Our company provides custom software and app development services for our customers. To facilitate those projects, we partnered with IndiaNIC Infotech Limited about five years ago, and we continue to use them as our primary development arm for those custom solutions.

With IndiaNIC Infotech Limited, we work with a company that is large enough to supply the resources we look for in different areas of development. Some of our solutions require iOS or Android applications, but web applications, custom databases, and GUI work are also typical.

Recently, we’ve worked with IndiaNIC Infotech Limited on the development of a job management and timekeeping system for one of our clients. That project consisted of a dual platform application and a web interface with a database backend.

In many cases, we host the products for our customers because we are an Amazon partner. One of the benefits of that arrangement is that a bulk of the work is done initially, but we can also work in sprints afterward and make changes or add updates as we need to so that we further customize the product to meet specific business needs.

When we started working together, we didn’t do much in terms of preplanning for the project. But in recent years, the presence of a business analyst has helped us build a blueprint of the project before we head into the development stage. That increased foresight has been extremely successful for us and has saved us from a lot of misunderstandings once we begin the development process.

As an offshore partner, I’ve been very pleased with their abilities to keep open lines of communication.

They successfully delivered the apps with all requested features and components.

The team works diligently to complete tasks to our expectation. I have found that clear directives and consistent weekly calls and reviews have been important to our success.

Software is always difficult and there tends to be a lot of back and forth during development. They worked hard to address all of our issues.

We needed a company to develop a social media app to be used in South Africa.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed our iOS and Android social media app. It’s a free app where people view what celebrities have posted, and it has two users; the member of the app and their followers. We have a web backend where we push all the information into the app, which they also developed.

We gave them the idea and explained what we were looking for. They assisted us with analyzing and extracting features that might work, in terms of marketing and calculating transactions and everything within the app. They helped us to come up with a model for charging the advertisers who are on the app. The analysis phase took about three weeks, and now they’re in the development phase.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

IndiaNIC Infotech Limited is designing the mobile app for both iOS and Android devices. It consists of 7–8 screens within the app. They’re composing a user profile interface that will capture personal information (e.g., name, address, date of birth). They’re developing a user news feed as well.

The app will have a short-term loan servicing component, and users will be able to link their bank accounts. As such, security is paramount. They’re using 256-bit encryption for the app. They’re focusing on security within the app from start to finish. We’ll also have an ongoing relationship after launch if a technical glitch were to arise.

I work with a team of developers that are really hands-on with the development and design. I communicate mainly with one specific project manager.

I researched various mobile app development companies. As a startup, my budget for development is tight. The price point they offered me was in the budget and feasible. Also, all of their online reviews were positive. That's why I decided to move forward with the relationship and allow them to have complete ownership of the mobile app development project.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

One notable thing is that IndiaNIC Infotech Limited originally estimated the completion date as late June 2019. They let me know last week that they're actually ahead of schedule. The new delivery date is now late May or early June. That's a testament to their commitment to the schedule, and to their development team putting in added hours.

How did IndiaNIC Infotech Limited perform from a project management standpoint? 

The IndiaNIC Infotech Limited team is great. We email frequently and use Skype for video chats once or twice a week. They always send me the latest version of the app before the video chat. That way I can actually click through and see the actual visual screens instead of just having them explain it to me.

I give frequent feedback on the color scheme, text, and screen order. They're open to all my suggestions. They want to make sure the app is exactly what I requested. At the same time, they rely on their expertise in mobile app development to guide the process. We discuss until we come to a common ground on what will be best for the UX.

They’ve definitely exceeded my expectations. I’m not well-versed in the technological aspect of the development process, yet they make me feel extremely comfortable. They don't use tech jargon, and they make sure that I know exactly what's going on. 

What did you find most impressive about them? 

I'm most satisfied with their level of communication. They’re continuously in contact with me throughout the design process. The other app developer that I considered took weeks on end to respond to my inquiries. They didn't seem to have a sense of urgency or to really want to secure the business relationship. The first person I spoke to was Brian (business development manager, IndiaNIC Infotech Limited), and we were in touch at least 2–3 times a week. He made my project feel important. Even though I recognize they have other business ventures, I still feel as if I’m the most important. That really stands out.

No. I don't have any constructive feedback at this point.

Have a direct plan or concise idea on what you're looking for before reaching out to them. They asked me very specific questions when we started our conversations. Take time to think through what the end product and UX should be before starting development.

My TraX is an app that allows users to plan, document, and share their travel experiences. As the co-founder and director, I oversee operations, development, and marketing, as well as efforts to increase the user base and build the company.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to create an app that would allow users to experience the world in an innovative new way, one based on user interests that transformed them from tourists to travelers. We needed a product that was easy to use, eye-catching, and provided payment features for premium options.

How did you select this vendor?

We researched and compared around seven app companies, looking for one that was cost-effective without compromising quality. IndiaNIC proved to be far better financially and professionally. They boasted a great online presence, an amazing portfolio of past products, and a customer service record that made us comfortable working with an offshore company. Their personable staff and extensive service offerings were ultimately what made us so confident they could deliver our project.

IndiaNIC was responsible for the app’s end-to-end design and development. We provided them with some basic company information to orient them to MyTraX and, though we provided the user stories, we offered very little structure regarding the design. We simply conveyed that we wanted the app to speak to our target market and make an impact in the travel world with a timeless, clean, and attractive look. We worked closely with the designer to fine-tune the final version, but nearly every draft preceding it was flawless, their attention to detail and brand alignment spot-on.

They really brought our vision to life. Available for both iOS and Android, the app allows users to search trips based on interests, destination, or duration, then build a tailored itinerary that would facilitate unique experiences in amazing destinations. IndiaNIC also integrated in-app purchases, an admin panel, accompanying websites, and marketing material. Their professional guidance and technical expertise have helped close the gap created by our technological inexperience.

A team of approximately 12 people worked on this app, with additional members supplementing for various aspects like design, marketing, and business development. A dedicated project manager communicated with us daily and provided frequent updates.

We are currently pre-trading but are confident that, with IndiaNIC’s help, the app will continue to be bigger and more successful. Thanks to their dedication, input, and advice, we anticipate many future releases and improvements, as well as a strong ongoing partnership.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

The project was arranged around milestones, using detailed outlines to indicate what deliverable would be completed at each step. A consultant continues to advise us during regular meetings.

The app has been developed so quickly and with such high quality primarily because of their efficient and effective communication. Our single point of contact makes cooperation so easy, and I always received a prompt response to any query. My partner and I were kept up-to-date throughout the project using multiple channels like Basecamp, Skype, and email. There have been no issues with a language barrier or the time difference; they understand if we are not available and stay flexible regarding calls.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They have a genuine interest in making dreams become a reality, and nothing is too much to ask. Though the core team remained the same, IndiaNIC excelled at seeking advice or clarification from other company specialists to optimize features, going above and beyond to make everything perfect. Not only is this a talented, driven team, as evident in their standard of work, but they are also friendly and approachable.

The time difference can make communication challenging at times, but they are always available. IndiaNIC was able to get the site up and run it through some cases very quickly. Overall, they've developed a user-friendly site that's already helped us generate several thousands of dollars in sales. We went from nothing to about $12,000 in sales in a matter of weeks after implementing their suggestions. They've also helped us collect valuable data about customer behavior that will help us implement solutions for the next phase of development.

They're effective communicators and good about keeping our team updated and on time, utilizing a useful project management tool to document feedback and use cases during sprints.
