positive things to say about their warmth, professionalism, and dependability. After two years of working with Motion Source, we consider the team part of our family!

The Les Turner ALS Foundation has worked for many years with Motion Source so there wasn't much educating as far as what we were looking for. Michelle and her team's responsibility was to produce a high quality and impactful video with the subjects that we presented and to effectively display the Foundation's role in their lives.

Although not shown in our videos, Michelle has superior interviewing skills and consistenly has achieved our goals each year. She also collects b-roll that we are able to re-use over the years, when needed.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

This video is rolled out each year at our annual gala, and we continue to use it throughout the year and beyond in our marketing campaigns, on our website, etc. We have always received positive feedback.

Motion Source was tasked with assisting in creating questions that filmed subjects would be asked on film. The questions needed to be thoughtful so the story of the client's experience with us was able to be told in a manner that was clear to the audience yet comfortable for the client to answer without pressure or potential retraumatization. 

Motion Source was also tasked with setting up the filming location in a manner that would be aesthetically pleasing on film and place necessary subjects in focus at impactful times. Motion Source was additionally tasked with capturing B-role in and around our office that would add but not overpower the story being told.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The videos created by Motion Source are used as tools to communicate the work that our nonprofit organization provides and have been determined to be invaluable. Many mediums are used to communicate the work that we do to our community of supporters so it's difficult to pinpoint the exact moment, or medium, that created a thought shift in a contributor. 

These videos, though, are our one real way of directly connecting our donors with those we serve. With videos being the most popular medium to communicate nonprofit needs, though it's not exactly measurable, we are fully convinced that the videos that Motion Source has created for us have successfully connected our donors with our mission in a way that the written word is unable to do on its own and, thus, has increased our annual donations and strengthened the connection our supporters have with the work that we do.

Motion Source was timely in all of their communications and was upfront from the start about what was needed by them and the timeframe that they required it as well as what they would produce and when we could expect those items. Every single deadline and timeframe were met exactly as they were outlined and any issues - even when they had no impact on cost or time - were communicated with the utmost transparency.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The personal connection I was able to have with the team overall - not just our "point person" really speaks volumes about Motion Source. We felt we were more than a client to them; they were a part of our team and vice versa. 

As a nonprofit, we work with individuals who have been through some of the most traumatic moments in their lives, and there is a special skill that is required when working with people who are in the midst of re-telling their traumatizing stories. You have to be patient, kind, and extremely thoughtful throughout the process and the team we worked with at Motion Source contains all of those characteristics seemingly effortlessly.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Motion Source could have done differently?

Including closed captioning as a project, default would be ideal but we worked together to create a solution that was super easy to navigate and without friction.

We partnered with Motion Source to create a video highlighting the important work we're doing for the people we serve. The video was shown at our annual luncheon as a fundraising tool. We scheduled two days full of interviews and b-roll to allow for the team at Motion Source to have enough time to pull the important clips and quotes from each interview. 

Motion Source provided two cuts for our team to review and makes changes to but we didn't even need them. They hit the nail on the head with the first cut and we hardly changed any of it.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The reaction from our team, donors, board members, and clients. The video portrayed everything we wanted and the team captured our mission and values perfectly. Over the years we've had many videos created and this was hands down our best. On multiple occasions our staff shared that the team at Motion Source was their favorite, they felt most comfortable with that team, and liked their approach best. This was especially important when interviewing vulnerable clients.

Motion Source delivered everything on time if not early. They were available to answer every call, text, and email. They arrived early and prompt to the shooting locations. Due to the nature of our work, we had last minute changes and they rolled with them without hesitation and adjusted as needed.

Their work ethic is top notch. They took the time to understand our mission and the people we serve. They never once rushed a client or asked questions that were too difficult for them to understand or chat with. They made everyone feel comfortable behind a camera, when that always isn't the case.
