We partnered with Kaleo to design and develop a new mobile application to attack a growing sports industry, and surpass the user experience and capabilities of existing solutions.  Kaleo delivered a Figma-based user experience design that easily outshines the incumbants in the market.  The team then built a working proof-of-concept built primarily in FlutterFlow across 8-10 primary use cases to help sell the concept to potential investors.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We received a user experience design, multiple builds of the app throughout the process, a final working version that met the agreed functionality plus some, regular status updates, and the project delivered on budget.

Kaleo has helped us on MANY projects over the years. These include:

• Re-designing our website and key landing pages

• Building the UX/UI concepts for new features inside of our SaaS application

Typically they are building wireframes, high fidelity designs and interactives inside of Figma. They provide decisions around UX, product and converting desktop experiences to mobile.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

For us the communication was key to iterate with us to find something we knew would be a success. Then, the feedback from our clients interacting with what we created helped solidify the decisions made.

Moreover, the traction we have seen with our web application and customer-facing proposals has been solid and a clear step up from our competition.

We communicate mainly through slack and email. Always responsive. Most projects can work async, but we typically start bigger projects off with a kickoff call explaining what we are trying to accomplish. They always ask good questions to ensure they understand the WHY behind everything we do. Then they communicate via slack or figma to get feedback and iterate from there. Typically on track with timelines we've given them.

Their design quality is top-notch. I feel like it's hitting the right trends, and it's the "look" we are going for in our application.

Their communication is stellar. So always feel like they care about the project and we can go deep on requirements. They are sharp and understand new concepts quickly.

They are able to adapt to libraries or other things we are using in order to make their designs go into production faster.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Kaleo Design could have done differently?

The only "issue" we've run into is getting assigned a designer who's style we don't quite like as much for that project. But they are always good at switching people up if we need something different.

They worked on designs and brand guidelines for one of our clients. They participated as part of the team (although our client always knew we were separate companies). 

They excecuted the plan seamlesly and delievered advances every week. They designed Web Blocks for our client, presented several alternatives for new logos, brand guidelines and suggestions to the web's structure.

Figma files with everything we required from them and with the clients approval (after iterations in order to be 100% aligned with our client's requests).

The design work was great, dynamic and helped us to create a great product.

Chase is one of the most professional managers I've worked with. His work ethics are impecable. Although we stated that weekly deliverables could be a challenges they exceeded expectations.

Not only they understood the client's vision from day one but also the quality of their work was outstanding. We are big fans of Kayce's capability of creating the most fantastic designs. In every project we worked with them, they always managed to exceed our design and UX expectations.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I work for Touch To, a custom software development agency based in Huston, Texas, as the head of business development. In my role, I’m responsible for bringing business in, and I act as the account manager for our client-facing projects. Occasionally, I work as both a product and project manager as well.

What challenge were you trying to address with Kaleo Design?

As a custom software development agency, our projects vary from optimizing and updating existing products to creating new ones. Whenever we have new product development projects, we go to Kaleo for the design part.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I’ve worked with Kaleo on over 30 different design projects across multiple organizations. Whenever we have a new project, I meet with Kaleo, and we come up with questions and directions prior to having a project kickoff meeting with the end client. At that kickoff meeting, our goal is to understand the target customers and user journey. From a design perspective, we also strive to understand what other products our client enjoys.

From there, Kaleo and I discuss how similar products have been built and define the different sections our product requires. After that, they develop a low-fidelity wireframe to see how the product will look like. Once we have the wireframe ready, we bring the end client back to ensure the user journey and product flow makes sense to them.

After that, Kaleo puts together a high-fidelity mock-up to create the entire UX. This mock-up is typically a clickable prototype of the product. As for the technology stack, they typically use Figma, InVision, and Adobe for design and prototyping. This prototype helps the end client get a crystal-clear idea of how users will navigate through the product. We also use this prototype to invite potential users to test it and see how they interact with it.

Then, we use the testers’ feedback and our client’s input to identify usability issues so that we can finalize the product design. Once we finish the design process, Kaleo stays engaged with us to help us solve implementation challenges and create solutions that require modifying the design.

Our current projects include a marketing website for a pool cleaning company and a web app for a spend management business card program. Past projects have also included mobile app design and logo design.

What is the team composition?

I’ve worked with everyone from Kaleo. My relationship with them started with Andrew (Former Head of Product Design & User Interaction), who now pursues other endeavors. Now, I work closely with Chase (Co-Founder, Managing Director & Head of UX), Kayce and Marc (Product Designers), and Jordan (UI/UX Designer). Chase works with me on all projects and is my main point of contact, but I also work with the other designers on specific projects.

