What challenge were you trying to address with Mighty Giant?

We needed help producing seven videos for one of our clients, a telecommunications company.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our creative team conceptualized the project. We were looking to use the videos in educating customers about the latest in fiber broadband technology, discussing the benefits of its use. Each video was about two minutes long, and they detailed topics such as internet speed, reliability, and connectivity.

From there, Mighty Giant produced our videos using computer-generated imagery (CGI). They created 3D models of houses, apartments, and rooms, and they developed camera movement throughout the house so viewers could see the wifi hub working. For some parts, we used 2D animation to explain the science behind the technology. Their team also handled the videos’ voiceover, music, and sound effects. 

Mighty Giant’s videos are used for customer marketing. If someone is thinking about upgrading their internet connection, they can use these videos to learn more.

I worked with five resources, including a creative director, a project manager, and a designer. 

How did you come to work with Mighty Giant?

We searched for animators and CGI specialists in Manchester. We found three companies and approached them to partake in our bidding process. We ended up choosing Mighty Giant since their initial proposal was very strong, and they even created a test video for us.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about £78,000 (approximately $102,000 USD). 

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from May–August 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Senior folks in our agency commended our decision to use Mighty Giant. Meanwhile, the end client was pleased with the high quality of the videos, which were delivered on time and within budget. I had been 100% satisfied with Mighty Giant’s work, and they exceeded my expectations.

How did Mighty Giant perform from a project management standpoint?

Mighty Giant’s project management was top-notch. They made the process easy, and they were very helpful throughout our partnership. They were also very flexible despite our changing goalposts. 

We communicated through Zoom calls, and they were available whenever we wanted to speak to them. We also used Google Docs to share information, and they had a tool for sharing videos, which we could use to provide feedback.

I highly recommend working with Mighty Giant. They’re worth talking to — they’re a small team, but they’re nimble and come with a lot of experience.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

The organization is a government-backed project to develop zero CO2 emissions aircraft for 2030. I’m the lead in developing the aircraft’s cabins and passenger experience.

What challenge were you trying to address with Mighty Giant?

We needed to publicize the project. We had a story to tell and wanted to get it out to the industry and general public.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We asked Mighty Giant to take the loose storyline we developed and turn it into a 60-second animated movie. We initially provided the direction, and ultimately, the deliverables were the video and some still frames extracted from it. Along the way, we had various iterations of the video and stills, which they delivered for review.

Also, Mighty Giant helped with storyboarding. They took our story and made a low-frame animation. They were responsible for identifying the voice actors, selecting a soundtrack, and mixing them together in the final cut.

What is the team composition?

We interfaced directly with Jonathan (Creative Director) and the account manager. Jonathan was our point of contact for all the technical discussions around deliverables. On the other hand, the account manager got the commercial side of the project and provided support, managing the data flow between both companies.

How did you come to work with Mighty Giant?

We were introduced to Mighty Giant by a mutual contact. They’d met them at a networking event, and they felt their team might be a good fit for us. We added them to a list of companies and asked for quotes. Eventually, we chose Mighty Giant out of 3–4 suppliers.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around £12,500 (approximately $17,000 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from June–September 2021.

No, we don’t have anything.

How did Mighty Giant perform from a project management standpoint?

They were professional and communicative. The team understood everything we asked of them, and they were generally strong across the board. We used Google Docs, for the most part. We also communicated through phone calls, emails, and Teams video calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were clearly experienced, so they inspired confidence.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there wasn’t anything in particular.

Trust them; they do a good job.

What challenge were you trying to address with Mighty Giant?

We hired Mighty Giant to do some video production for our firm. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Mighty Giant produced a video to promote a sustainability campaign we were working on for a zoo. Our idea was to create animals from recyclable and sustainable materials and then turn them into an animated video. After a discussion period where their team contributed their creative ideas for the project, Mighty Giant got to work on the video production. Mighty Giant's team created all the animals and then made a 3D animated video at their studio, utilizing a storyboard, music, color schemes, and script we provided. Once the video was done, it was uploaded to the zoo's website. 

What is the team composition?

We worked with Johnathan (Creative Director), a project manager, and several designers from Mighty Giant. 

How did you come to work with Mighty Giant?

I have a long history with Mighty Giant — they were a vendor at an agency I'd worked at previously. I knew their strength in animation work, and they were very familiar to me; I knew what their deliverables would look like. I think it's always good to work with a team I've worked with before. I knew Mighty Giant was creative and collaborative and could bring my ideas to life.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent £20,000 (approximately $27,000 USD) on this project with Mighty Giant. 

What is the status of this engagement?

This project with Mighty Giant was from February–May 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The larger campaign that Mighty Giant developed the video was a success. Zoo visitor numbers were up 20%, and website visits were up 10% during the campaign's run. Sustainability can be a dry topic, but Mighty Giant's video was fun and playful; they communicated a very serious topic well through a high-quality video. 

How did Mighty Giant perform from a project management standpoint?

After our initial kickoff call, Mighty Giant managed the entire project internally in ActiveCollab. Mighty Giant was great at sticking to deadlines and communicated project progress well. Their project manager was proactive and communicative. We had frequent Zoom meetings and exchanged emails and phone calls. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Mighty Giant puts in the work to understand the creative brief and is creative enough to translate the client's vision into a high-quality product. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don't think Mighty Giant could've improved anything.

I'd advise customers to hire Mighty Giant!