How did you come to work with Kaleo Design?

In 2017, Andrew was prospecting customers and emailed me to tell me about his company and work. His portfolio was very good, and he had a very modern approach to UI/UX design. After meeting with Andrew, I realized that he had a great personality and would be easy to work with.

How much have you invested with them?

So far, we’ve done at least $500,000 worth of business with Kaleo across different organizations.

What is the status of this engagement?

Kaleo has been my go-to product design agency for around five years across multiple organizations since December 2017. Regarding Touch To, we’ve been working with them since I joined a year and a half ago, in June 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Given that we work on design projects, our two main success measurement points are customer satisfaction and ease of implementation. In both metrics, Kaleo is always successful. Their design work has been fantastic — our clients love it.

Moreover, their team is always willing to collaborate with us and develop solutions whenever we run into design implementation challenges, and they continue to be a good partner even after delivering their work. Thanks to their great service, they’ve secured our business from day one, and we haven’t looked back since.

How did Kaleo Design perform from a project management standpoint?

Kaleo’s project management is fantastic; they’ve never missed a deadline in five years. I also really appreciate how collaborative they are, which facilitates excellent communication. We treat each other as more than business partners; it’s also as if we worked at the same company, which makes my experience very enjoyable.

We use Slack to communicate throughout the day and have agile meetings with them as needed. Moreover, they’re part of our sprint planning sessions. Whenever we need ad-hoc meetings, they’re always available to jump on a call at any given time within reason.

We’ve used Jira for project management in the past, but design work is a little different than development, so I now let Kaleo use their own project management tools. Currently, we meet twice a week. During these meetings, they get me involved, let me review their work, and listen to my feedback. If we need to change directions, they take it into consideration.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’ve worked with many vendors throughout the years, and I haven’t found better people than those at Kaleo — they actually care about their work. Whenever they see something they don’t like that falls outside their scope, they let us know with the best intentions because they want us to create the best products. They also do this in a professional manner; they know when to provide feedback.

Still, if we don’t want to follow Kaleo’s recommendations, they act as true team players and move forward. Moreover, if we have to meet a tight deadline or need to get something done, they’re very accommodating in freeing their bandwidth to support our project.

Kaleo also has a great ability to think independently and come up with solutions. If we don’t have a clear vision for the project at hand ourselves, they’re capable of taking the reins and driving the project forward.

As general feedback, Kaleo is very enjoyable to work with. We’ve been working together for five years, so I consider them friends at this point. They’re great to talk with, and we enjoy engaging with them and catching up about our personal lives. Overall, they’re a very solid team across the board.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, they’ve done a great job. Kaleo started out as a small company, but they’ve grown and become more successful as our needs have also grown. They’ve also hired a good amount of people, which has allowed them to keep up with the quality of their work.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Trust their expertise, allow them to give projects an initial revision, and provide them with your feedback once they’ve fleshed out their first ideas. When they look for your feedback, don’t be shy and share as much as you can to help them get started — they will always let you know what they need.

Moreover, let Kaleo do what they do best. They’re tremendously good at what they do, and they’re very ethical in their invoicing. If you put your trust in them, know that they’ll do the best they can for you in the most reasonable amount of time. Ultimately, you’ll be happy with the outcome.

Being able to have a visual layout was a success, as Andrew and his team were great at not only executing what was important to me, but also giving me their professional suggestions along the way.

Could not have been any better. Andrew and his team were very attentive to details, notes I would make, or email correspondence. They were on top of things from start to finish!

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I liked that they were a smaller team, worked with me upon a budget, amazing communication the whole way through, and their ability to execute and collaborate. Very much a joy to work with.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Not a single one. I could not recommend them any more! They are quick but very precise and talented in their UI/UX work. I am grateful our paths have crossed! And hope to work with them again on future projects.

I’m the owner & CEO of TruckingSE. We maintain a database of trucking services and provide a website that features those services.

What challenge were you trying to address with Kaleo Design?

We brought them on to handle the flow, look, and feel of our web application.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Kaleo Design implemented a clean look with a lot of white space. The objective was to draw the user to where their eyes need to be. The design isn’t busy or cluttered. It's intuitive so there wasn’t a need for additional labels or dropdown menus.

The platform is map-centric with a listview of shops. Users can click on a shop and then choose to get directions or call their phone number. The deliverable was a web application available on desktop and redesigned for mobile as well. It’s not a native mobile app, but it can be accessed on a mobile device.

What is the team composition?

I work with Andrew (Head of Product Design & Co-Founder) and his design team.

How did you come to work with Kaleo Design?

I reached out to 10 design companies. My first point of contact with Kaleo Design was on Upwork. I saw that they had good success there and didn’t want to reinvent the wheel with somebody who didn’t have experience.

We held six interviews. It was clear that Andrew knew what he was talking about. Just from talking to him, I knew and felt confident that he had a strong process to move the project along. Kaleo Design was head and shoulders above the others.

How much have you invested with them?

We invested roughly about $6,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project was from July–December 2020.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The web app functions as it should; it’s user-friendly and intuitive. Andrew took what we wanted to do and made it happen. They completed the work in about 30–45 days; it was very quick. Kaleo Design didn’t overpromise and underdeliver, which many agencies do. Their team laid out exactly what it needed to be, set the goals, and hit them.

How did Kaleo Design perform from a project management standpoint?

They were realistic and set the deadline accurately. We had four major milestones, and they hit every one. Our teams communicated primarily through email. There were a few things I needed to be changed, and they were very easy to work with and adaptive to the feedback I provided. It was clear I wasn’t just another customer to them. They owned the project and got it done when they said they would.

We utilized Trello for project management and InVision for the design and feedback. I was able to mark where and what needed to happen.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Andrew was very quick to respond and take care of issues that arose. Their follow-through has always been strong. When they say they’re going to do something, I know it’s actually getting done. After the project was done and paid for, they still owned it and got me to where I needed to be.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I can’t think of anything. It was refreshing to work with them because I didn’t have to babysit. Their creative mindset is spot on with what I was trying to accomplish.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I’d definitely recommend them. Have a clear vision of what you want so they can understand.

I am the founder and president of a wellness company based in Tempe, Arizona. We have been in business for several years and launched a brand of products in the spring of 2019.

For what projects/services did your company hire Kaleo Design?

Our website had been a work on process for several years. We weren't happy with the the overall look, feel, and UI/UX of the site as well as getting the conversion rates we felt were possible. After having a CRO expert help define areas we needed to work on we approached Kaleo Design to help with a complete overhaul of the site.

What were your goals for this project?

Our goal for the project was to have a user friendly site that was easy to navigate and help build trust with our customers. One of the main focuses of the re-design was to increase our sales conversions.

We found most initial visits to the site are done via mobile and purchases were more heavily weighted to desktop. We needed to make a strong enough impact on the initial visit to build trust and confidence in our brand to bring a user back and have them make a purchase.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

Kaleo Design was found via a google search. The case studies they presented along with their familiarity of UI/UX and mobile awareness lead me to reach out. They were quick to respond and establish a clear line of communication. They understood the project and were in a place to get to work on it in the time frame that we needed adhered to.

Describe the project in detail.

We were able to supply Kaleo with our brand book and design assets. One of the key aspects to the redesign was to maintain the proper funnel and suggested recommended section layout of the site.

They worked up several, and all very good, design themes for our landing page. From there we used various design elements and structure along with some new branding features they had thrown in for options. The new design kept to the required brand features but gave a new fresh look overall.

The design included multiple pages which all were consistent with each other and met the requirements of keeping the recommended sales funnel in tact. All progress was readily available at all times and updates were posted frequently.

Their availability for discussion and feedback was always very good and they were happy to make changes and work with as needed to dial in certain areas of the site.

Their understanding of the development process also made it very easy on my development team to implement the new design and didn't require any additional coding or complications on the development side.

What was the team composition?

Our main contact and project manager stayed the same throughout the project. He was very easy to work with and responsive as needed. He was able to adapt to my schedule and was able to speed up and slow down certain items as we had hurdles on our end or needed some extra time to garner feedback on design.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The new site was only recently launched by my development team. While I don't have any immediate data to share we have been given incredible feedback on the new site and have already seen an uptick in daily orders without any other major pushes towards the site.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Easy and quick communication. Always very timely and we never felt like we had been left in the dark. Kaleo was also very happy to take constructive criticism but would also be happy to explain the thought behind their design.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Beyond the ease of working with them, they were able to bring multiple clean, fresh ideas of the branding to the table and seamlessly build them into the site. The attention to detail and creativeness while still providing deliverable my dev team was easily able to implement.

Are there any areas for improvement?

We had no qualms with the process or feel there are areas they could improve. If anything at times our lack of ability to quickly provide feedback was perhaps the only trouble with the project because they were so quick to complete milestones of the project.

Andrew's work speaks for itself; our users are generally astonished when we tell them our app only launched a couple months ago because of how amazing the UX / design is. Since launching the overhauled app several months ago we've ~1000x'd our lifetime sales.

Extremely effective. Andrew is super responsive / communicative and works quickly.