I’m the managing director of a design agency.

What challenge were you trying to address with Mighty Giant?

We had a tight schedule with one of our clients, and we needed support to meet our deadline. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Mighty Giant helped us produce a TV ad with 3D animation, stop-motion photography, and voiceover. They handled everything, including clearances, post-production, and distribution to TV stations. 

Our creatives came up with the top-line idea, and Mighty Giant used their expertise in motion animation to improve our concepts. They suggested techniques that we could use to make the most of our script. The process had been collaborative between our teams. 

We started the project during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which took many options, such as shooting live-action. They helped us execute despite the challenges and make the ad look amazing.

I worked with a managing director, an account manager, and another teammate. 

How did you come to work with Mighty Giant?

I knew of Mighty Giant for quite a while and had used them on past projects. They had the reputation of being the best for the style that we were after, so it was a no-brainer to use them.

We spent between £10,000–£15,000 (approximately $14,000–$20,000 USD).  

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from June–July 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The quality of Mighty Giant’s work was fantastic, and the ad performed well and resulted in increased sales. The ad successfully showed that our customer’s brand was serious and helped them get distributed across UK supermarkets.

How did Mighty Giant perform from a project management standpoint?

We had a tight schedule, yet we still managed to deliver on time — everything went to plan. Mighty Giant was very good at account management and communication. We spoke through emails and phone calls. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Mighty Giant was excellent at what they do and was also very personable — it was easy to work with their team. We got on well with them, which was important for us. It didn’t feel like a chore working with them — it was just easy and free-flowing. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything.

Give them as much freedom as possible, and allow them to make the decisions themselves since animation is their specialty.

For what projects/services did your company hire Mighty Giant, and what were your goals?

For the 3rd year in a row one of our biggest client's hire our services to create a Seasons Greetings animation to highlight a Charity donation work they would like people to engage with and share with their wide network.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We have used Mighty Giant on previous years and have been a positive relationship.

Describe the video(s) and the process in detail, including the project steps and all stages of production.

We shared initial options and different approaches were then costed out for us. Once the certain style was chosen we got into refining the storyboard, choosing music and rolling 3 stages of WIP. Both us and client were present all the way.

Who did you work with and what was the feedback process like?

We worked with a Project Manager, she was our main point of contact and kept us on schedule. After each milestone we would give her and the wider Mighty animation team feedback on call or quick email, it was fluid on collaboration as timings were tight.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Client was pleased with the result and the Charity donation was a success.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.

The Project Manager was easy to reach out and quick to respond to requests and questions. We worked collaborative and it was very positive.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Mighty team was very comfortable with the work, since they have worked with us and the client before. They gave us unique insights on how to improve our vision and how to make the animation better than it could be.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Know in advance some details that were not predicted in the last round could have been a better outcome if we could've known in advance (e.g.: empty space / cathedral).

Please describe your company and your position there.

I'm a freelance television producer. I have been producing tv shows for several companies including the BBC for several years.

For what projects/services did your company hire Mighty Giant, and what were your goals?

Mighty Giant were employed to design and animate 20 x 15" 2D animations which are an integral part of the narrative of the series. The style had been established in Series 1 and we required a team to honour and embrace the original design work and provide a one stop shop to design / story board and animate,

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We asked several companies to tender and we interviewed a short list. Mighty Giant felt like the best fit. I had worked with all three of those shortlisted and potentially all would have delivered on the brief. Mighty Giants team offered a more boutique, personal and flexible service that we needed.

Describe the video(s) and the process in detail, including the project steps and all stages of production.

The animations were initialy scripted by the writing team, but during production Mighty Giant and I met to analyse the script and react to the live action sequences that were being shot simultaneously. In a collaborative fashion we worked through the scripted animation and reworked and adjusted the narrative and managed the ambition in regards to the budget and time frame.

Following this meeting Mighty Giant provided me with Storyboard character and background designs. I signed off on those following a number of revisions. There are other stakeholders and if I felt necessary I involved them in the process, although that was a rare occurance. On average we probably had 3 revisions.

Following sign off on the designs and Storyboards they animated, Turn around was quick and again we had on average 3 rounds of revisions before we finally approved the sequences. This was all done on a rolling delivery and approval schedule.

Who did you work with and what was the feedback process like?

Mighty Giant were excellent to work with. They were flexible and accommodating. They always reacted positively to feedback and even if it was perhaps a difficult request or even an impossible one in the time frame and budget they would offer a compromise/ a solution that seemed to fit.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

As a producer I'm very happy with the end product. Mighty Giant had to emulate the animations from Season 1 and produce animations that would sit along side the originals. This they achieved. Season 2 has at this point has not transmitted.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.

Management style and communication throughout the process with Mighty Giant was painless and collaborative. With an in house team providing that boutique service they were always on the end of a phone/zoom/teams meet.

And also as the producer I was juggling many things so they were understanding and flexible. The use of Milanote to deliver designs and all art work provided me with quick communications and instant feedback. They hit all delivery milestones without scarfing quality.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

It felt like they enjoyed and engaged in the process loved what they do and brought to the show. It felt like we were part of a team with the same goal and never on opposing sides. I know at times I probably asked for too much and they managed my expectations with a smile and a generous nature. I am not an animator and much more a live action producer.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

This production was all done during Covid so I never met the team other than via a screen. I'd have liked to see their facility etc. It's not essential but getting a feel for their environment would have been good. But that's not a criticism.
